Geoff Johns Defends Wonder Woman

As I previously posted: Have no fear! Geoff Johns is here!

The Wonder Woman movie marks the first DCEU film that Geoff Johns is fully on board. Following the Batman vs. Superman “fallout,” Johns was promoted to president of DC Entertainment and is now more involved in the DC movies than ever before. Johns helped write Wonder Woman and is also co-writing Ben Affleck’s Batman movie.

A few days ago saw an alleged former WB employee attack the Wonder Woman movie, calling it a mess, which caused Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to take to Twitter to blast the claims.

Now we hear from Geoff Johns who took to Twitter to offer support.

“I am so proud of [Patty Jenkins],” Johns tweeted and also included a big heart emoji in the post.

Things also seem to be on the rise for the rest of DC Entertainment as DC Comics took the top sales spot away from Marvel in the month of July.

“Damn! Congratulations to all my fellow creators on #DCRebirth on those July numbers! Everyone is pouring passion in and it shows! @DCComics,” Johns said.

Following Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot will also be featured in Justice League. Jason Momoa recently posted an image of the two showcasing their musical skills.

“Wonder Woman” has a June 2, 2017 release directed by Patty Jenkins starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.

Synopsis:

Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Patty Jenkins Fires Back At Wonder Woman Rumors

Earlier today saw a rumor hit the net from an alleged former employee of Warner Bros. stating the Wonder Woman movie is “a mess” and “don’t try to hide behind the great trailer” as well as that “people inside are already confirming it’s another mess.”

Now director Patty Jenkins has responded to the Wonder Woman rumors via Twitter.

“Woah, just saw this press about [Wonder Woman] having problems. Are they serious? This is some made up bs right here. Made up! Produce a source, anyone,” Jenkins responded.

“You can’t because it’s entirely false,” Jenkins continued. “Don’t believe the hype people. Someone’s trying to spread some serious misinfo.”

Patty Jenkins further tweeted out additional comments shooting down the Wonder Woman rumor.

“Isn’t until you are intimately involved in these things that you realize how totally false these rumors can. Let me reassure you… Zero about the movie we are making has been called a mess by anyone in the know. Fact.” Jenkins said. “Real lasso of truth, time, will reveal that letter to be false soon enough. But lame something so transparent in its agenda gets traction.”

Wonder Woman Movie Is A Fresh Approach To Ass-Kicking

The latest issue of Total Film magazine features an article about Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins.

Gal Gadot talks what the movie is about, with the article noting “Diana (as she is initially known) goes from a timeless isle to trenchwarfare in the 20th century.”

“This is the character’s origin story. She’s not American – she comes from Themyscira, where she’s raised by her mother [Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta] and all the other Amazons,” Gadot offers. “She’s never seen a man in her entire life. This is the journey of her coming of age, of how she sees the world through different eyes.”

It’s also said the Wonder Woman movie “promises a unique mix of fantasy and historical reality,” and that it will also feature a “fresh approach to ass-kicking.”

“I feel like we’re not the first people to have female fighting going on, but I feel that something very successful has come together here that is fully feminine, but still incredibly strong and sexy,” director Patty Jenkins said as well as adding the Amazons have an ample skill-set, and are less about raw force than good, honest teamwork.

“Gal Gadot, really, truly is Wonder Woman. I’ve said so many times [on set], ‘Gal, in the worst-case scenario, just be yourself – because you really are so true to the sprirt of this character,” Jenkins said.

“Wonder Woman” has a June 2, 2017 release directed by Patty Jenkins also starring Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis , Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and Connie Nielsen.

WB Exec Talks DC Vs. Marvel Movies, Batman Vs. Superman & Wonder Woman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20853:]]

Warner Bros. film chief Greg Silverman offers updates on the DC slate of movies in an recent interview with THR.com.

Regarding how WB will differentiate the DC movies from Disney’s Marvel movies, Silverman offers:

We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other. You’ll see the difference when you see Batman v. SupermanSuicide SquadJustice League and all the things that we are working on.

There is intensity and a seriousness of purpose to some of these characters. The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development. There’s also humor, which is an important part.

Silverman also comments on Michelle MacLaren leaving Wonder Woman, with Patty Jenkins coming on to direct:

We had a very intensive process looking at everybody. Patty and Michelle were really the ones who came to the forefront the first go-round, so when things didn’t work out with Michelle, we all knew we had someone great who had expressed interest before. She came back and is doing a great job. But it was never about the best female director. She has demonstrated doing amazing work with female characters, such as in Monster.

Wonder Woman also had multiple writers on the project with each writing different scripts. Silverman explains the reasoning:

Every project is different. On some projects, we have multiple writers working together. In some cases, we put writers together who have never been a team together. And sometimes, there is only one writer whose voice is right. In the case of Wonder Woman, the right approach was to have writers pitching different scenes within the framework we created.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits March 25, 2016 followed by “Suicide Squad” on August 5, 2016, with “Wonder Woman” and “Justice League Part 1” in 2017.

WB Dropped Michelle MacLaren Because Her Wonder Woman Was Like Braveheart

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20106:]]

This past Monday saw Michelle MacLaren dropped from the Wonder Woman movie over “creative differences” with Warner Bros.

WB quickly announced that Patty Jenkins had replaced MacLaren.

Now Variety is reporting the reason for MacLaren’s departure.

While the article tries to spin things in favor of WB, MacLaren’s idea actually sounds pretty cool in that she envisioned her Wonder Woman movie to be an action-packed epic origin story in the vein of Braveheart.

It’s said WB wants a Wonder Woman movie to be more character-driven with less emphasis on heavy action, which apparently is what caused MacLaren and WB to bump heads.

The article goes on to mention that studio insiders also said MacLaren was having a tough time with the job (which may very well be BS) in that she was “unaccustomed to the laborious development process associated with making movies” – with one source adding MacLaren felt it “tortuous” when it came to the pre-production of Wonder Woman.

It’s also said WB had little faith MacLaren could pull of such an epic movie as she only had small screen experience working on Breaking Bad, Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones.

According to the report, Jason Fuchs wrote a Wonder Woman script, with WB then bringing in five more writers to work up different versions of a Wonder Woman movie while executives at WB tested the story concepts. It’s said one of the execs stated that they didn’t like MacLaren’s test.

Now WB is bringing Patty Jenkins up to speed to keep up with the 2017 release date and is currently looking to cast Wonder Woman’s love interest.

Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman and will first appear in Batman Vs. Superman May 2016.

Thor 2’s Patty Jenkins To Direct Wonder Woman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20074:]]

Monday saw Michelle MacLaren drop out from directing the Wonder Woman due to creative differences, and now it’s learned Patty Jenkins has been brought on board to take over.

Patty Jenkins was at one time lined up to direct Thor 2, but in similar circumstances, left the Marvel movie over creative differences.

THR reports Jenkins has closed the deal for Wonder Woman with Warner Bros.

It’s said WB and Jenkins need to movie pretty fast to keep up with the 2017 Wonder Woman release date. As far as the script goes, it was previously said that MacLaren was heavily involved in its shaping, so it remains to be seen whether or not Jenkins will need to retool the script or even start over from scratch.

Jenkins saw directorial success with her debut movie starring Charlize Theron on Monsters and has done episodes of the AMC hit series The Killing.

Gal Gadot will star as Wonder Woman and be featured in the May 2016 Batman Vs. Superman.
