No Batman or Constantine For CW DC TV

A couple of weeks ago saw a rumor hit that suggested both Constantine and Batman would be a part of the CW DC TV universe.

Now EP Greg Berlanti is stating that’s not the case.

At the Television Critics Association press tour, Berlanti said, “We haven’t had any conversations with them about Constantine. Constantine exists in a certain place in the DC world and universe. They’re kind of internally examining what they want to do with that character next.”

Berlanti mentioning they are internally examining what they are going to do with Constantine may suggest the character could be featured in the DC movies.

Regarding Batman on the CW, Berlanti shot down the rumors of using Batman, Batwoman and Oracle, and said they are “completely baseless.”

Berlanti said there are currently no plans to include Batman characters in Arrow, Supergirl or any of the Arrowverse shows.

The original rumor mentioned that Fox owned the Batman rights and would have to share the Batman rights for a fee, so it’s possible Fox may have scoffed at the idea.

Batman, Constantine & More Rumored For DC CW TV Universe

A batch of rumors surrounding the DC TV universe surfaces which includes mention of Batman, Constantine, Batwoman, Oracle and more.

Now that both The Flash and Superman are appearing in both the movie and TV universes (played by different actors; movies and TV are separate universes), it’s possible WB may have relaxed their rules surrounding the sharing of characters. It’s actually a great route to go as WB can take advantage of their popular characters across all forms of media, than say Marvel, which has one big shared universe (but no mention of the TV characters is ever made in the movies).

Regarding Batman, Bleeding Cool is stating that Fox currently has the TV rights, which is tied up with Gotham, but Fox may share the rights for a fee.

Constantine with Matt Ryan may get revived as part of the CW’s supernatural Friday as The Vampire Diaries is ending, and The CW may want to go with Constantine to fill the horror gap.

Batwoman is said to be appearing in Supergirl with Kathy/Kate Kane being Maggie Sawyer’s ex, whose adventures as Batwoman occasionally take her to National City.

Oracle Barbara Gordon is also said to be coming to Supergirl (though apparently not as Batgirl) where she befriends Kara, and the Oracle/Batwoman relationship/plot is said to resemble Birds of Prey

The Flash‘s John Wesley Shipp is said to be another cross-series regular, probably as Jay Garrick (similar deal to Wentworth Miller and John Barrowman).

It’s possible some of these announcements may be made this week at Comic-Con.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Rumored For One Season; More On Flash & Supergirl

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23053:]]

This past Thanksgiving saw a batch of DC TV rumors hit the net stating Constantine is going to be a part of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, as well as The Flash appearing on Supergirl.

Now a couple of days later some things have changed.

According to the originator of the rumors, Bleeding Cool, the Constantine rumor might not hold true as another “source” is going so far as to state there may not even be a Season 2 for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The thought behind that rumor is the series is said to be incredibly expensive, and they are not sure if they will go ahead with a second season, but instead will go with a totally new series of some kind.

IMO, the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow rumors more or less seem as just simply ideas being tossed around, than anything else that would be of merit.

Regarding The Flash and Supergirl, the good news is that the original rumor is still holding true (at this time), with it said the storyline may involve an arc from the DC Comics Supergirl comic book about New Krypton, which saw 100,000 Kryptonians come to Earth after Brainiac freed them from the bottle city of Kandor, with a new planet being built for them. I believe the EP’s of Supergirl and Flash/Arrow said initially there wouldn’t be a crossover, but it seems that Supergirl‘s ratings have dipped a bit, so they may want to connect it to The Flash, which is a pretty popular show and character right now.

Constantine Rumored For DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow; Flash For Supergirl

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23049:]]

We get a pair of DC TV rumors for this Thanksgiving as it’s being said that not only will Grant Gust guest star as The Flash in CBS’ Supergirl, but that Constantine has been saved.

According to Bleeding Cool, a “Thanksgiving Day source” has filled them in that Grant Gustin will appear as The Flash next May in Supergirl.

Regarding Constantine, it’s said that the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will be switched up each Season, with Matt Ryan set to return as Constantine as a series regular for Season 2 of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow in 2017.

Another tidbit notes Steven R McQueen will be cast as a new hero for Season 2 of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. McQueen was previously vying to play Nightwing.

El Rey Network Airing Constantine Episodes & More

Following a recent petition to #SaveConstantine, which was targeted at a variety of networks, here is a reminder that the El Rey Network is airing recent episodes of Constantine on Tuesdays, which kicked off last week with the first episode.

Below you can read the official details that sees the El Rey Network announce a variety of series they have acquired to rerun which also includes Almost Human, Human Target, Mortal Kombat, Freddy’s Nightmares, V and Night Visions.

EL REY NETWORK INKS DEAL WITH WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION TO ACQUIRE POPULAR SERIES INCLUDING ‘CONSTANTINE’ AND ‘ALMOST HUMAN’

DEBUTING NOVEMBER 2015, CULT FAVORITES CELEBRATE THEIR BASIC CABLE PREMIERES ON ROBERT RODRIGUEZ’S 24-HOUR CABLE NETWORK

El Rey Network, the 24-hour English-language cable network founded by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, has finalized an acquisition deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution to license the exclusive off-network cable rights for all episodes of the popular series, “Constantine,” and “Almost Human,” which will make their basic cable debuts beginning November 2015. Also under this multi-year agreement, El Rey Network will acquire several additional high-profile properties rolling out in 2015 and 2016. This includes the basic cable premiere of “Human Target,” plus “V: The Series,” “Mortal Kombat: Conquest,” “Freddy’s Nightmares,” “The Twilight Zone,” “V Miniseries” and “Night Visions.”

“We are proud to have these extremely popular titles make their off network cable debuts on El Rey Network,” added Robert Rodriguez, Founder and Chairman, El Rey Network. “This is the kind of distinctive, action packed content that viewers have come to expect on our air and these franchises will be the perfect compliment to our existing line-up of iconic and thrilling originals and acquisitions.”

Constantine (Airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET – 11:00p.m. ET beginning on November 3)

Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. He fights the good fight – or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to abandon his campaign against evil until a series of events thrusts him back into the fray, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent.

Almost Human (Airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET – 11:00 p.m. ET beginning on November 9)

In 2048, police officer John Kennex wakes up from a 17-month coma without his girlfriend, his partner – and without one of his legs. While Kennex survived a catastrophic attack on the police department, his partner, relationship and one limb did not. Now outfitted with highly sophisticated synthetic appendage – along with depression, trauma on-set OCD and PTSD – Kennex is persuaded to come back to work by his longtime captain. As all cops are required to work with a robot, Kennex must overcome his aversion to androids and get accustomed to his new partner, a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.

Human Target (Premieres in 2016)

The series follows the life of San Francisco-based Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a unique private contractor, bodyguard and security expert hired to protect his clients. Rather than taking on the target’s identity himself (as in the comic book version), he protects his clients by completely integrating himself into their lives, to become a “human target.”

Mortal Kombat: Conquest (Premieres in 2015)

In a dark and mythical re-telling of classic tale of good versus evil, the TV series “Mortal Kombat: Conquest” follows the fierce warrior Kung Lao and his comrades Taja and Siro on their quest to protect the earth realm from falling under the control of the evil conqueror of realms Shao Kahn, ruler of the Outworld. Vital to the survival of mankind are warriors who can compete in Mortal Kombat. While combatants from Outworld have magic and darkness on their side, fighters from the Earth Realm have only their strength, both physical and mental, and belief that their cause is just and right.

Freddy’s Nightmares (Premieres in 2015)

Based on the Nightmare on Elm Street film series, “Freddy’s Nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street the Series” is an anthology show hosted by Freddy Krueger. Krueger sometimes appeared in the episodes, but often he just hosted the strange, “Twilight Zone”-like stories about the residents of Springwood’s nightmares. Episodes consist of two stories, usually with a small character from the first half of the episode becoming the focus of the second half. In an unusual move for an anthology series, many episodes had sequels that documented the further adventures of characters who had appeared in previous episodes.

V Miniseries (Premieres in 2016)

“V” is a two-part science fiction television miniseries, written and directed by Kenneth Johnson. First shown in 1983, it initiated the science fiction franchise concerning aliens known as “The Visitors” trying to gain control of Earth, and of the ways the populace reacts to this.

V: The Series (Premieres in 2016)

A remake of the 1983 miniseries created by Kenneth Johnson, the new series chronicles the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced alien species which ostensibly comes in peace, but actually has sinister motives. V stars Morena Baccarin, Lourdes Benedicto, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Charles Mesure, Elizabeth Mitchell, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf. The Twilight Zone (Premieres in 2016)

This 2002 remake of the classic series, created by Rod Sterling and hosted by Forest Whitaker, presents tales of suspense, fantasy, science fiction and horror.

Night Visions (Premieres in 2016)

“Night Visions” is an anthology series similar to The Twilight Zone – some tales are supernatural, others are just commentaries on twisted human nature. Each hour episode is made up of two half-hour episodes aired back-to-back.

Save Constantine Petition Aimed At CW, Netflix, Yahoo, USA & El Rey Networks

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22871:]]

Probably my second favorite comic show on TV (behind The Flash) was Constantine, which ended up seeing it’s premiere season cut as well as cancelled by NBC.

David Goyer recently commented that he felt it was a mistake to air Constantine on NBC admitting: “In retrospect, I don’t think it should have been on NBC. I think it was the wrong channel, and I’m sure they probably agree with that as well… We almost doubled our numbers in DVR numbers, but they weren’t quite there in network television in counting those metrics. If it had been on a basic cable channel, it could still be on.”

I think we all have to agree with Goyer as Constantine, at least in my opinion, would have been a success on the CW, and it’s light years better than NBC’s Heroes Reborn.

With Matt Ryan recently reprising as Constantine on Arrow (bad news is it’s a one and done thing), the #SaveConstantine campaign has kicked up again. A petition has been launched which is targeting the CW, Netflix, Yahoo, USA & El Rey networks asking the to consider airing new episodes. Update: The El Rey Network is currently airing Constantine Season 1 episodes.

The Save Constantine petition currently has over 14,000 signatures with 15,000 needed, so that is less than 100 required to fulfill the petition’s obligation.

I’ve signed it, head on over to Change.org to voice your support. The series is too good to let go.

The dark supernatural TV series Constantine originally aired on NBC for one 13 episode season only to be cancelled. This left a very strong and avid fanbase without any network for their show to call home. Constantine needs to be saved by another network to give the fans closure. This situation would be a win for both sides. The network to pick it up will receive a boost in ratings and revenue while the fans will be able to see their beloved show live once more. On November 4th, 2015, it was proved that the Constantine fanbase is still very much alive as evidenced by the reception to the character’s appearance on the 5 episode of Arrow’s fourth season. We encourage you to sign this petition to show the various networks available to pick this show up that there is in fact interest for the show to live on. The networks we will be targeting are El Rey Network, The CW, Netflix, Yahoo Screen, and the USA network.
