Batman Vs. Superman Merchandise References Joker & Robin Costume

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22859:]]

Following the earlier Batman promo image, additional Batman Vs. Superman merchandise images have hit the net featuring Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

We also see what looks to be a Joker car with the packing reading: “Guthams Dark Protector.” Batman’s horns are circled (or it’s a halo), Gotham City Police Department is crossed out,  and “HERO” is written over Batman, with the Bat symbol behind the vehicle.

We see the writing on the Joker packaging is similar to the Robin costume from the Batman Vs. Supreman trailer (pictured above), which seemingly confirms Joker’s involvement one way or another.

Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Movie Review: James Bond Spectre

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22850:]]

Give up the Ghost

A Film Review of Spectre

I’ve never been the biggest fan of the Daniel Craig Bond films, and it has less to do with the man himself and more to do with the adventures his character undertakes.  For a fictional character that has been there and done everything, Daniel Craig’s Bond rarely saw the opportunity to properly peacock by engaging in some rather pedestrian plots.  That was, of course, until Skyfall (2012) where MI6 comes under direct attack and James Bond was called upon to demonstrate some semblance of actual human weakness yielding a more compelling character and a more interesting story overall.  With such a breath of fresh air, one would think that this trend would easily blend into Spectre.  It has the same director (Sam Mendes), some of the same writers (Neal Purvis and Robert Wade) and much of the same cast, so naturally, it stands to reason, no?

No.  And I’ll tell you why.  Skyfall presented audiences with some specific details extracted from the nebulous origin of this iteration of Bond, but what made that exposition pay off in a big time way was how it was inexorably linked to how the arcing conflict played out.  Bond was outmatched and nearly paid for it with his life, but loyalty to a mother figure in M forces him back in the game despite the fact he isn’t ready for it and uses the setting of his broken past as a means of survival and in a way, redemption.  Spectre is a film that once again attempts to hit the audience’s “G” spot for nostalgia by linking the current conflict back to his boyhood and recent past.  Unfortunately, no ground work was laid in this (or any other) Bond film to make the hard connections audiences need for any of those story elements to matter.  In fact, every connection between Bond and the bad guy is simply spoken from the horse’s mouth in a matter of minutes with some of the least cryptic rhetoric from a Bond villain to date.  “It was me all along,” spoken by someone we have never met, nor even alluded to is a flaccid revelation.  No tension is built, no conspiracy is ruminated, it simply gets to that moment in the movie where things need to move forward instead of aimlessly and boom; the audience knows the “what” and has a glance at the “why”.  Screen writing is not just any form of literature.  It must always be mindful of using words “to show” rather than “to tell” both audiences and producers of film.  Dialogue is an effective tool in filmmaking, but if it happens to be a crutch, it’s already too late to realize it’s actually a noose.

What ground my gears the most regarding Spectre is a cancerous trend not exclusive to the recent Bond films, but to all action/adventure films coming out of Hollywood these days: vanilla villains.  They talk big games, but don’t do much.  They claim tortured pasts without showing its effects.  Their bark is much worse than their bite.  They are the least interesting antagonists in the world and they are everywhere.  (I’m looking at you too Marvel films!)  Christoph Waltz is an amazing, Academy Award winning actor and his ability to create compelling characters for the screen was recklessly mishandled by Sam Mendes and the entire production staff of Spectre.  Waltz was given practically zero material to work with: no real back story, no clear cut motive and virtually no screen time.  In many ways, his character doesn’t even need to be in this film for it to turn out in exactly the same way.  Why even cast an extra, let alone Waltz, to play a role of such inconsequence?

Action Style

Thank goodness they hired a stunt runner for Daniel Craig.  Excellent hand to hand, close quarters combat.  Decent car chases with an interesting dash of gunplay.  General stunt work in this film was top notch.

6/6

Action Frame

Talk about an animated frame.  Wow!  The cinematography of Hoyte Van Hoytema is to be celebrated in this film.  Both action and dramatic sequences are enhanced by his efforts at creating the picturesque, everywhere.

5/5

Lead Performance

Daniel Craig is still the Blue Steel of James Bonds, but also happens to present a Bond you can root for.  Christoph Waltz on the other hand … see above.

3/6

Supporting Performance

Ray Fiennes as M is solid and I wish Ben Wishaw and Naomie Harris had more to do as Q and Moneypenny respectively.  Lea Seydoux may be a babe, but her character was far too dull.  What the heck was Drax the Destroyer doing in this film?

3/5

Music

Sam Smith’s The Writing’s on the Wall is everything you need in a Bond theme: seductive, emotive, and mysterious.  It is echoed effectively in the dramatic soundtrack throughout.

6/6

Sound F/X

Par for the course, although I’ll admit to having a weakness for hearing the engines of super-cars chasing each other on the streets.

3/5

                                                                                                           “Moving” = 26/33

Digital F/X

One mark of successful CG is the audience not knowing it was there at all, but I am uncertain if this was due to exceptional CG, or practical effects being so much better than the digital ones in this film.  That said, there did seem to be some plasticity to some explosions and Drax gets dealt with by some goofy animation.

4/6

Special F/X

Chris Corbould as the special effect supervisor proves that practical effects can still have a wicked punch!  Great use of vehicle stunts, explosions, ballistics and crashes.

5/5

Costumes

So many suits in this film.  I’m not exactly pining for ridiculous “onesies” of Moonraker, but come on; can we get a little more creative here?

4/6

Hair & Makeup

Very acceptable battle damage on bodies and faces combined with gorgeous styling of female follicles.

4/5

Exteriors

Every Bond film is a potential exotic travelogue.  I wish we could have gotten more exotic than Mexico City, though.

5/6

Interiors

I understand that MI6 has been in funding hell for the past few Bond films, but we really need to move these guys out of the sewers once and for all and dress it up with some more tech please.

3/5

                                                                                                         “Picture” = 25/33

Hook

Even a 007 movie needs something more than “James Bond doing his thing” as the lead in to what exactly is happening, which we don’t exactly know for sure other than vague and undeveloped memories from previous Daniel Craig Bond films regarding the organization of Spectre itself.  The hook is unclear and happened upon by chance.

1/4

Conflict

So the Legion of Doom DOES exist?!  How do you fight them?  Obviously, you run a couple of obstacle courses, shoot a few dudes and victory is assured.  Oh wait, there was supposed to be a more meaningful, personal conflict at work?  Sorry, no one got that memo.

 1/4

Resolution

Can something resolve if it was never setup in the first place?  Neither surprising nor satisfying, unless the article that reveals who gets tapped as the next James Bond counts as a dénouement for Spectre.

 1/4

Dialogue

The moment to moment talking does an excellent job at keeping the audience in the moment, but these are all short term hits with no long term grand slam.

 4/6

Exposition

What exposition?  You mean this photograph and me telling you stuff about it you already knew, but no one else does?

 1/5

Character Uniqueness

Blue Steel is certainly a unique looking Bond, but I was getting used to him not being played like Mr. Roboto in Skyfall.  The main villain in this film is as common as they come.

 3/6

Character Relatability

Super Spies and secret government cabals are beyond the grasp of “normies”.  Too bad the whole sibling rivalry thing wasn’t developed in this film at all because lots of people could connect to that concept.

 2/5

                                                                                                               “Story” = 14/34

Overall MPS Rating:  65/100

Spectre is a very average action film that looks better than the story settles on one’s mind.  Perhaps the greatness of Skyfall is a difficult concept to surpass, but film franchises will always make the attempt to string things along, beyond their natural ends because they know those dollar bills will be there.  I don’t expect Spectre to even knock on the door of Skyfall’s financial success long term.  Still, I didn’t hate this film as much as some of my comments make it appear to be, but I certainly didn’t love it and I especially expected it to take Bond into even murkier waters leading to a more domesticated 007 who finally got out of the spy business (something Daniel Craig Bond was ready to do clean and clear at the end of Casino Royale).  What if he had already been out for a few years, started a family, then Spectre takes them out to settle a vendetta, forcing a psychotic James Bond to break every rule in the book to quench an insatiable vengeance and proceeds to set the world on fire (literally) to achieve some twisted form of justice before committing to some ritualistic suicide that only makes up for about 10% of all the bad he committed?  Hold everything!  That’s way too much plot for a James Bond film.  We’ll just have him shoot some people to stop a regurgitated attempt at world domination in the hopes of preserving civilization as we know it.  Yawn.

Epic Failure Part 2: Dancing Part Of Guardians of the Galaxy Sequel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22847:]]James Gunn did the equivalent of George Lucas’ Star Wars: The Phantom Menace with Guardians of the Galaxy

James Gunn, say it ain’t so!

Gunn came on board GOTG and rewrote the Nicole Perlman adaptation of the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning Guardians of the Galaxy 2008 comic book, which was initially a more serious take. Gunn cut Richard Rider Nova out of the script – for whatever reason – and put his own goofy “Lost In Space” spin on the movie (sad, but true). Sure, the movie was a success, and I will admit enjoyable to a point, but from a Marvel Cosmic fan’s perspective, and one who started an entire site around the comics (before Marvel even gave a f’), Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy came off as a more of a joke compared to the DnA comic book Guardians of the Galaxy source material.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22848:]]I would take Richard Rider Nova over “Star-Lord” as a more relatable character ANY DAY

Now before all the negative Facebook comments hit, to put it in our perspective, can you EVER – and I mean EVER – imagine a dancing Harrison Ford Han Solo in ANY of the Star Wars movies (or how about a dancing Ripley in Aliens?!)?

Take a moment and think about it.

A dancing f’n Han Solo?!

Or even how about Darth Vader at the end of any of the Star Wars movies acting like Lee Pace’s Ronan (was I the only one thinking, “Why didn’t Ronan just blast Star-Lord at the end of the movie instead of looking like the biggest f’n idiot there ever was while watching him do the stupid dance?”).

Or how about Kylo Ren dancing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?! Are you looking forward to that?!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22849:]]More Ewok-ness coming with GoTG 2 – excited?!

Basically, from a fan of Marvel Cosmic, what Gunn did is Jar Jar Binks Guardians of the Galaxy. Just about everything about the movie came off as generic, cheap, eye-rolling and Disney-fied (I did like Rocket, Groot and Nebula to a certain extent). Now, Marvel Comics is finally (five years later?) releasing the collected version of DnA’s GOTG comics, and I’ll hope you will all buy it to see what the source material is really like, but Marvel really f’d over DnA and their creative team when the movie came out, replacing it with the d-bag Bendis version. What bothers me more is that Kevin Feige and Gunn have both pointed to the DnA version as an inspiration for the movie, but the movie is more like the crappy Bendis-Loeb comic than the more serious (with humor that makes sense) version that Abnett created.

And the bad news is that it seems we are getting more of the Bendis/Gunn version.

Vin Diesel, who is reprising as Groot, revealed in a Q&A on Facebook, that he received the script for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which – get this – has dancing as a big part of the script.

Diesel revealed he received the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 script this weekend with Awesome Mix Vol. 2 (Vol. 1 was asinine, btw), and played a song by Megan Trainor after doing so — as Trainor did music for Fast and Furious 7. Diesel then said it’s ironic because the GOTG 2 script has dancing, too (please don’t tell me Trainor is on Awesome Mix Vol. 2 – can it get any worse, guys?).

If you haven’t noticed, Guardians of the Galaxy started and ended with Star-Lord dancing!

Yep, is that the tone of GOTG 2 we have to look forward to? More goofball dancing idiot-ness?

Who was looking forward to Adam Warlock? Well, now do we get to see Warlock and Magus do the Electric Boogalo?!

Ughh! Personally, that was the WORST part of the movie – watching Star-Lord dance!

Below you can check out Vin Diesel talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 for yourself (anybody else thankful he only has three words to say?)

Captain America: Civil War Trailer Still Being Worked On: Spider-Man Is “Awesome”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22846:]]

It sounds as if the upcoming Captain America: Civil War trailer said to be released with the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be new and feature previously unseen footage.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently took part in a Q&A in Cleveland, NY. A fan managed to ask the brothers about the Captain America: Civil War trailer as well as the look of Spider-Man.

Regarding the look of Spider-Man, Joe Russo said, “He’s awesome.”

Anthony Russo also said the Captain America: Civil War trailer is coming along and should be out soon enough.

“The trailer is almost complete,” Anthony Russo said. “With just a few special effects left to edit in, it should be out soon. You’re really going to enjoy it.”

The Reddit user also managed to grab a couple of selfies of the Russo brothers:

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer Screened In Cleveland

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22844:]]

Following the recent description for the Captain America: Civil War trailer, it’s now become known the screening took place in Cleveland.

However, what is unclear is if the Cleveland Captain America: Civil War trailer is the same as the one said to be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the trailer shown in Cleveland seems to be close to the D23 Expo trailer from this past August.

Hopefully, with all the descriptions and footage that have already hit the net from the Captain America: Civil War trailer that already screened, the Civil War trailer attached to Star Wars will be new.

Update: Anthony and Joe Russo offered an update on Spider-Man and the Captain America: Civil War trailer.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Possible Captain America: Civil War Trailer Description Leaks Online

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22834:]]

We get a potential description for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War trailer that is said to be attached to the December 18th premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

A user on Reddit is claiming to have attended a private Q&A with the Russo Bros. that ended with a screening of the Captain America: Civil War trailer. Obviously, this could be a bunch of BS, but at least it’s entertaining while we have to wait.

You can find the Captain America: Civil War trailer description below.

No source. It was a live event. Lots of security. All phones were collected before hand.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22835:]]

This is a description of the FULL trailer that will be attached to Star Wars. If you want to stay surprised, don’t read it. OBVIOUS SPOILER WARNING!

Okay

We get our first look at Falcon using red wing, a drone, tracking an armored vehicle. It uses X-ray vision to look at the vehicle suspension and internals. Pretty badass. Once determining thy vehicle is the one their after, Flacon dives off a building and goes soaring towards it. Black Window runs through the streets and an alley to cut off the vehicle if Flacon can’t make it. Then we get our first look at Crossbones in his suit and in action in a massive action-packed set piece that looks great. Crossbones throws a magnetic bomb that attaches to Caps shield. Cap loses the shield and is forced into a hand to hand brawl. “Remember me? You dropped a building on my face!” Crossbones mentions he might know where Bucky is. Falcon is also caught up in the brawl. He is shot at, but deflects the bullets with his wings. They seem to be much stronger than in Winter Soldier, possibly vibranium.

A brief glimpse of Vision sitting in an arm chair wearing a black suit and tie. Brief glimpse of Black Panther fighting Cap. He has retractable vibranium claws in his suit, which looks fantastic on screen! Brief glimpse at Tony Stark, looking bruised and scraped, suiting up in Iron Man armor that seems to be a bit bulkier. Brief glimpse of Martin Freeman from behind with some voice over. Then a shot of Steve Rodgers holding onto a helicopter with one hand and a landing pad with the other, attempting to prevent the helicopter from taking off with all of his might (and massive biceps).

We see more of the Ant-Man post credits scene, Cap asks Bucky “Do you know who I am?” Bucky smirks and recalls a story from their childhood, revealing that he’s regained his memory and ready to fight with Cap. General Ross speaks to a group of officials, either congress or some other world security council. He seems to look pretty worn out, he’s lost a LOT of weight! Sam Wilson, Steve Rodgers and Wanda Maximoff are standing outside a van. Wilson says something about “Our new recruit.” The van door slides open to reveal Scott Lang sprawled across the back seat. He fan boys over meeting Cap, “You know so many super powered people, thinks for thanking of me… Thanks for thinking of me… I’m still shaking your hand.” He lets go and after a moment pats Cap’s bulky chest and says “wow.” Finally, we see two lines form, team Cap and Team Ironman, ready to charge at each other. Hawkeye pins Black Widow to the ground “Are we still friends?” “Depends on how hard you hit me.” Cut to title: CIVIL WAR!

Does Spider-Man appear in the Captain America: Civil War Trailer?:

Not a single reference, nod, glance, or wink.

Spider-Man speculation:

Well no, actually, Peter Parker has an actual role in the film. Not just a post credits cameo. I believe he’s gonna be on team ironman, then switch to team cap. Rumors suggest Tony builds him the Iron Spider suit, seen in the Civil War comic. Tom Holland was also shooting scenes for at least two weeks. So unless the post credits scene is 15 min, that wouldn’t make any sense. So to say I, as many other fans, expected to see a Spider-Man reference in the trailer is laughable is just you being misinformed.

Potential William Hurt/Red Hulk:

Unless there’s some subplot about him being sick and deciding to somehow treat himself with Gamma cells, that’s much more likely. Seriously, he looked sickly. It took a bit to even realize it was him! Totally forgot he was in the film
