Just Say No To New Warriors Comedy Series & Marvel TV

It’s being reported that Marvel TV and ABC Studios is developing a New Warriors TV show that will feature Squirrel Girl and will be a comedy.

According to TV Line, the New Warriors comedy TV show will be a half-hour project and is currently being shopped around to cable and streaming outlets.

The New Warriors comedy show is described as: the junior version of The Avengers, the New Warriors are a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl). For the record, Squirrel Girl can do more than just communicate with the world’s vast squirrel population; she also possesses super-speed and strength.

Cosmic Book News has to give a big thumbs down to this project as Richard Rider Nova was a member of the New Warriors.

It is not known if Nova will be a part of the New Warriors TV series.

As many of our regular readers know, our site launched as a result of the Marvel COSMIC Annihilation, Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy comics, the same comics that inspired and created Disney’s new billion dollar Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

However, when it was learned that the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was getting made by Marvel Studios, the head honchos at Marvel Comics fired the creative teams on the comics and replaced them with — themselves. Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb took over and replaced Richard Rider Nova. Likewise, Brian Michael Bendis, a member of the Marvel Creative Committee that knew the movie was getting made, put himself on the Guardians of the Galaxy comics. Both of their comics have been failures, and honestly an insult to comic book fans everywhere — and especially the previous creators, fans and source material.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also recently distanced himself from both Jeph Loeb and Brian Michael Bendis. Marvel Studios has nothing to do with Loeb’s Marvel TV, and Feige fired the Marvel Creative Committee and Bendis from being involved with the movies.

The Marvel comics have been nothing but Loeb, Bendis and Joe Quesada’s breeding ground for Marvel TV, and they are using the comics to further their own agendas through other media outlets which have a much greater audience than the comics.

In addition, Marvel TV and Loeb cancelled the uber popular Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series, and Loeb put his Nova in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series.

Marvel TV under Loeb is also responsible for the less than stellar Agents Of SHIELD and Agent Carter ABC series. Most recently saw the Agents Of SHIELD spinoff, Marvel’s Most Wanted, get axed. While the Marvel Netflix series do seem an improvement, the writing and the quality of the series must be questioned as they’re nowhere near as good as their movie counterparts or other comic series and similar genre series on television and cable networks (basically it’s just cool to see the characters on Netflix).

Marvel Comics, under Axel Alonso, Bendis and Quesada, is also failing as sales have been nose diving, and Marvel Comics is forced to relaunch their series seemingly every other year.

We encourage fans to continue to stake a stance regarding how Jeph Loeb, Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quesda treat the Marvel characters as well as the Marvel COSMIC characters. Fans have already successfully boycotted Loeb’s Nova Marvel comic, and the Bendis comic is now suffering a similar fate. Those same fans have also successfully gathered a petition to get Richard Rider in the MCU.

It is critical that you pay attention at this time: Don’t let them butcher any more Marvel characters.

Jeff Lemire & Mike Deodato’s Thanos #1 Solicit & Covers

I haven’t purchased Marvel comics on a monthly basis since they cancelled Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy, but this may change with Jeff Lemire and Mike Deodato’s Thanos #1 in November.

I’ve always been a big fan of both: I loved Lemire’s DC work (Frankenstein: Agents of SHADE!), and Deodato has always been a favorite of mine with his realistic approach to art.

Check out the covers and solicit information for the new Thanos #1, which I’m hoping will be a lot better than what Marvel has been putting out the past few years regarding the Mad Titan.

Looking forward to something from Marvel Comics, for once:

Marvel Comics Releasing Avengers #1 For November

Following Marvel Comics getting crushed by DC Comics in terms of comic book sales, per the norm, Marvel is relaunching brand new #1 titles for November, one of which is Avengers #1, and it comes with more than a half dozen covers.

We see the price on Avengers #1 is still rather high, coming in at five bucks, while DC has actually lowered all their prices back to $2.99.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. DC has actually seen the amount of comics ordered increase, which is opposite of the typical comic book market. Normally, sales by issue six or so are a shadow of the first issue’s sales. Marvel likes to tip the scales with a gazillion variant covers as well as adding issues to various geek box subscriptions which artificially inflates sales for the issue; however, as noted, the number of actual readers who stick around is only a small percentage, hence the reason why Marvel keeps relaunching.

I’ve said it before, fans are getting tired of characters and stories being shoved down their throats by Marvel. DC is taking a fan-friendly approach to their publishing, which is working; eventually Marvel has to do the same if they want to compete — making us all winners in the long haul.

Marvel’s Runaways TV Series Coming To Hulu

Marvel’s Runaways is coming to the Hulu digital network as a new TV series.

Deadline describes Runaways as a drama series based on the fan-favorite Marvel Comics books.

It’s reported Runaways is being developed by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Marvel TV and ABC Signature. The Runways order is for a pilot plus additional scripts with an eye toward a full-season greenlight.

The Runaways Marvel comic book was created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, and sees a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are villains and part of an evil crime organization.

It’s said the Marvel’s Runaways Hulu series will tell the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents.

Marvel.com also announced the news:

Marvel Television will be bringing the fan-favorite and ground breaking comic book series, RUNAWAYS, to popular streaming service, Hulu.

Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were? “Marvel’s Runaways” is the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe–their parents.

“We’ve known the Runaways’ story would make great television,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, “and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie–who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience–write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.”

“I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz.

Adds Savage, “Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.”

“Marvel’s Runaways” is Executive Produced by series Co-Showrunners/writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“The O.C.”, “Gossip Girl”) along with Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”) “Fake Empire’s” Lis Rowinski will produce as well.   “Marvel’s Runaways” is a co-production with ABC Signature Studios.

“Marvel’s Runaways” for Hulu is based on the comic created by the award-winning team of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona.

Netflix Lists Punisher Series For 2017 Release

It looks as if Netflix may be releasing the Punisher series in 2017, which means possibly three Marvel shows for that year.

Netflix updated their queue which says Marvel’s The Punisher comes out in 2017 and included as the description: “After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he’ll become known as The Punisher.”

It is possible the Punisher information is simply a placeholder (see below); so the release date may change.

Jon Bernthal stars as The Punisher, with with Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes.

The other two Marvel series slated for 2017 on Netflix include Iron Fist and The Defenders; however, The Defenders is only getting eight episodes (compared to thirteen) as it’s more of an event series that sees the characters from the other shows teaming up in Avengers-like fashion.

Marvel and Netflix also have Luke Cage debuting Friday, September 30th.

A Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones Season 2 is in the works as well, which look to be released in 2018.

McG Talks He-Man, Skeletor, Kellan Lutz & More

Following Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz having revealed he took a meeeting for the live action Masters of the Universe He-Man movie, earlier today saw the director on the project, McG, taking questions about the film while at FOX’s Television Critics Association.

McG stated He-Man hasn’t been cast, but offered Kellan Lutz is in the running.

We haven’t cast the role yet, but I like Kellan very much. Obviously, we need a talented entertainer, but we also need a certain physicality, which he embodies. He’ll be considered very, very closely. We haven’t gotten to the casting process yet. Kellan’s a good guy, and we had a great meeting, and he’s passionate about He-Man, he’s passionate about the Adam story. He really knows a lot about it. I was charmed by his focus and intensity. He’ll be considered very, very carefully. We’re just not there yet. We’ve got to get the movie on its feet, then we’ll cast the movie.

McG also talked about casting Skeletor and confirmed the He-Man bad guy to heavyweight villains such as Star Wars‘ Darth Vader and Die Hard‘s Hans Gruber (which means they are taking a serious take on the characters and He-Man movie).

As Skeletor? I think the characters are bigger than any given actor. I think the right actor is going to be what’s most important. I’m not really hung up on, “Oh, it’s got to be a star.” I just want someone who’s right for it. I enjoy working with big movie stars. I enjoy working with discoveries. We’re going to do what’s right, so it embodies the energy. Skeletor needs to be an incredible menace. I really think — again — I mean it when I say Vader, Gruber, Skeletor.

McG confirmed Battle Cat and Evil Lyn for He-Man and offered an update where they are with the movie.

We have a big meeting with Sony regarding prep of the movie on Wednesday. And we’re in the middle of a bit of a script polish, and it’s my absolute passion. I’m laser-focused on that being my next film.

McG also said they are inspired by and are trying to emulate what Kevin Feige did with Marvel; what James Gunn did with the Guardians of the Galxy movie, and what Margot Robbie did with Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.

“I want to make sure our Evil-Lyn is the standard bearer. That’s a tall order, isn’t it?” McG said referencing both Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress.

DC Beats Out Marvel Comics In Comic Book Sales For July 2016

DC Comics may have finally found their niche with Rebirth, which offers fans basically what they’ve wanted from the get go: quality stories at reasonable prices.

For the first time probably since the New 52 was launched back in 2011, DC Comics comes out on top over Marvel as they take the top dollar and unit amount for the month of July.

Following the failure of the New 52, DC Comics recently was forced to take a look at how they’ve been doing business. DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio recently noted they won’t be trying to emulate the movies and realize the comic book audience will never be as big as their film universe, which frees them up to do creative-driven stories. In addition, Geoff Johns has been promoted to President Of DC Entertainment, which now sees him involved in all aspects of DC, which is contrary to Marvel’s business plan that sees their Marvel movie universe run separately from their TV and comics (and sees them butting heads).

DC Comics doesn’t look to be slowing any time soon as DiDio also let it be known that sales for one week in August match the entire month of their April sales.

Regarding Marvel Comics, you can guarantee some sort of reboot or another relaunch will be happening. I think fans are getting tired of Marvel Comics, which basically has been one gimmick after another at high prices. In addition, Marvel Comics has been replacing so many of their characters with politically correct versions that fans are just fed up. If things continue to go downhill for Marvel Comics, I also expect their will be editorial and executive changes as the past five years or so of Marvel Comics has been the worst I’ve ever seen, in my opinion.

Here are the charts and info from Diamond for July:

Diamond Announces Top Products For July 2016

(BALTIMORE, MD) — (August 12, 2016) — Alien machines threaten Earth and the Justice League reforms to defeat them in Bryan Hitch, Tony S. No Marvel Marvel Movie & TV Crossover Because Of Marvel Creative Committee

Fans have been asking (begging?) for their favorite television personalities to appear in the Marvel movies.

While you may have heard the reason being that the Marvel TV and movies schedules don’t sync up, the real reason is because of the Marvel Creative Committee.

The Marvel Creative Committee consists of Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter’s boy’s club of: Alan Fine, who came with Perlmutter to Marvel through Toy Biz; Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Michael Bendis, Marvel Comics publisher Dan Buckley, and Joe Quesada, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and the current Chief Creative Officer of Marvel.

To add to that they are all good buddies with head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb.

Long story short, last year saw Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige part ways with both Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee over interference in the movies and creative differences. Captain America and Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo stated the following back in May:

“We’ve been on that [Marvel] journey from Winter Soldier, and it may have been some story points from Civil War that caused the civil war within Marvel. I think that there were years when Kevin was absorbing the pain inflicted on the company. [Marvel Studios is] much healthier, happier” [and is paving the way for] “really compelling choices.”

Regarding the crossover between Marvel Studios and TV not happening, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb recently appeared on Nerdist’s Comic Book Club podcast where he was asked about The Defenders appearing in the movies with mention there’s friction because of the Marvel Creative Committee. Via reddit:

When asked if The Defenders would be in the movies, he scoffed and went on and on about how Marvel Television is a 3 year old company and how they want to do their own thing, but specifically mentioned that they’ll see where the company is in 2019.

He then mentioned that Marvel Television projects are still all under the thumb of the Marvel Creative Committee, so that could also cause some friction between the possibility of television and movie crossovers.

Adding in my own two cents, if you have been a fan of this website or any of the Marvel COSMIC comic books, you know the Marvel Creative Committee aren’t fans of COSMIC-type stories. With the upcoming Marvel Studios movies looking like they’re heavy cosmic flicks (Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers 4, Inhumans, rumored Richard Rider Nova movie), it’s no wonder Feige booted them from being involved (in addition to whatever trouble they caused).

It’s also apparent the Marvel Creative Committee and Marvel TV like to use their comic book creator-driven work as: Agents Of SHIELD is heavily influenced by the Bendis comics; Netflix is heavily influenced by Quesada’s favorites, and Jeph Loeb went so far as to cancel the 2007 Nova comic book and replace the character he now uses in his animated TV series. There’s also the fact that Bendis cancelled and took over the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series when word of the movie getting green lit became known (and fired the writers on the Nova and GOTG comics that inspired the movie and new billion dollar Disney franchise).

It also recently became known that Kevin Feige is introducing the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse in Doctor Strange. Is Kevin Feige going to make Marvel TV a part of the multiverse and directly disconnect it from the movies, which would enable Feige to use the same characters, but with different actors?

David Ayer Says “F Marvel” At Suicide Squad Premiere; Wants To Direct Superman

Update: David Ayer has apologized for his ant-Marvel remarks.

Original story:

It’s definitely on!

At tonight’s premiere of Suicide Squad, director David Ayer took the stage and said, “F’ Marvel!”

Watch the video below.

David Ayer also told JoBlo that if given the chance, he wouldn’t mind taking on the Man of Steel.

If everything was on the table? I love Superman, I think Superman would be amazing. There’s so many; it’s such an insanely rich universe, there’s so much depth to it. You could literally open up the encyclopedia of characters and stab your finger at a page and you’d have an amazing character.

And his thoughts on Batman vs. Superman:

I liked it a lot. I love Zack; he is probably the biggest fan of DC Comics. He has an incredible passion in a very specific way, a specific take on it. He’s a smart guy, and I think he heard everybody, he heard them loud and clear, and you grow and you evolve. I thought it was a stunning movie, absolutely stunning. I wish I could get some of those shots in the can. The guy’s an amazing visualist.

“Suicide Squad” has an August 5, 2016 release date directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Synopsis:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Thanos Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts Get Recalled Due To Burn Hazard

It’s learned 360,000 Thanos Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts are being recalled due to a fire hazard.

The Infinity Gauntlet Mitts were an exclusive part of the Loot Crate Power-themed geek box.

Thanos creator Jim Starin shared the news on his official Facebook page.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission lists the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts mitts as a hazard: “The oven mitts lack thermal protection, posing a burn hazard to consumers.” Adding: “The firm has received 241 reports of burn injuries, including reports of the glove melting and burning consumers’ skin.” It’s advised: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled oven mitts, destroy them and contact Loot Crate to receive a replacement product of equal or greater value.”

The Loot Crate website is offering free replacements for the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts.

Hello, Looters. Every month, we strive to bring you unique, interesting, and fun items based on your favorite pop culture franchises. However, more important than providing something cool is the personal safety of our subscribers. Recently, we received reports that some of the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts found in May’s POWER-themed crate could not withstand certain levels of high temperature. An unexpected and unfortunate development for one of the most powerful items in the galaxy. Based on these reports, we believe it’s possible some of the oven mitts sent in your Loot Crates may pose a safety hazard and are issuing a voluntary recall on all Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts. Marvel TV has released the first three episode titles for the Netflix Luke Cage series.

It’s also learned the episode titles for Luke Cage are all named after Gang Starr songs (via HT).

Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker revealed the titles to the first three on Twitter: “One ‘Moment of Truth.’ Two: ‘Code of The Streets.’ Three: ‘Who’s Gonna Take The Weight?'”

Gang Starr was an East Coast hip hop duo founded in Boston that consisted of DJ Premier and the late MC Guru who performed from 1986-2006.

Daredevil Season 3, Punisher & Jessica Jones Season 2 Arriving In 2018

For fans of the Marvel Netflix shows, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, you are going to have to wait a bit for new episodes as it’s learned Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones Season 2 will be arriving in 2018 along with the Jon Bernthal Punisher series.

Update: Netflix has updated their queue stating Punisher in 2017.

The good news is that while you wait, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders will be filling the gap.

At the TCA press tour, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed the Marvel Netflix series wouldn’t arrive on Netflix until at least 2018.

Sarandos also confirmed Luke Cage premiers September 30th, and that both Iron Fist and Defenders debut on Netflix in 2017.

The new keeps with Netflix’s schedule of airing two Marvel series per year, which may mean Punisher may not hit until 2019 or that Netflix may break from doing two Marvel series and go with three.

It’s also reported that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher may turn up in Defenders. Bernthal also appeared at Comic-Con during the recent Marvel TV Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders panel.

Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition Coming from IDW Publishing

Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition Coming from IDW!

Celebrating “King” Kirby’s Centennial Birthday Year with Historic Launch in 2017

San Diego, CA (July 21, 2016) – January 2017 will see the release of Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition, collecting multiple complete stories, all captured directly from Jack Kirby’s original art. This will be the second Artist’s Edition of Kirby’s immensely popular and influential Marvel work, following the recent release of the highly anticipated Jack Kirby’s The Mighty Thor Artist’s Edition.

“These issues of Fantastic Four represent Jack Kirby operating at the top of his game, which is about as high a compliment as I can pay a comic book,” said noted comics historian and Kirby biographer Mark Evanier. “As a reader, I felt like the fifth member of the Fantastic Four—and that was in the small format with the bad printing. When I get the IDW book, I will probably want to move into it and live there.”

Kirby’s work on the Fantastic Four, with his long-time collaborator Stan Lee, is considered to be some of the finest comics ever done. Adding to the prestige, legendary inker Joe Sinnott embellished all the pages in this book. This breathtaking volume will include Issues #82 and #83 (guest-starring the Inhumans), and the 48-page epic from Fantastic Four Annual #6, featuring the birth of Franklin Richards, plus more!

“Kirby’s inventive story-telling set the bar that Marvel has honored for decades,” says David Gabriel, SVP Sales & Marketing, Marvel Comics. “We couldn’t be prouder to see this fantastic work made available in this new prestige over-sized format that pays tribute to Jack ‘The King’ Kirby’s exemplary talent and skill.”

“What better way is there to kick off Jack Kirby’s centennial birthday year than by releasing our first Kirby Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition?” said editor (and life-long Kirby fan) Scott Dunbier. “And did you catch how I said first?”

IDW Pioneered the Artist’s Edition format in 2010 and has won five consecutive Eisner Awards to date.

DC Sales Skyrocket As DC Comics Goes Back To Its Roots With Rebirth

The last few years have seen both DC Comics and Marvel attempt to emulate their respective film markets, which has been a miserable failure. No longer would they be the leader inspiring ideas, but instead have become the follower.

The launch of the New 52 saw word that the movie executives were interfering with the DC Comics (specifically with Superman).

Likewise, any fan of Marvel Comics knows the once great “House of Ideas” has become a shadow of its former self. One specific example that hits home is when Marvel Comics cancelled the great Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning Marvel Cosmic titles, Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy, when they received word the movie was being green lit. DnA inspired a new billion dollar Disney franchise, but got canned for it, with Jeph Loeb and Brian Bendis reaping the rewards (nice place to work at).

Another example by Marvel is with Matt Fraction’s Thor run, as Marvel Comics caused interference by requiring mandates on Fraction when the Marvel Studios Thor movie was getting released (could also explain why Fraction left Inhumans as they appear on Agents of SHIELD).

The good news is that at least DC Comics has seen the light of day with the recent launch of their Rebirth event, which seems to have taken their publishing direction to a time prior to the New 52, and one that sees DC aiming to please the fans instead of attempting to force-feed the readers garbage they don’t want (i.e. Marvel NOW).

Sales are doing so well for Rebirth, that DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio offered up that sales for the first week of August are equivalent to their total for the entire month of April.

“When you put a number up like that, you sit and you start to giggle,” DiDio said at a recent Comic-Con presentation, reports THR. “You think, ‘Holy shit, this worked!'”

DC is also bucking the trend of subsequent issues of the comics falling in sales, as sales are increasing from second and third issues.

“I’ve never seen anything like that,” DC Comics artist and co-publisher Jim Lee said.

DiDio continues with mention that sales on everything are up and further notes that lesser known books that get rave reviews are seeing sales increase.

“What we’ve seen is that, traditionally, if a book sells poorly as a periodical, it sells poorly as a trade. If it sells extraordinarily well as a periodical, it sells extraordinarily well as a trade,” he explained. “What we’ve seen is that, with the Midnighter book in particular, [which had] a lot of great press, a lot of great reviews, that’s where we’ve seen reviews really inform the sales on the graphic novel collection.”

Lee continues with mention that whenever a new movie or TV show is announced, sales for the source material go through the roof (such as Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight), but what’s interesting is that DiDio says the material based on the movies/TV doesn’t do as well.

“The interesting thing is that material that inspires media sells much better than material that is derivative of media,” DiDio said. “That’s the one thing that we see over and over. If we base a book on a movie, it will sell less than the comic or graphic novel that inspired the movie.”

The article then notes not to expect DC Comics to shell out more comics based on movies and/or TV, but take to a page from yesteryear and be the inspiration.

“That’s the key aspect of what we do in comics. We aspire others to be creative. We don’t have the numbers, the sales, to be comparative — we could be a drop in the bucket — but the source material is clearly identified as the comic books. It pushes us to be more creative — not to follow but to lead,” DiDio said.

Marvel Studios May Be Introducing Same Characters As Marvel TV Through Multiverse & Doctor Strange

We know Marvel Studios recently broke away from Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel TV/Comics goons.

This weekend at Comic-Con also saw Marvel Studios launch their own social networks and change their movie intro from comic book footage to film footage (further distancing themselves from Marvel TV/Comics).

Now it’s learned the Doctor Strange movie will be introducing the Multiverse, which is Marvel’s collection of alternate timelines and universes.

Could this be Kevin Feige’s way to use the same characters in the Marvel movies that are currently on TV?

For example, Marvel TV recently announced the car version of Ghost Rider (that no one’s thrilled about) will be on Agents Of SHIELD. Possibly going the “Multiverse,” route would mean Marvel Studios could use Dan Ketch or even Johnny Blaze. Likewise, Marvel Studios could then use a different Daredevil (etc.) in the movies. Update: Another possibility is that Feige could simply be sticking Marvel TV in the multiverse, which would free up the characters for movie use.

Another bonus with the Multiverse is that Marvel Studios could use already existing movie characters (i.e. Iron Man) using different actors and costumes (similar to what WB and DC are now doing).

CBR reports Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson confirms the Multiverse:

“What the comics did was, they brought with Doctor Strange an extra dimension into psychadelia, mysticism, and spirituality and all these very 60’s things and broke open the Marvel comic book universe into the Marvel multiverse. I think ‘Doctor Strange’ is going to be the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. It’s really serving the same function that the comic did.”

Back a few months ago even saw Charlie Cox, the Daredevil actor in the Netflix series, hint there could be a Marvel Multiverse where Marvel Studios would use a different Daredevil actor for the films:

“Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. Even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn even confirmed the divide between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV a while back stating there is no connection between the two:

“There is Marvel TV who is pretty disconnected from Marvel Film, which is owned by Disney, and that’s really not connected at all.”

So hopefully that means we could still see Norma Reedus as Ghost Rider after all.

“Hell yeah. It would be a blast,” Reedus said about potentially playing Marvel’s Spirit of Vengeance. “Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? F–k yeah. I’m down.”
