Chris Evans Sparks Secret Wars Speculation With New Avengers Tease

A Chris Evans video message to a fan is making the rounds again this weekend, recirculated for the actor’s birthday, and it’s being passed around as confirmation that Steve Rogers is suiting up for Avengers: Secret Wars.

He says “the next one.” The fans filled in the rest.

What Evans Says

In the clip, Evans is deliberately cagey, as he jokes that he can’t hand over any Avengers secrets because Marvel is “too strict,” and that what little he can share amounts to crumbs.

What he does offer: he starts work on “the next one” in a couple of months, and he’s in it.

Evans saying he starts work “in a couple of months” also lines up with the Russo Brothers being already deep in pre-production on Secret Wars.

Why “The Next One” Points To Secret Wars

While it’s not a Marvel official announcement that Chris Evans returns in Avengers: Secret Wars, the timing seems to line up.

The video was reportedly recorded around March 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday was filmed before that, with Secret Wars said to be filming this summer.

Avengers: Doomsday wrapped principal photography back in September 2025, and Evans’ return as Steve Rogers was already public, as Marvel confirmed it in the December 2025 teaser, the one with the motorcycle and the baby.

So by March, there was nothing left to be secretive about regarding Doomsday. The cat was long out of the bag.

Evans being tight-lipped — “I can’t give secrets” — only makes sense if he’s talking about a film Marvel hasn’t rolled out yet.

And the math fits: a video recorded in March, plus “a couple of months,” lands in mid-2026, which is reportedly exactly when Avengers: Secret Wars is set to begin filming.

Doomsday, by contrast, was already shot; you don’t describe a movie you’ve finished as “the next one” you’re about to start.

Stack it up and the fans’ read is the logical one. He doesn’t name Secret Wars, but everything around the words does.

What he actually does seem to reveal is that Steve Rogers survives Doomsday, that is unless his role in Secret Wars is a flashback scene.

Speaking of flashbacks, Avengers: Endgame gets re-released in September, featuring new footage tied to Doomsday, so fans will be able to see Evan wield Mjolnir one more time on the big screen.

Avengers: Doomsday opens Dec. 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars reportedly following on Dec. 17, 2027. For everything confirmed, rumored, and leaked, see our full Avengers: Doomsday news and updates hub.
