Diamond Comics Officially Sold To Universal and Ad Populum

Following the recent deal with Alliance Entertainment falling through, Diamond Comic Distributors has been acquired by Universal Distribution LLC and Ad Populum.

The announcement came Friday, which follows months of uncertainty, bankruptcy, and legal troubles.

Who bought what?

Per the official announcement, Diamond Comic Distributors (a Canadian distributor) has acquired the assets of Alliance Game Distributors.

Ad Populum (brand management and distribution company behind major names like NECA, Rubies, WizKids, Kidrobot, and Party City) has acquired the assets of Diamond Comic Distributors, Diamond Book Distributors, Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, Collectible Grading Authority, and other related assets.

Diamond UK remains separate from this sale process.

What Diamond says

Diamond’s Chief Restructuring Officer, Robert Gorin, said the company is confident in the new ownership and believes that publishers, retailers, and fans are “in good hands” under Universal and Ad Populum.

“We are pleased that this transaction has been completed and are confident that the publishers and retailers Diamond partnered with, our employees, and comic and games fans are in good hands with Universal and Ad Populum,” said Gorin.

What Universal says

Angelo Exarhakos, President and CEO of Universal, called the acquisition of Alliance a significant step forward. He cited improved operations and stronger relationships with publishers and retailers as key benefits.

What Ad Populum says

Joel Weinshanker, Managing Director of Ad Populum, reflected on Diamond’s legacy and his personal connection to the brand. He said the company is looking forward to taking Diamond into its next phase with stronger sales, marketing, and distribution efforts.
