Fox Wants To Make The Neill Blomkamp Alien Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19157:]]

Neill Blomkamp, director on District 9, Elysium and the upcoming Chappie, previously released concept art for an Alien movie he wants to make.

Now it’s learned that the Alien movie actually might get made as Fox Studios is ready, but things are just waiting on Blomkamp.

Speaking with UproxxBlomkamp says he has been thinking of the Alien idea while filming Chappie and bounced ideas off of Sigourney Weaver.

Basically, what happened was, when Chappie got heavily into post-production, I could take my foot off the gas a bit. I was thinking about what I wanted to do next and I’ve been wanting to make an Alien film for like years and years.

Speaking to Sigourney Weaver, when we were doing Chappie, she set off a bunch of thoughts in my head — I had come up with an idea that didn’t have Sigourney, it was a different idea. But I spent all of the shooting time with her, it was like, holy shit, that could actually be really interesting. When I came back to Vancouver, I had an entire year to work onChappie. And when I wasn’t needed in the edit, I could think about Alien. So, I basically developed an entire movie and I did all of this artwork as well.

Blomkamp continues with mention that Fox really wants it done, and mentions what is holding up the process is that he doesn’t like to do franchise movies.

Me. I’m the problem. Fox, they would make it. Like, tomorrow. They would make it.

Chappie Gets R-Rating

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19156:]]

Possibly to the the surprise of some, Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie movie gets an R-rating.

The trailers revealed what looked to be more of a PG-13 rating as we see what looks to be a friendly robot; however, we do see Chappie take up arms, and more than likely the film will have some vulgar language.

Blomkamp’s previous films, District 9 and Elysium, were rated R as well, so maybe it’s not all that much of a surprise.

The good news is that if you thought Chappie was more of a kids movie due to the posters and trailers, it’s obviously not.

Amazon’s Box Office Mojo reporte the rating.

Chappie has a March 6, 2015 release starring Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja, Yolandi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo and BrandonAuret.

Synopsis:

After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.

Dwayne Johnson Talks Black Adam & Fighting Batman & Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19150:]]

Dwayne Johnson is featured in the next issue of Total Film magazine where he talks about playing Black Adam in Shazam and also about Batman vs. Superman.

“I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero,” Johnson says. “It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilised them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.”

Johnson previously made comments about Shazam having more freedom and being independent of the other DC movies, but here he does say they are all connected.

“It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humour.”

Shazam has a 2019 release date.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and — armed with a pumpkin and a few mice — changes Cinderella’s life forever.

Dylan O’Brien & Logan Lerman Eyed For New Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19145:]]

With Sony and Marvel casting a new Spider-Man, now it’s said Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman are eyed for the role.

Variety reports Sony has yet to approach any actors, but O’Brien and Lerman are among the list of actors that would play the new Spider-Man in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and the standalone Sony film.

It’s also said Sony needs to decide if they will even go with the classic Spider-Man and Peter Parker version or decide to go with the Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales, whose parents are African American and Puerto Rican.

According to the report, Sony is also seeking a new director, as Marc Webb is out, before finding the new Spider-Man.

Further information about the new Spider-Man again mentions Spider-Man set in Midtown High School, with it said to “spend more time in the setting and explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom. Midtown is a major setting in the comicbooks, and Peter Parker also returns to the school to become a science teacher in storylines.”

Dylan O’Brien, known for Maze Runner and Teen Wolf, did state he would be interested in playing Spider-Man in an older interview: “…kinda nerdy dude in high school, then he gets to be a superhero running around new york city, doing spider webs and stuff… that’s basically my entire dream as a human being.. i like wanna be Peter Parker.”

Likewise, Logan Lerman, known for Fury and Percy Jackson, was up for Spider-Man prior to Andrew Garfield getting the role: “There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into. It’s [Spider-man] one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series. I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it.”

Both O’Brien and Lerman were on our Five Potential Actors For The New Spider-Man list.

Captain America: Civil War has a May 6, 2016 release date; the new Spider-Man is set for July 28, 2017.

Will Smith & Margot Robbie Talk Suicide Squad’s Rick Flagg

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19130:]]

Tom Hardy was originally set to play Rick Flagg in the David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad movie; however, Hardy left the project.

Then it was said Jake Gyllenhaal passed as well, and the current rumors are stating Karl Urban is up for the role.

Now USA Today catches up with Will Smith and Margot Robbie on the set of their latest movie Focus.

“We’ve still got to get it right, Smith said.

“This happens all the time,” Robbie added. “People act like, ‘Oh my god, the movie must be ending!’ It’s just the deal with movies.” [Not to mention] a lot of the characters haven’t been portrayed before so it’s a pretty big undertaking. And it’s a big undertaking for the people who are going to play the characters who have been played, like the Joker (to be played by Jared Leto). It’s big shoes to fill.”

“[David Ayer] turned the screenplay in before Christmas,” Smith continued. “What happens is Hollywood shuts down. But he was still working and he wanted to (start shooting) April 13th. So it takes a couple weeks to gear back up at the top of the year and people have taken (other) movies. He’s moving really quickly.”

Robbie agrees: “It’s almost impossible to get a movie all together when there are two main cast members, let alone an ensemble cast with everyone’s schedules. It’s crazy if it works out.”

“Suicide Squad” has an August 6, 2016 release directed by David Ayer starring Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Viola Davis is said to be up for Amanda Waller.

Kevin Feige Not Involved With Spider-Man Spinoffs: New Spidey In High School

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19126:]]

Last night saw the news of Spider-Man being a part of the Marvel movie universe with the news Spidey set to appear first in a Marvel Studios movie followed by a Sony solo film.

The news also made mention that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige would be onboard the new Spider-Man as a producer.

Now details regarding the Sony and Marvel deal have apparently come to light as Variety offers the following details:

It’s actually said to be a “free” deal as Marvel Studios won’t have to pay Sony for the use of Spider-Man in Captain America 3, an Avengers movie or any other film.

It’s also reported Marvel won’t be receiving a cut of the box office from Sony’s Spider-Man movies, and  also that Sony will not be getting anything for the Marvel movies.

It is said Marvel may benefit from the Sony Spider-Man films if the new Spider-Man movies hit certain box office milestones, with that deal being likened to more of a producer structure.

How the deal benefits both sides is that Spider-Man gives both Sony and Marvel a way to generate more exposure for their properties as Spider-Man is one of the biggest household superhero names.

The report also states that Spider-Man will be recast, and they are looking for a younger actor to play the role as Spider-Man will have his roots set in high school.

It’s further said that Kevin Feige will not be involved with the planned Spider-Man spinoffs, Sinister Six, Venom, and the female-centric Spider-Man spinoff, which are still on the table.

Captain America: Civil War has a May 6, 2016 release; the new Spider-Man movie is set for July 28, 2017.

Hugh Jackman Weighs In On Wolverine and Marvel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19121:]]

Last night saw Marvel announce Spider-Man will be a part of the MCU Universe first appearing in a Marvel Studios film before getting a new solo movie.

Now Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine for FOX, weighs in on Logan potentially joining the Marvel movie universe (via Geek.com).

There’s so many forces at play there, man, beyond what anyone would want. The thing I’ve always loved about the comic-book world is how the fun thing was how a writer of a comic book could just pull all these characters together and what became a Friday-night discussion of ‘it would be cool to see Batman fight Wolverine’ and bang, Monday morning they’re working on it, you know. But that’s an idealized world.

As Jackman seemingly says, any chance of Wolverine being a part of some big Marvel crossover obviously wouldn’t be up to him, but the “many forces at play,” – meaning the corporate executives.

Previous comments made by Jackman included he wanted to kick Robert Downey Jr.’s ass on the big screen; he said he wanted to join the Avengers and battle the Hulk, and also was optimistic about there being a shared movie universe.

Hugh Jackman is thought to be featured as Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse and in a sequel to The Wolverine which might see Logan teaming up with Patrick Stewart and Professor X.

Jackman will also be featured in Chappie on March 6th.

Update: Watch Hugh Jackman’s reaction to hearing the news about Spider-Man for the first time.

J.K. Simmons Wants To Return To Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19107:]]

With Marvel recently announcing a new Spider-Man, cast announcements will eventually be forthcoming.

While it appears as if the Sony/Marvel deal will reboot Spider-Man, actor J.K. Simmons says he wouldn’t mind reprising as J.Jonah Jameson, editor of the Daily Planet.

In an interview on Howard Stern that took place at the end of January, Simmons actually said he heard something is going on.

Stern mentions how great of an actor Simmons is, who has been “entertaining us for years,” as well as states Spider-Man is one of the greatest movies ever made. Robin then interjects with mention, “There were three of those” with Howard adding, “Are we doing another one?”

“I just heard that’s a possibility,” Simmons replied.

Stern then flat out asks, “Would you do it?”

“Absolutely,” says Simmons.

J.K. Simmons played J.J Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies to much critical and fan acclaim.

Simmons will be starring in the upcoming Terminator: Genisys movie as well as King Kong: Skull Island.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19105:]]

Moments ago Marvel announced Spider-Man will be featured in the MCU.

The big question on everybody’s mind is whether or not Andrew Garfield will return as the Amazing Spider-Man.

The official press release made no mention of Andrew Garfield and did state:  “the new Spider-Man.”

In addition, no mention was made of director Marc Webb or producer Avi Arad.

Now a reporter for The Wrap is stating Andrew Garfield is out and a new actor will be cast as Spider-Man.

“CONFIRMED: Andrew Garfield is NO LONGER Spider-Man,” Linda Ge tweeted. “Someone new will be cast. First appearance in MCU, then solo film.”

Likewise, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal also says Andrew Garfield will not be Spider-Man and adds Sinister Six will not be coming out next year.

“Andrew Garfield will not be in any more Spider-Man movies. Time to cast a new web-slinger!” Ben Fritz tweeted. “Sony will NOT release Sinister Six in Nov 2016, source says. Sony delaying, rethinking, but still developing in light of new deal.”

Marvel and Sony have given the new Spider-Man movie a July 28, 2017 release date.

Update: It’s now said Sinister Six is delayed.

It’s official! Spider-Man is back at Marvel.

After months of rumors, Marvel.com has announced Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige will produce the next Spider-Man movie with Amy Pascal, who recently stepped down as Sony Pictures co-chairman to be a part of a new Sony production venture.

Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel Studios film (thought to be Captain America: Civil War, though Avengers 2 is a possibility) before getting a new Spider-Man movie on July 28, 2017 (Update: new release date is July 7, 2017).

Here is the official information:

Marvel’s Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel’s world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: “Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”

“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man,” said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”

“Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future,” added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.
