Marvel Announces Captain America: Civil War Merchandise

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20927:]]

Marvel has announces licensees for Captain America: Civil War.

Variety reports Marvel gave retails a first look at Captain America: Civil War merchandise today at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo including apparel, accessories, footwear, core toys, sporting goods, consumer electronics, seasonal, costumes, party goods, stationery, food, home furnishings and collectibles.

Some of the brands signed on for Captain America: Civil War also include Hasbro, Lego, Funko, Hot Wheels, Rubies, Mad Engine, C-Life, Jay Franco, Global Brand Group, Kellogg’s, Hallmark and American Greetings.

It’s noted the Captain America: Civil War merchandise will land on shelves about eight weeks prior to the film’s May 6, 2016 release, and also there will be a focus on adult female apparel as well as the newer characters War Machine, Falcon, Vision, Black Widow and Black Panther.

In addition, a celebration of Captain America’s 75th Anniversary will be limited to higher-end retailers.

“We’ll see an extension mixing in new characters with new skills,” Paul Gitter, senior VP of licensing for Marvel at Disney Consumer Products  said. “There will also be a big focus on adult female apparel. The Avengers team is both aspirational and hugely merchandisable, made up of multiple, unique heroes coming together with amazing skills, cool vehicles and a high tech headquarters. Captain America: Civil War not only gives us new storytelling for our favorite superheroes, but also introduces new ones allowing us to expand product lines for kids and fans.”

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

No Marvel Studios Stated Again For Comic-Con; Batman Vs Superman May Be Big

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20905:]]

Confirming what James Gunn said back in March, now Deadline is stating that Marvel Studios will not have a presentation in Hall H at Comic-Con.

The report mentions that “Kevin Feige just doesn’t have anything new to show,” which is a rather odd statement as Marvel has Ant-Man opening the following week in addition to Marvel filming Captain America: Civil War and plans for Doctor Strange to be released in 2016, with filming to begin later this year.

There is also the fact that Marvel could have revealed their new Spider-Man at Comic-Con.

More than likely, Disney is holding back Marvel Studios from Comic-Con for either their own event, similar to the Avengers: Infinity War announcement with Black Panther at El Capitan theater from last year, or the Disney D23 Expo a month after Comic-Con in August.

It is noted that Marvel Studios’ absence will leave Warner Bros. with, potentially, a significant presence of its own as Batman Vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League Part 1 are lined up. It’s possible Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and others may be at Comic-Con representing the DC movies.

For Marvel fans, while Marvel Studios will not be at the SDCC, Marvel Comics will be there with a booth and panels of their own.

Comic-Con takes place July 9-12 in San Diego.

Martin Freeman’s Role Rumored For Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20850:]]

The Hobbit star Martin Freeman has been named to be a part of Captain America: Civil War in an unknown role.

Now the mystery role may be revealed.

Possible spoilers follow.

Latino Review is stating Martin Freeman is playing Edward Chase, the Prime Minister of England who is in favor of super human registration.

It’s suggested that Andy Serkis was on the phone with Chase during The Avengers 2 when Klaw mentioned: “Now, Minister, where were we?”

According to the rumor, a joint international mission goes south at the start of Captain America: Civil War that involves British soldiers, with Chase arguing for a better worldwide plan to keep the Avengers in check.

It’s also said Chase may be attempting to collect Vibranium (what the phone call was about) to use against super humans.

It’s further suggested that Chase’s motives make it appear as if the character is a villain in the movie as he is set against the Avengers (or at least Cap’s side).

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

No Samuel L. Jackson For Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20848:]]

It’s learned Samuel L. Jackson will not be a part of Captain America: Civil War.

Jackson recently spoke with Collider where he let the news be known.

I’m not in Captain America 3. I can’t figure that out, but I’m not. I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are.

The article notes Jackson has two more Marvel movies left on his contract, which may mean Nick Fury is being saved for the Avengers: Infinity War movies, but Jackson offers he still wants to stick around for more.

“Of course [I’m interested in returning]! I’m looking for a contract extension right now, yeah. I’m looking to re-up.”

Jackson has been featured as Nick Fury in seven Marvel movies as well as video games and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Marvel May Decide On New Spider-Man Within A Week

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20800:]]

It’s being said the new Spider-Man may be chosen within a week.

THR offers an update on the Spider-Man casting, which offers that contrary to internet rumor, Asa Butterfield has not been cast or offered the role.

The report mentions six actors were flown into Atlanta, where Captain America: Civil War is filming, to test for the role with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige present as well as Joe and Anthony Russo (directors on Cap 3) and Amy Pascal of Sony.

It’s said Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Rowe and Charlie Plummer were the actors tested.

Apparently, the Atlanta test capped off a worldwide search in which Marvel and Sony execs looked at over 1,500 boys from around the world and narrowed them down to the final six only in the last two weeks or so.

It’s further said an inside source has cautioned there is a slim chance that Marvel won’t like any of their choices and could keep looking.

Of course, another possibility is that the new Spider-Man has already been cast and this is just more smoke and mirrors on the part of Marvel.

Aside from internet rumor, recent reports have made no mention of Dylan O’Brien or Logan Lerman for the role.

The new Spider-Man is said to be first appearing in Captain America: Civil War followed by a new 2017 standalone movie.

Avengers Thanos Actor Spotted On Captain America: Civil War Set

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20747:]]

To date, at least in my opinion, Thanos’ appearance in The Avengers post-credit tease has yet to be topped.

Damion Poitier portrayed the Mad Titan for The Avengers, and with a simple smile revealed more about Thanos than James Gunn did in Guardians of the Galaxy and Whedon did with The Avengers 2 (CGI with Brolin voice).

Now the actor that portrayed Thanos in The Avengers movie, Damion Poitier, has been spotted on the set of Captain America: Civil War in an unknown role (note: Poitier isn’t playing Thanos anymore).

Poitier is also known for doing stunt work – he was a stuntman on Thor 2 – so he could be back doing stunts for Captain America: Civil War as well.

Poitier did previously state he was in talks for a legit Marvel role, so this could be it.

Check out a cool Captain America: Civil War set video featuring Falcon flying in to save the day as he boots some bad guy in the face upon landing.

The video states Falon takes out a soldier, with the setting looking something like out of a third world country.

There is also green screen covering the windows on the building, which may suggest at some point, they get blown out.

Some online have thought the scene might takes place in Wakanda, but at least in the comics, I think Wakanda isn’t considered third world and is better off than most African nations due to its vibranium mines.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20562:]]

It’s once again being said Asa Butterfield is Marvel’s top choice to play Spider-Man; however, contrary to internet rumors, Butterfield has not yet been cast.

At least not yet.

Deadline offers an update in that Asa Butterfield and four other actors are in line to play the new Spider-Man, with the character thought to be debuting in Captain America: Civil War prior to the new Sony Spider-Man movie. Butterfield “currently stands as first among equals, but nothing is set in stone.”

Other actors previously said to be up for the new Spider-Man include Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.

It’s possible a Spider-Man casting announcement may come soon as reportedly the actor will be needed in June for filming on Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel and Sony’s new Spider-Man will follow Peter Parker through his high school years.

Butterfield has been on our own list to play Spider-Man since December.

Mark Millar Hints At Martin Freeman’s Role In Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20486:]]

Martin Freeman is the latest addition to the ever-growing list of actors in Captain America: Civil War.

There are many fan theories who Freeman might be playing, but writer of the comic, Mark Millar, does know specifics.

Millar teases (via Radio Times) that it’s not a superhero, and to somebody familiar with Marvel, that it’s obvious.

I know who he’s playing in the film, but I guess it’s still a secret. The character is not a super-person, it’s somebody who’s… well, I don’t want to spoil it for anybody but he’s not going to be in costume. He’s a great actor he could play anyone – he could play Hit-Girl! Once you get to see it, it’s so obvious. All I’ll say is, he’s not [Captain America villain] the Red Skull.

The current speculation is that Martin Freeman may be playing Everett Ross, a government liason to Wakanda (home of the Black Panther); another guess it that Freeman could be playing Henry Gyrich, a U.S. govt. liason to the Avengers; a third guess is that Freeman may be playing Norman Osborn, and a fourth guess is J. Jonah Jameson.
