Netflix “Skylanders Academy” TV Series On The Way

Activision Blizzard Studios Expands Pioneering Skylanders Franchise Into Television

New Animated Television Series “Skylanders Academy” to Debut on Netflix

Activision Blizzard, Inc. announced that ‘Skylanders Academy,’ the first production by Activision Blizzard Studios — its newly-created television and film studio — will premiere in Autumn 2016 on Netflix, the world’s leading internet television network.

“Over the last five years, millions of families around the world have welcomed Skylanders characters into their homes. Now, they’ll be able to watch their favourite characters come to life on Netflix,” said Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard. “We couldn’t have found a better home for ‘Skylanders Academy’ and look forward to sharing our extraordinary characters with Netflix audiences around the world.”

The series follows the heroic adventures of the Skylanders team, a group of heroes with unique elemental skills and personalities who travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers and showing the next wave of Academy cadets how to do things the “Skylander way.” Created by Toys For Bob, the $3 billion Skylanders franchise has sold through more than 250 million toys since pioneering the toys-to-life category in 2011, and earlier this month Activision revealed Skylanders Imaginators, the latest innovation in the franchise.

“‘Skylanders Academy’ gives us the opportunity to approach narrative storytelling with the same level of quality and excellence that millions of Skylanders fans have come to expect from the game,” said Activision Blizzard Studios Co-President Stacey Sher. “We’re inspired by our fans’ excitement for these characters and have worked hard to bring these characters to life with stories our fans will love.”

Activision Blizzard launched its studio last year to create original content based on the company’s intellectual property, and ‘Skylanders Academy’ is the first production by Sher and studio Co-President Nick van Dyk. The two-season Netflix partnership is another important step in Activision Blizzard’s strategy of enhancing its franchises and broadening their appeal.

Produced under the supervision of showrunner Eric Rogers (“Futurama”), ‘Skylanders Academy’ features the voices of Justin Long (“Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Ask Me Anything”) as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale (“Phineas and Ferb,” “High School Musical”) as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul”) as Eruptor and Norm MacDonald (“Saturday Night Live”) as Glumshanks. Additional voice talent includes The Diamond Minecart, Susan Sarandon, Daniel Wu, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz.

Sher and van Dyk are joined by Sander Schwartz, the Emmy award-winning producer of animated hits including “The Batman,” “The Aquabats! Super Show!” and “Justice League: The New Frontier,” as the show’s executive producers. “Skylanders Academy” is animated by the internationally acclaimed TeamTO studio in France.

“Activision Blizzard Studios’ enviable mission is to work with our extraordinary portfolio of franchise intellectual property and bring it to broader audiences on new platforms,” said van Dyk. “We’re excited to reach this strategic partnership and for the future of ‘Skylanders Academy.’”

Henry Rollins Auditioned For Negan In The Walking Dead

It’s learned that Henry Rollins was up to play Negan in The Walking Dead, with the part going to Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Rollins spoke with Forbes revealing the comic book version of Negan was based on his likeness and revealed details about the audition for the AMC series:

Since I didn’t get the part I can tell you this. I was up for the role of Negan because Charlie Adlard, who worked on the comic book, based that guy on me and so I was a shoo-in for an audition. The internet was wild with speculation because in the upcoming season they were going to introduce the character. A woman that works in my office put my name and the character’s name into an internet search and all this speculation came up. I went for the audition and there were five pages of really cool dialogue with all these curses and it was beautiful, but I didn’t get it. I later saw a photograph of the guy who did get it and he looks almost exactly like the comic book rendering. The woman at my office watched the episode where he turns up, the dialogue that I auditioned with was in the show and she said, ‘It should have been you.’ Obviously it wasn’t or this conversation would be very different but that happened. I had to sign one of those documents where you can’t talk about it but now it’s over and done with… so yeah, I was up for that part. I get great auditions, I auditioned for stuff like Narcos too, but rarely does anything come my way. What usually comes my way is a no audition thing like The Last Heist or He Never Died that the film’s writer, Jason Krawczyk, wrote with me in mind.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Gets Citizen Steel

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow is getting Citizen Steel.

Deadline reports Minority Report‘s Nick Zano is playing Dr. Nate Heywood and will be a series regular.

In the series, Citizen Steel is described as a historian whose grandfather was Commander Steel, a member of the Justice Society of America.

It’s further said: In the comics, “Nate becomes Steel/Citizen Steel, a former member of the Justice League of America. The producers of the CW series are being ambiguous whether Nate will walk in his grandfather’s super heroic footsteps but, given the superhero nature of the show, that appears almost certain.”

In addition to Nick Zano, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow will cast a second series regular.

Ciara Renee, who play Hawkgirl, left the show with the final episode of Season 1, and Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold will now be a recurring character on both The Flash and Legends next season.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 will return in the Fall on The CW.

Norman Reedus Says F’ Yeah To Playing Marvel’s Ghost Rider

Not only does Norman Reedus look bad ass riding his motorcycle on The Walking Dead, but Reedus is also starring in a new AMC series, Ride With Me, which sees Reedus exploring motorcycle culture.

So who better than Norman Reedus to play Ghost Rider as the rights to the character have recently returned to Marvel.

“Hell yeah. It would be a blast,” Reedus said about potentially playing Marvel’s Spirit of Vengeance.“Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? F–k yeah. I’m down.”

Nicholas Cage played Ghost Rider in two movies for Sony, with UpRoxx noting Reedus is a fan.

I’ve always been a fan of the Dan Ketch version myself, hopefully with Doctor Strange launching the supernatural side of Marvel, Ghost Rider will ride once again.

Stephen Amell Teases Arrow Season 5 & Villain Details Become Known

While Arrow Season 4 was uber disappointing, the good news is that the show sounds like it is going back to its roots with Season 5.

DC All Access caught up with Stephen Amell who offered:

The only thing that I can tease is that it’s only a villain we could do if we were in Season 5 of a show because it calls back to what has happened in yesteryear or yester-season as the case may be…

Of course everything is going to change. If you seen the finale, you know there is going to be a whole element for me professionally that we really haven’t seen yet, and we have been in this cycle of introducing shows for a couple of years now. Obviously Supergirl is coming to the network, but we don’t have to introduce Supergirl. I think we are going to focus a lot on just getting back to some of the stuff that Arrow does really well.

TV Line also has additional info on the villain of Arrow Season 5:

• It’s said the new villain will be loosely inspired by Idris Elba’s Wire drug kingpin Stringer Bell.

• The character is tentatively named “Anton Church,” described as: “a ruthless crime lord who sets out to fill the sizable void left by Damien Darhk and H.I.V.E.”

• The casting notice describes him as an “apex predator” who “cuts his way through the shadows” by taking down “the biggest threat first.”

• Stephen Amell also said the villain won’t have super powers.

Superman To Be Featured In Supergirl Season 2

I guess it works both ways…

With Superman dead in the DCEU, the Man of Steel will be introduced in Supergirl Season 2.

We’ve already seen glimpses of Superman in Supergirl, but it’s always been a blurred and real short appearance. Now THR reports The CW is currently casting a Superman different than Henry Cavill who will first appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl.

It’s further said Superman will first be seen visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City at the beginning of the series’ second season.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

I’m actually surprised WB is going ahead with this decision following the controversial casting of Ezra Miller as the DCEU Flash, as there has been lots of not only negative fan sentiments, but negative reaction from The CW actors as well. Don’t get me wrong, not that I think this is a bad thing at all. If anything, I am guessing Berlanti and Kreisberg’s version of Superman will come off a lot better than what Zack Snyder did with Superman in Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman. I’m also guessing The CW version of Superman will be a lot closer to the Christopher Reeve version, which all the fans know and love. Should be good. Glad they can at least get Superman right on TV.

She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens-to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.

An Emmy®, Golden Globe®and SAG® Award-winning actress, Gillian Anderson has long delighted audiences and critics alike with her versatile skills and classic beauty. Comfortable with any genre, from science fiction to period drama, Anderson will soon star in several prestigious projects on both stage and screen.

Anderson reprised her role as “Dana Scully” in the Fox cult-classic “The X-Files,” which premiered January, 2016. Anderson earned two Screen Actors Guild Awards, one Emmy® Award and one Golden Globe® Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series, and numerous nominations for her portrayal of Scully. She also recently appeared in the television mini-series “War and Peace” which aired this past January.

Anderson is currently in production on the third and final season of the critically acclaimed series “The Fall,” which will premiere this year.

Anderson reprised her role as “Blanche DuBois” in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York with the original cast from the London production. Anderson “[gave] the performance of her career,” as Blanche DuBois, according to The Telegraph.

Anderson is currently in production on the third and final season of the critically acclaimed series “The Fall,” which will premiere this year.

“A Dream of Ice,” the second novel in Anderson’s science fiction saga, was published by Simon & Schuster in December 2015. The first novel in the saga, “A Vision of Fire,” was released in October 2014. Anderson co-writes the thriller series with New York Times bestselling author Jeff Rovin. Her next novel, co-written with journalist and activist Jennifer Nadel, entitled “We – A Manifesto for Modern Women,” will be released by HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster on March 8, 2017.

Previous film credits include the Richie Metha-directed science-fiction mystery I’ll Follow You Down, Sandra Nettelbeck’s romance Last Love, the James Marsh-directed thriller Shadow Dancer, L’Enfant d’en Haut (Sister), the second film directed and written by Ursula Meier and the 2011 British action comedy hit Johnny English Reborn. American Gods has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Tom Cavanagh Teases He’s Zoom For The Flash Season 3?

Will the man with the yellow suit become the man with the black suit in The Flash Season 3?

Tom Cavanagh played the Reverse Flash in Season 1, and now it’s possible he may be suiting up as a version of Zoom for The Flash Season 3.

Cavanagh posted the following image of Zoom on his Instagram account teasing, “Looking for work,” and included hashtags for The Flash and Zoom.

It’s possible due to the events in The Flash Season 2 finale that the timeline is all messed up. Perhaps Barry never opened the portal to Earth-2? Maybe a different Earth where Cavanagh’s character is actually Zoom?

Many fans think The Flash Season 3 will be a version of The Flashpoint Paradox from the comics. More than a few are also hoping it affects Arrow Season 5 as well. We can also throw in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

First Look At Legion TV Series

Marvel revealed a first look at Dan Stevens as David Haller in the FX Legion TV series.

The 8-episode first season will premiere in 2017.

Info:

FX Networks has ordered the first season of “Legion,” the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. Production on the eight-episode first season will begin this summer in Vancouver and the new series from FX Productions and Marvel Television will debut on FX in early 2017.

“We’ve come to expect excellence from Noah Hawley and with ‘Legion’ he has delivered another major creative achievement,” said Grad. “Just as he did in reimagining ‘Fargo,’ he is bringing an entirely new aesthetic and sensibility to the enormously popular and richly represented X-Men world. The pilot episode is stunning, driven by incredible performances from Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, Rachel Keller and the rest of the cast. We join our producing partners at Marvel in congratulating the creative team for what they’ve accomplished and are as excited as the fans for the premiere of ‘Legion’s’ first season.”

“Marvel Television is thrilled to not only have our first partnership with FX go to series, but working with the enormously talented Noah Hawley makes it even better,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, “From the first time we heard Noah’s vision to his exceptional script and cast through the extraordinary filming of the pilot, we knew the series would  be incredible.”

“Legion” introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Dan Stevens (“The Guest”), Rachel Keller (“Fargo”), Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”) and Jean Smart (“Fargo”) star in “Legion.”

Noah Hawley (“Fargo”) will serve as an Executive Producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Superman Returns”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Martian”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”), Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and John Cameron (“Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski”). “Legion” is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the Executive Producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® -winning FX limited series “Fargo.”

“Legion” will be produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FXP handling the physical production.

Stephen Amell Hints Green Arrow Is Headed To The DC Movie Universe Minus Him

Will see see a different Green Arrow in the DCEU than on TV?

It’s definitely possible, especially considering Zack Snyder cast a different actor for the Justice League movie Flash.

And it’s already known the Arrow Suicide Squad characters, and most likely Black Canary, were killed off to pave way for the characters to appear in the DC movies.

Now while appearing on Larry King, Arrow star Stephen Amell seemingly hints the same path might be set for his character as well.

Stephen Amell makes it known there are no present plans for Green Arrow in the DC movie universe, but says if there were, they probably wouldn’t include him. Amell then makes note “but things change,” which obviously suggests Green Arrow may eventually appear on the silver screen at some point minus his involvement.

Watch the video below for yourself especially paying attention to that last remark, “but things change,” that comes of rather skeptical.

Here’s the text:

“Well, I mean it has become easier to take properties on television and turn them into films, but I don’t know, those are things that exist out…” Amell said, with Larry King interrupting that Grant Gustin wasn’t cast as the movie Flash.

“No. The cinematic universe and the television universe are separate,” Amell responded.

Larry King then remarked that Amell might not be cast if there was a movie.

“I might not be. I’ve spoken with people within DC, and they said there’s no plan to bring the Green Arrow character to the cinematic universe,’  Amell said, and then added, with a seemingly skeptical, “But things change.”

It should be noted Arrow is returning for a Season 5, so it’s not like the series is getting cancelled. Similar to The Flash TV series, it’s possible both the TV and movie versions could run concurrently; however, would Stephen Amell be down with that and another actor playing the role of Oliver Queen and Green Arrow?

Stephen Amell Responds To Being Called An F’n Idiot Over Arrow Season 4

It might be a good thing that Memorial Day weekend is here, so we can all have a few Stone Colds and let loose some steam.

This past week has seen the internet become a powder keg due to various events, including Captain America and even the Arrow Season 4 finale, which saw Oliver’s friends leave except for Felicity, who many fans can’t stand (it probably didn’t help that Felicity “told the fans” she isn’t going anywhere).

A fan took to Stephen Amell’s Facebook page to blast the actor for reported hypocritical remarks, which has caused Amell to respond.

Amell’s remarks/meme:

The fan’s response to those remarks:

Amell with all due respect this is hypocritical and asinine at it’s best, I’ve watched Arrow since it’s pilot, watched countless reruns on Netflix and have defended the show when nobody or very few of the fans would, then you say the ONE thing that’s killed this show and that the ONE thing fans have hated since S3 we have to LIKE in order to be fans of the show? Or just to watch Arrow? Sorry Sir but you’re a f–king idiot

Stephen Amell’s response:

I disagree. For starters, I wasn’t responding to the dislike of one particular thing on the show. I was discussing one platform and how anonymity makes people cyber brave. You don’t have to like or dislike any one thing to be a fan of the show. But some of the criticism and vitriol towards fictional characters and the actual people who play them is comically outsized. I do enjoy an apology though before being called a fucking idiot. And because you put your name on it… I give it serious consideration. Hope you can see my comments in the broader context Jacob.

First Look At The Flash Season 2 Finale Spoilers With Comments

Spoilers follow for the Season 2 finale of The Flash.

Anybody see that coming?

While many guessed the identity of the man in the iron mask, I bet many of you (me included!) didn’t forsee what happened at the end with Barry time travelling.

It seems The Flash created the Flashpoint Paradox!

The man in the iron mask is revealed to be none other than the real Jay Garrick (Zoom just borrowed his name for a time) from Earth-3, played by John Wesley Shipp. We see John Wesley Shipp as the Jay Garrick Flash — helmet and all! I thought it was great!

EW.com revealed first look images as well as an interview with Shipp, and the good news is this isn’t the last we have seen of Garrick. Shipp confirms in the interview he will be back for The Flash Season 3:

Yes. I’ve been given permission to say that yes, they have all kinds of exciting and interesting plans for me, that are interesting not only in the context of the storyline, but they continue to spin out, which will be very challenging for me as an actor. That’s all I’m allowed to say about that. But yes, I will be back next season.

Shipp also comments on Barry going back in time and saving his mother. What would Henry Allen think about that? Turns out, we already know the answer:

We know already, don’t we? Henry has already said unequivocally when Barry came to Iron Heights to say, “I can save her, I can get you out of here.” I go, “No, absolutely not. Things happen for a reason. There are unintended consequences, Barry. You cannot go and change one thing without it having myriad unintended affects.” Henry Allen was very clear with Barry back in Iron Heights that he should not go back and — excuse my French — f— with the timeline. You cannot do that. It’s one of the reasons why Barry, the first time around, stopped himself from stopping the Reverse-Flash from killing his mother. Now he’s decided, “What do I have left to lose? I’ve lost everything? I’ve lost my father. I’ve lost my mother. Screw it. What else can go wrong?” So he decides to go back and do what Henry had advised him not to do.

John Wesley Shipp is also asked how Barry changing things will affect the show, but Shipp remains coy:

That’s going to be very interesting to find out, isn’t it? That is the exact question that we want left in the minds of our audience members when the curtain comes down on our finale. [Laughs.]

Here are the first look images of John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick (glad he’s back! I was pretty upset last week!):
