American Horror Story: Coven Will Be Full Of Witches, Serial Killers, Voodoo & Fun

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10038:]]

The hit series on FX will return with a third series this Fall with American Horror Story: Coven, which is currently being filmed in New Orleans.

We’ve already seen a first look at series star, Jessica Lange, and now we learn about what to expect from her character in the third season as well as a few others.

Per the third series title, “Coven,” Jessica Lange will play a witch named Fiona, where at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour (via THR) the actress offered the following: “Some of us play witches, some of us play historical characters. I do play a witch. We move back and forth in time. It encompasses a lot of different stories. I’ve shot two days so far, one day entrances and exits, the other day a scene. I don’t know who the character is yet. It comes in little dribs and drabs.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10040:]]

American Horror Story: Coven will also feature real life characters that are just as horrific as the series suggests. Academy-award winning actress Kathy Bates will play the real life persona of Marie Delphine LaLaurie (pictured left), aka Madame LaLaurie, a prominent member of the Louisiana social scene who happens to be a serial killer of black slaves.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10041:]]

Likewise,  Angela Bassett will portray Marie Laveau (pictured right), a known practioner of Voodoo, stating here character is loosely based on the real life counterpart: “It’s been interesting being in New Orleans, there’s such a regard and respect for who she was. She was a woman in 1801 who lives to be 80 years old, who is a very influential person in the city. My character is based loosely on her.”

Speaking of all things that cackle in the night, American Horror Story: Coven will not only feature Jessica Lange as a witch, but witches from Salem will make their way South as they escape persecution.

We also learn this time up, Sarah Paulson will play daughter to Jessica Lange’s character, with Cordelia.

American Horror Story: Coven won’t be all dark as the title suggests, as this year looks to offer more humor than any of the previous and be a lot of fun for the audience.

“This year is a drama but there is a lot of humor, and we are embracing a kind of velocity and fun with the series,” executive producer Tim Minear said. “It’s not the same as it was the past two years, but I think it can be more fun for the audience.”

Minear also goes on to state that American Horror Story: Coven won’t be all bedknobs and broomsticks as themes presented throughout this season suggest mature topics.

“Within that idea, the idea of minority groups going after each other and doing the work of the larger culture for the larger culture [will be explored],” Minear offered. “While there is a strong feminist theme that runs throughout Coven this year, there are also themes of race, oppression and there is a very strong theme of family, specifically mothers and daughters.”

American Horror Story: Coven airs this Fall on FX also starring Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Patti LuPone and Emma Roberts with returning fan-favorite actress Jamie Brewer.

Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules Gets Ian McShane

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6262:]]There have been a batch of cast announcements for the Dwayne Johnson-starring and Bret Ratner-directed Hercules movie, most notably with the addition of Ian McShane.

THR has it that Ian McShane has been cast as Amphiarus, part priest, part prophet and part warrior who is a counselor to Hercules.

Also joining Ian McShane are Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie and Rufus Sewell.

Ian McShane is noted for various roles including Al Swearengen in the HBO Deadwood series, Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean, and most recently Leigh Emerson in American Horror Story: Asylum and King Brahmwell in Bryan Singer’s Jack The Giant Slayer.

Hercules has an August 14, 2014 release date.

American Horror Story Season 3 Gets Official Title; Reveals Witches

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6150:]]Looks like we now know the official title for American Horror Story Season 3.

The cast and crew recently attended the Paleyfest where they talked about the show with apparently the official title coming out.

The first season was about a haunted house with the second about an asylum and now the third looks to be about witches as American Horror Story Season 3 will be called “Coven,” reports ComingSoon.

The new season will see returning American Horror Story cast members Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe joined by Oscar-award-winning actress Kathy Bates.

Each season is a standalone story so if you aren’t on board one of TV’s best series, you can easily hop on with the new season.

American Horror Story airs on FX.

Kathy Bates To Play Villain In American Horror Story Season 3

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5875:]]Kathy Bates is currently in talks to be the featured villain in season 3 of American Horror Story.

TV Line reports that Oscar winner Kathy Bates will play the friend to Jessica Lange’s character, eventually turning into her enemy.

Not many details are known about the third season or even its official title, but it’s said that it will be lighter in tone than the previous and set in the modern day and will again feature different time periods.

Returning characters from the previous two seasons include the above mentioned Lange, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, in addition to Taissa Farmiga and Frances Conroy.

Kathy Bates co-starred with Frances Conroy in Six Feet Under; Bates won an Oscar for her portrayal in Misery.

American Horror Story Season 3 Will See Sarah Paulson & Evan Peters Return

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5090:]]In addition to Jessica Lange, two more members of American Horror Story will be returning for season 3.

At a press screening for next week’s American Horror Story: Asylum season finale, co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that both Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters would be coming back.

“I’m just now meeting with a lot of actors so I don’t want to say too much, but they’re actors Jessica wants to work with — so she’s sort of become a non-credited producer on season three because she loves doing the show,” Murphy said, reports THR.

We also learn a few details about season 3 as it’s said to center around Jessica Lange and be a modern-day story with her character described as a “really glamor cat sort of lady.” The season will also feature time jumps, which the second season had as well.

Murphy also doesn’t rule out actors from the first season.

“I will say that for season three, we are going to have some actors from season one who will return. I like that idea. I know that those actors are interested in that,” he said.

“What Season 3 is about is more historical in nature,” Murphy continued.” I’m also interested into getting into a horror romance. That’s certainly something that’s going to be in the water for season three.

“You’re going to see a very different tone in season three, but that’s the joy of the show. I think as a person right now I do feel lighter and wanting to embrace something a little bit more fun,” he said.

Both Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, in addition to Lange, will now have been featured in all three seasons. Season 2 saw Paulson play the victim to Zachary Quinto’s Bloody Face, with Lana Winters. Peters played Kit Walker, who aliens were seemingly interested in. In Season 1, Peters played the serial killer Tate, with Paulson having the small yet important role of a psychic who clued viewers into the plot of Season 2.
