Lucasfilm has released two new official Star Wars images during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, a first glimpse at Darth Maul in the upcoming animated series Maul: Shadow Lord, and Eman Esfandi suited up as Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka Season 2, which is now in production.

Darth Maul Returns in Shadow Lord
The first image shows Darth Maul wielding his iconic double-bladed red lightsaber, backlit by flames and shadows. Maul: Shadow Lord marks the return of the fan-favorite Sith in a new animated series produced by Lucasfilm Animation. The series appears to dive deep into the darker side of the galaxy, and the visual tone suggests a stylized, high-intensity approach.
Lucasfilm hasn’t yet confirmed a release date for Shadow Lord, but it’s part of a growing lineup under the Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire, and Tales of the Underworld banner, suggesting it could premiere on Disney+ in 2026 or sooner.

First Look: Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka Season 2
In addition, Lucasfilm revealed a new still of Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, sporting a new blue Resistance-style flight suit. The image comes from the second season of Ahsoka, which is currently filming. The updated look seems to reflect Ezra’s transition into a fully-fledged leader in the New Republic, following his return in the first season’s finale.
Filoni and the creative team are leaning heavily into characters from Rebels, and Ezra’s new costume — complete with updated tech patches — hints that he may be playing a key role in the season’s story arc.

A 20-Year Celebration of Lucasfilm Animation
The reveals were part of a larger showcase celebrating 20 years of Lucasfilm Animation at SDCC. Attendees saw never-before-seen concept art, Dave Filoni’s original sketches (including the first drawing of the Bad Batch), and production props and models used across animated shows like The Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, The Bad Batch, and more.

There was also a special exhibit at booth #2913 featuring physical maquettes of Jedi Council members, the Ghost crew, ships from Resistance, and even the Blade of Talzin used by Morgan Elsbeth in Ahsoka Season 1.

Filoni also shared a heartfelt message about the legacy of Lucasfilm Animation and its connection to George Lucas, who made his Comic-Con Hall H debut this year with a panel on the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
“George Lucas always believed in animation and believed in our team,” Filoni said via StarWars.com. “He said, ‘Dare to be great,’ and that’s what we’ve done for the last 20 years. I hope we do it for 20 more.”
