James Gunn and the DCU have found their Green Lantern John Stewart, and it’s Aaron Pierre who was previously said to be up for the role.
The 30-year-old actor will star opposite the 59-year-old Kyle Chandler who is playing Hal Jordan.
Warner Bros. confirmed the casting of Pierre, and James Gunn confirmed the casting of both.
“Welcome to DC, @aaron_pierre1. After a long and grueling series of auditions I am absolutely sure we’ve found an incredible John Stewart,” said Gunn, adding, “Welcome to the DCU, Kyle Chandler! Now our Hal Jordan in #Lanterns.”
Update: Aaron Pierre said on Instagram, “Tremendously honoured and abundantly grateful. A dream come true. Thank you all for the love and beautiful energy. Thank you for welcoming me to DC. Let’s work!.”
The pair are starring in the Lanterns series described as similar to True Detective which follows Hal Jordan, a legend amongst the space police force known as the Green Lanterns, as he reluctantly mentors a younger Green Lantern, John Stewart. The two intergalactic cops get drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
