The Acolyte Villain Is Non-Binary? Happy Star Wars Day!

Happy Star Wars Day, May the 4th be with you, where it is apparently learned the villain of The Acolyte is non-binary. Who knew they existed hundreds of year before Luke Skywalker in a galaxy far, far away!

For Star Wars Day, Lucasfilm released a new trailer and poster, which as described by Star Wars.com features a “terrifying figure carrying a red-bladed lightsaber.”

“They’re my favorite character”

What does showrunner Leslye Headland say about the mysterious character? Headland describes the character in the plural.

“I’ll just say that they’re my favorite character,” Headland tells StarWars.com.

Wait? Was there two of them? Nope. Could she simply be trying to hide the person’s identity by not revealing if it’s a female or male? Maybe. She could have then said “he” or “she,” right? Guess we’ll find out when the series premiere in June right in time for Pride Month. And there’s more…

“I hope audiences embrace the duality”

The poster also features assassin Mae, Master Sol, Master Indara and her Padawan Torbin, the Wookiee Master Kelnacca, Master Vernestra Rwoh, and the rest of the Jedi Order in its prime.

“I hope audiences embrace the duality that exists in every character in the show,” Headland said. “The show is an onion. Each episode peels away to reveal something else. I hope the experience of watching it is both suspenseful and satisfying.”

“No one is safe from the truth”

The video description also teases: “No one is safe from the truth. The two-episode premiere of The Acolyte, a Star Wars Original series, arrives June 4 on Disney+.”

The Phantom Menace is also now playing in theaters which comes with a 4-minute preview that has also leaked online.

What is The Acolyte about?

The description offers: An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
