No Agents Of SHIELD Marvel Netflix Crossover Going To Happen

With Marvel TV being responsible for Agents Of SHIELD as well as the Marvel Netflix shows, you would think a crossover could happen at some point (even DC managed Flash and Supergirl with two different networks).

However, outside a venue at Comic-Con, it’s learned a crossover isn’t going to happen any time soon, as apparently, there happens to be some corporate mumbo jumo at Marvel TV that’s not going to allow it.

The cast of Agents Of SHIELD is asked which Marvel character they would like to “chase after” in the below video with the mention of a crossover coming up in the discussion.

Clark Gregg talks about the possibility of Agent Coulson meeting Iron Fist offering he would love to see it happen, but due to red tape, it’s not.

Because it was one of my favorite comics as a teen, I would have said Daniel Rand, Iron Fist, but suddenly there’s a gigantic invisible force-field barrier called “Corporate Stuff,” unless who knows, maybe we will develop a weapon to break through that, and get me over to Netflix for a minute. I would like that. But if that barrier came down, then God knows I’d want to talk to Luke Cage. After seeing the footage… Oh, yeah. [Mike] Colter is a beast.

Maybe this shouldn’t be all that surprising as it’s already known the “Marvel” brand at Disney is rather divided. There’s Marvel Studios, who recently feueded with the TV/comics people over the movies and parted ways. Now we even see there is some sort of divide within Marvel TV? Perhaps the contract with Netflix and/or ABC states the characters can’t appear elsewhere?

I’m surprised Disney is actually letting this happen within Marvel — that everything is so divided — which is opposite what Warner Bros. and DC are doing (Geoff Johns is the glue that binds DC). Marvel Studios also launched their own social networks and did away with their comic book opening for their movies, instead using film footage. Honestly, I can’t help but wonder if Marvel Studios will start to make more original stories (similar to Guardians of the Galaxy) and adapt less of the Marvel Comics, especially considering a lot of the comic book stories from the past 10-20 years were headed by the Marvel TV guys. With Marvel Studios being such a success (and TV/Comics no so much), I wouldn’t mind if Disney would bring everything at Marvel under Feige’s fold.

You know what they say about a house divided, right, Bob Iger?

Charlie Hunnam & Alexander Skarsgard Were Up To Play Thor

It’s learned Chris Hemsworth wasn’t the only actor up to play Thor for Marvel Studios.

Thor writer Zack Stentz appeared on the Kevin Smith Fatman On Batman podcast and discussed writing Thor where he let it be known Charlie Hunnam and Alexander Skarsgard were up to play the son of Odin.

“…Thor. It’s like [writing] big blond guy. It could have been one of eight big blond guys,” Stentz said. “I was there. I was like, ‘Is that Alex Skarsgard? Is that the Sons of Anarchy guy?”

Kevin Smith then asked if Thor might have been Alexander Skarsgard.

“Yeah. Those were the other two main candidates who are Charlie Hunnam and  Skarsard,” Stentz said. “I love those guys, but I think Hemsworth was the right choice. Just that frickin’ charm he brought.”

Stentz also let it be known he and Ashely Miller were responsible for choosing to use Coulson (Clark Gregg) in Thor after Marvel told them Samuel L. Jackson wouldn’t be available due to the negotiations not working out. Stentz said they also chose to use Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye.

Another actor up to play Thor includes Tom Hiddleston, who we all know went on to play Loki.

It’s also been sad WB had created Justice League concept art a while back with Charlie Hunnam as The Flash.

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD Gets Renewed & Clark Gregg Offers Potential Spoiler

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD gets a fourth season as ABC has confirmed a renewal for this coming Fall.

The series returns with new episodes on Tuesday, and Clark Gregg recently offered a potential big turn for Phil Coulson.

“I don’t think he comes back with any easy answer. I think in the moment, it felt like the only course of action possible to him,” Clark Gregg told TV Guide about Coulson’s decision to kill Agent Ward in the mid-season finale. “I don’t think he’s going to know for some time if this was a terrible mistake that changes him and maybe turns him into a super-villain – it becomes, really, a show about a team run by a super-villain – or not.”

While Coulson may or may not become a super villain, the fate of Agent Ward was recently revealed.

Agents Of SHIELD airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9pm ET.

Inhumans Movie To Be Separate From Agents Of SHIELD

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23685:]]

It’s learned the Inhumans movie more than likely will not be connected to Agents of SHIELD.

Clark Gregg spoke with Digital Spy and offered the Inhumans film will be its own thing.

The Inhumans movie I suspect will be its own cinematic version. That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there’ll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It’d be too bad if that was wasted.

What’s kind of necessary for the show to work is that it is its own thing and it’s not dependant upon those crossovers. They’re just fun stuff that happens once in a while.

They destroy the organisation our show is named after and we have to deal with that! I’ll be interested to see how it evolves, that crossover stuff.

The news shouldn’t be all that surprising as the Marvel movies have yet to mention Agents Of SHIELD. In addition, Kevin Feige recently parted ways with the people that run Marvel TV over creative differences.

It’s even been said Marvel Studios may scrap the Inhumans movie altogether.

Inhumans has a July 12, 2019 release; Vin Diesel appears to be vying for the role of Black Bolt and has recommended Rose Leslie for a role.

Joss Whedon Jokes Agents Of SHIELD Isn’t Real & Again Says Coulson Is Dead

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20247:]]

Coulson Lives!

Coulson’s Dead!

One way of getting around the lackluster reception of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is to simply state it never existed in the first place.

That’s what Joss Whedon says (well not the lackluster part) as Whedon states again that Coulson is dead.

This time, Whedon tells IGN the following – offering Agents Of SHIELD is just a Coulson fever dream:

Yeah he’s dead. The entire television series is just a fever dream. It’s a Jacob’s Ladder moment he’s having at the point of death, but we don’t give that away until after season seven. And there’s a snow globe. Now I’ve given it away. Bollocks!

Whedon continues with mention that while Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are a part of the same shared universe, essentially they are separate.

It’s a weird little yes and no. As far as I’m concerned in the films, yes he’s dead. In terms of the narrative of these guys [The Avengers] his loss was very important. When I created the television show, it was sort of on the understanding that this can work and we can do it with integrity, but these Avengers movies are for people to see the Avengers movies and nothing else. And it would neither make sense nor be useful to say ‘Oh and by the way remember me? I died!’”

Whedon also went on to talk about how he thinks Marvel Studios was annoyed by Marvel TV and makes a remark about the events from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“I think actually the movie people were a little bit cross about the TV show” Whedon revealed. “They were sort of like ‘Well you can have this but not this. And this but not that.’ It’s complicated enough as it is without me adding another layer of complication. We also created a TV show called S.H.I.E.L.D. right before they made a movie where they destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D.. So everybody’s having a GREAT time!”

Marvel TV is also launching two new series for ABC with one being a SHIELD spinoff featuring Adrianne Palicki, and the other is rumored to possibly feature the new Marvel Comics muslim character who took over the Ms. Marvel codename.

Joss Whedon Still Considers Coulson Dead

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20189:]]

Coulson Lives!

Well, not according to director Joss Whedon who was responsible for killing off Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers movie. Speaking with the UK’s mentalfloss.com, Whedon lets it be known that Marvel TV was responsible for bringing back Coulson, but almost seems to say that the movies and TV have different continuity, and that he still considers Coulson as being dead.

Whedon says Marvel TV brought Coulson back.

A lot of people come back in The Winter Soldier. It’s a grand Marvel tradition. Bucky was supposed to die. And the Coulson thing was, I think, a little anomalous just because that really came from the television division, which is sort of considered to be its own subsection of the Marvel universe.

Whedon says for the continuity of the movies, Coulson is still considered dead:

As far as the fiction of the movies, Coulson is dead.

Says he wasn’t happy that Coulson came back as it takes away from The Avengers movie:

But I have to say, watching the first one with my kids—I had not watched the first one since it came out—and then watching it with my kids and watching Coulson die but [thinking], “Yeah, but I know that he kind of isn’t,” it did take some of the punch out of it for me. Of course, I spent a lot of time making sure he didn’t.

Whedon offers there is no reference to Coulson’s death in Avengers 2:

And at the time it seemed inoffensive, as long as it wasn’t referenced in the second movie, which it isn’t.

Whedon feels that without death or loss during these great conflicts, they don’t come off as being real or sincere:

There’s a thing where you can do that so many times and there’s nothing at stake. But it’s difficult because you’re living in franchise world—not just Marvel, but in most big films—where you can’t kill anyone, or anybody significant. And now I find myself with a huge crew of people and, although I’m not as bloodthirsty as some people like to pretend, I think it’s disingenuous to say we’re going to fight this great battle, but there’s not going to be any loss.

Whedon does offer he is fine with it and is happy to leave it up to the fans:

So my feeling in these situations with Marvel is that if somebody has to be placed on the altar and sacrificed, I’ll let you guys decide if they stay there.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” has a May 1st release.
