No Alan Scott Green Lantern For DC TV Universe

It’s learned – again – that Green Lantern won’t be appearing any time in the DC TV Universe.

Prior to Thursday’s episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, it was thought that possibly the surprise character reveal at the end was Alan Scott Green Lantern; however, EP Marc Guggenheim shot that down and notes the character is attached to the films.

“I’ll tell you right now, because I never want anyone to be disappointed, he’s not Alan Scott,” Guggenheim told CBR. “I love Alan Scott. I’ve written Alan Scott in the comics. Alan Scott is also attached to the Green Lantern franchise, which DC obviously has feature plans for. In the poll of ‘who it’s going to be,’ you can cross off Alan Scott.”

It’s been speculated Green Lantern has been wanted for DC TV due to the many Easter Eggs found in the various series, with one even going so far to describe a certain pilot. I do think this season has seen the Green Lantern Easter Eggs subside, obviously due to the Green Lantern Corps and Justice League movies. We already know WB put the kibosh on using Suicide Squad for Arrow, Blue Beetle, and it’s probably a safe bet that Black Canary was killed off to make way for the character to appear in the DCEU. More than likely, WB doesn’t want another controversy similar to Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller as The Flash, so no characters will be shared.

Watch: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season Finale Final Scene Spoiler & Season 2 Details

Spoilers follow for the season finale of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

Tonight’s episode saw the team come out on top as they managed to finally kill Vandal Savage, and then at the end we were treated to a couple of big surprises.

The first is that both Hawkman and Hawkgirl decided not to rejoin the team as time cops. After 4000 years of not being allowed to be together, now with Vandal dead, they can have a life to themselves. Off they flew (and won’t be a part of Season 2).

The second was the big reveal at the end (watch below) with none other than Rex Tyler, Hourman. A second Waverider ship from the future finds the team with Hourman revealing he was sent back in time by Mick to warn the team not to board their Waverider as they all die.

Hourman also tells them team he’s from the Justice Society of America.

Check out the scene below.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also had this to say about Season 2 (via THR):

With his final words in the finale, he planted a pretty deep flag about where we’re headed in season two, which is not just introducing Hourman but introducing his teammates in the Justice Society of America,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells The Hollywood Reporter. “For comic book fans, everyone knows the Justice Society is really the precursor to the Justice League, so it’s a pretty big move in our DC universe here on TV.”

“One of the other big things we’ve done in the season finale is we planted another flag in the form of Rip’s [Arthur Darvil] statement. Because the Time Masters are essentially gone and the Legends have destroyed the Oculus, that all means that someone else has to do the job of the Time Masters,” Guggenheim says. “Our Legends take that on as their new responsibility. It’s sort of like, you break it, you buy it.”

“The season two big bad is actually not going to be the [alien race of] Thanagarians,” Guggenheim says. “It’s going to be something else entirely. All I’ll really say about the nemesis in season two is Vandal Savage looks like a walk in the park compared to what the Legends will be facing. This will be a much, much bigger threat. I’m going to leave it at that because when we do reveal it, it’s going to be pretty big. People will be asking, ‘Vandal who?’ once they get the full picture of what our team is up against. It’s going to be way bigger than what you can even imagine, I can guarantee it.”

Watch: Powerless Trailer & New Images

Check out the first trailer for the upcoming new NBC DC comedy TV series starring Vanessa Hudgens with Powerless as well as a batch of images.

About:

In the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, Vanessa Hudgens (“Grease Live,” “High School Musical”) plays Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult “hero” in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.

The cast includes Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk.

Ben Queen serves as writer and executive producer. Director Michael Patrick Jann (pilot) also executive produces. “Powerless” is produced by Warner Bros. Television and based on the characters from DC Comics.

SyFy Debuts Krypton Teaser Trailer

SyFy debuted a new teaser trailer for their upcoming Superman prequel Krypton series.

While no footage has made its way online as of yet, IGN provided a description from NBC Universal’s upfronts.

The Krypton teaser begins in space with a voice over asking, “What remains when a civilization dies?” It’s then revealed the footage is shown flying through the destruction of Krypton with green rocks flying by as well. The voice over then states, “This is not the story of how our world died. This is the story of how we lived.” Scenes are then showed on Krypton, which resembled those from the beginning of Man of Steel.

Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. Krypton will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Note: I’m not totally sure if this is set in the world of the DC movies or just inspired by it, though a while back Goyer did state it was and is set 200 years prior to the events from Man of Steel. If the latter is the case, then Krypton would be the first DC TV series to connect to the movies.

I Hated The Flash “Invincible” Ending

Ughh!

Were we watching Man of Steel or Batman Vs. Superman tonight?

The Flash happens to be my favorite show (or was?) on television right now. It’s funny, it’s bright, it’s colorful — it’s a superhero show.

However, all that went down the drain as the end of “Invincible” saw the “D” in “DC” become depression.

Spoilers follow.

Just when Barry gets his dad back, DC takes him away, and I think it’s safe to say that John Wesley Shipp has fast become a fan-favorite character on The Flash, playing Henry Allen. This episode even saw Shipp reunited with his ’90s Flash co-star Amanda Pays, which suggested a possible budding romance, but alas, that was not to be.

Zoom ended up killing Henry Allen at the end of the episode (watch below). As the events unfolded, I found myself telling showrunner Greg Berlanti not to do it! Bummer.

I found the death rather meaningless. It didn’t need to be done (unless of course Henry Allen is going to appear in the movies? ahem Black Canary, Amanda Waller, Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn, etc, etc, etc). Sure there was a lot of build up with Barry being “invincible,” but then he didn’t even try to save his dad (you’re “invincible!” – at least try, dude!). And we already know Zoom is an uber bad dude; did he need to kill Barry’s father (did I mention played by fan-favorite John Wesley Shipp?) to prove he’s even a badder dude? I didn’t think so. Case in point: It’s probably a safe guess Barry takes down Zoom in the season 2 finale next week, so why even bother killing off Henry Allen? It comes off as unneeded and pointless. It comes off just for show. It comes off as eyerolling and bland.  Grant Gustin and John Wesley Shipp provided some the most heartfelt moments on the series, and now that’s gone.

Honestly, what this episode did kill is my excitement for next week’s season finale and the series. Come on, guys.

Meh.

ABC Moves Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD Season 4 Timeslot

What could be the proverbial nail in the coffin for Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD is that ABC has pushed its timeslot back an hour.

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD Season 4 will now air at 10pm ET, an hour past the 9pm timeslot, on Tuesday nights.

ABC also cancelled Agent Carter and didn’t green light the Agents Of SHIELD spinoff, Marvel’s Most Wanted.

Taking Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD Tuesday 9pm ET timeslot is Fresh Off the Boat (9pm) and The Real O’Neals (9:30pm).

We can possibly speculate the feud between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV may have had something to do with ABC and Disney’s decision to axe Marvel TV. Feige recently booted eccentric Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel TV/Comics people from having anything due to with the movies over a long history of frustration and interference.

I’m actually hoping Marvel TV eventually comes under the control of Kevin Feige, then we could have some real quality shows and ones that interact with the movies.

Same goes for Marvel Comics. A Kevin Feige-led Marvel Comics division would be an absolute blessing compared with what we have now.

Kevin Smith Wants Peter Weller, Edgar Wright & More For Buckaroo Banzai TV Series

Last night saw it revealed that Kevin Smith is developing a TV series based on the 1984 Buckaroo Banzai film.

Now Smith has released new details, which includes mention he wants original star, Peter Weller, as the bad guy of the TV series, that all of the original cast is welcome to return, and that he wants to use an all-star roster of directors and writers with Edgar Wright, Richard Kelley and WD Richter mentioned.

Via Instagram:

I’ve been tapped to adapt BUCKAROO BANZAI into a series, which is something of a dream come true: I’ve loved the 1984 movie since I was a kid. My well-read copy of the film’s novelization by screenwriter Earl Mac Rauch is my Bible. But I’m not gonna be directing this alone: it is my intent to assemble a dream team of cult movie directors for the 10 episodes of this #BuckarooBanzai series – folks like #DonnieDarko director Richard Kelly, #ShaunOfTheDead director @edgar_wright and of course, the #Banzai director himself – WD Richter. Same with the writing: I want to bring in the creator Rauch himself to write the flashback episode detailing the night the black Lectroids came to Earth (with the help of #OrsonWelles and his War of the Worlds broadcast.) The other scripts will be penned by other #BlueBlazeIrregulars who worship this flick like I do. Cast-wise, I’m hoping to get the great Peter Weller to play Team Banzai’s greatest enemy, Hanoi Xan! And any cast member from the original who wants to play is gonna be welcomed like returning conquering heroes. Long story short? Don’t worry: I’m not gonna #KevinSmith this Banzai series at all. It’s gonna be 100% true Buckaroo. Which means the watermelon will NEVER be explained. #MGM #yoyodyne #buckaroobanzaiagainsttheworldcrimeleague

Dear Chloe Bennet: Ask Ike Perlmutter Why Marvel Isn’t Connected

Agents of SHIELD‘s Chloe Bennet recently attended the Wizard World Des Moines Comic Con, where, like a lot of fans, she wondered why there wasn’t a connection between the Marvel movies and the Marvel TV shows.

Obviously, as the Marvel movies are uber popular, a nod to the television shows might be rather helpful.

Bennet has this to say (via io9) when asked if Hive was such a big threat, why wouldn’t the Avengers get involved:

I don’t know. People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care!

It’s also mentioned to Bennet that SHIELD doesn’t cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but would she want to:

I would love that. The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem to keen on that idea.

We see Bennet seems to be laying blame with the movie side of things, but maybe she should go ask her boss, Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, what’s up.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently parted ways with both Ike Perlmutter and his cronies that run TV and the comics, which includes Brian Michael Bendis, the creator or Bennet’s SHIELD character.  Head of Marvel TV,  Jeph Loeb, is also known to be chums with the group.

Here are a few things Perlmutter is said to have been responsible for (off the top of my head):

No female Marvel movies

No female Iron Man 3 villain

Cancellation of X-Men and Fantastic Four comics due to feud with Fox Studios

Cancellation of X-Men and Fantastic Four merchandise over feud with Fox Studios

Reason why Joss Whedon left Marvel following Avengers 2 (and now with Perlmutter out out of the picture, Whedon has renewed interest with Marvel)

Reason for Avengers 2 not doing as well as hoped (Perlmutter’s creative committee also blamed)

Reason why no Iron Man 4 (and now with Perlmutter out of the picture, there is renewed talk of Iron Man 4)

With Perlmutter now gone, Joe Russo has said Marvel Studios is a much healthier and better place to work at

Perlmutter’s TV and creative committee cancelled the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book knowing full well a movie was getting made and placed themselves on new comics and animated shows

Perlmutter forced an Inhumans movie

Problems with Robert Downey Jr. and paying the rest of the Avengers cast (RDJ backed up his fellow actors)

Suggested further reading for Chloe Bennet:

When it comes down to it, the reason for the divide seems pretty obvious as one side seems to have rather suspect business practices and a lack of respect for people involved. Who would want to team up with that?

ZORN (Sudeikis), the Defender of Zephyria, Conqueror of the tribes of Agon, decapitator of the dark herdsmen of Grith, has fought in countless epic battles throughout his life, but may find the greatest challenge of all when travels back to suburbia to reconnect with his family. Once there, Zorn finds himself estranged from his son, ALANGULON or just “Alan” (Johnny Pemberton, “21 Jump Street”), a 17-year-old with a mellow, P.C. attitude; and Alan’s mother, Zorn’s ex-wife, EDIE (Cheryl Hines, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), a former wild child now living the life of an upper middle class mom. Zorn’s efforts to win them back are complicated by the fact that Edie is now engaged to CRAIG (Tim Meadows, “Saturday Night Live”), an online psychology professor and a stable presence in their lives. Nevertheless, to be a good dad, Zorn commits to remaining in Orange County for the long haul, renting an apartment and even working in the exciting field of industrial soap sales under his boss, LINDA (Artemis Pebdani, “Scandal,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), who likes his passion, but just wants him to rein it in at the office. As he adjusts to life in the suburbs, Zorn is the classic fish out of water, navigating his way through fatherhood, divorce and a boring office job. Sure, as an overlord of pain, he defeated glombeasts, wolf-bats and bloodthirsty arachnobots, but now he’ll go toe-to-toe with a new set of enemies: meter maids, dress codes and the DMV.

Grief-stricken after the loss of his young wife and unborn child, ex-Navy SEAL-turned-detective MARTIN RIGGS (Clayne Crawford, “Rectify”) moves to California to “start over” at the LAPD. He’s paired up with ROGER MURTAUGH (Emmy Award nominee Damon Wayans, Sr., “My Wife and Kids,” “In Living Color”), who’s just coming back to the job after a near-fatal heart attack. Riggs’ penchant for diving headfirst into the line of fire immediately clashes with Murtaugh’s prudent, by-the-book technique. It’s clear from the moment they meet, this partnership could be lethal. But during their first case together, Riggs drags Murtaugh on a high-speed chase culminating inside the Long Beach Grand Prix and into a seaport shootout with drug dealers – and despite his protests, the older cop feels more alive than he has in years. Meanwhile, Riggs gets a glimpse of why Murtaugh is so determined to get home safely at the end of each day – he’s got a family and a newborn baby of his own. By the time their investigation ends, Riggs realizes he may have found something worth living for – a partner and friend like Murtaugh. And even Murtaugh figures this arrangement might just work out after all. If only Riggs doesn’t get them killed first…

Info:

THE EXORCIST

Widely regarded as the greatest horror movie ever made, “The Exorcist” broke box office records and terrified audiences around the world. Now, more than four decades after the Academy Award-nominated film, THE EXORCIST returns as a TV series. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), THE EXORCIST is a propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession. FATHER TOMAS ORTEGA (Alfonso Herrera, “Sense8,” “The Chosen”) is the new face of the Catholic Church: progressive, ambitious and compassionate. He runs a small but loyal parish in the suburbs of Chicago. He has no idea that his quiet life is about to change forever. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, another priest finds himself locked in a life-and-death struggle with evil. FATHER MARCUS BRENNAN (Ben Daniels, “Flesh and Bone,” “House of Cards”) is a modern-day Templar Knight, an orphan raised since childhood by the Vatican to wage war against its enemies. Father Marcus is everything Father Tomas is not: relentless, abrasive and utterly consumed by his sacred mission. Caught in the middle is the RANCE family, members of Tomas’ parish. On the surface, they’re a normal, suburban family, but all is not as it seems in this household. The patriarch, HENRY RANCE (guest star Alan Ruck, “Spin City,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”), is slowly but surely losing his mind. Eldest daughter KATHERINE (Brianne Howey, SCREAM QUEENS) has become a recluse who refuses to leave her room. Her younger sister, CASEY (Hannah Kasulka, “The Fosters”), thinks she’s hearing strange noises coming from inside the walls. And mother ANGELA (Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Geena Davis, “Commander in Chief,” “Thelma & Louise”) has been plagued by recurring nightmares, each more frightening than the last. Angela believes there is something in the house, a demonic presence, growing stronger by the day. Desperate, she begs Father Tomas for help, unwittingly setting the naive young priest on a collision course with Father Marcus. Separately, each faces an insurmountable task, but together they become the only hope against an evil force that has been mobilizing for centuries.

Kevin Smith Developing Buckaroo Banzai TV Series

Following a fan-favorite episode of The Flash (and hopefully Arrow), it’s learned Kevin Smith is developing a Buckaroo Banzai TV series.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! was a quirky sci-fi movie starring Peter Weller that premiered in 1984.

Smith, on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, mentioned details about the new project where he revealed the Buckaroo Banzai TV series came about as a result of his positive work on directing an episode of The Flash.

“[Buckaroo Banzai is] one of my favorite movies in the world and largely responsible for the weird s‑‑‑ that I make, because that movie was supposed to be one thing but it did it in another way. It just did it very off-center,” Smith said.

Kevin Smith also offered a possible take on the new Buckaroo Banzai TV series.

“Basically, you just do the entire movie for season 1, and then season 2 you finally do the sequel we’ve all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Versus the World Crime League,” Smith offered, reports EW.com.

The Buckaroo Banzia movie also starred Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd, with the plot described as: Buckaroo Banzai is a rock-star/brain-surgeon/comic-book-hero/samurai who along with his group, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, must stop evil creatures from the 8th dimension (all named John) who are trying to conquer our dimension. He is helped by Penny Pretty, who is a dead ringer for his ex-wife, and some good extra-dimensional beings who look and talk like Jamaicans.

No sequel for the movie was ever developed, but the World Crime League was teased in the end credits.
