Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Rumored In Development

It’s claimed that Disney and Lucasfilm are moving forward with another Star Wars series for Ewan McGregor, as rumors claim Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in development.

There’s not much to go on other than scooper Daniel RPK stating Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in the works.

Back in October of last year, McGregor said he was hopeful a second season would happen.

ā€œObviously, between the end of theĀ Obi-Wan KenobiĀ series and when Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s got to be another few stories in there,ā€ McGregor said at L.A. Comic-Con and added that Disney and Lucasfilm are ā€œexploringā€ new ideas for the future of the series. McGregor also said he wants to wear the armor from Clones Wars and wants Hayden Christensen back.

What happened in Season 1?

In Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 (released in 2022), the story picks up ten years after Revenge of the Sith, with Obi-Wan living in exile on Tatooine, watching over a young Luke Skywalker. Haunted by his failure with Anakin and disconnected from the Force, Obi-Wan is forced out of hiding when young Princess Leia is kidnapped. As he sets out to rescue her, he’s hunted by the Empire’s Inquisitors, including Reva, a former Jedi youngling seeking her own revenge.

Obi-Wan eventually learns that Anakin is alive and now fully transformed into Darth Vader. The two face off twice, with Obi-Wan regaining his strength in the Force and defeating Vader in their final duel. Meanwhile, Reva’s plan to kill Vader fails, and she ultimately spares young Luke after a confrontation on Tatooine. The season ends with Obi-Wan coming to terms with the past, making peace with himself, and finally connecting with the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn.

Fan reception

Kenobi wasn’t well received by fans. It only has a 61% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t a good score at all.

News of a potential Season 2 is surprising as Kenobi was billed as a one-and-done ā€œminiseries.ā€

However, the series is among the highest-rated Star Wars shows on Disney+, only trailing The Mandalorian. Maybe Disney can get it right the second time around?

What’s next for Star Wars on Disney+?

Currently, Lucasfilm only has Ahsoka Season 2 in development for Disney+, which will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen. A Darth Maul animated series is also in the works.
