It’s reported that Christopher Nolan wants Tom Holland in his next movie, which is currently in development at Universal Pictures and will star Matt Damon.
The flick is expected to start filming in early 2025 and already has a July 17, 2026 released date.
The info comes via the trades who report that Holland is circling the film and that Nolan has his sights set on the actor.
Nothing is confirmed yet, and Universal didn’t comment on the talks.
Nothing else is also known about the Christopher Nolan flick, as the plot is also being kept under wraps.
Deadline also adds that it sounds like Tom Holland has been high on Christopher Nolan’s list to star in a movie for some time.
Update: THR says it’s a done deal and that Tom Holland will star in the movie. The site also says Nolan wrote the script, is directing, and that the movie is not set in the present day.
The movie will mark the third time Nolan has worked with Matt Damon, and it will be the first for Tom Holland.
What about Spider-Man 4?
Deadline also confirms that Tom Holland is expected to reprise his role as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Update: THR adds in their reporting (more on Holland in Avengers: Doomsday here):
Holland’s boarding may come with some ripple effects. Sources say that the actor will spend next year juggling this project as well as Spider-Man 4, with a likely stop for Avengers: Doomsday. Spider-Man 4 was delayed enough that Holland’s co-star Zendaya will now be shooting Dune 3 in early 2026 rather than next year.
Recently saw Holland offer he wants to get Spider-Man 4 right. He said he’s read a script but it still needs work. Holland also said the window to get Spider-Man 4 is narrowing down due to the MCU release schedule. While Holland didn’t go into detail, it sounds like they want Spider-Man 4 to be released before Marvel’s big Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
We can guess Holland would jump at the chance to work with Nolan and then do Spider-Man 4 after Nolan’s movie.
“The studio wants to make another Spider-Man, and I want to make another one. I want to make many more, but I want to do it for the right reasons,” said Holland on the Rich Roll podcast.
He added, “I’m constantly thinking, ‘Is this the right thing to do? Am I going to do justice to the character? Am I going to do justice to the fans?’ I definitely don’t want to just make a movie for the sake of it because that’s not what Spider-Man represents. It’s a complicated one. It’s going really well, though.”
Holland continued, “We’re working now with the pedal to the metal, trying to get it going as soon as possible. Things are looking great, but there are still a lot of moving pieces that need to come together for us to hit the ground running.
“One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine, and that machine has got to keep running. You need to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture,” said Holland. “So that’s one of the challenges we’re facing, and the time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the fantastic people we have working on it now.”
