Ryan Reynolds might be teasing more than just a cameo. With Deadpool & Wolverine crossing the billion-dollar mark last year, it’s starting to look like Kevin Feige is positioning Wade Wilson as the MCU’s next big draw, likely as an Avenger.
Marvel’s Box Office Problems
The tease comes at a time when the MCU has been struggling:
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps underperformed despite a strong opening.
- Disney officially labeled Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World as box office flops.
- The Marvels remains the lowest-grossing film in MCU history.
So, bringing Deadpool into the Avengers lineup for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars makes complete business sense, as fans seem more interested in the legacy Marvel characters than what Feige has been coming up with post-Endgame.

Reynolds’ Avengers Tease
Reynolds posted an image mashing up the Avengers logo with the anarchist “A,” which obviously suggests Deadpool joining The Avengers. Interestingly enough, the timing matches up exactly one year after Deadpool & Wolverine smashed through $1 billion worldwide at the box office.
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld even responded to Reynolds’ tease with a post on X with three words: “To the rescue!”

Things Have Changed: Reynolds’ Past Stance
The tease also comes not long after Reynolds said he prefers Deadpool to remain on the outside looking in, so it seems as if things have changed. We can guess it’s because of FF not performing:
“You know, I like that he’s isolated.
If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Men, we’re at the end. That’s his wish fulfillment, and you can’t give him that for a long time.”
What remains to be seen is whether Deadpool fights alongside the Avengers in a one-off for Doomsday and/or Secret Wars – not a permanent status change – or if Deadpool will be attached to the Avengers for the long haul.

Deadpool Is A No-Brainer
Deadpool is a proven crowd-puller:
- He works across timelines and studios, able to interact with Fox, Sony, and MCU characters.
- He can bring back fan-favorite mutants like Cable, Domino, and Colossus.
- He’s the ultimate wildcard for a massive multiverse event like Secret Wars.

The “Savior” Role
While Feige and Marvel haven’t confirmed anything as of yet, the writing is on the wall: Marvel’s biggest hit in years features Deadpool, and now he’s being teased alongside the Avengers logo.
Rumors offer another big casting announcement is coming in the next couple of weeks.
If the MCU wants another billion-dollar movie, Wade Wilson might be the one to deliver it. Maybe even Hugh Jackman will come along for the ride.
