Dan Slott Still At It: 24Hrs Bashing Batman Vs. Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23090:]]

We’re guessing the next issues of Spider-Man and Silver Surfer may be late, with the blaming lying with the Batman Vs. Superman footage released last night during Gotham.

Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott has spent the last 24 hours blasting the footage, Batman Vs. Superman, Zack Snyder, Man of Steel and Superman on Twitter (read Part 1 and Part 2).

Slott isn’t happy with Snyder’s portrayal of the Man of Steel as the writer feels it’s a “dark/grim/joyless Superman.” Slott goes on to defend his opinions stating, “From watching 2 trailers & all of MAN OF STEEL, my opinions are firmly based and far from ‘senseless.'” Slott even argues to ask Cap fans if they are happy with the character’s portrayal in the Marvel movies, and then to go ahead and ask if the Superman fans are happy with the Henry Cavill version. Slott argues Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers was “on point” for Cap, while Man of Steel was “FAR off point” for Superman.

Slott continues with mention if they switched directors he would be “less wary.”

Captain America: Civil War Trailer

Marvel has let it be known that the recent Captain America: Civil War trailer has shattered the world record for most views in a 24-hour time period, which was previously held by The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

While the official info doesn’t specifically state the sources of the viewings, we are guessing not only YouTube, but also Facebook and various other social media, sites and video players.

Marvel also confirms the Captain America: Civil War trailer will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The first trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” debuted online to a record-shattering 61M global views in its first 24 hours!

In theaters May 6, 2016, the third installment in the Captain America franchise was launched by a surprise appearance by Captain America himself, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last Tuesday, and immediately debuted online globally following its first look on air, along with three epic posters for the film.

This debut trailer for “Captain America: Civil War almost doubled the previous record, held by the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron – which debuted to a then record-breaking 34 million views in 2014.

Audiences will also soon be able to see the new Captain America: Civil War trailer on the big screen on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Hulk Confirmed For Avengers: Infinity Wars; Loki For Thor 3

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22740:]]

It’s recently been learned that Mark Ruffalo and the Hulk will be a part of Thor: Ragnarok, and now Ruffalo has confirmed the Hulk for the Avengers: Infinity War movies as well as Loki for Thor 3.

Regarding Loki, while it seems the inclusion of the Asgardian Trickster is a no-brainer, Tom Hiddleston recently questioned if he would be returning as he stated he hasn’t heard anything from Marvel in years; hasn’t heard about Thor 3, and also wondered if the fans wanted him back.

Now it appears we can all breathe a sigh of relief as Mark Ruffalo fills in USA Today that he has spoken with Thor 3 director Taika Waititi, and while Ruffalo doesn’t know story specifics, he does state Hulk, Thor and Loki will be in the movie.

I don’t know what the story is yet, but it’ll be (Loki) and Thor, and then I’ll be in there here and there. But I don’t know any of the particulars quite yet. I’ve talked to Taika a little bit and I like where it’s headed. … Chris (Hemsworth) and I have a really good time together, we goof off and play around when Tom Hiddleston is around. So it’ll be a lot of funny back-and-forth, especially with Taika, he does that really well. It’ll have that kind of antagonistic Odd Couple-thing going on.

As Hiddleston previously stated, it’s possible Marvel simply hasn’t informed him yet of the Thor 3 plans. Ray Stevenson and Zachary Levi, two members of the Warriors Three, haven’t heard from Marvel as well, but are expecting the call: “I’ve heard that it’s on the cards,” Stevenson told IGN. “As far as Volstagg is concerned, should he be called with his other Warriors Three to protect young Thor again, within a heart’s beat he will be there. So, I am waiting to hear. I’m very excited about the whole thing actually.” Likewise, Levi told CBR: “No, not at all. As far as I know, they are still writing the script. Once that’s all buttoned down, I’m sure they will be making the phone call to whatever actors are involved.”

The USA Today article also makes mention of the Hulk appearing in Avengers: Infinity War:

…he will resurface in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War sequels…

And Ruffalo comments on the possibility of a standalone Hulk movie:

“Actually, it feels even further away. It’s not Marvel’s property, it’s Universal’s property. I don’t know. It seems really problematic.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” has a November 3, 2017 release.

Vision Rumored For Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor 3 & Captain America: Civil War Spoilers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22674:]]

Potenial spoilers for Paul Bettany’s Vision have landed online in regards to Captain America: Civil War and what follows.

The Hashtag Show YouTube Channel states a source that previously filled them in about Vision in Avengers 2 is now offering the following. The video can also be watched below.

The Vision will be in a relationship with Scarlet Witch in Civil War.

While Captain America: Civil War concept art revealed Vision as part of Iron Man’s team, he won’t be staying there.

The Vision will be Tony Stark’s opposition throughout the film and jump over to Captain America’s team.

After major events that occur in the film, the Vision will be leaving Earth for space.

It’s speculated Vision could appear in Thor: Ragnarok, which is similar to the Hulk who will appear in Thor 3 as well. Furthermore, Thor’s Avengers 2 vision featured the Mind Gem in space.

Another possibility is that Vision could end up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with the Mind Gem, perhaps tying into Adam Warlock somehow.

It’s suggested Thanos needs to acquire the Mind Gem, so this is why Vision would need to go out into space.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Marvel Studios Vs TV Rumors Said To Be BS

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22529:]]

It was recently reported that a split has occurred between the Marvel Studios division, led by Kevin Feige, and the Marvel TV/Comics division, led by eccentric Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, which also includes the Marvel Creative Committee consisting of Joe Quesada, Dan Buckley and Brian Michael Bendis.

The initial report about the split stated that following “several years of frustration,” Feige recently “vented his unhappiness to Horn and Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this summer” which now means Kevin Feige will report to Disney studio chief Alan Horn instead of Perlmutter.

No specific reasons were cited, but following the release of the report, the rumors started flying.

Long story short: Basically (from my perspective), what went down is that following the first report of the split, new rumors surfaced that seemed overtly pro-Marvel Studios with the blame being aimed in the direction of Pelmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee.

That’s when Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool stepped in and contacted his Marvel Comics sources (Johnston has been involved in comic book news/gossip/rumor reporting for the past 23 years).

According to Johnston, his Marvel Comics/TV sources filled him in that:

• Disney considers Avengers 2 a failure with the reasoning being in part Kevin Feige

• Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 will have production budgets of $500 million

• Disney is laying off Marvel TV employees connected to Perlmutter

• Marvel Studios is cancelling the Inhumans movie (which was spearheaded by Perlmutter as an effort to promote Agents of SHIELD)

• Marvel Studios is interfering and stopping the Iron Fist Marvel TV Netflix series.

Now Forbes blogger Mark Hughes is stating the Marvel Studios vs. Marvel TV rumors are all BS – calling them “rubbish” –  offering Avengers 2 isn’t considered a failure, there is no evidence Inhumans is being cancelled, Infinity War movies will not have a $500 million budget, and that Marvel Studios isn’t trying to “harm” Marvel TV or cause the cancellation of the Iron Fist Netflix series.

The Fobes’ report goes on to mention there is nothing to back up Johnston’s claims, and offers the reason the rumors are BS is because Johnston got them from Marvel TV/Comics sources at the recent New York Comic-Con late night at the bar scene. It’s more or less stated the rumors from the Marvel TV/Comics people were exaggerated because liquor was involved and that they are just simply disgruntled employees, which happens in the work place any time a split/differences occur.

Johnston is sticking by his guns, however, as he responded to the Forbes report on Twitter: “have spoken to a no. of Marvel execs, East and West, well away from bars, who would vehemently dispute this.”

If there really is no “Civil War” taking place within Marvel, there is at least one going on in the blogosphere (spin from both sides) with the winner obviously being what comes to fruition in the months to come. Will we have an Inhumans movie? Will Iron Fist be cancelled? Time will tell…

Tom Hiddleston Doesn’t Know About Thor 3

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22427:]]

With Tom Hiddleston starring in the upcoming Crimson Peak movie, while promoting the film, the actor has fielded questions regarding the future of Loki.

Hiddleston previously hinted Loki might not be back for Thor 3 and even questioned if fans wanted to see him return.

Now Hiddleston says more of the same and actually reveals he hasn’t spoken to Marvel in about two years, with the last time probably being when he filmed his small cameo that was cut for Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

“I think so. I mean, I don’t know,” Hiddleston responded when asked by Screen Rant if he will be back for Thor 3.

“No, they haven’t, so we’ll see [Laughter],” Hiddleston said about Marvel letting him know if he’s even in the film. “You know, I genuinely do not know. I wish there was something I could tell you. I haven’t spoken to anyone at Marvel for about two years. That universe is expanding at such a rate, so…your guess is as good as mine.”

A recent rumor did state that Loki and Hiddleston will be back, so at least there is that.

Crimson Peak has an October 16, 2015 release, with Thor: Ragnarok scheduled for a November 3, 2017 release.

Dave Bautista Wants Drax In The Avengers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22324:]]

With Thanos set to take on the Avengers in Infinity War, Marvel’s street-level heroes are probably going to need some Marvel Cosmic assistance to handle the Mad Titan.

Dave Bautista, who previously let it be known he hopes his Guardians of the Galaxy team collides with the Avengers at some point, now says more of the same in that he hopes they do appear together on the big screen.

“Yeah, come on, man. Hell yeah. Yeah, of course I would,” Bautista tells Screen Rant in the following video while promoting his latest movie, the James Bond Spectre film. “At the core of me is the biggest geek you’ve ever met. I’m a superhero fan first and foremost, and…of course, man, I want that to happen. It’s rumors right now, but, you know, I pray every day…and night, and afternoon, and after you walk out the door I’ll go pray and say, ‘Please let Drax be in ‘The Avengers.’ [Laughter] Yeah, I hope it’ll happen.”

It’s presently unknown whether or not any of the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Infinity War or side-by-side the Avengers, and even James Gunn said a while back that the Guardians teaming with the Avengers hasn’t been decided, but if we had to guess, we would say it’s probably a good bet at least two members of the Guardians will appear with the Avengers down the road. There’s also the fact that Thanos and Drax are mortal enemies in the comics, which adds fuel to the fire…

Tom Hiddleston Reveals Why Loki Was Cut From Avengers 2 (Video)

Darn it all.

It turns out Loki’s Army is to blame for Tom Hiddleston being cut from The Avengers: Age Of Ultron after all.

Check out the above video where Hiddleston reveals why he was cut from Avengers 2.

Hiddleston says he filmed the Thor dream sequence for one day, but when test audiences viewed Loki in the scene, they figured Loki played a larger role in the movie and was responsible for Ultron.

Hiddleston offers that Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige came to the conclusion that having Loki in The Avengers 2 would be too confusing for people, as it changed their expectations, so they had to cut Hiddleston out.

So essentially the reason for Loki being cut is because he’s too popular.

There is also question if Tom Hiddleston will be back for Thor 3 as Hiddleston actually questioned if fans want him back as Loki, and he also said he isn’t sure when he’ll play the role again.

My response would be that if Marvel thinks Hiddleston and Loki have grown too big — would be to give him his own darn movie.

Steven Spielberg Once Again Says Superhero Genre Will Collapse

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22318:]]

About a month ago saw Steven Spielberg make mention that the superhero movie genre will go the way of the Western genre and die.

Now while speaking with USA Today, Spielberg offers up more of the same sentiments.

In clarifying earlier statements he was thought to have said about the film industry as a whole, Spielberg offers that he was actually talking about the collapse of superhero films.

“To clarify, I didn’t ever predict the implosion of the film industry at all,” he explained. “I simply predicted that a number of blockbusters in one summer — those big sort of tent-pole superhero movies — there was going to come a time where two or three or four of them in a row didn’t work. That’s really all I said. I didn’t say the film industry was ever going to end because of them.”

Spielberg also continued with mention again of comparisons to Westerns.

“[The superhero genre] doesn’t have the legs or the longevity of the Western, which was around since the beginning of film and only started to wither and shrivel in the ’60s.”

Spielberg’s comments caused Batman Vs. Superman director Zack Snyder and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige to respond.

Regarding Snyder’s response, which also contained a jab at Marvel, Snyder said he felt Batman and Superman were bigger than the superhero genre.

Kevin Feige’s own response didn’t seem to worrisome about the matter as Feige stated if Spielberg’s words hold true, that would mean Marvel is still in its infancy.

Kevin Feige Responds To Steven Spielberg & Zack Snyder’s Super Hero & Marvel Comments

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22296:]]

Will the Marvel super hero movies go the way of the Western genre? That’s pretty much what Steven Spielberg recently said, but guess what? That’s okay with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige.

Feige recently took part in an Avengers: Age Of Ultron Blu-Ray event where he discussed Marvel’s Phase 4 plans, Infinity War, Marvel TV, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man. IGN caught up with Feige to get his thoughts on Spielberg’s comments as well as what Batman Vs. Superman director Zack Snyder recently had to say about Ant-Man and the Marvel movies not being iconic.

Regarding Spielberg’s comments, Feige offered the Western genre lasted almost fifty years, so what would mean Marvel is still in its infancy.

“The Western lasted 40-50 years, and they still pop up occasionally,” Feige said. “It’s been, what, eight years since Iron Man 1 if we count that, which I do, as the beginning of our MCU? Maybe [the superhero genre] will only last another 42 years.”

Feige also offered a rebuttal to Snyder’s comments that Marvel movies are the “flavor of the week.”

“I think we’ve been doing pretty well. I’m very confident in the films we’ve announced that we have coming forward that they’re going to be surprising and different and unique,” Feige offered. “They all happen to be based on Marvel characters and Marvel comics, but from a genre and a cinematic perspective, they’re all very unique. Civil War may as well be a different genre from Age of Ultron.”

Feige continued by offering an an example of comparing Spielberg and Snyder’s sentiments to movies that have adapted popular novels, as obviously the novel-to-movie industry is booming and won’t be going the way of the Western any time soon.

“The way Winter Soldier was a political thriller, I think there is a more emotional and more geopolitical and real world through line through Civil War than there was in the broader Age of Ultron with the killer AI Tony Stark invention,” Feige said. “I think it’s the same thing as saying: ‘I don’t know how many more movies can be made from novels. I think people are going to bored with novels being turned into movies. I don’t know how long it’s going to last.'”

Speaking of the Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan also recently fired a few shots in the direction of Zack Snyder defending the Marvel brand as well.

Captain Marvel Was Originally A Part Of The Avengers 2 Ending

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22282:]]

As we previously heard before, Captain Marvel was in an earlier script of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron movie, but Marvel decided to cut the character because they didn’t want to introduce Carol Danvers without a back story.

Now while attending The Avengers 2 Blu-Ray event yesterday, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and producer Jeremy Latcham expand upon Captain Marvel in Age Of Ultron (via SlashFilm).

Here’s the blurb:

Feige:

You may be alluding to rumor about Captain Marvel showing up in [Avengers: Age Of Ultron]. At one point, it might have been one draft. And we shot a plate; the thought was we maybe we would have her in there, but the truth is it didn’t seem appropriate to have this new person in a new costume literally come out of nowhere at the end of this story. It would have been a disservice to – what by the time this movie was coming out – people already knew  was coming anyway, and a way we could really do it justice.

Latcham:

In really early development there was a notion there would be like a ton of new people. And then it was like ‘we haven’t really introduced them, we don’t know where they are going to come from’ and Josh [Whedon] did not love that idea. It was an early discussion, and that became ‘just be Captain Marvel,’ and then that felt weird. Like to just have one new person…

Feige:

And also what the subtext was, what does Cap say? ‘They’re not the 27 Yankees.’ Well if Captain Marvel is there, what are we saying about her? The notion that they need to be, certainly Wanda and Vision, and to a lesser extent Falcon and Rhodey, need to learn what it means to be a team, even if the most dysfunctional team in the history of teams.

Feige and Latcham also discussed:

New Avengers Team Confirmed For Phase 4 Following Avengers Infinity War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22276:]]

Coming out of yesterday’s Avengers 2 Blu-Ray event, new details are learned about Marvel’s Phase 4 plans, which follow the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movies.

Avengers producer Jeremy Latcham drops a bomb in that there will be a new team of Avengers as well as that Infinity War will mark an end to part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here’s the blurb (via SlashFilm):

I think [Infinity War is] definity an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers. Who knows exactly what’s going to happen in that film, but I think this version of that team – I think we start to hint at that end of Age Of Ultron – that the team will be evolving.

One of the things we love from the comics is the roster is always changing, that new people are coming on the team, and that you can pick up an Avengers book ten years later and you don’t recognize people on the cover, but the ideas, the ideals, the things that make the Avengers the Avengers, still exist.

I think that is part of what this culmination will be, we’re seeing this version of the team doing this thing to save the universe, the galaxy, and we’ll kind of see where that goes. It’s not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I think that it is the end of part of it. For sure. We’re still trying to sort out which parts that meets.

Any guesses as to who will make up the new Marvel Phase 4 Avengers roster?

Possibly Spider-Man? We can speculate either Cap or Iron Man will be gone. It’s probable Doctor Strange might be on board. Maybe Captain Marvel Carol Danvers. Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, Black Panther, Wasp and Ant-Man are also possible contenders.

Feige and Latcham also discussed:

• Spider-Man in the MCU

• Infinity War and the Infinity Gauntlet

Crossing over with Marvel TV

• Captain Marvel in Avengers 2

Watch: Kevin Feige Talks Infinity War From Avengers 2 Blu-Ray Event

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22275:]]

We’ve earlier heard Kevin Feige discussing Spider-Man and Marvel TV while attending yesterday’s Avengers 2 Blu-Ray event, and now video has surfaced featuring details about Infinity War. Below you can check out the Q&A (via SlashFilm), regarding Infinity War, Feige offered the following details:

You will see the other two [Infinity Stones] some time in Phase 3 for sure. There’s a Gauntlet that needs to be filled.

Regarding when Marvel started to put the Infinity Stones storyline together:

It really was sort of Iron Man 2 and building the architecture of the entirety of Phase 1 that it started to come about and the notion of the Tesseract being the not only thing that ties Phase 1 together, but that also could be a part of tieing Phase 2 together. I wouldn’t say it was all perfectly planned and laid out in 2009, but that was the genesis of it. It goes back that far.

Regarding the Gauntlet seen during the Avengers 2 mid-credit scene, Feige said it’s not the same one (a while back saw Feige mention there are two gauntlets). Producer Jeremy Latcham then interjected, “Which do you think is the real one?” with Feige giving him a look.

Note: The Gauntlet featured in Odin’s treasure room is right-handed, while Thanos used a left-handed glove in Avengers 2 (and the Infinity War teaser). The comic book version of the Infinity Gauntlet is left-handed. We can guess Thanos may have created a fake Infinity Gauntlet to throw off Odin and the Asgardians.

Latcham also let it be known a new team of Avengers will be assembling for Marvel’s Phase 4 plans.

Kevin Feige Says Marvel Movies Will Reference TV Shows Eventually

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22270:]]

If you watched last night’s premiere of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD you may have noticed a few references to the Marvel movies namely with mention of Sokovia from Avengers 2 and the reference to Ant-Man; however, the Marvel movies have yet to return the favor.

According to Kevin Feige, that looks to be changing as he states the movies will reference the TV shows at some point and says it’s “inevitable.”

“I think that’s inevitable at some point as we’re plotting the movies going forward and they’re doing the shows,” Feige explained during the Avengers 2 Blu-Ray event held yesterday, reports IGN.

Feige did go on to note it’s difficult for the movies to sync up with the TV shows as the various Marvel TV series have different schedules.

“It’s easier for them. They’re more nimble and faster and produce things quicker than we do, which is one of the main reasons you see the repercussions of Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron in the show,” Feige said. “Going forward and certainly as they begin to do more shows and cast them with such great actors as they have — particularly Daredevil — that that may occur. A lot of it is by the time we start doing a movie, they’d be midway through a season; by the time it comes out they’d be done with the second, starting the third season. Finding timing on that is not always easy.”
