Marvel’s Runaways TV Series Coming To Hulu

Marvel’s Runaways is coming to the Hulu digital network as a new TV series.

Deadline describes Runaways as a drama series based on the fan-favorite Marvel Comics books.

It’s reported Runaways is being developed by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Marvel TV and ABC Signature. The Runways order is for a pilot plus additional scripts with an eye toward a full-season greenlight.

The Runaways Marvel comic book was created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, and sees a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are villains and part of an evil crime organization.

It’s said the Marvel’s Runaways Hulu series will tell the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents.

Marvel.com also announced the news:

Marvel Television will be bringing the fan-favorite and ground breaking comic book series, RUNAWAYS, to popular streaming service, Hulu.

Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were? “Marvel’s Runaways” is the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe–their parents.

“We’ve known the Runaways’ story would make great television,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, “and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie–who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience–write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.”

“I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz.

Adds Savage, “Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.”

“Marvel’s Runaways” is Executive Produced by series Co-Showrunners/writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“The O.C.”, “Gossip Girl”) along with Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”) “Fake Empire’s” Lis Rowinski will produce as well.   “Marvel’s Runaways” is a co-production with ABC Signature Studios.

“Marvel’s Runaways” for Hulu is based on the comic created by the award-winning team of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona.

Supergirl Season 2 Up In The Air

The future of Supergirl is currently up in the air, with the decision regarding a Season 2 coming within the next couple of weeks.

CBS seems to be hesitant to go with another season of Supergirl due to ratings as well as the high cost of developing the series.

It’s not all bad news as Deadline reports other networks are interested in Supergirl, with The CW named as a possibility.

Hulu is also suggested as Supergirl may make a nice addition to combat Netflix’s Marvel series.

Regarding the high cost of Supergirl, said to be $3 million an episode, Season 1 was filmed in Los Angeles, and CBS also has to pay Warner Bros. a high licensing fee. It’s possible Supergirl may move to Vancouver to film, and that CBS and WB may be able to renegotiate a lower licensing fee, which will reduce costs for CBS.

Supergirl executive producer Greg Berlanti’s CW shows film in Vancouver with Arrow, Flash, and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

The ratings for Supergirl are not that bad, but have dropped from a high of 10 million viewers for its premiere to about half of that over the season.

Supergirl‘s ratings did jump 31% with The Flash crossover, so the potential is still there for high ratings, which CBS certainly has taken notice of.
