In somewhat of a surprise, it is revealed that Clark Gregg will be back for Agents of SHIELD Season 6, but the kicker is, not as Phil Coulson, but as a mystery character.
“The Coulson role and persona, though always evolving and always having new parts of him revealed to me by our writers, became a very familiar skin,” Gregg told Marvel in the following video. “And to change all that and find myself playing another very mysterious person who is not Phil Coulson and the mystery of who that person is and why he looks like that is something that they’ve done groundbreaking, wild stuff with that I’m really lucky to play.”
Lots of theories are flying that maybe Clark Gregg is set to play a Skrull or another alien of some sort. The actor is returning for the Captain Marvel movie, which does feature the shape-shifting Skrulls, so maybe the green-skinned reptilian aliens will also be a part of the new season of Agents of SHIELD when it returns this Summer.
