Suicide Squad Is Rated PG-13 & Joker Details (Video)

Batman producer Charles Roven confirms that Suicide Squad will have a PG-13 rating as well as offers details about Jared Leto’s Joker and more.

You can watch Roven talk about Suicide Squad in the above video, with some of the text found below (via Collider).

On Jared Leto’s Joker:

“Look, you know, it was different, it was fun. The group first wasn’t sure because the AD’s had to call him ‘Mr. J’ to get him to come to the set [laughs]. And he did in many ways isolate himself from the rest of the group, but that’s really what his character was, the purpose of his character in many ways, other than when he was with Harley or trying to get Harley. It was very entertaining, it was fuel for a lot of good sport and a lot of laughs, and his isolation bonded the squad, and we wanted the squad bonded.”

David Ayer pitched the idea to do Suicide Squad:

“He had a close relationship with [Warner Bros. executive] Greg Silverman and Greg said, ‘He’s got an idea on Suicide Squad, he wants to come in and pitch it.’ Having a guy like that who’s been able to—all of his films have had a certain level of groundedness to them, really feeling very richly real. And so having that sensibility, which is along the lines of what we were talking about earlier how we like to have things grounded in science or whatever, I was very anxious to hear what his take was gonna be on Suicide Squad and I was very happily surprised, but it was right exactly in the pocket that we were looking for. Honestly that movie was essentially greenlit in the pitch meeting.”

On David Ayer being the writer and director for Suicide Squad:

Surprisingly, one of the things that is a natural benefit of having a writer-director is that when you meet with him, if he’s trying to meet with an actor and explain to them what the role’s gonna be, there’s a lot of confidence that the actor has that the man who’s telling him what’s it’s gonna be is gonna deliver because he’s both the writer and the director. So David was very fresh off the heels of a movie that he could show called Fury, which was a fabulous picture, and he was able to talk about these really—as he says ‘it can be fun to be bad’ and ‘just because they’re bad doesn’t mean they’re evil’, and so he was able to convince all of the actors that we went out to that he was gonna be able to make these characters so compelling that they would wanna be played more than once by these actors.”

On the atmosphere on set:

“I have to say, it was one of the most fun sets ever. I’ve been doing this for a while, and the camaraderie that was built on that set—everybody couldn’t wait for the next day to come back to work.”

Suicide Squad having a PG-13 Rating:

The intention of the film is definitely to be PG-13… We really want to make these films tonally consistent so that, as I said because this is a shared universe, at least our current thinking—and again, we’re not dealing in absolutes because while this is business it’s also a creative endeavor, so you want to leave yourself open to changing your mind, doing something different, being inspired, that’s the whole process of filmmaking is you have to allow for inspiration as well as having a road map for what you’re gonna do. So our plan right now is to make all these films PG-13. In some cases, you know, right there on the edge of PG-13, but still PG-13.”

What will surprise audiences the most?

“There’s a lot of characters in Suicide Squad, and I think you’ll be engaged with them. They all have fabulously different arcs, they’re all very individualistic, and I think that also they’re very, very human in their own dysfunctional ways. And I think that the personal individuals stories and how they relate to each other will be surprising.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22920:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22921:]]

Suicide Squad” has an August 5, 2016 release date directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Mike O’Hearn Wants The He-Man Role

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22914:]]

A couple of days ago saw bodybuilder and actor Mike O’Hearn mention he is getting ready for the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, which led to speculation the former American Gladiator is up for the role of He-Man.

Word of O’Hearn possibly playing He-Man has since gone viral with fans responding with enthusiasm on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Now we get more of an update as O’Hearn has taken to his social networks to thank the fans for their support as well as stating he doesn’t have the He-Man role just yet.

I want to thank all the supporters for sending good vibes in hopes I get the role of He-Man. I am working hard everyday so when the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be ready. It’s pretty exciting that Hollywood is talking or has my name on their lips when it comes to this role. The support from the fans is incredibly helpful and really adds confidence to my belief that I’m the right man for it. I’ve been close to large rolls before like Superman and the follow up to The Scorpion King. Hollywood has talked about me in the past for other superhero roles such as Captain America long before Chris Evans booked it. (He did a great job as Captain America). More than just having the look of he-man, I need to stay in class and keep working with the theatrics. Superstar actor and friend Jonathan Schaech is also going to work with me on making sure that my acting is on point. All I can do is keep working to make sure that I am prepared to book this role and do an amazing job! Thank you again for all of your support. To be clear, I do not have the role yet. The Internet is flattering but you can’t believe everything you see on there. Again thank you for all of your support!

This morning I woke up to find out I’m trending on social media. That’s pretty awesome and shows me more than ever that the world wants me to play He-Man just as much as I want the Role. So for all of the love everyone is sending my way, I want to show you my appreciation. For the next 3 days anything you order from @freakoffmyleash will have a 10% discount. Go to www.foml.com to place your order. Let’s go Titan mode. I mean He-Man Mode!

Michael Keaton Says Batman Could Beat Up The Hulk & Everybody Else

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22884:]]

Former Batman actor Michael Keaton is currently starring in Spotlight along with the Hulk, Mark Ruffalo.

ABC (via Geek Tyrant) caught up with Keaton to get his take on who would win between the two.

Keaton let it be known that not only could Batman beat the Hulk and everybody else, but that he could, too.

“Everyone needs to stop asking the question of who could beat up who. Batman kicks everybody’s a**. And if they won’t, I will, Bruce Wayne will.”

This isn’t the first time that Keaton has come out and proclaimed himself as Batman. Last December saw Keaton answer a question regarding if he is jealous that Ben Affleck is playing Batman by answering, “No. Do you know why? Because I’m Batman. I’m very secure in that.”

Michael Keaton also appeared on Saturday Night Live this year which saw him reprise his Batman voice from the 1989 movie by stating, “I’m Batman.” The SNL Cast also tried to convince Keaton to don the cape and cowl once again.

Batman and the Hulk have fought in the comics, with the Dark Knight getting the upper hand over the Green Goliath.

Disney and Star Wars Launch Hour of Code

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22880:]]

Today, Code.org unveiled a Star Wars-themed computer science tutorial featuring Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 as well as Rey and BB-8 from the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The online lesson kicks off the third-annual global Hour of Code campaign, in honor of Computer Science Education Week, December 7-13, 2015.

Thanks to Disney and Star Wars, students will learn to write code that allows them to create fun challenges and games using Star Wars characters. Participants will join forces with Rey to guide BB-8 through a space mission, then team up with Princess Leia to build their own game featuring R2-D2 or C-3PO. Students will also be able to play their completed games on smartphones and share them with friends and family through a unique link.

“For generations, Star Wars has sparked kids’ curiosity and imagination, and we hope the appeal of characters like Princess Leia and Rey will help fuel greater participation in science and math, especially among girls, around the world,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President, Lucasfilm, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. “Computer science has helped shape our legacy and changed the way movies are made, which is why programs like the Hour of Code are so important to us.”

This is the second year Disney has worked with Code.org on a coding tutorial featuring Disney characters. Last year’s tutorial — which President Obama participated in at the White House for the Hour of Code last December — has been completed more than 13 million times and tapped Anna and Elsa from Walt Disney Animation Studio’s blockbuster film “Frozen.” More than 100 million students across 180 countries have tried an Hour of Code tutorial, including one in three students in US schools, according to Code.org estimates.

Code.org’s new “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” lesson for the Hour of Code 2015 aims to nurture creativity and teach logic and problem solving through basic computer programming. There are two versions of the introductory tutorial: one introduces users to the coding language JavaScript for the first time in a Code.org lesson, and lets them create a game in their Internet browser using Code.org’s unique blocks-to-text programming environment. For beginner and younger students, a tablet-friendly drag-and-drop version will be available in the next few weeks. The tutorial will also be translated into more than 40 languages. The tutorial is supported by Star Wars: Force for Change, a philanthropic initiative that harnesses the strength of Star Wars and its global fandom to empower people to come together to make a positive impact on the world around them.

In addition to the lesson, role models and technologists, including Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Rachel Rose, a Senior R&D engineer working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Charita Carter, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, have provided short video lectures to help students through the one-hour activity.

“Millions of us have been transported to a galaxy far, far away thanks to the creativity of the team behind Star Wars. Every one of us, especially young boys and girls, should also have the chance to learn how to power our own creativity with computer science,” said Hadi Partovi, co-founder and CEO of Code.org. “Code.org is honored to have the support of Disney and Star Wars on the Hour of Code, making it possible for students everywhere to experience firsthand how this foundational field opens new doors and can be a lot of fun, too.”

“Disney is driven by storytelling and technology—and we know that kids introduced to computer science today will become the innovators and storytellers of tomorrow,” said Jimmy Pitaro, co-Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “We are honored to be working with Code.org again this year to introduce millions of students to coding, which is becoming one of the most important languages of their generation.”

In addition to partnering with Code.org to make the “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” tutorial available for free in more than 180 countries, The Walt Disney Company is donating $100,000 to support Code.org’s efforts to bring computer science education to after-school programs throughout the United States. One lucky classroom will win the grand prize – a trip to San Francisco, Calif. for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes “Making of Star Wars” experience with the visual effects team who worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The grand prize is courtesy of ILMxLAB, a new laboratory for immersive entertainment, combining the talents of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. Sphero, a company that participated in the 2014 Disney Accelerator, will also be gifting programmable BB-8 TM droids to 100 participating classrooms. HP Inc has also donated Star Wars TM Special Edition Notebook devices to 10 participating teachers. And during Computer Science Education Week in December, Disney will host an Hour of Code event for local students at their Los Angeles office, and Disney VoluntEARS will support Hour of Code events around the world.

The “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” tutorial is the newest addition to Code.org’s online learning platform, Code Studio, which offers a suite of self-guided computer science activities and courses for students to learn the fundamentals of computer science, starting as early as kindergarten.

At a time when the majority of K-12 schools don’t offer computer science, more than 5 million students have enrolled on Code Studio since its 2014 launch, including 10 percent of all K-8 students in the United States. Additionally, 43 percent of Code Studio students are girls, and 37 percent are black or Hispanic.

This reach is substantial, considering  women hold only 23% of computing jobs, just  18% of bachelor’s degrees in computer science are awarded to women, and only  22% of high school AP Computer Science exam takers are girls. Furthermore, only  18% of bachelor’s degrees in computer science are awarded to blacks and Latinos and, at the high school level,  9% of AP Computer Science exam takers are Hispanic, and just 4% are black.

Beyond the Hour of Code, Code.org has partnered with Disney on “Infinity Play Lab,” an environment where students code stories or games starring Disney Infinity versions of Anna and Elsa from “Frozen,” Hiro and Baymax from “Big Hero 6” and Rapunzel of “Tangled.” Code.org has also released Hour of Code tutorials with artwork from Rovio’s Angry Birds, PopCap Games’ Plants vs. Zombies and the acorn-crazed squirrel Scrat from the Twentieth Century Fox animated series “Ice Age.”

Try a preview of the “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” tutorial now on Code Studio (http://Code.org/starwars). The experience will also be available on Disney.com soon.

Mariah Carey Not Playing Commissioner Gordon In LEGO Batman Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22879:]]

It’s being said that Mariah Carey will be playing Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming LEGO Batman movie.

The info comes from Deadline who is usually right on the money; however, a rival site, THR, is stating Mariah Carey is actually up to voice the Mayor of Gotham City, which seems to make more sense as Gordon is normally Jim Gordon.

LEGO Batman has cast: Alfred (Ralph Fiennes), Batgirl (Rosario Dawson), Robin (Michael Cera) and Joker (Zach Galifianakis), with Will Arnett reprising as the voice of Batman from the 2014 LEGO Movie.

LEGO Batman has a February 10, 2017 release directed by Chris McKay written by Seth Grahame-Smith.

Jem and the Holograms Pulled From Theaters

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22875:]]

With only having been in theaters for two weeks, Universal Studios has pulled Jem and the Holograms from U.S theaters.

As noted by Flickering Myth, Jem and The Holograms opened to disastrous reviews and box office receipts as the film only brought in $1.3 million from 2,400 screens.

The second week was even worse as Jem and The Holograms dropped 71% to just $387,925.

Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Jem and The Holograms sits at a 20% positive critic rating, with 50% of audiences liking it (still well ahead of Fantastic Four).

The movie has yet to open in the UK and some international territories.

Obviously, this has to be looked at as a complete failure by Universal who heavily promoted the movie and even announced a new Jem merchandise line.

“Jem and the Holograms” is directed by Jon M. Chu starring Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis.

Synopsis:

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

Justice League Mortal Script Now Online

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22874:]]

Back in 2008-9, Warner Bros. was developing a Justice League movie with George Miller directing which was to be titled “Justice League Mortal.”

The film was going to be shot in Australia, but due to the writers’ strike at the time as well as film-budget issues and the fact that Christopher Nolan didn’t want two different Batmans on screen (Batman Begins was released in 2005) saw the “Justice League Mortal” movie get the axe.

The movie got so far as having a cast, which consisted of: Armie Hammer (Batman), DJ Cotrona (Superman), Megan Gale (Wonder Woman), Adam Brody (The Flash), Common (Green Lantern), Santiago Cabrera (Aquaman), Teresa Palmer (Talia Al Ghul), Zoe Kasan (Iris Allen), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Martian Manhunter) and Jay Baruchel (Maxwell Lord).

Concept art was developed and the actors even tried on costumes (Armie Hammer talks about his Batman suit here), but alas, “Justice League Mortal” was never meant to be.

The good news is that you can read the “Justice League Mortal” script for yourself as it’s presently on scribd.

A documentary on the movie is also in the works.

New Batman Vs. Superman Trailer Coming This Year Says Charles Roven (Video)

We previously heard from Batman producer Charles Roven talking about the direction of the Justice League characters, and now similar to Zack Snyder’s recent statements, Roven confirms new Batman Vs. Superman footage later this year.

Roven also talks about the superhero genre, Batman Vs. Superman being true to its title, visual effects, the length of the movie, Wonder Woman and more.

Here is some of the text (via Collider):

Super hero genre:

I think like any genre, the movies have to be good and you have to keep the audience engaged. One of the things that we’re doing when we’re bringing together the DC Justice League Universe is we’re creating not only stories that work for the individual film but they have some resonance to the other films that we’re doing. And I’m hoping that what’s also gonna keep the interest very keen is we’re telling hopefully compelling stories. I mean, one of the great things about dealing with superheroes in general, at least from our standpoint, is they’re both inspirational and aspirational characters, so you’re hoping that the audience is gonna want to be like some of them but you’re also hoping that the audience can relate to some of them, that if we make their stories compelling and relatable, interesting and emotional, that you’re going to really want to spend more time with them. So you talk about Man of Steel and I felt that Clark’s relationship with both of his fathers was pretty emotional and you can relate, certainly people who lost a loved one can relate, and we all have at some point in our lives lost loved ones. So I think even with Batman v Superman we wanna have characters that touch us, and if we can continue to make films like that, the I think they’re sort of ‘genre proof’”.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22867:]]

Batman vs. Superman title:

You will definitely understand when you see the movie why we call it Batman v Superman… I’m excited to have people see it. I think it’s really a wonderful film. I think Zack [Snyder]’s done an amazing job, all of the actors who are in it, we were so lucky. Just think about the cast that we have, from Ben [Affleck] to Henry Cavill, to Amy [Adams] to Jesse [Eisenberg] to Jeremy [Irons] to Larry [Lawrence] Fishburne. Just amazing, and they all really bring it. Really great. Very happy.”

More Batman vs. Superman footage coming soon:

Honestly, you’re going be seeing something very soon… I don’t know how you define soon but certainly before the end of the year, how about that?”

Length of the movie:

I don’t know if you’ll ever get the 4-hour version, but there may be something that’s coming along that might be slightly less long than that.”

Batman Vs. Superman production and Zack Snyder:

I love the development process, I’m really happy with the pre-production process. I’m not crazy about the production process, because it’s really tense for a producer, particularly when you have a great filmmaker working on it. But the post-production process is so great because you’re shaping something, right? You shot it, and you shoot –if you’re smart- more than you can use because you want the ability to shape it. So part of the process of looking at all these cuts is you start with the longest version of the movie that you could possibly have and then hopefully it’s gonna be painful to bring it down to some sort of size, and you’re learning wonderful things about your characters that you shot. Because even though you have a script which is your blueprint, the actors bring so much and when you have a visual filmmaker like Zack, just what he’s shooting brings so much. So the process is a very rewarding one to go through, seeing your first cut to what is very close to the last cut.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22868:]]

On the writers, Chris Terrio and David Goyer:

First of all, Chris Terrio is a fantastic writer, you said it earlier, he won the Oscar for Argo. David Goyer is a fantastic writer, and I think that we were very fortunate that even though it wasn’t a collaboration it was a very good blending of the two guys’ talents.”

More on the title:

I don’t think that’s an issue for this film at all. I really don’t… I think that the film is called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so there’s a reason it’s called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and not Dawn of Justice: Batman v Superman. So you’re gonna invest mostly in Batman v Superman and I think that you’ll find other characters in there that you hopefully will want to see more of.”

Difference between the new DC movies and the Christopher Nolan Batman films:

Let’s start with what we’re doing with Man of Steel, because Chris’ Dark Knight trilogy was actually different in the sense that the Dark Knight trilogy had no superheroes in it, none whatsoever. It had a man who made himself both mentally and physically into the best a man could be, and the villains in that were also humans who whether they were aberrated or not were also heightened in terms of their ability to accomplish their goals through their own methods. Very real, very grounded, but of this Earth.

On Man of Steel we also tried to make things feel as real as possible, but we took you to Krypton. We started on Krypton, we gave you Krypton technology and Krypton science and we tried to do it in a way that if there was this planet, what was their culture, what was their language, what were they thinking about, what was their science, what was their technology. And we did try to make that real but we were also taking you into an alien world, and I think we’ve tried to follow that, so make it feel grounded but also otherworldly. So whatever we do with any of these characters we’re gonna want them to be grounded, we’re gonna want the science to feel real whether it’s of this world or not of this world.”

“We tried [to make it all feel real] when we brought it here, when Zod came here, we wanted to make sure that we followed that. We actually talked about what would that technology translate to here. And I think you’ll see in Batman v Superman we stayed true to that, we were attempting to stay true to that, how are things affecting Superman here, Batman is still human, he’s not Meta, he’s just a human, Wonder Woman is Meta, if you will, although some might think that she’s a God.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22870:]]

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

James Gunn Says Bradley Cooper Didn’t Spoil Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22862:]]

Earler saw Bradley Cooper seemingly spoil Guardians of the Galaxy 2 by revealing the villain to be Thanos as well as that Thanos is the father of Star-Lord.

However, Cooper seems to have gotten his facts mixed up as James Gunn has taken to Twitter to clear things up.

“In response to all the stories coming out, Bradley Cooper didn’t reveal anything,” Gunn tweeted. “He just got the script and hasn’t read it yet. I promise.”

Cooper seems to have mixed up Star-Lord and Ronan; however, he did seem pretty sure Thanos was the villain.

Update: Gunn also said that Cooper doesn’t know who the villain is.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release.

So I woke up this morning to a thousand posts about Bradley Cooper having revealed that the primary villain in GotG Vol….

Bradley Cooper Spoils Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Villain & Star-Lord’s Father? (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22861:]]

Update: James Gunn says Cooper didn’t reveal anything.

Whoops?! Did Bradley Cooper just spoil the big villain of Guardians of the Galaxy as well as the identity of Star-Lord’s father?

Check out the video below where Cooper seems to say (or at least think) that Thanos will be the big bad of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but that’s not all as Cooper also seems to say (or at least think again) that Thanos is also the father of Star-Lord.

It is possible that Cooper may have mixed up Star-Lord and Ronan, as Cooper references the throne scene from the movie, which saw Thanos talking with Ronan — not Star-Lord.

Cooper may actually have thought Thanos was Ronan’s father, but regardless, at least it does seem he did reveal Thanos as the villain of the sequel.

Interestingly enough, regarding Thanos potentially being the father of Star-Lord, Gunn did cut the love scenes* out of the first movie between Star-Lord and Gamora (even though they were in the trailers). I do recall Gunn stating he didn’t want Guardians to be too similar to Star Wars, and if Thanos is indeed Star-Lord’s father, we now know the reason Gunn cut the Star-Lord/Gamora relationship from the movie is because it’s similar to the Luke/Leia and Darth Vader relationship (Star-Lord and Gamora would be brother and sister/Luke and Leia kissed).

*Correct me if I’m wrong, but if I am recalling correctly, Star-Lord and Gamora kissed in a trailer as well as checked each other out, which didn’t make it into the final cut of the movie (or even the Blu-Ray deleted scenes).

Here is some of the text from the interview with Cooper:

Cooper: Josh Brolin’s the villain, though. Or he is the main villain, no? He was in the first one. He played what’s his name’s dad. You know who I’m talking about? The Dark-Lord? The main guy…

Interviewer: We don’t know who his dad is.

Cooper: Oh… [laughter]

No, no, you see him. The guy who turns around and talks to him.
