In addition to Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest issue of Empire Magazine has a featured article focusing on Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World which includes a brand new image of Anthony Mackie in his new Captain America suit (which according to promo art gets a further update).
“It’s really his coming-out show,” director Julius Onah tells the outlet about Mackie’s Sam Wilson. “It’s about putting him through the paces.”
Onah also previously described the flick as a paranoid thriller and expands upon that notion.
“Part of the challenge for Sam as Captain America, working within the government, is the way he’s going to make decisions,” teased Onah. “The point of view he’s going to have will at times put him at odds with the President.”
The president happens to be played by Harrison Ford, aka Thaddeus Ross, where it’s heavily speculated Ford will become Red Hulk. Speaking of Hulks, Tim Blake Nelson returns as Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, where it’s thought fans will also get to see a comic book accurate version of the character, something the article also teases.
“Sam finds himself almost standing between Samuel Sterns and what he thinks the government owes him, and how he wants to go about getting that,” Onah said.
A big difference between Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers is that Wilson happens not to have the Super Soldier Serum, which the director plays up.
“The action in this movie is incredibly exciting because this is a guy who can break, this is a guy who can bleed,” said Onah. “We get to have a lot of fun pushing him to the limit.”
Captain America: Brave New World gets released on February 14, 2025 directed by Julius Onah and also stars Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly.
