Rosario Dawson Returns For Daredevil Season 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20466:]]

The Night Nurse returns for season two of the Daredevil Netflix series as Rosario Dawson will be back as Claire Temple.

Marvel.com announced the news where it’s mentioned Daredevil Season 2 will air in 2016, and that Dawson’s deal will allow her to appear in the other Marvel Netflix series.

Info:

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple in the second season of  the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” coming in 2016, as part of a larger exclusive TV deal that will also allow her to appear in any of Marvel’s other Netflix original series.

Romantically entangled with Matt Murdock in the series’ first season, Claire helped the hero after more than a few of his brutal battles in the streets of Hell’s Kitchen.

Celebrated for her work in  “Top Five,” “Cesar Chavez,” “Sin City,” “Kids,” and much more, fans can currently see her as Claire Temple, a character with ties to many of the Defenders heroes in the comics, in Season 1 of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” only on Netflix.

“After working with Rosario in the first season, we knew instantly that we had to have her back for our second,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb. “Claire Temple proved a fan favorite in Season 1, and we can’t wait for fans to see all the plans we have for her next.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

“Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones” comes only to Netflix later this year and “Marvel’s Luke Cage” premieres on the streaming service in 2016. Future series exclusively debuting on Netflix include “Marvel’s Iron Fist” and “Marvel’s Defenders,” a mini-series event uniting key characters from the previous series.

Joss Whedon Wanted A Daredevil Movie Instead Of TV Series

Daredevil has been a raging success for Marvel and Netflix as it’s received rave reviews and topped the ratings.

Now it’s learned instead of a Netflix series, Daredevil almost became a Marvel Studios movie.

Joss Whedon tells IGN he wanted a new Daredevil feature film instead of the TV series, but does offer that adapting comic to TV does work as comics are set-up in a similar fashion.

Here is the blurb:

I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steve DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour! So I haven’t seen it yet. If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialized entertainment, and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies.

I like [Daredevil] because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me, I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV, but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much, that I think it might just be the right place for it.

Whedon has Avengers 2 out his Friday, and Marvel has already announced Daredevil Season 2 is in development.

Watch: Frank Underwood Interviews Daredevil

Check out the video above posted by Netflix featuring Kevin Spacey and Charlie Cox asking each other questions about their respective shows.

Spacey stars in the hit Netflix series House of Cards, with Cox the newest addition playing Marvel’s Daredevil.

Ratings have also become known with both series dominating the Netflix charts.

Variety reports that an estimated 10.7% of all Netflix subscribers watched at least one episode of Daredevil in its first 11 days on the streaming service, while House of Cards Season 3 attracted 6.5% of subscribers over its first 30 days of availability.

With Netflix stated to have around 63 million viewers, those numbers aren’t too shabby.

Daredevil Charlie Cox Is Contracted To Do Marvel Movies

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20232:]]

Will we see the Man Without Fear side-by-side The Avengers?

It’s definitely a strong possibility with the success the Daredevil Netflix series has become in addition to the positive fan reception.

While Charlie Cox has stated he hasn’t heard anything from Marvel Studios, the good news is that it’s in Cox’s contract to do be a part of the MCU.

Speaking with close-upfilm.com, Cox says:

It’d be great. I’ve read Civil War [comic] now, I’ve read The New Avengers [comic], I know he’s in there but I think I missed the boat on Civil War because they’re filming that. I don’t know, Marvel have not mentioned that to me at all. It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again. And I get to do The Defenders at some point.

While Cox may not be appearing in Captain America 3, perhaps we will see Daredevil in Marvel’s Infinity War movies.

Daredevil is currently available on Netflix with 13 episodes, and Season 2 is in the works.

Daredevil Season 2 Greenlit

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20166:]]

Following the debut of the first season of Daredevil on April 10th, now Marvel and Netflix have announced a second season is on the way.

Marvel.com announced the news with mention there will be new showruners for the second season: Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Daredevil Season 2, in addition, Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard and Jeph Loeb  will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight explains, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”

Look for Marvel’s next Netflix series, Jessica Jones, later this year with Luke Cage in 2016 and plans for Iron Fist and The Defenders to be announced soon.

Daredevil Second Most Pirated Show Following Game Of Thrones

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20092:]]

It’s learned that Daredevil is the second most illegally downloaded show following Game of Thrones for the week of April 10 – 16th.

Variety reports there have been 2.1 million individual users that have downloaded episodes of the show worldwide via torrent networks – even though Netflix is available for less than ten bucks a month.

Game Of Thrones, over the same time period, saw 6.5 illegal download torrents, which is in part due to the first episode of Season 5 and three more episodes leaking online as well as past Season’s episodes being available.

It’s reported Brazil had the highest number of torrents with about 190,274 and was followed by India (149,316), the U.S. (144,351), the U.K. (119,891), France (105,473) and Australia (101,025).

The illegally downloaded torrents don’t seem to be affecting Netflix in a negative light as Wall St. recently sent their stocks rocketing in price, rising 14.7% and touching an all-time high of $546.60, which makes Netflix even more valuable than CBS.

“Daredevil” is currently available on Netflix with 13 episodes.

Daredevil Easter Eggs Include Iron Fist, Stan Lee, Hulk & Avengers

Daredevil is now on Netflix with all 13 episodes.

I’m through four episodes, but others have finished the series and posted various Easter Eggs online.

Check a few out including the newspapers on Ben Urich’s wall referencing the Incredible Hulk and The Avengers; a picture of what looks to be Stan Lee at the police station; Stick’s apprentice, Stone; a reference to Iron Fist with the Steel Serpent symbol.

Updated: with a pic of a newspaper referencing Alex Maleev art.

Update #2: with a poster referencing costumed superheroes.

Update #3:

There may have been an Electra reference when Matt and Foggy were talking about the Greek girl they knew in college – “whatever happened to her?” – as Electra is greek and became an assassin for The Hand and Kingpin in the comics.

Matt and Foggy also mentioned “Roxxon” during a flashback to their intern days (Roxxon Corp. is responsible for killing Tony Stark’s parents).

Clare Temple is a reference to The Night Nurse in the comics (and also had a relationship with Luke Cage,)

The character Melvin Potter in the series is the DD ally/foe Gladiator.

Jason Finney plays Stone, the apprentice to Stick.

“Black Sky” may be a reference to vampires (black sky possibly referring to bats).

The office door of Nelson and Murdock has “Van Lunt Real Estate” underneath, which references Cornelius Van Lunt, aka Taurus, and a member of the Zodiac.

The office across from Nelson and Murdock has the “Atlas” comics logo, which is the original name of Marvel Comics.

Madame Gao might be Crane Mother.

“Mike” may have been a reference to DD’s fake twin brother persona in the comics, Mike Murdock.

Crushed Creel poster (see below).

Both Matt Murdock and Skye, from Agents Of SHIELD, grew up at the St. Agnes Orphanage.

Kingpin’s white suit from the comics is joked about when Vanessa said she was once seduced by a prince in a white suit and ascot.

Leland Owlsley is The Owl.

Turk Barrett is Stilt Man (the stilts are featured in Melvin Potter’s work shop – see below).

A sniper is carrying an Ace Of Spades card possibly meaning he is Bullseye (see below).

The name “Barton” (Clint Barton is Hawkeye) can be seen on a sign in the gym.

Samurai Steel is referenced on a shipping container with “Asano Robotics” (see below).

Are Daredevil Fight Scenes Too Over-The-Top? Watch A Scene

Check out a big fight scene above from Marvel’s Daredevil.

The series has been getting a lot of acclaim and rave reviews for the fight scenes, but honestly, I find them a little overboard.

Yeah, I get it that DD has super powers, but the guys he is hitting do not.

Case in point, we see DD take out all the guys above, and then they get up for round two (or three or four). It’s just not realistic. Daredevil smashes a guy in the face with a metal gun, and the guy gets up? Not gonna happen.

I do get it’s a fictional series, but for the approach they are going with – dark and gritty – a lot of the fights are just too much. It needs to be toned down just a bit, IMO.

Check it out for yourself above.

James Gunn Loves New Daredevil Netflix Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20005:]]

James Gunn, no stranger to voicing his opinion, offers this thoughts on the new Marvel Daredevil series on Netflix.

Gunn offers he has always loved the character since he was a boy and loved the new series.

Gunn also says the scripts have been true to the character.

Via Gunn’s Facebook:

I have loved the character of Daredevil since I was a little boy. Outside of Batman, Daredevil probably has more great comic book arcs than any other character. From Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli to Kevin Smith to Ed Brubaker and on and on, the character has elicited some of the best work from some of the greatest comic book storytellers.

So I was a bit frightened last night when I dug into the new Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series. I’m a rough TV critic – I love five or so shows on the air right now, but that’s about it – and I didn’t want to see one of my favorite characters come up short. On top of that I really like Steven S. DeKnight, the showrunner, and Drew Goddard, the creator, both as people and as creative forces (Spartacus, Cloverfield, Cabin in the Woods, etc).

Well, I love it. The cast is great. Charlie Cox is just awesome, and Elden Henson is about as an amazing a Foggy as I could have imagined. The fight sequences stand alongside Spartacus and Rome as some of the best TV fight sequences ever (so, the best TV fight sequences ever not performed in togas). And the scripts have been touching and on point and true to the character. In the first few episodes, I cried twice: once in a scene between young Matt and battling Jack, and again when I realized this character I loved so much for so long had been brought to television with such spirit, love, and care.

What I’m saying is, there’s a huge Marvel event going on right now, and it’s Daredevil on Netflix I hope you guys check it out.

James Gunn is directing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 for Marvel, which has a May 5, 2017 release.

Daredevil Showrunner Wants R-Rated Punisher

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19866:]]

With hopefully the upcoming Marvel Netflix Daredevil series being such a success, perhaps following Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist we could see the Punisher.

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight recently spoke with SciFiNow and stated he would love to get an R-Rated Punisher series made.

“I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this,” DeKnight said. “Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”

Though Daredevil won’t be R-rated, it will still be pretty dark and gritty, and Charlie Cox even said the Man Without Fear is pretty close to the character of the Punisher.

“Steven DeKnight said that Daredevil is one bad day away from being the Punisher,” added Cox. “I thought that was really helpful. Again, it adds to the dark tone, and I think it’s more interesting to watch.”

Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson previously played Frank Castle, maybe Steven DeKnight already has plans for a new “Frank” to cameo in Daredevil?
