DC Movie Rumors Includes J.J Abrams For Man of Steel 2

A new batch of DC movie rumors has hit the net.

They come from 4 Chan so obviously take this with a grain of salt, but at least they’re rather fun.

We see J.J. Abrams is listed as a contender to do the second Superman Man of Steel 2 film. Abrams did write the Superman: Flyby script around 2002, plus he has had success reinventing the Star Trek and Star Wars‘ franchises. Maybe Superman needs a reinvention as well?

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is said to be up for Dwayne Johnson’s Shazam, which isn’t a bad choice at all. It’s possible Sam Raimi may want another crack at a superhero franchise following the disappointing Spider-Man 3, and also there is the fact that his Spider-Man 4 never got made.

George Miller, who was said to be directing Man of Steel 2, is listed as directing a New Gods movie. Miller is also rumored to be a producer on Justice League.

Gravity‘s Alfonso Cuaron is said to be in talks for the Green Lantern Corps movie. Cuaron also directed Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

It’s said Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins may be directing Justice League 2, which would mean Zack Snyder wouldn’t be returning for the sequel.

The rumors also include a list of release dates for upcoming DC movies. Worth a mention is that a Cyborg movie is missing. It seems a majority of the rumors coming out of 4Chan seem to insinuate a Cyborg movie might be off the table; however, earlier yesterday saw the news that Cyborg is being included in Justice League and The Flash to increase interest in the character and the planned 2020 Cyborg movie.

The release dates list below also has Ben Affleck’s solo The Batman movie hitting in 2019, which may hold some merit as Affleck and Geoff Johns may be taking their time to get the script right.

Here is the full list of rumors (via Reddit):

• Top candidates to direct Man of Steel 2 are Doug Liman, J.J Abrams and Edgar Wright.

•  Top candidates to direct Shazam are Sam Raimi and Shawn Levy.

• New Gods will be directed by George Miller.

• Alfonso Cuaron is on talks to direct Green Lantern Corps.

• Patty Jenkins might direct Justice League II.

• David Ayer will direct Suicide Squad 2.

• Warner Bros will be making casting and film announcements for their films in early September.

• Ocean Master will be in Aquaman but Black Manta will be the main villain. Ocean Master is being saved for a later film.

• Deathstroke will be in Suicide Squad 2.

• Multiple TV shows that connect to the DCEU have been discussed. Titans and Secret Six are the top candidates.

Rumored DC movie release dates list:

Wonder Woman- June 2nd, 2017
Justice League- November 17th, 2017
The Flash- April 13th, 2018
Aquaman- July 27th, 2018
Man of Steel 2- October 5th, 2018
Shazam- April 5th, 2019
Batman- June 14th, 2019
Suicide Squad 2- November 1st, 2019
New Gods- April 3rd, 2020
Green Lantern Corps- July 24th, 2020
Justice League II- October 2nd, 2020

Chris Rock Wants JJ Abrams To Save Fantastic Four

At the recent Tribeca Film Festival, Chris Rock and J.J. Abrams sat down for a Q&A, with Rock bringing up the Fantastic Four franchise.

As J.J. Abrams has saw success with Star Trek and Star Wars, Chris Rock asked Abrams to save Fantastic Four.

“Can you direct the Fantastic Four?” Rock asked him, reports EW.com. “Can someone save it? I love the Fantastic Four, and they keep f—ing it up!”

The latest Fantastic Four reboot tanked pretty bad at the box office netting only $167 million worldwide. Rotten Tomatoes also squashed the movie with a 9% approval rating.

Currently, there doesn’t look to be Fantastic Four sequel in the works.

Honestly, I didn’t think FF was all that bad. If they fix Doom, the Thing and gave it a bit more story, it may have not been all that bad.

Hey, with rumors of the X-Men going back to Marvel, maybe there is hope for Fantastic Four.

Star Trek Beyond To Be Released In Barco 3-Screen Experience Format

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Barco boldly go into the future of cinema with “Star Trek Beyond” release in Barco Escape

Digital Cinema Powerhouse Brings Multi-Screen, Panoramic Experience To Theaters This Summer

Digital cinema leader Barco and Bad Robot Productions today announced “Star Trek Beyond,” one of this year’s most anticipated films, will be released in Barco’s multi-screen theatrical format Barco Escape, bringing audiences inside the action from the interstellar franchise – like never before. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will master a special version of the film, expanding the storytelling across three screens to unveil a thrilling new movie going experience to audiences when the film, from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, releases on July 22. “Star Trek Beyond,” the third installment of the phenomenally successful reboot, is directed by Justin Lin, and stars Idris Elba, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zach Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Karl Urban. The most recent film, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” grossed more than $467 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing entry in the Star Trek franchise.

“Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond is an epic adventure — truly larger than life,” said producer and Bad Robot president J.J. Abrams. “It is especially fitting, then, that we are partnering with Barco to provide an ultra wide-screen immersive experience using their unique Barco Escape format. This premium format dramatically expands the width of the viewing plane, giving filmmakers an innovative new tool with which to tell stories and audiences an enhanced new way to experience cinema.”

Barco Escape will illuminate the Star Trek universe by creating key “moments” across all three screens that will exhilarate fans. Bad Robot will re-master more than 20 minutes of “Star Trek Beyond” into the new format. As part of Bad Robot’s commitment to the innovative technology, an executive from the company will also join Barco Escape’s advisory board.

“J.J. Abrams and the Star Trek franchise share in our passion for exploration and innovation, which is why we’re thrilled to lead Barco Escape’s 2016 lineup together with ‘Beyond,’” said CEO of Barco Escape, Todd Hoddick. “We are honored to have J.J. and the incredibly talented team at Bad Robot Productions as partners and look forward to sharing the power of this experience to capture the magnitude of big, bold stories like ‘Star Trek Beyond.’”

Since debuting in fall 2014 with the hit movie “The Maze Runner,” Barco has been working hand-in-hand with today’s top studios and filmmakers to create projects that offer audiences an unmatched viewing experience – only available in theaters. Director Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor,” “Need for Speed”) recently announced he is directing the first feature shot entirely for Barco Escape. The film, titled “6 Below” and starring Josh Hartnett, will be released later this year.

Barco Escape also holds a multi-year deal with 20th Century Fox and a development deal with Jerry Bruckheimer, who is also an advisory board member. Barco is committed this year to offering at least four films in Barco Escape, which has proven to bring audiences out to the cinema with its first two theatrical releases.

The fully DCI-compliant Barco Escape technology utilizes three cinema projectors and two additional cinemascope screens, allowing filmmakers to create for a much larger canvas. With current exhibitor partners in the United States, Europe, Mexico and China, Barco plans to expand to more than 100 Barco Escape theaters in 2016.

While promoting his latest movie, Midnight Special, Adam Driver talks about Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Obviously, Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, can’t say much, but he offers in the below video (via EW) that the script is great and jokes they are still at war.

“I didn’t turn into a new person,” Driver said regarding his life after Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted. “Nothing happened to me. But a lot of people saw it, and that was good. I guess my Christmas is kind of easier now – the toys and things for family. Kids is a big thing: I feel like before parents kept me away from their kids; now it’s like, go get a picture.”

Driver also confirmed they are presently in the middle of shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII.

“They’re still at war. It’s still Star Wars,” Driver offered. “They’re not at peace. They’re at war.”

Adam Driver also talked about working with Episode VIII director Rian Johnson compared to The Force Awakens‘ J.J. Abrams.

“Their temperaments are different,” Driver said. “I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language. I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can’t wait to get on set, just because he’s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they’ve come up with is really great.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Abrams kept it under wraps until the trailer was revealed in front of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours in movie theaters.

As the name suggests, it does seem to be related to the 2008 monster movie, but it’s been said 10 Cloverfield Lane is more of a cousin.

“The idea came up a long time ago during production,” Abrams told Collider (via Slash Film). “We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

10 Cloverfield Lane is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg with the script by Josh Campbell, Matt Steucken and Damien Chazelle.

According to the films IMDb listing, the movie stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr.

The description at IMDb also reads: Waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray To Have Deleted Scenes

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23707:]]

It’s learned the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray/DVD release will feature deleted scenes.

While promoting the Stephen King John F. Kennedy time travel series, 11.22.63, J.J. Abrams told EW.com deleted scenes will be part of The Force Awakens DVD, but not an extended edition. Abrams also let it be known the length of the first cut.

“I don’t know what the longest cut was,” Abrams said. “Probably, if it were with credits, close to two hours and 50 minutes was the first cut.” (Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a 2 hour 16 minute run-time)

Some of the deleted scenes included a shot where Kylo Ren turns on his lightsaber, and a shot of Maz Kanata placing the Skywalker lightsaber into the hand of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia.

Abrams also talked about completing the movie.

“I can’t believe that it’s done,” Abrams said. “It was three years of very tense work by a lot of people. I’m just so happy that all the work that everyone did. Even the people who you don’t see in the movie – the puppeteers who were painted out, I watched them in 125-degree heat in Abu Dhabi bringing BB-8 to life, and then we mercilessly painted them out in the movie. I’m just so glad that people get to see all the work that this amazing cast and crew did. Whatever the numbers are, honestly I’m just so grateful the movie is out there and has been well received.”

JJ Abrams Responds to Star Wars: The Force Awakens Complaints

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23690:]]

It seems the more and more people I talk to about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the more people are coming to realize the movie wasn’t really all that good.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a very entertaining movie, and it was nice to see Star Wars back on the big screen, but as our movie reviewer told me, once you take your Star Wars fanboy/girl goggless off, the movie falls short of Phantom Menace.

A big gripe fans have with the movie is that — we’ve seen it all before; even the major death scene, and the movie didn’t progress any of the storyline.

Now J.J. Abrams responds to the criticisms.

Oh, and there is a petition to get George Lucas back on Star Wars.

Via THR:

“I knew that, whatever we did, there would be a group of people — and I was just hoping and praying that it would be smaller than not — that would take issue with any number of things,” Abrams says in the latest episode of THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, admitting that everything about the project initially scared him. “But I knew we weren’t making the movie for any other reason than we believed that it could be something meaningful and special and entertaining and worthy of people’s time.”

“I can understand that someone might say, ‘Oh, it’s a complete rip-off!’ ” he says, adding, “What was important for me was introducing brand new characters using relationships that were embracing the history that we know to tell a story that is new — to go backwards to go forwards.”

Regarding why he didn’t continue on with the second movie:

“I realized when I was working on [The Force Awakens], the amount of energy that was required to tell the story, and do it justice, knowing when Episode VIII would start shooting, there was no way — if I wanted to still have my children talk to me in my old age — that doing that would make any sense,” he says. “If The Force Awakens worked, it was the perfect place to say, ‘I got to make a Star Wars movie,’ and not be a greedy bastard. If it didn’t work, no-one would want me doing it anyway.”

On Episode VIII:

“Larry [Kasdan] and I had a bunch of thoughts of where certain things could go and we shared those things with Rian Johnson, who’s directing VIII,” he says. “He had things that he came up with where he asked if it was possible if we could make some adjustments with what we were doing at the end, most of which we did — there were just a couple that didn’t feel right, so he made adjustments — but it was just collaboration.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Luke, R2-D2 & Early Story Details Explained

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23412:]]

Obvious spoilers follow for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We just learned Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda had an appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, now check out early story details as well as an explanation of what was going on with R2-D2 and Luke Skywalker.

Regarding the early story details that were part of an older draft of the script, screenwriter Michael Ardnt offered the following (via EW):

• R2 and C-3PO were originally written as showing up together, but Lawrence Kasdan said they should be kept separate from each other.

• Back in a version of the script from 2012, Rey met Luke Skywalker on Jakku following her home having been destroyed. Rey then went on to kick the “bad guy’s ass.”

• One story had the movie going in the direction of searching for Darth Vader’s remains.

• Another version had them on a quest to the underwater wreckage of the second Death Star to recover a key piece of history about sacred Jedi sites in the galaxy.

Why wasn’t Luke featured heavily?

• The reason why Luke wasn’t featured in The Force Awakens is because they thought any time they wrote him into the movie, Luke took it over, and then it was thought no one would care about the other (new) characters.

There has been question online surrounding what happened to R2-D2 and why he woke up the way he did. Here is the text from a post-credit screening Q&A that touches upon the subject:

•  R2-D2’s arrival had to be presented as a kind of delayed gratification, building up the audience’s expectation before the droid rolls out and starts beep-blooping.

•  “We had the idea about R2 plugging into the information base of the Death Star, and that’s how he was able to get the full map and find where the Jedi temples are,” Arndt said.

•  “But the idea was that in that scene where R2 plugged in, he downloaded the archives of the Empire, which was referenced by Kylo Ren,” Abrams said. Thirty-eight years later, in both our own and galactic time, that data becomes useful in The Force Awakens when a new droid approaches the dormant R2.

• “BB-8 comes up and says something to him, which is basically, ‘I’ve got this piece of a map, do you happen to have the rest?’” Abrams said. “The idea was, R2 who has been all over the galaxy, is still in his coma, but he hears this. And it triggers something that would ultimately wake him up.”

•  “While it may seem, you know, completely lucky and an easy way out, at that point in the movie, when you’ve lost a person, desperately, and somebody you hopefully care about is unconscious, you want someone to return.”

• So for those let wondering: BB-8’s earlier question rattles around inside R2’s dome for a while. Those old astromechs must just take a while to boot up again.

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Yoda Are In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23410:]]

I totally missed this when I first saw the movie, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda.

Director J.J. Abrams confirmed the use of the two Jedi Masters as their voices were featured in the Rey lightsaber vision scene. Frank Oz spoke as Yoda, and they used both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor for Obi-Wan.

“The idea of the voices was, we wanted the audience to feel – but not necessarily be presented right in your face — this idea that familiar, Force-strong voices were connecting with her. At least as well as they could,” Abrams told EW.com“You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!’ from that moment in Empire. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey … these are your first steps.’ Here’s the cool part. We asked Ewan McGregor to come in and do the line. And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever.”

Regarding the use of Alec Guinness’ voice, it’s revealed that Bryan Burk, producer on The Force Awakens, surprised Abrams with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s voice saying the name “Rey …”

“I said, ‘That’s cool, is that the thing from Ewan McGregor?’” Abrams said. “He said ‘No, we took a line from Alec Guinness saying ‘Afraid.’

“They cut it, and you hear the performance – he’s saying it the way I would have begged Alec Guinness to have said it. It is so crazy perfect,” Abrams explained.  “So when you hear Obi-Wan talk to Rey it is both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor doing the voice.”

Mark Hamill To Host EPSN Star Wars Documentary

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23192:]]

While we have yet to see Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the actor can be seen hosting a Star Wars documentary on ESPN.

Examining the sport and athleticism behind the choreography and training utilized in the making of Star Wars lightsaber duels, Star Wars: Evolution of the Lightsaber Duel, hosted by Mark Hamill, will air Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The documentary will precede the Friday, Dec. 18, launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in U.S. theaters.

Check out the trailer below.

“Lightsaber duels from the Star Wars films are some of cinema’s most recognized battles and an iconic part of the most popular movie franchise of all time,” said Craig Lazarus, ESPN vice president, SportsCenter & News, Storytelling Units.

“We will take viewers on a unique journey that examines the connection of these duels to sports and their evolution, from the original trilogy through the prequels, and now to Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Lazarus. “Viewers will see the transition from fencing and samurai swordplay in the original films to an increased focus on martial arts and the sport of kendo.”

For the documentary, ESPN traveled to the 2015 Kendo World Championships in Japan to gather interviews and information to explain the genesis of kendo and how it applies to Star Wars lightsaber duels.

Hamill, who reprises his role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, lived in Japan for his last two years of high school and is very familiar with kendo.

“I really feel that kendo has informed so much of what we have done in the films it is about time that it gets some long-overdue recognition,” Hamill said.

What people don’t realize is how much goes into what appears to be just minutes on the screen,” Hamill said. “The elaborate choreography for the actual fight is done on several different sets over a period of weeks and then it is edited down to what you see on the screens, so I am happy people are able to see the amount of work that goes into it.”

The program also will include behind-the-scenes video of actor John Boyega, who plays Finn in the new film, as he trains for a lightsaber battle scene. Boyega is interviewed for the program as is his kendo trainer, Paul Vincent.

SC Featured also traveled to England to interview actor Ian McDiarmid, who portrayed Emperor Palpatine in previous Star Wars films and Nick Gillard, kendo expert and former Star Wars stunt man and choreographer.

New interviews with film director/producer J.J. Abrams and Jonathan W. Rinzler, Lucasfilm historian, are also part of the documentary along with rare, behind-the-scenes footage from the Lucasfilm archive.

On Oct. 19, the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted during halftime of ESPN’s Monday Night Football game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, with tickets for the movie going on sale immediately afterward.
