Dylan O’Brien Not Cast As Spider-Man

A rumor hit the net in the past few days stating Dylan O’Brien has been cast as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

However, it’s learned it isn’t true.

BuzzFeed caught up with O’Brien who shot down the rumor, with O’Brien even confirming he hasn’t auditioned.

“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it,” Dylan O’Brien said. “I’ve only heard from, like, [rumors] online.”

O’Brien continues flat out mentioning it’s not true.

“It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation,” he said. “You can tell them that it’s not true.”

While O’Brien may not have landed the role, his name along with Logan Lerman’s has been thrown around as potential new Spidey’s.

 “It’s nothing but flattering. It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is fucking fantastic.

 “It’s really just, you know, I guess I’ll see if I even hear about it? But thank you, internet, for giving me false hope!” O’Brien laughed.

Spider-Man is expected to first appear in “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016 followed by a standalone film in 2017.

Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth & Jesse Usher Cast In Independence Day 2

Independence Day 2 has cast Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Jesse Usher in roles for the sequel that follows the original from twenty years ago.

Goldblum will return as David Levinson; Usher will be playing Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller; Hemsworth is rumored to be playing the son-in-law of Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore.

Director Roland Emmerich shared the news on Facebook.

Independence Day 2 has a June 24, 2016 release, which will not see Will Smith return, but Pullman is expected back.

Potential plot details that Emmerich previously talked about mentioned the aliens returning, but Earth better prepared as they have used the alien technology to their advantage.

Now James Bond Short Gets Yanked

Adi Shankar, the producer behind the controversial Power/Rangers fan-film, has now had has his new James Bond short yanked from YouTube due to similar copyright infringement claims.

This time it’s MGM who filed the complaint, and now the video has stopped playing after about 12 hours.

While the Power/Rangers fan-film is back online due to director Joseph Khan filing a counter-claim, Shankar has released a statement that he will not be fighting MGM.

“I have the utmost respect for MGM and the iconic character of James Bond, and although I believe my video is clearly a parody of James Bond, I will refrain from reposting it online out of respect,” Shankar said, reports Deadline.

Shankar’s James Bond short, “In Service Of Nothing,” consisted of animated storyboards featuring James Bond reliving his glory days in a flashback and used the likeness of Sean Connery.

Regarding the relevant copyright law, parodies of another creator’s works are allowed (short explanation).

Russo Bros. Sign First-Look Deal With Sony

Joe and Anthony Russo are developing The Gray Man at Sony, and now it’s learned the duo behind the likes of Captain America: Winter Soldier have signed a first-look three-year deal with Sony, which is set to kick off this April.

“Joe and Anthony Russo are terrifically exciting filmmakers with a sensibility that matches the tastes of audiences worldwide,” Sony producer Doug Belgrad said in a statement.

“Joe and Anthony Russo have demonstrated their ability to bring excitement, audacity and phenomenal commercial success to a variety of genres and endeavors,” added Michael DeLuca and Hannah Minghella, “and we are proud to add them to the family. Their original voices and fearless execution are a tremendous addition to our studio.”

“We’re thrilled to make a home at Sony Pictures, and to be partnering with the entire team,” Joe and Anthony Russo said in a joint statement. “The studio has created an environment that is not only collaborative, but truly filmmaker-friendly and we’re excited to begin developing both new and ambitious material with them.”

The Russo brothers are directing Captain America: Civil War for Disney/Marvel and The Avengers Infinity War movies.

Previous leaked Sony e-mails also revealed interest in Spider-Man by the Russo brothers. Sony has yet to announce a director on the new Spider-Man (or a new actor), but the Russo’s seem a perfect fit.

Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man Revealed

Hot Toys has revealed their high-end Hulkbuster Iron Man action figure for The Avengers 2.

We also see the Hulk is included in the pics; Hot Toys also revealed a batch of images for the Green Goliath.

The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Hulkbuster in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This colossal figure stands approximately 55 cm (21 inches) tall, featuring a Mark XLIII bust inside the Hulkbuster with LED light-up eyes and arc reactor on chest. The metallic red, gold and silver armor with weathering effect, and over 16 LED light-up areas located in the eyes, chest, repulsor palms, back, and legs.

Hugh Jackman Thinks Avengers X-Men Movie Crossover Will Happen

Hugh Jackman has been making the press rounds for his latest movie Chappie where the actor recently said he would be up to appear in the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movie.

Now Jackman offers he thinks it’s possible that one day an Avengers and X-Men crossover will happen.

“I’m surprised by what’s happened with Spider-Man joining. You’re in a very complex world where big, big sums of money are being spent for different franchises and so getting them together is difficult,” Jackman told Yahoo. “Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’d ever happen, but weirdly now I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen.”

Jackman lets it be known that he would like to be featured on screen with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Iron Man.

“I can’t think of him as anyone else,” Jackman said. “They are inseparable…. I would love to do that.”

Back over a year ago, Jackman made similar comments about a potential X-Men and Avengers crossover noting that he would love to kick Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man’s ass.

As Jackman notes Spider-Man is surprise, maybe the powers that be at Marvel and Fox will see the mutual benefit an Avengers and X-Men shared movie would bring to the table.

“Chappie” premiers March 6th.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cassette Now Available

The soundtrack to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is available again as a cassette.

A limited edition cassette was released around the holidays, but now director James Gunn lets it be known the Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack on cassette can be purchased through Disney (note: at this time there seems to be a glitch with the website where the “add to cart” button is not working).

The website has it listed for $14.98; it’s going for around $35-40 on eBay.

I’m really not trying to shill here – I make no money off album sales – but I know many of you have written me telling me you missed the first, sold out release of Awesome Mix Vol. 1 on cassette (and were even buying it on eBay for as much as a hundred bucks). Well, you can get it again here for $14.98.

Billy Dee Williams Said To Cameo In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Cosmic Book News has been shying from reporting on Star Wars rumors as of late: a) because most of them are probably BS, and b) Abrams did say some are true, and I actually want to be able to enjoy the movie when it comes out this December.

However, this latest news is too good to pass up as the Boston Herald is reporting Billy Dee Williams will be returning as Lando Calrissian for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Williams previously made comments that he was unsure if he would be appearing, but would like to do so, and if this report happens to be true, Williams and Star Wars fans have been granted their wish.

“It will be a fun cameo. Billy’s definitely up for it,” a source told the Boston Herald.

The same report also suggests Simon Pegg may make a cameo as well.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Drew Goddard Rumored To Write & Direct New Spider-Man Movie

It’s being said that Sony has hired Drew Goddard to write and direct a new Spider-Man movie.

The news comes from Latino Review, who also claim the new Spidey movies will be called “Spectacular Spider-Man.”

Goddard was attached to direct the Sinister Six movie, but the report says it’s been scrapped for a later time, with the Sinister Six to be introduced in the new Spider-Man movie.

It’s also claimed the new Spider-Man movie will see Spider-man battling Iron Man (meaning Robert Downey Jr.?) for most of the film, and then Spider-Man tries to pass an audition to join the Avengers. According to the report, there will not be an origin for Spider-Man; he is said to have existed from the beginning and will be in high school. It’s said they want a younger Spider-Man so they could have a bunch of movies, similar to Harry Potter.

While their plot information sounds like glorified fan-fiction – Avengers, Iron Man, six villains and high school kid joining the Avengers – Goodard can be considered a good choice to direct. Goodard co-wrote and directed Cabin In the Woods with Joss Whedon; is a producer and wrote episodes on the Marvel Daredevil Netflix series; wrote World War Z; wrote Cloverfield and episodes of Lost, Buffy and Angel.

Spider-Man is expected to first appear in Captain America: Winter Soldier in 2016 followed by the standalone film in 2017. 

Marvel’s Kevin Feige and former Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal are producing.

Update: The reliable Hollywood trade sites are reporting it’s not a done deal.

Hugh Jackman Wants To Be In Deadpool (Video)

Deadpool first appeared in one of Hugh Jackman’s movies, so how about Wolverine returns the favor?

Speaking with MTV in the above video, Jackman says he is open to a cameo.

Ryan is a really good friend of mine. I am really happy for him because he is a brilliant actor. He will nail that.

They are definitely enemies in the comics. They always spark off well together. I would be open to that idea.

Jackman recently said he wants to play Wolverine until he dies, maybe Deadpool will be the start of things?

“Deadpool” has a February 12, 2016 release directed by Tim Miller starring Ryan Reynolds.

Katheryn Winnick Wants To Play Captain Marvel

Marvel is set to launch a Carol Danvers Captain Marvel movie on November 2, 2018 and may actually introduce the character some time earlier.

Fans are also drawing up their list of favorite actresses to play Ms. Marvel, and by “drawing” we mean literally.

A fan created an image of Katheryn Winnick as Ms. Marvel, which went viral.

In the video above, Winnick says she was impressed by the image and also offers she would love to play the character.

“Are you kidding me? I would love to. I would love to do that,” Winnick said. “I’m such a big fan of those movies and comic books. It would be a dream come true. And I love kicking butt. Lagertha, my character [in Vikings], kicks butt in the Dark Ages. It would be interesting to just go in the future and do a fantasy one as well.”

Winnick is also aware another fan-favorite choice to play Ms. Marvel is Katee Sackhoff.

“Hey, we can just fight it out,” Winnick says, who happens to hold black-belts in Tae Kwon Do and Karate. “We can see who the best person with the — [laughs]. I just have a strong side kick.

“All kidding [aside],” Winnick continues, “I haven’t heard much about it, but I know it would be something I would be interested in. For sure. Who wouldn’t be?”
