Robert Downey Jr. dropped a quiet little bombshell for Father’s Day, and he didn’t say a word to do it.
The Doctor Doom actor posted a single image to Instagram: a child’s crayon drawing of a smiling kid holding hands with a green-cloaked, metal-masked Doom, captioned in the drawing itself, “I ❤️ doom Dad.”
No text, no explanation. Just that, flanked by two kites bearing crossed-out Avengers logos. The post pulled 1.4 million likes and sent the fandom into a frenzy.
And it lands right on top of a thread we’ve been tracking since February.
Is Doctor Doom a Father in Avengers: Doomsday?
It’s not coming out of nowhere.
As we covered in our look at Marvel’s “dad era”, there have been rumors for months that Downey’s Doctor Doom storyline involves his own child.
A wordless Father’s Day post built entirely around Doom-as-dad isn’t proof, but RDJ choosing to tease that specific idea, on that specific day, is the kind of wink that doesn’t happen by accident.

The Franklin Richards Theory
Fans zeroed in fast on one detail: the kites in the drawing are marked with a “4.” If that’s a nod to the Fantastic Four, the theory goes, the child calling Doom “father” could be Franklin Richards, which is, of course, Reed and Sue’s reality-warping son.
It’s a leap from a crayon drawing, so file it under fan speculation. But it’s a leap with real comic roots: Doom’s fixation on Franklin’s god-tier powers is long-established lore, and Franklin’s MCU arrival has already been positioned as a major piece of the next phase.
A Doom who covets — or claims — Franklin as his own would be a wildly fitting use of the character.
Interestingly, a VFC friend of ours suggested that the scene in Fantastic Four showing Doom with Franklin is Franklin healing Doom’s face. How does that fit? Well, the baby Franklin healed and saved his mom, Sue Storm, in the movie.
According to the VFX artist, it would be a way of showing Doom as Robert Downey Jr. without the mask, à la Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, which in canon was never supposed to happen.

It All Fits Marvel’s “Dad Era”
Step back, and the post isn’t a one-off.
It’s another sign that we laid out months ago: Marvel is leaning hard into fatherhood.
The Doomsday teaser reframed Steve Rogers as a dad cradling a baby. Thor crossed from warrior to guardian with Love. Franklin Richards is being baked into the storyline. And now the franchise’s biggest new villain is being teased as a father too.
Whether Doom’s child turns out to be Franklin, a Doom of his own, or a misdirect entirely, the throughline is the same, the MCU’s next chapter is building its stakes around parents, kids, and legacy.
RDJ just made that subtext text, in crayon, on Father’s Day.
