Superman #38 Spoilers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19009:]]

Yesterday saw DC Comics reveal Superman’s new power: Super Flare.

Now Superman #38 is out today revealing the full story.

I’m actually surprised JMS didn’t think of this, but as a result of Superman using his Super Flare power, his cells are completely depleted of solar energy.

The kicker?

It takes 24 hours for his cells to recharge, which leaves Superman completely powerless aka a regular ol‘ human.

More spoilers from the issue include the Superman’s heat vision was a precursor to the new Super Flare ability; that using the Super Flare destroyed Superman’s New 52 costume, so Batman and Alfred create the new one, and Superman reveals his secret identity to Jimmy Olsen (via Newsarama).

Joker Coming To Gotham By End Of Season

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19003:]]

Gotham, with all its Batman connections, is currently the highest rated comic book series on TV.

Now it’s learned the most infamous Batman villain of all will be making an appearance of some sort by the end of the season.

“We’ve said you’re going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America — nobody wants to wait,” Gotham Executive Producer Bruo Heller tells TVGuide.com. “So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it — a little tap on the door.”

While we wait for the Joker, Gotham will focus on developing two Batman villains, Penguin and Riddler.

“Penguin [Robin Lord Taylor] was born a sociopath and was always going down this path one way or another,” Heller offers. “Nygma is someone who becomes the villain, and we see that journey begin in the second half of the season.”

Regarding Riddler, it’s hinted that Nygma may go bad as a result of a broken heart at the hands of Kristen Kringle, played by Chelsea Spack.

“What motivates people to do things is oftentimes love,” Spack says. “He is slowly starting to break through her defenses, but we take two steps forward and then one step back. It’s not smooth sailing for Edward Nygma. It’s complicated for her to have somebody’s feelings in her hand. It’s not as simple as rejecting somebody and having a clean conscience because she’s starting to realize how deeply he cares.”

Gotham airs Mondays at 8pm ET on FOX.

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern & Deadpool

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19002:]]

Ryan Reynolds latest movie, The Voices, hits February 6th.

With Reynolds doing press rounds for the film, he has also been talking Deadpool.

Ryan Reynolds previously stated they are doing Deadpool the right way and he hopes it’s R-rated.

Now Reynolds compares working on the Green Lantern movie to Deadpool in that when he started GL, there wasn’t even a script, but for Deadpool, it’s already ready and leaked online (via Yahoo).

Well, script. When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist. I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different on this one.

We’ve had a script for three years. The script got leaked, and people even loved that. That says a lot — if you can create a script around a comic-book character that is directly within the canon of the character and be embraced. That’s a huge step in the right direction. I’ve since learned that a lot of superhero movies don’t really have a fully functioning draft of the screenplay ready until they’re already well into shooting.

Reynolds also lets it be known the reason Deadpool was recently green lit was because of the leaked Deadpool footage.

I was excited, because you can look back at an email chain from all of us, the core group involved in Deadpool, saying “We should leak this, f—-,” like three years ago. Saying, “Hey, if this thing is going to stagnate, one of us should just say ‘Whoops, I slipped it online by accident.’” And nobody seemed to want to nut up and do that, myself included. Someone did it for us, years later, when we all completely assumed it was dead in the water.

Now, we get to make the movie. We don’t get to make it with the budget of most superhero movies, but we get to make it the way we want to make it, so that’s even more exciting than having a catered lunch.

Deadpool has a February 12, 2016 release.

Andy Serkis Confirmed As Klaw For The Avengers 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19001:]]

It’s finally confirmed what everybody has been speculating: Andy Serkis is playing Ulysses Klaw in The Avengers 2.

Marvel provided their Disney fan site, Stitchkingdom, an official description of the recent Serkis image stating the character is Ulysses Klaw.

With Serkis confirmed as Klaw, it’s probably more than likely The Avengers 2 will reference Black Panther. In the comics, Klaw went to Wakanda to steal Vibranium and ended up killing Black Panther’s father.

It’s been our guess for a while that Chadwick Boseman will first appear in The Avengers 2 as T’Challa, and then in full costume as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, which follows Avengers 2 a year later.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as Vision, with James Spader as Ultron.

Synopsis:

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Todd McFarlane Reveals Spawn / Batman Crossover That Never Happened

Todd McFarlane recently took to his Facebook page to reveal art for a Spawn/Batman crossover that never happened.

Greg Capullo was going to be on art chores and even did a promo piece.

Check out the details:

Just like BIGFOOT…here’s that mysterious comic book creature, the Spawn – Batman crossover that NO ONE has EVER SEEN!!!!!

Years ago there was a deal for DC Comics and myself to do a cool Batman/Spawn cross-over book (for those not hip to comic lingo, that’s a book in which both characters are in the same issue). I to to have written and inked it, while a talented penciller, Greg Capullo, was going to draw it. for a variety of reasons (mostly on my shoulders) the book never got off the ground, but a few pages and promo pieces were done for it. Below is one such piece drawn by Greg and inked by myself.

*** This story is different than an earlier version of Spawn/Batman that Frank Miller wrote and I drew. ***

And in a bit of fate: Years later, Mr. Capullo would take over the artistic drawing reins for the caped crusader and he would be the next hot shot artist on DC Comics’ BATMAN comic! Which is usually at the top of the best selling comics each month (ably written by Scott Snyder).

Anyway, I came across this cool cover the other day and thought that it was too good not to share.

Enjoy.

Terry Brooks Talks Shannara TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18990:]]

Coming to MTV is the Shannara TV series which is an adaptation of the Terry Brooks fantasy novels.

Brooks recently answered a couple fan questions about the new series (via suvudu.com).

Difference between the book and the series?

The visuals will lend an astonishing new perspective to your imagining of the story – hopefully in a good way. Also, the writers are fleshing out and adding new material to the book, so that we have some new characters and some new plot lines for the series. This will be a change – again – from the book, but I think we all have to remember that a change of medium requires an understanding that each new effort is an adaptation of the old, not a paint by the numbers. I am way cool with the changes, and I find it interesting to imagine how I would have incorporated them in the book, had I thought to do so. But I think once you’ve done something, you should leave it alone. This is a different imagining, but one that I have kept watch over while it is being developed and which I very much approve.

Is WETA special effects involved (who did The Hobbit)?

WETA is not involved at the present time, although other [New Zealand] special effects companies are. This might change at a later date.

The first season of Shannara will be based on The Elfstones Of Shannara. Manu Bennet has been cast as Allanon, Austin Butler is playing Whil Ohmsford, Ivana Baquero is playing EretriaPoppy Drayton has been cast Amberle Elessedil, Aaron Jakubenko as Ander, and John Rhys-Davies is playing King Eventine.

Chris Evans won the bet, so Chris Pratt will be flying in to Boston dressed as Star-Lord, with Evans tweeting out he will be visiting the Seattle kids as well.

Now both Evans and Pratt have appeared on Jimmy Fallon as the three photobombed unsuspecting fans.

Watch it above.

Ryan Reynolds Hopes Deadpool Is R-Rated & More (Video)

We get more from Ryan Reynolds above talking Deadpool.

Reynolds previously stated they are doing Deadpool the right way, and now Reynolds talks briefly about a potential R-rating for the movie and also about director Tim Miller.

While Reynolds can’t say much, he offers a lot of testing is coming up, but he does have the following to say about Miller:

“[He’s] always been the right guy.  He’s always, you know, shown nothing but a fierce loyalty to the canon of Deadpool and that’s the thing you look for first and foremost, a guy that is always wanting to push a little bit farther.  And the advantage of doing a movie like this on a budget that is significantly less than any other kind of superhero movie is that you get to do things that you don’t get to do on other superhero movies so that’s what we’re most excited about.”

Regarding an R-rating for Deadpool, Reynolds doesn’t want to spoil anything, but does hope that is the case.

“I have no idea … I don’t want to spoil anything so we’ll see.  We hope.”

Deadpool has a February 12, 2016 release.

M. Night Shyamalan Still Hopes For An Unbreakable Sequel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18977:]]

Before comic book movies were all the rage, there was M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable (and X-Men four months prior).

Unbreakable was a realistic comic book movie that starred Bruce Willis as the “super” hero and Samuel L. Jackson as the “super” villain.

The movie made almost $250 million at the box office (X-Men made almost $300 million).

There has been sequel talk since the movie’s release, and now fifteen years later, M. Night Shyamalan says he would still like to do a second film.

Speaking with Collider, Shyamalan offered the following:

Is he still hoping for a sequel?

Yeah, I do sometimes.  I love those characters and I love that world.  Of course, the whole world makes comic book movies now.  At the time, it was completely novel.  I remember when I made it, Disney was literally like, “Comic books?!  There’s no market for comic books!”  That’s all they make now!  It was a hilarious conversation.  I remember it.  I was like, “Maybe you’re right.  Maybe nobody will come see comic book movies.”  They were like, “Those are people in little conventions who like comic books.”  And I was like, “But, I like comic books!”

It would be interested to see Unbreakable in the world of today:

Yeah.  But the beauty of the world of Unbreakable is that you’re playing it for reality.  It should never feel like a comic book movie.  It feels like a straight-up drama.  It’s real.  You’re confronting the possibility that comic book characters were based on people that were real.  That’s the premise, so the tone has to be super grounded.  It would be cool.
