Avengers: Infinity War Saved Captain America In Civil War

While Captain America: Civil War may have seemed like more show than actual substance as there seemed to be no ramifcations, now two things are learned about the movie offering what went down in the movie actually mattered.

The film took a different road than the Civil War comics in that Captain America actually survives.

Now we find out why.

It’s because of Thanos.

Captain America: Civil War directors and writers spoke with HP about the ending to the film. They not only let it be known that Cap survived because of Avengers: Infinity War, but also that Steve Rogers no longer considers himself “Captain America” anymore; so we do see the end of the movie with Cap dropping the shield and the Avengers splitting actually makes its way throughout other Marvel movies.

Regarding dropping the Captain America mantle:

“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” Joe Russo said. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”

Why Captain America survived:

“There’s a big purple guy coming. He could be very helpful,” added writer Christopher Markus.

“The Avengers: Infinity War” has a May 4, 2018 release.

Captain America 3 Original Story Revealed Prior To Civil War

Marvel green lit Captain America: Civil War as a result of WB first announcing Batman Vs. Superman.

Now it’s learned what the third Captain America movie was originally going to be about, which was going to see Cap vs. a zombie-like horde and not featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

Joe and Anthony Russo reveal that Captain America 3 would have featured the Madbomb story from Captain America #193-200 by Jack Kirby, which sees Cap taking on an army of underground killers.

“There was a period where we did discuss a third act that revolved around the Madbomb from Cap mythology,” Anthony Russo told EW. “It didn’t have anything to do with Civil War, and if we couldn’t get Downey – in the very, very early conversations before we nailed him – somebody pitched the idea of a third-act that revolved around the Madbomb, which makes people crazy. It almost like zombifies them – but not literally.”

As noted, Captain America: Civil War couldn’t have worked without Robert Downey Jr. The article notes Downey Jr. fullfilled his Marvel contract, so his involvment in further movies was up in the air; however, Marvel and Downey Jr. came to a new deal.

“The charm of the Madbomb is that you turn hordes of people into berserkers,” Anthony continued. “That was the physical challenge that Cap and company would have had to face.”

“The notion of the Madbomb would have been Cap having to fight civilians and how he would he handle that,” Joe Russo said. “We were always trying to put him into these interesting moral conundrums because of his nature. That would have made a compelling third act because if civilians are the antagonists, how could he stop them without killing them?”

“Somebody you know has turned into a zombie and now you have to fight them,” Anthony said. “And there would have been the emotional component of that.”

Marvel released further information on the debut of the Captain America 75th anniversary statue at Comic-Con. The statue will be on display at the Marvel Booth (#2329) prior to making its home in Brookyn. See full details below.

MARVEL UNVEILS NEW DETAILS ON TRIBUTE STATUE CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF CAPTAIN AMERICA

Heroic 13-Foot Statue Debuts at San Diego Comic Con Before Journeying to Steve Rogers’ Birthplace of Brooklyn, NY

Marvel and Comicave Studios also issue new Custom Comic Integrating the Statue into a new Captain America Story

Glendale, Calif. (July 20, 2016) – Since his creation in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, Captain America has gone through numerous evolutions, but always remains as one of the world’s most influential and inspiring Super Heroes. Kicking off a new phase of the year-long celebration of 75 years of Captain America, Marvel Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media have unveiled a slate of heroic activations taking place at San Diego Comic-Con and beyond to honor the First Avenger, along with a wide range of celebratory merchandise.

Headlining the Captain America 75th anniversary celebration, Marvel has collaborated with high-end collectibles maker Comicave Studios to create a one-of-a-kind Captain America statue that will be displayed at the Marvel booth #2329 at Comic-Con International on July 20. Comicave Studios worked closely with Marvel artists in New York and a Brooklyn-based sculptor to design the bronze tribute, standing at over 13 feet and weighing 1 ton. The statue will continue to stand tall on the show floor throughout San Diego Comic-Con for photo ops with fans, and 1/12-scale bronze replicas of the statue will be available for purchase. Plus, a custom comic book was created by Marvel Publishing writers and artists to integrate the statue into new storytelling. This one-of-a-kind comic will be available in limited quantities at San Diego Comic-Con and future Captain America events.

Following SDCC, the commemorative statue will journey via truck across the country to Brooklyn, NY – the hometown of Steve Rogers – for a limited engagement in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Fans can follow the truck along its cross-country route through photos on social media sites like Marvel and StyledByMarvel Instagram. The statue will be on display in the Children’s Corner of Prospect Park for a two-week temporary installation, kicking off with a dedication ceremony and community event on August 10th from 1-3pm. In the evening, a special viewing of the recent blockbuster film, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, will take place in Prospect Park as part of the culmination of the Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams’ “A Summer Movie Under the Stars” program, which will be airing four Captain America-focused movies every Wednesday from July 20th to August 10th.

“To the rest of America and the world, he’s Captain America; to us, he’ll always be Steve Rogers, ‘just a kid from Brooklyn,’” said Borough President Adams. “Brooklyn is proud to be the base of celebrations for Cap’s 75th anniversary, which will be capped by a larger-than-life statue traveling around our borough — befitting of this larger-than-life character. Prospect Park is the place to be this summer to enjoy the Captain America!”

After the half-month stop in Prospect Park, the Captain America statue will move to the plaza outside Barclays Center on Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues for September, during which several Marvel fan activations take place. From late October through the remainder of the year, the statue will adorn the soon-to-be-opened Bed Bath & Beyond® in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Fans of all ages will enjoy a specially re-designed statue base, for heightened interactivity and photo opportunities with Captain America, as well as see and shop for a variety of unique Marvel items, including limited quantities of scaled replicas of the bronze statue itself.

“Since 1941 Captain America has remained one of the most influential Super Heroes in comic book history,” said Paul Gitter, senior vice president, licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products. “He has evolved as a character throughout the years, but remains constant as a moral compass within the Marvel Universe and leader of the Avengers. The tribute statue and other activations are the perfect way to honor 75 years of this iconic Super Hero and to celebrate the borough of Brooklyn in New York City.”

Also joining the 75th celebration at San Diego Comic-Con are Marvel’s leading merchandise partners including Hasbro, Funko, and Jakks Pacific who will be commemorating “Cap” through new collectibles. As previously announced, Comicave Studios will also be offering different scales of replicas of the bronze statue itself at San Diego Comic-Con. Additional licensees including Mad Engine, Mighty Fine, Freeze, C-Life, Her Universe, What’s Your Passion, Nick Graham, Café Press, Jay Franco, Kiddesigns, HJC Helmets and more will all feature new Captain America merchandise at major retailers this Fall. These collections will highlight Captain America’s iconic shield and cover categories including apparel and accessories for kids, women and men, home goods, electronics, and toys. There will even be new Brooklyn-themed artwork available for a range of apparel and accessories.

Captain America: Civil War Scarlet Witch Concept Art Revealed

Check out concept art below for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel concept artist Andy Park posted the art on Instagram. You can also check out additional art from the Captain America: Civil War Art of the Movie book below.

“This is one of the concept design illustrations I did of Scarlet Witch for Captain America: Civil War,” Park posted on Instagram. “This was a version I pretty much knew they wouldn’t pick but had to try. Specifically, I’m referring to her headband, which mimics her classic headdress from the comics. I really don’t think she needs this but I did it more for the fun of it.”

Illustrator Scott Johnson then added Marvel licensing had him change up the image a bit.

“Then licensing had me photobash this together based on that piece. I wanted wild hair but they said no,” Johnson tweeted.

Peyton Reed Updates Ant-Man & Wasp Movie

Peyton Reed offers an update on the sequel to Ant-Man at the recent Saturn Awards where not only did Ant-Man win the Best Comic-To-Film award, but it also beat out Avengers 2.

Regarding where we’ll see Scott Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Reed tells Modern Myth Media:

Well he’s a fugitive in most of the first Ant-Man movie… you do have to sort of consider what happened in the previous movies in terms of your jumping-off point for those characters…  we definitely have stuff figured out, so there will be some big leaps. forward.

Rearding the Wasp, Reed offers we’ll see her in costume with all her powers:

It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.

While no plot elements are known, Reed said he is looking to the comic books for inspiration:

I’m cutting a wide swath on that stuff. I go back to early, early Avengers stuff and all the way up to the Nick Spencer stuff now. I just sort of devour it all. And really in terms of maybe even more than story stuff, just looking at imagery and for me what were iconic images and how we can squeeze those into the movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp has a July 6, 2018 release starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.
