McG Talks He-Man, Skeletor, Kellan Lutz & More

Following Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz having revealed he took a meeeting for the live action Masters of the Universe He-Man movie, earlier today saw the director on the project, McG, taking questions about the film while at FOX’s Television Critics Association.

McG stated He-Man hasn’t been cast, but offered Kellan Lutz is in the running.

We haven’t cast the role yet, but I like Kellan very much. Obviously, we need a talented entertainer, but we also need a certain physicality, which he embodies. He’ll be considered very, very closely. We haven’t gotten to the casting process yet. Kellan’s a good guy, and we had a great meeting, and he’s passionate about He-Man, he’s passionate about the Adam story. He really knows a lot about it. I was charmed by his focus and intensity. He’ll be considered very, very carefully. We’re just not there yet. We’ve got to get the movie on its feet, then we’ll cast the movie.

McG also talked about casting Skeletor and confirmed the He-Man bad guy to heavyweight villains such as Star Wars‘ Darth Vader and Die Hard‘s Hans Gruber (which means they are taking a serious take on the characters and He-Man movie).

As Skeletor? I think the characters are bigger than any given actor. I think the right actor is going to be what’s most important. I’m not really hung up on, “Oh, it’s got to be a star.” I just want someone who’s right for it. I enjoy working with big movie stars. I enjoy working with discoveries. We’re going to do what’s right, so it embodies the energy. Skeletor needs to be an incredible menace. I really think — again — I mean it when I say Vader, Gruber, Skeletor.

McG confirmed Battle Cat and Evil Lyn for He-Man and offered an update where they are with the movie.

We have a big meeting with Sony regarding prep of the movie on Wednesday. And we’re in the middle of a bit of a script polish, and it’s my absolute passion. I’m laser-focused on that being my next film.

McG also said they are inspired by and are trying to emulate what Kevin Feige did with Marvel; what James Gunn did with the Guardians of the Galxy movie, and what Margot Robbie did with Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.

“I want to make sure our Evil-Lyn is the standard bearer. That’s a tall order, isn’t it?” McG said referencing both Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress.

No Marvel Marvel Movie & TV Crossover Because Of Marvel Creative Committee

Fans have been asking (begging?) for their favorite television personalities to appear in the Marvel movies.

While you may have heard the reason being that the Marvel TV and movies schedules don’t sync up, the real reason is because of the Marvel Creative Committee.

The Marvel Creative Committee consists of Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter’s boy’s club of: Alan Fine, who came with Perlmutter to Marvel through Toy Biz; Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Michael Bendis, Marvel Comics publisher Dan Buckley, and Joe Quesada, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and the current Chief Creative Officer of Marvel.

To add to that they are all good buddies with head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb.

Long story short, last year saw Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige part ways with both Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee over interference in the movies and creative differences. Captain America and Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo stated the following back in May:

“We’ve been on that [Marvel] journey from Winter Soldier, and it may have been some story points from Civil War that caused the civil war within Marvel. I think that there were years when Kevin was absorbing the pain inflicted on the company. [Marvel Studios is] much healthier, happier” [and is paving the way for] “really compelling choices.”

Regarding the crossover between Marvel Studios and TV not happening, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb recently appeared on Nerdist’s Comic Book Club podcast where he was asked about The Defenders appearing in the movies with mention there’s friction because of the Marvel Creative Committee. Via reddit:

When asked if The Defenders would be in the movies, he scoffed and went on and on about how Marvel Television is a 3 year old company and how they want to do their own thing, but specifically mentioned that they’ll see where the company is in 2019.

He then mentioned that Marvel Television projects are still all under the thumb of the Marvel Creative Committee, so that could also cause some friction between the possibility of television and movie crossovers.

Adding in my own two cents, if you have been a fan of this website or any of the Marvel COSMIC comic books, you know the Marvel Creative Committee aren’t fans of COSMIC-type stories. With the upcoming Marvel Studios movies looking like they’re heavy cosmic flicks (Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers 4, Inhumans, rumored Richard Rider Nova movie), it’s no wonder Feige booted them from being involved (in addition to whatever trouble they caused).

It’s also apparent the Marvel Creative Committee and Marvel TV like to use their comic book creator-driven work as: Agents Of SHIELD is heavily influenced by the Bendis comics; Netflix is heavily influenced by Quesada’s favorites, and Jeph Loeb went so far as to cancel the 2007 Nova comic book and replace the character he now uses in his animated TV series. There’s also the fact that Bendis cancelled and took over the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series when word of the movie getting green lit became known (and fired the writers on the Nova and GOTG comics that inspired the movie and new billion dollar Disney franchise).

It also recently became known that Kevin Feige is introducing the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse in Doctor Strange. Is Kevin Feige going to make Marvel TV a part of the multiverse and directly disconnect it from the movies, which would enable Feige to use the same characters, but with different actors?

Watch: Kevin Feige Talks Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequels & Vulture Powers

Check out video below featuring Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige talking about what to expect from Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequels.

Of interest is that Feige says they have talked about going the Harry Potter route by doing further Spider-Man movies set in each grade of Peter Parker’s high school.

Feige also notes that Tony Stark created Peter Parker’s Spider-Man costume, and we have yet to see all its capabilities.

Regarding the villain of the movie, Vulture, Feige said Vulture’s origins and powers are tech-based and not super powers.

Watch below.

Tom Holland also recently said Spider-Man: Homecoming is  intense featuring heavy hitters.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Synopsis:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ “Captain: Civil War,” begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Geoff Johns In As “Kevin Feige” Of DC Movies Following Batman Vs. Superman Fallout

With Zack Snyder 0 for 2, Warner Bros. is not waiting for the third strike to end the game.

THR reports Geoff Johns and executive vice president Jon Berg will co-run DC Films in an “attempt to course-correct Warners’ comic book movies,” which is a direct result of the failed reception and performance of Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman.

Along with the recent addition of Ben Affleck as producer on Justice League, both Johns and Berg have been named as producers on the Justice League movies as well.

The report says: “With Berg and Johns, Warner Bros. is attempting to unify the disparate elements of the DC movies with a seasoned film exec and a comics veteran that together can hopefully emulate the way Marvel Studios has produced its films under the vision of president Kevin Feige.”

The report makes no mention of the further involvement of Zack Snyder other than he had the opportunity to shape the DC movie universe to 2020, but it’s noted critics and fans “ripped” into Snyder. It’s further mentioned that Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is nearing a billion in its first two weeks, while Batman Vs. Superman didn’t come close to the number.

Jon Berg has already been involved with Batman Vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League. Berg also has a good relationship with Ben Affleck as the two have worked together on Argo and Affleck’s upcoming Live By Night. Affleck and Johns also co-wrote the Batman solo movie, with Affleck assumed to be directing.

Johns, in addition to his comics gig, is also responsible for the stellar performance of DC TV, with Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. I’ll also say this, that more than likely the failure of the Green Lantern movie is not Johns’ fault (we know this is going to be brought up). DC TV executive producer/showrunner Greg Berlanti recently spoke about the failure of Green Lantern in which Berlanti offered up that he (Berlanti) didn’t have much to do with the finished product — Berlanti was fired from writing and directing. Johns was probably more or less an advisor on Green Lantern, offering his two cents when someone would listen (and they probably didn’t). Berlanti is now involved with the DC movies as well, as a Booster Gold film is in development that Berlanti wants to direct (more of Berlanti is always a good thing).

It’s also noted Johns is still sticking with the DC Comics division, so no worries there.

The report also mentions WB is smoothing out the third act of Suicide Squad as “WB wants to make sure audiences expectations are not only met but exceeded,” and that Geoff Johns is involved in post-production.

It’s reported the reason WB parted ways with Seth Grahame-Smith over directing the Ezra Miler The Flash movie is because they didn’t want a newcomer on board — they want a seasoned vet who can make his stamp on a movie with a $150 million budget.

My two cents on Zack Snyder is that WB gave him too much free rein. It was a mistake to kill both Zod and Superman (among other things), something of which Christopher Nolan argued against. I think Snyder made the mistake of thinking he could do whatever he wanted with these iconic characters — thinking that fans would like whatever he did just because they are said iconic characters. I think Snyder made the mistake of intentionally attempting to go in an opposite approach than Marvel, with Marvel’s route being to basically stick pretty close to the comics and a big desire to please the fans. Snyder at times did what he wanted to do and laughed about it. Not a good thing, which Batman Vs. Superman, and Man of Steel to a lesser extent, proves. I think Snyder is a good visual director and there is a place for him in the DCEU, it’s just that he needs someone (Johns, Affleck, Berg) to rein him in.

Dear Chloe Bennet: Ask Ike Perlmutter Why Marvel Isn’t Connected

Agents of SHIELD‘s Chloe Bennet recently attended the Wizard World Des Moines Comic Con, where, like a lot of fans, she wondered why there wasn’t a connection between the Marvel movies and the Marvel TV shows.

Obviously, as the Marvel movies are uber popular, a nod to the television shows might be rather helpful.

Bennet has this to say (via io9) when asked if Hive was such a big threat, why wouldn’t the Avengers get involved:

I don’t know. People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care!

It’s also mentioned to Bennet that SHIELD doesn’t cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but would she want to:

I would love that. The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem to keen on that idea.

We see Bennet seems to be laying blame with the movie side of things, but maybe she should go ask her boss, Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, what’s up.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently parted ways with both Ike Perlmutter and his cronies that run TV and the comics, which includes Brian Michael Bendis, the creator or Bennet’s SHIELD character.  Head of Marvel TV,  Jeph Loeb, is also known to be chums with the group.

Here are a few things Perlmutter is said to have been responsible for (off the top of my head):

No female Marvel movies

No female Iron Man 3 villain

Cancellation of X-Men and Fantastic Four comics due to feud with Fox Studios

Cancellation of X-Men and Fantastic Four merchandise over feud with Fox Studios

Reason why Joss Whedon left Marvel following Avengers 2 (and now with Perlmutter out out of the picture, Whedon has renewed interest with Marvel)

Reason for Avengers 2 not doing as well as hoped (Perlmutter’s creative committee also blamed)

Reason why no Iron Man 4 (and now with Perlmutter out of the picture, there is renewed talk of Iron Man 4)

With Perlmutter now gone, Joe Russo has said Marvel Studios is a much healthier and better place to work at

Perlmutter’s TV and creative committee cancelled the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book knowing full well a movie was getting made and placed themselves on new comics and animated shows

Perlmutter forced an Inhumans movie

Problems with Robert Downey Jr. and paying the rest of the Avengers cast (RDJ backed up his fellow actors)

Marvel Studios Clueless When It Came To Iron Man 3 The Mandarin Reception

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black let loose in a new interview about the movie.

Not only did Shane Black discuss how Iron Man 3 originally had a female villain and why the character was axed, but Black also discussed the negative reception to the film and especially Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin — revealing Marvel Studios had no clue their version of the character would be received by the fans so poorly.

Via Uproxx:

I wish that the fans liked it more.

I’m a people pleaser. Marvel saw so many negative things they made a whole other movie just to apologize called Hail to the King. In which they said, “No, no, the Mandarin is still alive. That wasn’t him. There’s a real Mandarin.” The only reason they made that was an apology to fans who were so angry.

Of course, they didn’t care. But when the blowback hit, they cared.

No, we didn’t. We didn’t know. We all thought they’d eat it up because it never occurred to us the Mandarin is as iconic to people as, say, the Joker in Batman.

They just wanted to see the magic rings shoot lasers.

You’d need to take the piss out of it and explain how this can happen. In the comic books, it’s literally magic. It’s magic from outer space. I love the fans. I really want to please them.

Interestingly enough, Marvel is receiving similar criticism for the Ancient One in Doctor Strange as they changed the character’s origin and sex to Celtic and female. Note: The reason the Ancient One and Mandarin were changed in the movies is thought to be due to appeasing the Chinese, which has become a big cash cow for international box off receipts.

Up next for Shane Black is the new 2018 Predator movie.

Ike Perlmutter Axed Iron Man 3 Female Villain

Marvel Studios has been taking flak as of late for the lack of female centric movies as well as related merchandise.

Well, that looks to be changing as it’s known Marvel CEO Ike Permutter was the one putting the kibosh on female-related projects at Marvel Studios.

The good news is that Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige recently parted ways with Perlmutter and his Marvel TV/comics creative committee.

Leaked Sony e-mails revealed Perlmutter put a stop to female Marvel movies citing Elektra, Catwoman and Supergirl as being disasters.

There was also little to no merchandise for Black Widow from Avengers 2 (or Scarlet Witch).

Now it’s become known an early draft for Iron Man 3 actually featured a female villain, buy that, too, was put a stop to by Perlmutter.

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black talked with Uproxx about working on the movie where he let it be known Killian was originally female, but apparently Perlmutter (who is in charge of Marvel merchandise, TV and comics) axed the idea:

All I’ll say is this, on the record: There was an early draft of Iron Man 3 where we had an inkling of a problem. Which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft. We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and we’ve changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female.

So, we had to change the entire script because of toy making. Now, that’s not Feige. That’s Marvel corporate, but now you don’t have that problem anymore.

Yeah, Ike’s gone. But New York called and said, “That’s money out of our bank.” In the earlier draft, the woman was essentially Killian – and they didn’t want a female Killian, they wanted a male Killian. I liked the idea, like Remington Steele, you think it’s the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show. They just said, “no way.”

I remember Remington Steele probably better than it is. But just so you know, too, I’m a Kevin Feige fan. If you ever say anything about decisions made at Marvel, I hope you’ll qualify it by saying that Kevin Feige is the guy who gets it right. And I don’t know if it was Ike, I don’t know who it was. They never told me who made the decision, we just got that memo one day and it was about toy sales. That’s all I know.

Black also confirms two other female roles were cut short in Iron Man 3:

We had troubles. Memories are short. You can go through hell together, then six months later go, “That was kind of fun, wasn’t it, John?” The good news is, Downey and I seem to get on pretty well. We’ll bicker now and again, but to me just having him on board elevates the material. So, the toughness was in the logistics instead of the relationships. That’s the good news. We replaced a lot of things. The plot went this way and that way. Stéphanie Szostak’s character was bigger at one point and we reduced it. Rebecca Hall’s character was bigger at one point and we reduced it.

Marvel Studios has the female driven Captain Marvel movie set for a 2018 release.

Kevin Feige Says Inhumans Movie Is Still A Go

Last month Disney took the Inhumans movie off its release schedule, leading to speculation that rumors surrounding the cancellation of the film were true.

Now Kevin Feige addresses the future of Inhumans while appearing on the Captain America: Civil War podcast with Empire Online.

“The only situation right now is that it’s not going to be part of Phase Three, because Phase Three increased in a very good way since we originally announced it.

When and where and how it pops up remains to be seen, but it’s characters we love, it’s a storyline we love and we just didn’t want to cram it into an already quite full Phase Three.”

Regarding Kevin Feige stating Phase 3 increased in a good way, he is referring to the addition of Spider-Man: Homecoming as well as the Ant-Man & Wasp movie.

It should be noted the original rumor about the cancellation of Inhumans basically said Marvel would see it removed from its release date followed by its cancelleation with the reason being they couldn’t find the right director for the film. It’s been said the real reason for Inhumans getting the boot is due to Feige’s feud with Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter.

If the Inhumans movie is ever a go, it looks to be released later in 2019 or beyond.

Kevin Feige Confirms No Natalie Portman For Thor 3

With the news that Creed star Tessa Thompson will play the love interest to Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok, it was also said Natalie Portman wouldn’t be featured in the movie.

Now Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige confirms Natalie Portman won’t be in Thor 3 while appearing on an Empire Online podcast.

“I can confirm that, yes,” Feige said, who went on to explain there are “many reasons” for Portman’s absence and suggested it has more to do with the plot of Thor: Ragnarok than any possible rumors suggesting Portman has been at odds with Marvel ever since Patty Jenkins was let go from directing Thor 2. “Many of which are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

Feige also continued on with mention Thor: Ragnarok will be more set in space.

“Tonally and geographically there are a lot of different planets outside of the nine realms that we visit in Thor: Ragnarok,” Feige said.

Thor: Ragnarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi also starring Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Cate Blanchett is the rumored villain (possibly Hela).

Kevin Feige Comments On Captain America: Civil War Mid-Credit Scene

SPOILERS FOLLOW.

Captain America: Civil War features not one, but two post-credit scenes. The mid-credit scene features Bucky voluntarily going back under the cryogenic freeze because of the events that happened in the movie and the fact he’s still capable of being brainwashed.

The scene features Bucky, Cap and Black Panther, as Bucky is frozen at a location in Wakanda. Cap tells Black Panther if they know Winter Soldier is in Wakanda, they will come for him. Black Panther says let them, as the camera pans revealing Wakanda and a Black Panther statue.

Here is what Kevin Feige offered to Cinema Blend about the Captain America: Civil War mid-credit scene:

That was always sort of the idea for the end of the movie, and as the movie was being developed, it felt like it would be additionally cool to have that happen in Wakanda – a super advanced place. They’ve got something that he could go in. And also, it speaks to Panther’s arc. The person that he was out to kill early in the movie, he’s now nobly helping. And then, of course, that led organically to a cool moment, where Cap can go, ‘Thanks for doing this, but they’re going to come get you.’

“Captain America: Civil War” is now in theaters directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Regarding Thor and Hulk, Feige says they are not in Civil War, but we’ll learn what happened to them when Thor: Ragnarok hits in November 2017. Feige also said they begin filming in a couple of months.

Feige lets it be known we’ll see Nick Fury in an upcoming movie, but it’s not Thor: Ragnarok.

Feige also says the Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. scene in Captain America: Civil War was actually used for auditions. Robert Downey Jr. auditioned with various young actors using that scene, with Tom Holland being the best choice for the role.

For Spider-Man: Homecoming, Feige reiterates that Marvel has creative control of Spider-Man and says they have a great relationship with Sony.

Disney Officially Pulls Inhumans From Release Schedule

Following Kevin Feige letting it be known the Marvel Studios Inhumans movie has been delayed, now Disney has officially pulled Inhumans from its release schedule.

Deadline does point out Inhumans is still supposed to be made at some point. The original release date was July 12, 2019, and no other Marvel movie has seen a delay.

While Kevin Feige previously cited the new Spider-Man: Homecoming and Indiana Jones 5 movies as reason for Inhumans being taken off the schedule, I wouldn’t doubt if Marvel TV and Agents of SHIELD‘s use of the Inhumans had something to do with it.

Marvel Studios and Marvel TV are said to not get along, with Kevin Feige having booted them from involvement in the movies. It’s also been said prior to the breakup, that Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter wanted the Inhumans movie to get made, which would be an obvious tie in to Agents of SHIELD.

We now see Kevin Feige has put the brakes on any sort of connection between the Marvel movies and Marvel TV as – if Inhumans even gets made – it will be at least four or five (or more) years following Agents of SHIELD‘s Inhumans storyline. You can also bet if the Inhumans movie does get made, it won’t have anything to do with what happened in Agents of SHIELD as well.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel Studios scraps the Inhumans movie in its entirety.

Tim Miller and Simon Kinberg Want Avengers X-Men Marvel Crossover

Both Deadpool director Tim Miller and executive producer/writer of the X-Men movies Simon Kinberg talk about the potential of an Avengers and X-Men Marvel crossover.

“I would love to some day in part heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers,” Tim Miller told Crave Online.

“Yeah, I think we all would,” Simon Kinberg added. “There’s so much crossover in the comics it would be neat to one day be able see those characters share a movie.”

“Kevin [Feige] is so awesome,” Miller said. “Did you see my little pizza box in one of the scenes? ‘Feige’s Famous Pizza’ — that was my little.. trying to bring these worlds together.”

“Both of us are actually quite close with Kevin and have a profound amount of respect for what he does,” Kinberg offered. “And it would be fun to all team up one day, somehow, together, if that could work.”

“I think it’s a super smart move with Spider-Man. I mean, he’s great,” Miller said.

Miller also offered a resounding “no” when asked if he would like Gwenpool (good answer).

Regarding an X-Men and Avengers crossover, the latest rumor states that it’s happening after X-Men: Apocalypse with a movie possibly coming in 2020.

It also probably helps that long time X-Men producer Lauren Schuler Donner also happens to be friends with Feige as well as the two have worked together in the past.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Good News: Spider-Man Movie Is Marvel’s Says Kevin Feige

Following the less than well received Amazing Spider-Man movies, Sony wised up and turned to Marvel for help, which saw Tom Holland cast as the new Web Slinger, who will first appear in Captain America: Civil War followed by the standalone Spider-Man 2017 film.

Collider recently caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who offers the Spider-Man movie is essentially Marvel’s:

“We’re working very much [together]. It is a— I don’t know exactly what the credits will be, but it is a Sony Pictures production of a Marvel Studios film. The agreement was that it is very much a Sony Pictures movie. Amy Pascal is co-producing it with us and [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman is leading the charge for Sony and that we are the creative producers. We are the ones hiring the actor, introducing him in this film, and then working right now on the script and soon to be shooting the actual Spidey film.”

Feige also talks about how they are not going to feature a Spider-Man origin story, but instead, have Spider-Man as always being a part of the MCU, just that he first shows up in Captain America: Civil War:

We spend a lot of time as we work on these movies saying ‘Don’t take it for granted that the audience saw the other the other movies or that the audience is as versed in the comic books as we are.’ We take great pains to give you everything you need to know within the context of whatever movie you’re actually watching. However, we did say, if it’s safe to assume anything, it’s safe to assume that everybody knows how Spider-Man became Spider-Man and what that backstory was. We’ve seen it a number of times now, it’s its own well-known mythology. So we said, let’s reveal that there’s been a Spider-Man in the MCU and we meet him, as you see, in [Civil War].”

Feige continues with mention they aren’t really going to focus on Spider-Man’s past, but want to look ahead to the future:

“There are events that made Peter who he was, and we’ll certainly allude to those events, but we’re much more focused on his future and how he continues to grow and have a steep learning curve after, certainly, the adventure he had in Civil War on how to be his own hero.”

Captain America: Civil War has a May 6, 2016 release; the new Spider-Man movie comes out July 7, 2017 directed by Jon Watts.

Inhumans Movie Gets Delayed: Unknown Release Date

Following rumors stating Marvel Studios was cancelling the Inhumans movie over a rift with Marvel TV, now it’s learned the Inhumans movie has been pushed back and presently has no release date.

Inhumans was originally supposed to hit July 12, 2019, but now Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige says due to adding Spider-Man, Ant-Man and Wasp and Indiana Jones, that Inhumans gets placed on the back-burner (via Collider).

Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

Feige does offer Inhumans is still happening.

It’s a question of when.

Marvel TV has currently been exploring the world of the Inhumans on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. With Inhumans looking like a possible 2020 or beyond release date, that may give Marvel Studios enough time to separate their story from the TV version.

Charlie Cox also recently said Daredevil won’t be appearing in any Marvel movies.

Avengers Confirmed For Tom Holland Spider-Man Movie

With Spider-Man set to debut in Captain America: Civil War, it’s also learned Marvel Studios characters will cross over into the standalone Spidey movie in 2017.

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige confirmed the news to EW.com.

“He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth,” Feige said.

It’s unknown which Marvel characters will be appearing in the standalone Spider-Man movie, but Joe Russo offered a bit of a tease, with the article noting it’s probably a joke.

“Let’s just say … Great Lakes Avengers,” said Joe Russo.

With Marvel characters appearing in the Spider-Man movie, it’s probably a good bet that Spider-Man will be appearing in the Avengers: Infinity War movies, which are directed by the Russo Brothers as well.

Tom Holland is playing Spider-Man and debuts in Captain America: Civil War next month followed by the Spider-Man reboot that has a July 7, 2017 release date directed by Jon Watts.

X-Men Rumored To Marvel & Avengers Again; Singer Leaving Franchise?

Once again it’s being rumored that the X-Men will be coming back to Marvel.

Back last July saw a rumor hit that Fox and Marvel are planning an Avengers and X-Men move for 2020.

Now it’s being said that following X-Men: Apocalypse, the X-Men will be rebooted within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though Fox will still retain the rights.

The latest info comes from Comic Planet Culture For Life that also states X-Men: Apocalypse will be Bryan Singer’s last X-Men movie.

It’s also again said an announcement will be forthcoming; the first rumor stated an announcement about the X-Men and Marvel Avengers movie would be made at this year’s Comic-Con, which follows the May premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse. Whether the announcement comes this year (if it happens) remains to be seen, but Disney could always announce the Avengers and X-Men event in 2017 at their D23 Expo which just moved to the month of July (the month Comic-Con is normally held).

Regarding any evidence that Fox is teaming with Marvel for Avengers and X-Men, back about two years ago Kevin Feige said “never say never” regarding Marvel teaming up with any of the other studios. Of course, now we know Marvel is working together with Sony on Spider-Man.

Notable X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is also close to Marvel’s Kevin Feige, as the two worked together, and previously offered she would “love it” if the characters worked together with an enthusiastic “yeah, absolutely,” when questioned about a potential X-Men and Marvel crossover.

Possible further evidence may lie with the recent smash hit Deadpool movie, which features Marvel’s Avengers hellicarrier in the climactic scene. The Hellicarrier in Deadpool was confirmed by the concept artist: “[I] was asked to redesign the helicarrier so it looked as different as possible from the one in The Avengers. And it had to look like it had been taken apart in some places,” Emmanuel Shiu said.

It’s also suggested the previous rift between Marvel Comics and Fox may be over as Marvel Comics is now producing various X-Men related comic books. Marvel Comics previously killed off various X-Men characters including Wolverine and blew up the cast of the Fantastic Four reboot in one of their books. There is also the fact Marvel and Fox are working together on the FX X-Men TV series Legion and Hellfire.

Regarding Fantastic Four, no rumors have suggested the property may be going back to Marvel, but if the X-Men rumors pan out, more than likely Kevin Feige and Marvel will be coming in to save the day for FF as well.

Petition Launches For Richard Rider Nova For Avengers: Infinity War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24304:]]

It is critical that you pay attention at this time!

Richard Rider Nova fans have launched a petition requesting the inclusion of fan-favorite Marvel Comics character Richard Rider Nova in The Avengers: Infinity War movies.

You can sign the petition here.

The Richard Rider Nova character has a long and storied history in the comic book world beginning in 1976 with the publication of “The Man Called Nova.” Richard Rider Nova was an important part of the original “Infinity War” comic book event and was prominently featured in the story and on the cover art. We are writing to ask that you include Richard Rider Nova in the Infinity War movie as part of the large cast of characters who will be participating in the war to stop Thanos.

Nova was a sister title to Abnett and Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy title that inspired the billion dollar Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn Marvel Studios and Disney franchise. Though Nova didn’t happen to appear in the movie, his Guardians of the Galaxy movie action figure was the best-selling figure of the line, and Nova was even voted into the Marvel Heroes video game by the fans. Yep! You can’t keep a good man down!

For fans of the character, a likely added benefit of Richard Rider Nova appearing in the movie will be his return to the comic book world.  After all, the mere appearance of a character in a movie or TV show has worked for everyone from Howard the Duck to Hellcat.  The upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie has even brought Steve Rogers back to the Captain America role, and more than likely Thor’s return will be imminent as soon as Ragnarok gets closer to its release. So, if you want Rider back, this is likely the best shot for it to happen in the near future. Take a minute to add your name to the petition.  When the goal is reached, it will be sent to Kevin Feige and the Russo brothers.

Nova was even in early scripts of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so there is that to build upon.  Check out some cool concept art:

Thor: Ragnarok Will Feature Less Earth Says Feige

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23638:]]

Good news, Cosmic fans!

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige lets it be known that Thor: Ragnarok will feature less of Earth.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Feige says: “The film will take place in the cosmos primarily, which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.”

Honestly, I’m glad Thor 3 will be more cosmic and keep Thor in space as I wasn’t too happy with how they portrayed Thor recently on Earth in Avengers 2 (comic relief).

Feige also had more to say about Ragnarok: “I don’t think people will read into that title alone what the movie’s gong to be. It’s going to be perhaps as tonally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we’ve got new characters that will show how big we’re swinging on this. And we have a Hulk.”

Thor: Ragnarok has a November 3, 2017 release.

Thanos Won’t Be Messing Around In Next Appearance

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23633:]]

The Mad Titan has been less than angry (or crazy) in his appearances thus far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that’s all about to change for Thanos.

While Thanos appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige (and recently director James Gunn) says not to look for Thanos in the sequel.

“I wouldn’t look to hard in that movie for Thanos,” Feige told Empire Magazine about Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Feige continues with mention Thanos will be more than just a cameo that smirks when we see him next.

“Are you asking if he’s going to do more than sit in a chair and smirk? Oh, yes,” Feige offered. “The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, “Oh, that’s why they’ve been teasing this villain for five years!'”

The article then speculates the “smart money” is on Thanos coming to Earth to retrieve the Infinity Stone from Vision’s head in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.

Regarding Guardians of the Galaxy 2, while Thanos may not be featured, new members will.

“There have been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics,” Feige said. “And we’ll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie.”

Watch Thanos’s appearances in the MCU below as well as the Infinity War featurette.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release; “The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” hits May 4, 2018.

Kevin Feige Talks The Ancient One In Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23532:]]

With the release of the first look at Doctor Strange images came details about Rachel McAdams character, Mads Mikkelsen as the villain, Kevin Feige teasing the Time Gem, and now we hear from Kevin Feige about the Ancient One, the mentor to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange.

Kevin Feige told EW.com:

“We’re never afraid to change. In the comic books, Jarvis is an elderly butler. In the movies, he’s an A.I. system which becomes Paul Bettany’s Vision. We are always looking for ways to change. I think if you look at some of the early incarnations of the Ancient One in the comics, they are what we would consider today to be quite, sort of, stereotypical. They don’t hold up to what would work today. Also, within the storyline of the comics, and our movie, ‘the Ancient One’ is a title that many people have had. We hit very early on on, What if the Ancient One was a woman? What if the title had been passed and the current Ancient One is a woman? Oh, that’s an interesting idea. [Clicks fingers.] Tilda Swinton! Whoah! And it just hit.”

“Look, she’s a chameleon in everything she does. She has this amazing [ability to] harness of this androgynous sense. So, we use the term ‘her’ and ‘she’ in the film but, other than that, it’s very androgynous. Because it doesn’t matter.”

Swinton also said when asked if she is playing a man or woman:

“I wouldn’t know how to answer that one. I think it’s all in the eye of the beholder.”

Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release directed by Scott Derrickson starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Mads Mikkelsen.

Synopsis:

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.

Kevin Feige Talks Black Panther

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23531:]]

Check out what Kevin Feige had to say about Black Panther, who will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, played by Chadwick Boseman, prior to the 2018 standalone movie.

Via the latest issue of Empire Magazine:

“The one is important. Not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.

It’s a big geo-political action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what is means to be a king. T’Challa’s story is very important to us as it links to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward.”

It’s also noted that Feige said Black Panther will have a “primarily African-American cast.”

Black Panther hits February 16, 2018 and marks the last Marvel Phase III movie prior to The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.

Captain America: Civil War lands May 6, 2016.

Kevin Feige Hints At Time Gem For Doctor Strange’s Powers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23512:]]

With the release of the first look Doctor Strange images comes details on Benedict Cumberbatch’s powers. Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige offered the following to EW.com, which seems to hint the Time Gem (Infinity Stones) may be a part of the Eye of Agamotto.

“He can do a whole host of things, eventually. He does cast spells, which in the comics have very sort of tongue-twisty fun names. We don’t want to shy away from that, because that’s what makes Doctor Strange Doctor Strange. He has a Cloak of Levitation that allows him to fly, but he doesn’t fly like Superman or like Thor. It’s almost got a consciousness of its own, this cloak, which, again, gives us a superhero with a red cape — which we’ve seen a few times — but allows us to do it in a wholly unique and wholly original way. He can create these mandalas of light that he can use as shields and he can use as sort of weapons. He can create portalas that will open before your eyes that he can step through and go to other places around the world. And frankly, even in this film, we’ll only touch upon what a lot of his powers are.”

“The Cloak of Levitation [and] the Eye of Agamotto are his two signature pieces. In this film, the Eye is a very important relic that can be quite dangerous if used in the wrong hands, because it has the ability to do any number of things, the most dangerous of which is, it can sort of manipulate probabilities. Which is also another way of saying, ‘screw around with time’ — which is part of our story.”

Mads Mikkelsen Revealed To Be Doctor Strange Movie Villain

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23500:]]

Following the the first look at Bendict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, as well as details on Rachel McAdams’ character, now it’s been revealed that Mad Mikkelsen is playing the big bad of the movie.

While the character hasn’t been specifically named, Doctor Strange executive producer Stephen Strange and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige told EW.com the following:

Stephen Broussard:

Mads is playing our main villain.

I’ve seen lots of names thrown around. No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.

Kevin Feige:

“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there — wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie. But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions. (The article notes Feige said it is the “job of sorcerers like Strange and The Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, to protect humanity from such ‘scary things.’”

Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. [He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.

Rachel Adams’ Character Details In Doctor Strange Revealed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23492:]]

Details in regards to the role Rachel McAdams is playing in the Doctor Strange movie have become known.

EW.com has an article featuring comments from Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige, executive producer Stephen Broussard, and Benedict Cumberbatch revealing Rachel McAdams is playing a fellow surgeon to Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange; however, the specific name of McAdams’ character is not revealed:

Kevin Feige:

Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.

Stephen Broussard:

Rachel McAdams is sort of [Doctor Strange’s] contemporary in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey. So, she sees him before, she sees him after. She’s kind of this audience point of view.

Benedict Cumberbatch:

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say what the interest is. But if I hit on her more than the Ancient One, put it like that.”

It’s also been confirmed that Tilda Swinton is playing the Ancient One, with Mads Mikkelsen said to be the big bad of the movie,
