James Gunn’s Superman has flown passed $550 million at the box office as of Sunday. However, it’s still well short of The Batman, but at least it’s crushing Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
And again it looks like Superman is no match for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. I think it’s safe to say that argument is long over.
But hey, it looks like both Gunn and Zaslav are taking the win. Even if Superman doesn’t make any money, as I previously said, they can look at the flick as their “Batman Begins” or “Iron Man” with the hopes it leads to that magical billion dollar blockbuster down the road.
It also looks pretty good when WB gets sold. Whoops.
What is the Superman box office?
In its fourth weekend, Gunn’s Superman starring David Corenswet brought in $13.9M, for a current domestic haul of $316,256,392.
Internationally is a different story. Also as I said, Gunn needs to make it right with the Asian audience. Superman has only brought in $235M from foreign markets.
The current worldwide gross after 22 days is $551,256,392.
We’d be talking a different story if the international audience showed up.
Superman Grosses:
- Domestic (57.4%): $316,256,392
- International (42.6%): $235,000,000
- Worldwide: $551,256,392

Compared to The Batman
Sorry, folks, The Batman hit $600M after only 17 days, nearly a week ahead of Gunn’s movie and $50M more, and that was also with a soft opening in China.
In its own fourth weekend domestically, The Batman brought in $20,471,994.
The Batman finished with $369,345,583 domestic. Gunn’s Superman will come close, as they’re pretty much neck and neck domestically. Within the same 22-day timeframe, The Batman hit $317,010,985.
Superman has actually been better during the week, but not the weekends where the big money comes in. It will be interesting to see how close Superman comes to The Batman‘s domestic number.
Worldwide, The Batman finished with $772,245,583. Gunn’s Superman won’t be coming near that, again because of that big international fall off.
The Batman Grosses:
- Domestic (47.8%): $369,345,583
- International (52.2%): $402,900,000
- Worldwide: $772,245,583

Compared to Man of Steel
Speaking of not coming close… Adjusted for inflation, Snyder’s Man of Steel was at $365,101,720.79 domestically in its first 22 days. It finished with $402,992,540.82 in today’s dollars.
Worldwide? Nearly a billion. $927,908,620.18.
Man of Steel grosses:
- Domestic (43.4%): $291,045,518 ($402,992,540.82 – today’s dollars)
- International (56.6%): $379,100,000 ($524,916,079.36 – today’s dollars)
- Worldwide: $670,145,518 ($927,908,620.18 – today’s dollars)
Compared to Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four is turning out to be another Kevin Feige Marvel bomb, as many fans expected.
In its second weekend, it dropped a massive 66% bringing in only $40M. Variety also pointed out its second Friday dropped a “devasting” 80%. When the shill sites start reporting things like that is when you know you are in trouble.
Gunn’s Superman only dropped 53.2% and brought in over $58M in its second weekend. Its second Friday saw a drop of 70.5%. We also know more families went to see Superman than Fantastic Four, like by a large margin — 31% to 17%.
Now the question is whether FF will hit $500M? Yikes!
Fantastic Four Grosses:
- Domestic (53.8%): $198,427,635
- International (46.2%): $170,300,000
- Worldwide: $368,727,635

2025: Year of Box Office Bombs
2025 is shaping up to be a big year of box office bombs. At least Gunn’s Superman will hit that WB break-even number (however, insiders told me the budget is actually a lot bigger).
Minecraft ($955M) and Lilo & Stitch ($1B) were huge, but nothing else, really.
Jurassic World: Rebirth, which is a horrible film, is doing decent numbers ($766M), but it’s more than 50% below the first one and around 30% below Dominion, which also wasn’t good. Let’s hope they get a screenwriter for the sequel.
28 Years Later flopped and lost $75M.
Cap 4 ($415M) and Thunderbolts ($382M) are flops. No surprise.
Everybody has been raving about F1, but at $545.5M, just as I said, yeah, it’s a flop.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning? $594M. Flop.
How to Train Your Dragon did decent ($618M) at least.
Final Destination: Bloodlines crushed it with $285.3M.
My favorite movie of 2025? Sinners. Awesome movie ($365M). However, it went absolutely nowhere internationally ($87.3M).
Both Naked Gun and Bad Guys 2 look to be big bombs. Weapons opens this week, another low-budget horror movie, which should do well.
Are the days of spending hundreds of millions on movies over? Not yet. Just ask Spidey.
