Marvel’s Dan Slott Has Coronary Over Batman Vs. Superman Gotham Footage

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23074:]]

Fan-favorite Marvel Comics writer of Spider-Man and Silver Surfer, Dan Slott, appears to not have taken favorably to the new Batman Vs. Superman footage which was released earlier during Gotham.

Slott took to Twitter to voice his disassatifaction even though – like the rest of us – he hasn’t seen the whole movie. Slott also appears to not be a big fan of Man of Steel.

Before any accussations of Slott being a Marvel shill begin, Dan does state he’s a big fan of The Flash and Supergirl.

*For the record, Dan didn’t have a coronary – at least we hope not.

Update: Dan Slott has posted even more tweets blasting Batman Vs. Superman and Zack Snyder.

Dan Slott Bringing Silver Surfer Back To Earth In Game-Changer (Video)

Marvel recently announced that Dan Slott and Mike Allred will be back on a new Silver Surfer ongoing next year.

While attending this weekend’s NYCC, Dan Slott talked with Marvel about the Silver Surfer, which sees the character’s 50th Anniversary take place next March.

In the above video, Slott revealed he is bringing the Silver Surfer back to where it all started – Earth – and that their first story will be a game-changer for the character.

“We taken one of our biggest stories and we are just going to explode with that first,” Slott said. “It’s huge, and it’s going to change Silver Surfer forever. We say that all the time. We say ‘break the internet, change forever,’  but no, this story is so big that when you try to explain Silver Surfer… you are going to have to mention this story from now on…. but by being so true to who and what the Silver Surfer is about… but it’s a major, major change for him that comes from the character, and you can never go back after this. You can never go back after this story. This is who Silver Surfer will be.”

Dan Slott also teased that Dawn might not be back for the series.

“We haven’t said if she is coming back,” Slott said. “That first cover, she’s not on it. It’s Dawn-less. You are going to have to wait and see if Dawn Greenwood is coming back.”

Slott continued by teasing the Surfer’s return to Earth.

“Now we are going to see Surfer on Earth because of stuff that is going to happen, and it’s going to be fun to see him interact with the Marvel Universe and do things with Earthlings.”

Apparently some web sites jumped the gun and mentioned Dan Slott and Mike Allred’s Silver Surfer series would be returning in 2016.

Well, that’s not the case. At least not, yet.

Mike Allred took to Twitter to state it’s up to Marvel for the series to return.

July’s Silver Surfer sold around 24k and change.

August’s Silver Surfer #15 looked to be the last issue; however, this month and October does see Marvel publish a bunch of Surfer trades.

Fantastic Four Casts Wants Silver Surfer & Namor For Sequel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21581:]]

Will we ever see the Sentinel of the Spaceways on the big screen again?

I would have to say it’s a good bet, especially if the Fantastic Four reboot is somewhat of a success.

While the 2007 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie was less than stellar, which I thought was more due to the writing, I was pretty happy with Doug Jones’ performance as the herald of Galactus. The movie actually wouldn’t have turned out that bad if they hadn’t used the Galactus cloud.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21582:]]

Last we heard about the Silver Surfer potentially appearing in a movie was the rumor that Marvel Studios wanted to trade the rights to Daredevil for Silver Surfer and Galactus. It’s possible Marvel wanted to use the cosmic duo in their Infinity War movies against Thanos. Obviously that didn’t happen, and Marvel so far has come out on top as the Netflix Daredevil show is considered a raging success.

So with Fox Studios keeping the rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus, now the Surfer’s name has popped up in relation to a potential Fantastic Four sequel. Jamie Bell, who is playing Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, says he would like to see the Silver Surfer as the next villain.

“You can’t get away from Silver Surfer,” Bell told ComicBook.com. “I know chronologically speaking that was the next villain in the previous franchise but I think Silver Surfer is cool looking.”

While the Fantastic Four movie has been getting some heat online, what I do appreciate about the film is that it’s a more serious take on science-fiction than the previous campy movies — and even Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. A really hard core serious approach with the Surfer would be out of this world.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21583:]]

Now a second potential villain named for the Fantastic Four sequel will be a little more difficult to use than the Silver Surfer. In the same interview, Michael B. Jordan, who plays Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, recommends Namor.

“Namor is a cool one,” Jordan said. “By far, he’s the strongest mutant. You know what I’m saying? Maybe not by far, but he’s the strongest mutant. It would be a pretty interesting battle, the Fantastic Four vs. Namor.”

The issue with Namor is that Fox Studios doesn’t own the rights to the character. Actually, both Universal Studios and Marvel Studios have their hands tied to the character, so unless both studios would agree to lend Fox Namor (which wouldn’t be unheard of as Sony and Marvel have come to a mutual deal for Spider-Man), The Sub-Mariner would be out of the question.

As Jordan notes, Namor has a history with the Fantastic Four, which would be pretty cool on the big screen if we did see the FF taking on Atlantis.

“The classic one where he’s running rampant and the only way he’ll stop is if he gets a kiss from Sue right in front of Reed. It’s awesome. I think that would make for a good movie and storyline.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21584:]]

“Fantastic Four” has an August 7, 2015 release directed by Josh Trank from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, Simon Kinberg and Josh Trank; produced by Matthew Vaughn, Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Robert Kulzar and Gregory Goodman; starring: Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell.

Synopsis:

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

James Gunn Wrote A Silver Surfer Movie Treatment

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20309:]]

James Gunn graces the cover to Marvel’s Silver Surfer #11 with a cover blurb.

Gunn posted the pic on his Facebook with mention at one time Fox approached him for a Silver Surfer movie.

Gunn says this was in 1999 before the 2005 Fantastic Four movie and its Silver Surfer sequel, so the FF weren’t included.

Check it out:

Hey my quote is on the cover of this month’s Silver Surfer so pick it up. Little known fact: When I first moved to LA in 1999, one of the first people I met on a meeting was an exec at Fox. He told me they wanted to make a Silver Surfer movie, and I might be right for that, so I wrote an extensive treatment. It was a huge story, cosmic as hell, and featured the Silver Surfer turning on Galactus (but no Fantastic Four – this was before the first FF film). At the same time, I was approached by director Jay Roach and his producer Shauna Robertson about writing a live-action Spy Vs. Spy film. That film seemed more likely to get made, and I loved Jay and Shauna, so I took that gig instead. It was my first studio film job. Of course, in eventuality, neither movie ever got made. But people liked the Spy Vs. Spy script, so I got a lot of work because of it. That said, I sometimes wonder what it would have been like had I truly jumped into the cosmic Marvel pool 16 years ago. Instead, I shall satisfy myself reading the great work of Dan Slott and Mike Allred every month!

James? Any chance there was a Surfer vs Galactus dance off at the end, bro?

Terry Crews Wants To Play Silver Surfer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18954:]]

With Mike Colter Marvel’s choice of Luke Cage, Terry Crews now states he wants to play another Marvel superhero.

Crews, in a Reddit fan QnA, states it’s the Silver Surfer.

You know?

Again… it’s hard to pick a favorite super-hero. I always did love Luke Cage, and I’m really, really happy about who they cast in the Netflix version of Luke Cage. So that’s something that’s already done. But you know who else I’d like to play? The Silver Surfer. I always LOVED – I thought I had the build, the body, I could get on that surfboard, and if they ever do a live-action version of Silver Surfer, I think that would be perfect for me.

In the comics, the character of Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd, happened to be a white guy, but as we’ve seen recently, the question of color doesn’t really matter.

Michael B. Jordan is playing the Human Torch for Fox, which also owns the rights to Silver Surfer. Perhaps along with the Fantastic Four reboot, a new Silver Surfer could be onboard as well.
