Batman fans will get a rare chance to see Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) back in theaters. For one night only—August 25—both Tim Burton films will screen exclusively in over 160 Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres locations across the U.S.
The remastered presentations mark the first time either film will be shown in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, delivering sharper images and immersive sound.

Dolby Vision and Atmos Add New Dimension to Gotham
Dolby Vision upgrades the visuals with deeper blacks and sharper contrast, which brings out the moody style of Burton’s Gotham. Dolby Atmos enhances the sound, giving new power to everything from the Batmobile’s roar to Danny Elfman’s score.
Filmmaker Tim Burton called the experience “really new and exciting,” noting that watching his Batman films with this level of image and sound quality gave them a fresh feel.
“I hadn’t watched these films since I made them, and seeing them again with this level of clarity, beauty, color, and sound felt really new and exciting,” said Burton. “Dolby Atmos and Vision brought it all to life in a fresh way.”

Warner Bros. and Dolby Highlight the Legacy
Dolby’s Michelle Maddalena described the films as “seminal,” and noted how the new presentation honors Burton’s creativity while showing the evolution of film tech. Jeff Goldstein of Warner Bros. pointed out how the visual and audio upgrades create “completely new cinematic experiences.”
“Batman and Batman Returns remain seminal films in the history of the Super Hero genre,” said Michelle Maddalena, Vice President of Global Content and Industry Relations at Dolby. “The new presentation of these films in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos honors Tim Burton’s bold creativity while showcasing how far audio and image technology have evolved.”
“Tim Burton’s acclaimed Batman films deliver a dark, iconic vision of Gotham City that continues to influence the modern Super Hero genre today,” said Jeff Goldstein, President of Global Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. “With their advancements over the past decades, Dolby now transforms these beloved classics into completely new cinematic experiences through Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, delivering unprecedented visual and audio fidelity.”
Back in 1992, Batman Returns was the first film ever released in Dolby Digital surround sound. That legacy continues with these updated presentations in Dolby’s latest formats.
