JJ Abrams Broke His Back Trying To Help Harrison Ford On Star Wars Set

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21579:]]

When Star Wars: The Force Awakens was filming, an accident occurred on set with the door of the Millennium Falcon crushing and injuring Harrison Ford.

Now it’s learned that Ford wasn’t the only casualty.

Director J.J. Abrams recently appeared on Jon Stewart where Stewart asked Abrams about the most recent Ford incident involving the air place crash. Abrams compared Ford to being a real life Marvel hero.

“The guy is like a real-life super hero,” Abrams said. “He should have the Marvel logo above his name.”

Abrams then recalled the Star Wars accident with Ford and the Millennium Falcon and let it be known he actually broke his back while attempting to help Ford.

“We actually were filming this scene and there was an accident on set. There was this hydraulic door that went down. He was pushed down and his ankle goes ninety degrees. He’s down there and he’s toughing it out. He’s a super human being. He’s literally lying there making jokes,” Abrams said. “This door had gone down, and I’m trying to help lift it up – because that’s the kind of guy I am. I’m trying to lift up this door and I feel this pop in my back. I’m like ‘Uh, that’s weird.’”

Abrams ended up going to the doctor a couple days later.

“[The Doctor] goes, ‘Oh you have a broken back,’” Abrams said. “I broke my L4 trying to lift this door.”

It turns out Abrams actually had to wear the brace longer than it took for Ford’s ankle to heal.

“A few months later I’m wearing this really silly back brace under my shirt. No one knows. I didn’t tell anyone, right. So I have this back brace on,” Abrams said. “Harrison Ford, from across the stage, sprints at me faster than I will ever run, and he’s like ‘hi, JJ,’ and I’m like ‘hi, Harrison ford,’ – oh, it hurts to talk that way – so I felt like the most nebbishy Jewish director ever.”

Abrams and Stewart continue with talk of how Ford is more than human.

“He’s a Miracle Man, and I’m like, ‘Excuse me, Mr. Darth Vader, could you be more evil?’”  Abrams said.

Bruce Boxleitner Done With Tron; Doesn’t Want Reboots

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21569:]]

The third Tron movie was all set to start production this Fall, but then Disney abruptly cancelled the movie.

It’s not exactly known why Disney chose to cancel Tron 3, but it’s been said Disney may have gotten cold feet because of the poor reception to Tomorrowland, and that Disney wants to concentrate on their animated movies and big tentpole films.

Now Bruce Boxleitner, who starred in the two Tron movies as well as voiced his character in the Tron: Uprising animated series and the Tron 2.0 video game, has stated he is done with the franchise.

SlashFilm caught up with the actor at the recent Television Critics Association press event and asked if Disney decided to greenlight a third Tron, would he be back.

“I don’t really care anymore,” Boxleitner replied. “I’m done with it. I’ve moved on. I hate to say that but it’s been too up and down for me. I would rather not just keep going.”

Likewise, Boxleitner continued with mentioned he doesn’t want to be involved in reboots.

“I don’t want to repeat my career anymore,” he said. “That’d be like, ‘Let’s reboot Scarecrow and Mrs. King.’ No, I’m not interested. Or Babylon 5.”

Boxleitner continues with mention he thinks Disney doesn’t want to do science-fiction and wants to focus on movies such as Star Wars and Marvel.

“Obviously there’s something politically within but I know that they were in preproduction heavily. I know that the options for Olivia [Wilde] and Garrett [Hedlund] were picked up. That was all public knowledge, [reported in] The Hollywood Reporter. I’ve got a feeling they’re going to play it safe with their old [formula]. I mean, Tim Burton’s doing Dumbo. They’re going to make live-action out of their old animated classics. Apparently, that was successful. They also have Star Wars. Let’s not neglect that, and Marvel. Maybe they just felt they had enough of that sci-fi. We were the only real science fiction. Star Wars is fantasy, sword and sorcery fantasy with a spaceship. Marvel is superhero comics. Star Wars, yes, is science fiction. There’s fantasy elements as well, but Marvel is not. It’s comic books. It’s really not sci-fi. It’s not thinking science fiction. Maybe they decided they don’t want to do science fiction.”

Liam Neeson Spotted With Drastic Weight Loss Raising Concerns

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21514:]]

Liam Neeson, the action star behind the likes of Star Wars and Taken, has recently been spotted in NYC looking rather frail after appearing to have lost a significant amount of weight.

Images popped up online of the actor where the 63-year-old actor has been described as almost unrecognizable.

It’s unknown what precipated the weight loss – whether it’s for a new role or health related – but fans have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns.

Checking out the actor’s iMDB page, it doesn’t seem as if Neeson has anything in the pipeline, and the Irish-born actor did recently reveal he is done with the Taken franchise, so maybe Liam Neeson doesn’t necessarily need to keep up with his “action star” appearance — hopefully it’s not health related.

Update: Liam Neeson’s spokesperson has stated “he has never been healthier” and begins filming a new movie in September.

Mark Hamill Reacts To Amy Schumer Star Wars Images

“Got excited when I saw [the] Amy Schumer GQ Magazine pics and thought she was just cast in [Star Wars: Episode] 8!” Hamill tweeted. “We should be so lucky.”

The reaction to the Amy Schumer images caused Disney to officially deny they approved the pics, but we see Hamill takes it rather lightly.

Amy Schumer Upsets Star Wars Fans Causing Disney To Respond

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21410:]]

The latest issue of GQ Magazine features comic actress Amy Schumer depicted in various sexual poses with Star Wars characters.

Schumer, who wrote and is currently starring in Trainwreck, is shown with C3PO’s finger in her mouth on the cover of the magazine as well as inside with a lightsaber in her mouth and naked in bed with R2-D2 and C3PO.

Fans have taken to Twitter to voice their dissent, which has caused Disney to officially respond.

“I can’t believe Disney and Star Wars are allowing GQ Magazine to do this DISTASTEFUL Star Wars spread. Shame on all of you,” one Star Wars fans tweeted.

It turns out, Disney LucasFilm didn’t approve of the photo shoot.

“Lucasfilm and Disney did not authorize, participate in or condone the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner,” the official Star Wars Twitter account replied.

Apparently, GQ was able to do the Amy Schumer Star Wars photo shoot without permission because it’s considered a parody, which is allowed by copyright law.

Young Han Solo Star Wars Movie In Development

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21259:]]

Update: StarWars.com has confirmed Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will helm a Han Solo Star Wars anthology movie (read the official announcment below).

It’s being reported plans are underway for a Star Wars spinoff movie featuring a young Han Solo.

THR reports Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, the duo behind The LEGO Movie and the Jump Street movies, will be writing, directing and producing the Han Solo Star Wars anthology movie for Disney.

It’s noted this is a new Star Wars project and not the one that was to have been directed by Josh Trank, who recently parted ways with Disney. According to the report, Trank’s Star Wars movie is the origin story for Boba Fett and is still searching for a director.

It’s noted that Miller and Lord were to direct The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, but it’s stated that is likely off the table as is the third Jump Street movie. It’s is mentioned the duo could still stay on as writers and/or producers on both The Flash and another Jump Street.

The planned animated Spider-Man movie at Sony from Lord and Miller may still be intact as they are only set to write a treatment for the story and produce.

It’s further said Miller and Lord will still be involved in the LEGO movie franchise, but in what capacity is unclear.

A young Han Solo Star Wars project has been rumored for some time, with Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul said to be up for the role at one time.

Update:

Info:

CHRISTOPHER MILLER AND PHIL LORD TO HELM HAN SOLO ANTHOLOGY FILM

THE DUO BEHIND THE LEGO MOVIE WILL DIRECT AN EARLY TALE OF THE SMUGGLER-TURNED-HERO, WITH A SCREENPLAY BY LAWRENCE AND JON KASDAN.

The next adventure in the Anthology series of Star Wars films will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, whose credits include the critically acclaimed The LEGO Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, as well as 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. Among the most sought-after filmmakers working today, the two have proven a formidable duo on the multiple films they’ve collaborated on and are looking forward to applying their unique creative chemistry to the Star Wars universe.

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

Lawrence Kasdan, the writer and director known for Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, and Grand Canyon, is familiar to Star Wars fans for having co-written the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. His son Jon Kasdan wrote and directed The First Time, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and In the Land of Women, as well as writing for the television series Freaks and Geeks and Dawson’s Creek.

We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe,” said the Kasdans. “They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.”

Kathleen Kennedy, who will be producing, says she can’t wait to discover what’s in store from these two extraordinary teams of directors and writers.

“It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han’s story.”

Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the film will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra.

Now Disney Withholds New Star Wars Footage From Comic-Con

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21242:]]

Not only is Disney holding back Marvel Studios from appearing at Comic-Con, but now it’s learned there will be no new Star Wars footage.

Regarding Marvel Studios, while Kevin Feige tried to explain Marvel didn’t have anything to show off (“the timing wasn’t right”), Marvel could have easily done something for Ant-Man, which opens next week, as well as could have featured new Spider-Man Tom Holland and probably could have done something for Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange if they really wanted to.

At least Disney will have a Star Wars panel, but EW.com reports no new trailers, clips or footage will be shown.

What is stated to be coming at Comic-Con from Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a behind-the-scenes look at the film in addition to J.J. Abrams, Disney LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy and some members of the cast apeparing from the movie.

It’s assumed Disney is saving future Marvel Studios news for August’s Disney D23 Expo, and now it’s likely new Star Wars footage may debut then.

EW’s report does note a new Star Wars trailer is due out in the Fall.

The Star Wars Comic-Con panel takes place this Friday.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Boba Fett & Han Solo Star Wars TV Series Rumored With Michelle MacLaren

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21095:]]

The latest Star Wars rumor to hit the net is in regards to the Star Wars: Underworld TV series that was at one time in development with 50 scripts written for the potential series.

A new blog, Screen Wire, was just launched by some dude named Shane who is stating Michelle MacLaren is up to direct the Star Wars: Underworld TV series.

According to the rumor, while MacLaren’s name has surfaced for a Star Wars spinoff, it’s actually for a Star Wars TV series that will feature Boba Fett and Han Solo.

It’s also said the other Star Wars rumors surrounding a Star Wars spinoff movie about Boba Fett may be incorrect as the details are actually for the Star Wars TV series.

It’s also not clear whether or not the “Star Wars: Underworld” title will still be used as well as the 50 scripts, or if Disney will just reboot.

Michelle MacLaren recent departed Wonder Woman at Warner Bros. and is known for her TV work on Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

Interestingly enough, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul has been rumored to be playing a young Han Solo — perhaps at MacLaren’s request?
