Originally released in 1985, “Robotech” is a sweeping science-fiction anime epic in which the human race finds itself on the brink of annihilation and under attack by a fleet of gigantic alien warships capable of destroying the Earth in a split second. Their only hope for survival lies within the secrets of Robotechnology, which allows humans to develop powerful transforming robotic systems and interstellar spacecraft. The critically-acclaimed U.S. TV series follows three generations of heroic characters who adapt this robotic technology from a crashed alien starship to defend against numerous alien invasions.

2016 is also the 10th anniversary of the animated film Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, which was released in 2006 and features the voices of Richard Epcar (“Ghost in the Shell,” Mortal Kombat X), Eddie Frierson (FROZEN, MONEYBALL) and Mark Hamill (STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII). The premise continues where the television series left off: In the year 2044 AD, the human race has reached out to the stars through the miracle of Robotechnology, but not without bringing intergalactic war upon the Earth itself.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Announced By Sony & Marvel

Sony and Marvel have revealed the title of the Spider-Man reboot as well as the logo at CinemaCon with Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Tom Holland appeared on stage in Las Vegas.

“I’m Tom Holland and I’m your new Spider-Man,” Holland said, who promised the new Spider-Man: Homecoming film would find the Spidey and his alter ego Peter Parker searching for his identity.

“I hope it takes about three movies,” added Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman, which hints at a new trilogy.

Rothman offered Spider-Man: Homecoming will focus on Peter Parker’s struggle to balance his high school life with his vigilantism: “…saving the world and getting your algebra homework done at the same time.”

The Spider-man: Homecoming announcement was capped off with a scene from Captain America: Civil War featuring Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.

Update: A scene from the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie was shown featuring Peter Paker entering his home where Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) is with Tony Stark, who tells Peter the special grant he applied for has been accepted, which is news to the young Parker. Another scene was then shown from Civil War featuring Spidey making his cameo.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming title was previously speculated due to Sony registering the web domain, and the title is a reference to Amazing Spider-Man #252 (as well as Spidey returning to Marvel Studios) featuring member of the Avengers. Interestingly enough, the issue also featured the black-costumed Spider-Man, which the logo above seemingly features as well (which may be just a nod to the comics).

Earlier also saw word that the Vulture may be the villain, and also that Marvel Studios has full control.

Tom Holland also spoke about Spider-Man and Captain America: Civil War at the Red Carpet World Premiere for Civil War prior to being flown out for CinemaCon.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts also starring Zendaya as Michelle.

“Spider-Man” To Be Released Worldwide In IMAX 3D Theatres

Sony Pictures Entertainment, Marvel Studios and IMAX Re-Team for Event Release; IMAX Launch Coincides with Film’s New Wide Global Debut Date on July 7, 2017

Spider-Man, one of the world’s most beloved superheroes, will once again come to IMAX Theatres for a network-wide event run when the film is released in theaters on its new worldwide date on July 7, 2017, it was announced today by Josh Greenstein, president of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. As the movie, which Sony Pictures Entertainment is teaming with Marvel Studios to produce, enters wide release, it will also be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format. The highly anticipated next installment in the $4 billion franchise, which will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, will be directed by Jon Watts and produced by Feige and Amy Pascal.

Commenting on the announcement, Greenstein said, “There’s so much about Spider-Man – including the web-slinging action – that lends itself perfectly to the IMAX screen. We are confident that audiences everywhere around the world will want to see it in IMAX.”

Feige said: “Time and time again IMAX delivers super-hero sized moviegoing experiences to fans. With the anticipation for Spider-Man climbing, we are excited that IMAX has committed early to this extended release plan – it will be a great way for audiences around the world to experience such a big event film.”

Foster said, “IMAX’s long-standing relationship with Marvel and Sony first began with Spider-Man in 2002, establishing the ultimate way for fans to be transported into the world of their favorite characters like Peter Parker. By re-teaming with our friends at Sony and Marvel on the newest Spider-Man reboot, we are excited to deliver audiences what they’re asking for: a must-see cinematic adventure – in IMAX.”

The IMAX 3D release of the Spider-Man film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Details Behind Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Casting

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21144:]]

Earlier today saw Marvel and Sony announce 19-year-old English actor Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man with Jon Watts set to direct the film.

Now Variety reports on the inside decision as to how both Watts and Holland were chosen.

TOM HOLLAND

According to the report, following “underwhelming” meetings with unknown actors, the search for a new Spider-Man was widened to include actors with a “somewhat” proven track record, with Asa Butterfield, Charlie Rowe, Matthew Lintz and Tom Holland becoming the frontrunners. The list was eventually narrowed to two favorites with Lowe and Holland.

Tom Holland became the choice by Marvel and Sony as it’s said Holland was an already established name who proved he could hold his own alongside bigger-named stars such as when Holland starred in The Impossible with Ewan McGreggor and Naomi Watts.

It’s further said Tom Holland is at an age in which he is still young enough that he will be able to play a teenage Spider-Man for years to come (Marvel’s Kevin Feige stated the new Peter Parker is in high school), and that the decision for an adult teenage actor was made in part due to the studios not wanting to deal with child labor laws that restrict the lengths of film shoots.

JON WATTS

Regarding Jon Watts, the report mentions Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Vacation) were also potential contenders to direct Spider-Man as their experience on the comedic side as well as use of younger actors made them stand out choices.

It’s said, apparently Levine and Melfi became frustrated with the process, and Marvel/Sony was worried it would carry over to the Spider-Man movie production, which ended up opening the job up for Watts. In addition, Watts’ work on Cop Car is said to have earned him bonus points as the film received rave reviews at Sundance.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

While the Marvel and Sony official announcement made no mention of Tom Holland appearing as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, the report states Holland is expected to make an appearance “in order to properly introduce him into the Marvel film universe.”

Holland’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War is said to only be a small cameo as it’s mentioned Holland will only be needed for a week of filming.

Update: THR is reporting that Tom Holland had a screen test with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, and that Tony Stark/Iron Man will share scenes with Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It’s said Marvel was looking for chemistry between the actors and Holland.

Tom Holland recently finished filming “In The Heart Of The Sea” (out December 11th), which stars The Avengers’ Thor actor Chris Hemsworth (pictured above via USA Today).

“Captain America: Civil War” has a May 6, 2016 release; the new “Spider-Man” movie is due out July 28, 2017.
