A new report is stating that principal casting on Star Wars: Episode VII is complete as well as further mention that filming will take place in May.
HitFix received the news from a couple different sources, and if they are to be believed that means J.J. Abrams has cast all the leads for Star Wars: Episode VII, which of course would be the original characters and the new ones as well (rumored to be the offspring).
It’s said filming for Star Wars: Episode VII will begin in May and run until September.
Our DC Entertainment source who has a LucasFilm friend last told us to not expect any public engagements from Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher before April. According to the LucasFilm source, they are being kept under wraps because both have been put through grueling exercise and dietary regimes to get into shape for filming which begins in early summer around April/May time (as seen in Hamill’s QnA photo). Harrison Ford looks to begin his training about two months before hand as he is in a moderately good shape and will need less time.
Regarding when Hamill, Ford and Fisher will be publicly announced, it’s guessed possibly in March when official casting news begins to break.
Recent casting news for Star Wars: Episode VII includes mention that Gary Oldman and Zac Efron have been in talks as well as that Jesse Plemons is set to meet with Abrams.
“Star Wars: Episode VII” has a December 18, 2015 release.

Jett Lucas, the son of Star Wars creator George Lucas, offers some thoughts and opinions on the direction of the new Trilogy as well as some tidbits about rumors and Star Trek Vs. Star Wars. Jett also says his father is still involved with the new Star Wars and will be there to help out whenever he can.
Flicks and the City caught up with Jett Lucas and chatted Star Wars:
On what he would do with Star Wars if he could wave a magic wand:
That’s a tough question to answer because I already know what happens. I’m happy with what is going to happen.
I would like to see it following a new generation – I’m not saying that is what is happening – I am saying that is what I would like. These next movies to me are about the next generation as the prequels are about a new generation, and the originals were for that generation. I think following a new generation and a new group of heroes and villains will…I think it’s the right movie to make. That’s where I think I would want it to go.
On using the actors from the original Star Wars Trilogy:
It would be awesome. Who doesn’t want to see Han Solo cruise through on the Falcon again, but at the same time maybe he is teaching his son how to drive. I don’t know. It would be great to see them don the costumes. I would nerd out.
There has been a couple pretty fantastic ones. I think J.J. is a guy who likes to keep people guessing. He’ll tease you and taunt you every which way. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
There has been like rumors of – which I thought were pretty crazy – like some of the actors from Star Trek were gonna play in Star Wars, which I know would never happen.
On a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover:
I don’t know if I would be so thrilled. I think that would be the beginning of the Apocalypse if you were to cross Star Trek with Star Wars. I think it’s a dangerous combination. Again, it would be interesting. It’s an idea to explore if anything. It took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, maybe they found time travel. I don’t know. There is a way it could work, in a video game, but it could be interesting. Definitely a thought.
On actors auditioning:
I would. I like that they’re not going mainstream with it and they are keeping to the conduct, if you will, that my dad kind of applied to all of his movies, except for you couldn’t escape Harrison, but new faces and I one hundred percent subscribe to that.
On passing the paton:
I wasn’t because I knew he was very torn on the matter. It was like a kid who turned 18 and wanted to leave the house. Every parent has wanted to let their children go, but at the same time ‘leave, but I am going to hold on to you until you actually leave,’ so that is where I think he is with that. I think he is ready to let it go and let it grow.
We knew probably a year prior. He had started writing and kind of researching and starting his whole little process. About half way through that process is when the idea to selling to Disney came up. Once those two collided that’s when he sat down and said ‘okay I’m going to do this.’ He just kind of mentioned it offhandedly like it wasn’t a big deal.
His father, George Lucas, keeping a watchful eye:
Yeah. As any parent watching their kid go to college would. He’s constantly talking with J.J., and obviously J.J. was hand picked. He’s there to guide whenever, and he will help where he can, but at the same time he wants to let it go and become its new generation with new everything.
On picking J.J. Abrams as the director:
It’s an ace in the hole.
