Jared Leto Reveals New Harley Quinn & Joker Image For Suicide Squad

Jared Leto has revealed another image on Instagram from Suicide Squad, this time featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and himself as the Joker.

The new image below seems to follow the previously released image of the pair (above), and who knows, may be their first kiss.

“Suicide Squad” has an August 5, 2016 release date directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Synopsis:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Margot Robbie Harley Quinn Suicide Squad Spinoff Movie In Development

It’s rumored that Margot Robbie may be getting a Harley Quinn movie, which would spinoff from August’s Suicide Squad.

THR reports Warner Bros. is already contemplating a spinoff for the DC Entertainment anti-heroine, Harley Quinn.

It’s also said not only will Margot Robbie star in the spinoff, but produce as well.

According to the report, the movie is not a solo Harley Quinn movie, but a film focusing on several of DC’s female heroes and villains with Batgirl and the Birds of Prey mentioned.

It is likely Black Canary could be among the mix of female heroes used as the Arrow TV show recently killed off their own version. We know from Suicide Squad that WB has axed TV characters that are used in the movies (other than the uber popular Grant Gustin Flash).

DC Entertainment also launched a new female-oriented brand aimed at young girls with DC Super Hero Girls, which features Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, Katana and many more.

Margot Robbie is said to have pitched the idea for the movie as when she received the Harley Quinn part, she delved deep into the history of the comic books and also is said to have brought a writer on board (hence the producer credit).

Margot Robbie also stars in the upcoming Legend of Tarzan for WB.

Margot Robbie Talks Landing Harley Quinn For Suicide Squad

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24630:]]

In a recent interview, Margot Robbie lets it be known she signed on to play Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad prior to reading the script or knowing anything about the character. Check it out:

I was actually about to sign up for another project, and Warner Bros. heard that I was about to sign on to something else. Before I signed on, they quickly jumped in and said, “Before you do that, just consider this role, because you don’t want to miss this! You’d be right for it!” And I was like “Oh, ok, let me read the script.” And they were like, “There is no script!” And I was like, “Oookay who else is in it?” And they were like, “No one yet!” And I was like, “okay, what is this film?”

The only information [they gave me] was, “Harley Quinn, a comic book character,” and I never read the comics. Then [they told me] David Ayer [is] directing. That’s all I needed to hear. I heard David, and I was like, “Oh I’m in.” I was obsessed with End of Watch, and I thought that was such a brilliant movie, and I saw it like four times. I think he’s so talented, and to do a comic book movie with a director like David, who is going to make it so dark and cool and different, just to me, that sounded like exactly what I thought they should be doing with comic book movies. I was on board. And you know, fortunately the end product [became] something even better than I could have ever imagined.

Margot Robbie also told hellogiggles they tried on lots of different Harley Quinn outfits including the well known court jester costume, which may make it into the planned Suicide Squad sequel.

Margot Robbie Talks Harley Quinn and Will Smith For Suicide Squad

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23600:]]

With the new Suicide Squad trailer coming later this month, now comes Margot Robbie talking about Harley Quinn and reuniting with Focus co-star Wil Smith.

Via Cineplex:

“Harley is creepy, violent, crazy — all of the things that I aspire to be! No. It’s the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life.

“I enjoyed working with Will so, so much that I was overjoyed when I heard that we would be working together again. I actually texted him when I heard he was in negotiations to be in Suicide Squad and kept peer-pressuring him, ‘You’d better be taking this movie!’ He obviously signed on for his own reasons, but I was so incredibly happy that we got to do Round Two. He’s awesome on set and awesome off set. He’s just a really, really good person.”

Margot Robbie Talks Fantastic Four & Jared Leto’s Joker

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21862:]]

Margot Robbie lets it be known she has dodged the proverbial bullet as prior to Suicide Squad, she was up for the role of Invisible Woman Sue Storm in the Josh Trank Fantastic Four movie which went to Kate Mara.

Prior to Suicide Squad wrapping, Robbie spoke with the NY Daily News about FF.

“I didn’t really resonate with the script, and I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t really know how it turned out different from the page,” Robbie said of Fantastic Four“But I had a great meeting with the director [Josh Trank] and I really enjoyed that. I guess it’s part of the game: sometime you win some, sometimes you lose some.”

It ended up working out that David Ayer would cast Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, the side kick to Jared Leto’s Joker, a role, which by all accounts, looks to be a blockbuster for Robbie.

“What he’s doing with the character is so cool,” she said of Leto as the Joker. “At first it was kind of confronting (to be up close) but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused.”

Margot Robbie also offered her character is just as crazy as the Joker.

“I guess the one common denominator is we’re all bad guys, it just makes everything more fun that way,” Robbie offered. “The scenes are more interesting I feel, when you just don’t know how the characters are going to react, especially with Harley, who’s absolutely nuts… she’s either going to kill you or laugh and give you a hug.”

Suicide Squad” has an August 5, 2016 release date directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Big Things Were Planned For Harley Quinn In Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20726:]]

What could have been…

Season 2 of Arrow featured a cameo by Harley Quinn played by Cassidy Alexa, with the deleted scene (watch below) featuring Tara Strong’s voice as well.

Now while appearing at the MCM London Comic-Con this weekend, Willa Holland, who plays Thea Queen, let it be known big things were planned for Harley Quinn in Arrow.

“We had big plans for Harley,” Willa Holland revealed, reports Flickering Myth. “But, I guess something came down from DC execs that told us to shut it down. I mean we had that tease with the pigtails and the ARGUS outfit but, we’ll never see it. We would love to [have] Harley in Arrow but it will never happen.”

Obviously, what came down was Harley Quinn being a member of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie, which is what happened with Arrow‘s version of Deadshot as well. Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim revealed a couple of months ago that Deadshot was off the table.

That’s not the only character the WB execs axed – originally, Brandon Routh’s Atom was going to be Blue Beetle, but WB said no to using Blue Beetle and suggested Atom.

It will be interesting to see what happens when The Flash movie gets going.

Leaked Suicide Squad Images Reveal How Joker Got Tattoos

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20441:]]

So why was Jared Leto seemingly screaming in the first look at Joker image from Suicide Squad?

Well, we may now have the answer as a reported leaked Suicide Squad image reveals Harley Quinn as the tattoo artist.

It’s unclear where exactly the image came from, but if legit, it appears to more resemble concept art than an actual photo.

It also begs the question if indeed it is legitimate whether or not the Joker’s tattoos are real and will be a part of the movie.

Fan reception to the Joker tattoos hasn’t been all that positive, and there has been rumor the Joker tattooes will not be a part of the character in the actual film.

Bruce Timm Reacts To Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20417:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20416:]]

Many fans think of Bruce Timm as the DC equivalent of Marvel’s Kevin Feige – just that the Warner executives haven’t realized it as of yet.

Timm is responsible for the stellar DC animated series and has Justice League: Gods and Monsters coming out soon.

Bruce Timm was also responsible for bringing Harley Quinn to the limelight and now offers his reaction to the look of Margot Robbie for Suicide Squad.

Timm tells io9 the following:

I just saw the pic like a couple hours ago. It was interesting. I was frankly a little nervous about what Harley would look like, but I thought she looked really cool. So I’m optimistic, we see.

I just saw the one shot of her in the group shot. So far so good.

Timm on the most important elements of Harley Quinn:

It’s funny, because she started off as just like a one joke idea and she’s gained all these different dimensions from all the stories we did, and the stuff that happens in the comics. I think bottom line the most important thing about her is that she’s funny. One way or the other regardless of what her backstory is, or whether she’s in an abusive relationship with the Joker, or if she’s off on her own, or hanging out with Poison Ivy, or whether she’s a villain or a hero. I think bottomline her stories always have to be fun, if not flat out hilarious (but that would be even better). That’s one of the things I like about the current comic. They understand that, they’re not treating her as another angsty bizarre superhero type character. She’s really weird and funny and kind of chaotic.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20381:]]

Check out Suicide Squad set video out of Toronto featuring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jay Hernandez and Joel Kinnaman.

Kinnaman’s Rick Flag apparently has some sort of grappling gun as we see him point in air and then fly up. We also see him (or a stuntman) dangling in the air.

We also see a behind shot of Harley Quinn where it looks as if her jacket reads “Propery of Joker.”

No Batman or Harley Quinn For Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19573:]]

Exectutive producer and showrunner of Arrow, Marc Guggenheim, recently attended the Long Beach Comics Expo in Long Beach, CA.

Guggenheim was part of a panel where he discussed Arrow and working with DC.

Before we dive into Arrow, Guggenheim commented on the 2011 Green Lantern movie noting that he didn’t have control over the film (which explains a lot).

“With ‘Green Lantern,’ we [he and Co-Showrunner Greg Berlanti] really learned the lesson of control. We didn’t have it on ‘Green Lantern.’ It got taken out of our hands at a certain point, and stuff happened. The difference between features and TV is that on TV, as a writer, you’re writing for your life. Every eight business days, there’s a new script due, and as a showrunner, it all goes through your pen. Sometimes what’s getting shot is literally your first draft. At the same time, it’s getting shot.”

Now on to Arrow, as the series has a darker tone many have compared it to Batman; however, it’s learned the Caped Crusader won’t be appearing any time soon.

We have a great relationship with DC. We sort of navigate with DC which characters in the toy box we have access to. Obviously, ‘Gotham’ has Batman covered… At the same time, DC [recognizes [Green] Arrow doesn’t have a fantastic rogues gallery — we’ve got Count Vertigo, and we’ve used him twice. They know that we need access to other characters, but it’s a give and take. The bottom line is, Batman won’t appear on “Arrow” before he appears on “Gotham,” and “they’ve got about twenty more years to go.”

Guggenheim also answered a fan question about seeing more from Harley Quinn, who was more of an Easter Egg in a Suicide Squad episode of Arrow.

Between “Gotham” and Margot Robbie playing her in the upcoming Suicide Squad film, he stated that the closest they could come is the “wink and a nod” from last season.

A superhero team spinoff is in the works, which is presently untitled, but Guggenheim offers it isn’t called “The Brave and the Bold.”

It’s also learned that DC has plans for Ted Kord, the second blue beetle, as Arrow wanted to use the character prior to Brandon Routh’s Atom.

Aked if there’s a list of things that can and can’t be used (besides Batman), Guggenheim explained that twice a year they sit down with DC, and each has a list of characters they’d like to use or be used. Katana was a character DC suggested they use. Ray Palmer was originally supposed to be Ted Kord, but DC said, “No, we have plans for that character. How about Ray Palmer?”

Margot Robbie Signs Multi-Picture Deal For Harley Quinn

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19346:]]

In a no-brainer (and possible spoiler), Margot Robbie has signed a multi-picture deal to play Harley Quinn.

Robbie will first play Harley Quinn for David Ayer in Suicide Squad, which starts filming this Spring in Toronto.

“You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away,” Robbie told AZCentral. “But with her, it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did ‘Suicide Squad One,’ ‘Two’ and ‘Three,’ I would be over the moon about it.”

Obviously with Margot Robbie signing a multi-picture deal and hoping for sequels, the character of Harley Quinn survives Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad has an August 5, 2016 release date also starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Viola Davis is playing Amanda Waller.

Margot Robbie stars in Focus with Will Smith out this Friday.

The Walking Dead’s Star-Crossed Lovers

Love Is Strange

By: Chris “The DOC” Bushley

Warning Spoilers Dead Ahead

With Cupid slinging arrows and plastic wrapped boxes of chocolates piled throughout every store, it’s safe to say that Valentine’s Day is quickly upon us. As you waded through crowds to pick out just the perfect card for your loved ones, you may have missed that the world of comics was full of romance as well. Miss Harley Quinn was paying an awful lot of money to get Bruce Wayne in the boudoir, Silk and Spidey were content to just hold each other after the events of the epic Spider-Verse conclusion and Barry Allen was dealing with some second date “quickness” issues on the CW’s The Flash! But none of the romantic scenario’s can compare to the tale of first love in the pages of The Walking Dead #137.

Throughout the past few months, Robert Kirkman has taken his cast of survivors and launched them two years into the future. Rick Grimes and company have established a world of peace, inner trade and prosperity but nothing has changed more than Carl Grimes and his onset of puberty. He has decided to become his own man and, with the blessing of his father, has taken up an apprenticeship and moved to the Hilltop. There he is reunited with his best friend, Sofia, and they spend almost every waking moment together. But alas, their budding feelings are put on hold as both of them are attacked by two boys, and as Carl runs away, they continue to pummel Sofia. The “knight in shinning eye patch” returns with a shovel and nearly kills the boys before he picks up Sofia and runs for help. Carl’s valiant save of Sofia changes the entire dynamic of the Hilltop however as the boys’ parents call for brutal retribution for the beatings and Maggie, leader of the Hilltop, places Carl in jail to appease the masses. While there, Carl befriends a fellow prisoner, Lydia, a pretty girl that is a member of the Whisperers, a roaming group of people that wear the flesh of others so they can blend in with the walkers. Lydia is there because she was part of a group that killed some of the Hilltop’s patrolmen. As things progress, a friendship blooms between these two imprisoned teens and eventually Carl gives her his father’s hat as a reminder that you can get through anything. Eventually, both Carl and Lydia are released and Carl is solely responsible for Lydia’s actions while she is free. So, like most new friendships, he threatens to kill her if she harms anyone. As the day winds down, the two teens from different lifestyles , settle upon a quiet hilltop on the outskirts of town. Hormones rise to the surface and Lydia tells Carl she likes him and Carl reciprocates. She asks him why he wears glasses with an eyepatch covering one lens, Carl cringes and asks her not to touch the glasses, that it is gross and doesn’t want her to see. Lydia finally steals the glasses and sees Carl’s damaged face and hollow eye socket. But instead of being repulsed, she gently licks the socket and exclaims, “I think it’s sexy.” Appalled and confused, Carl lets Lydia lay him down and the two star-crossed lovers take the final step in changing Carl from a boy to a man.

Nothing says,”I love you” like a good ol‘ eye socket lick! Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

COVER SHOOT: The Top 5 Comic Book Covers For January 22, 2014

COVER SHOOT

By: Chris “DOC” Bushley

This weekly feature will take a look at THE most visually compelling comic book covers on the market today. Whether they be rare variant editions or just your standard fare, these are the top 5 covers that stand out amidst the bevy of books released each week. They say, “A picture is worth a thousand words”  but these covers are worth more than that! No matter the storylines behind them, these covers compel you to at least check them out, which can be worth exponentially more than just words to the companies that publish them! Enjoy!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13309:]]

1.  Avengers #25 – Variant Edition – (Marvel): Alex Ross is known throughout the comics field as the man that started the “realistic” comic cover. Covers that depict such high detail that Ross’ characters seem as though they are true to life. Well, this cover is one of the best ones I have seen as of yet! Classic Avengers characters adorn every inch of this cover! Ross’ layout is superb and the colors give it that nostalgic feel of Kirby and Lee at their very best. Simply superb!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13310:]]

2.  Bravest Warriors #16 – Variant Edition – (KaBoom/Boom! Studios): I thought this cover was a perfect example of the Manga Pop craze that is hitting the nation. Mike Holmes gives this cover a brilliant art deco background while placing the Japanese style central character slightly askew in the forefront. This is a great amalgam of art styles and proves that you don’t need super heroes in tights to make a cool cover!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13314:]]

3.  Batman #27 (DC): Greg Capullo is no stranger to creating horrific images in comics, but this cover will certainly draw some attention away from the other books on the rack this week! Bleak in color and tone, this cover will create a vortex for the eye, singling it out amid the myriad of Technicolor laden books. Plus, the central image is so disproportionate and deranged it makes you wonder if this is a cover for Batman or Crossed! Fantastic line work and a great use of dark tones make this one a must have for Bat fans!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13312:]]

4.  Eternal Warrior #4 – Variant Edition – (Valiant): This is an amazing watercolor cover, by the ever versatile David Mack, that I need to get a copy of! Perfect use of line and color off set each other in this masterpiece. The broad water color strokes in the background give it a subtle look while the foreground captures the essence of the main character perfectly. It is a truly beautiful cover for such a brutal character but Mack pulls it off with ease!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13315:]]

5. Harley Quinn #2 (DC): This cover has everything you would expect in a Harley book! Animals, chaos, blood?, a love note to Joker and of course, a beautiful central figure that is more than off her rocker! Amanda Conner captures the pure essence of Harley with this single, multi-faceted image and fans are going to love it. Highly detailed lines and a vibrant color palette make this cover pop off of the stands and would make an exquisite poster to boot! People who say Amanda Conner can only draw “hot babes” need to check out this cover that proves her talent far exceeds their low expectations!

Review: Harley Quinn #0

It only took 16 artists and 2 over the top writers to tell the tale of Harley Quinn in a way that it deserves to be done! Bruce Timm, Jim Lee, Charlie Adlard, Amanda Conner, Art Baltazar, Sam Keith, Adam Hughes, Walter Simonson, Jeremy Roberts, Dave Johnson, Chad Hardin, Tradd Moore, Stephane Roux, Becky Cloonan, Tony S. Daniel and the incomparable Darwyn Cooke, all converge on one of the biggest artistic line-ups ever forged, to help tell the tale of one deranged woman and her penchant for mayhem!

Amanda Conner along with hubby, Jimmy Palmiotti, write a tale that lets the reader see exactly how disturbed our “clown princess” truly is. Not only do they let her break the 4th wall, they let Harley critique the artists renderings, ask for better plot lines and she even gets to attend Amanda and Jimmy’s wedding!

Yes, some fans are going to compare this issue as a Deadpool rip-off, but it is so much better than simply following suit on another book. The inclusion of so many talented artists truly sets this book apart from anything done before. Not only does each artist get to render their own zany version of Harley but Amanda and Jimmy’s critiquing of their work through Harley’s eyes is hysterical. The tale is laced with inside jokes, subtle jabs (sorry Jim Lee) and an overall lack of formality, which is exactly what you should get from a Harley tale! It is quirky and twisted, letting the blood flow on quite a few occasions, but it is also quite thought provoking regarding the way the comic medium sees as the “correct” way to tell a story. This tale isn’t a story that will get you from points A to B in a concise manner. This tale is a whirlwind of ideas that may seem haphazard but in all actuality, comes to an inevitable, logical conclusion. Without the seasoned guidance of Amanda and Jimmy at the helm, it could have come off as just a menagerie of Harley pin-ups instead of an amazing assault of the senses! It is a tale that is unique unto itself and will pleasantly surprise you with how easily you are swept up into the chaos of it all!

If you need something different, something irreverent, something blatantly hysterical — than look no further than this issue! It’s chock full of all the quirkiness and eye catching art you will ever need!
