Avengers: Secret Wars Already In Pre-Production, Say Russo Brothers

Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed they are already in the middle of pre-production on Avengers: Secret Wars.

The update came during an SXSW London event tied to the Russos’ AGBO production company, following the Avengers: Doomsday coffee marketing stunt that has not exactly gone over well with fans online.

Marvel fans spent days watching the Russos tease Latveria imagery, with many hoping it would lead to the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer. Instead, the big reveal turned out to be a Dom Latveria Coffee pop-up in London.

Now, at least, the Russos have offered a more meaningful update on the next Avengers movies.

Russos Say Avengers: Doomsday Work Continues Until November

Joe Russo said they are still working on Avengers: Doomsday and will continue doing so until November.

He then added, “And then we are in the middle of what we call pre-production on Secret Wars.”

The comment confirms Avengers: Secret Wars is already moving forward behind the scenes, even as Avengers: Doomsday remains deep in post-production work.

Pre-production is the stage before filming begins. It usually includes script work, story planning, concept art, set design, casting, location scouting, costume design, stunt planning, visual effects planning, and figuring out how the movie will actually be shot.

For a movie as big as Avengers: Secret Wars, pre-production is a massive process. Marvel, the Russos, and the production team have to plan not just the story, but also the huge number of characters, locations, action scenes, and visual effects expected from the finale of the Multiverse Saga.
