Luke Skywalker Star Wars: Episode VIII Set Video Surfaces

Potential spoilers follow for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Set video has surfaced of what appears to be Luke Skywalker at what is being described as “The Meditation Rock” by the crew.

It’s said the scene involves Luke meditating on the rock in what might be some sort of Force Vision scene.

Making Star Wars thinks the Meditation Rock scene on Ahch-Too resembles concept art featuring what might be Tatooine, which suggests Luke is having some sort of vision of his home planet (Tatooine) while on the planet seen at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Ahch-To).

It’s also noted that a young actor is being used as a stand in for Luke Skywalker, which may or may not be of importance.

Watch the Luke video below.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

New Luke Skywalker Concept Art & Images From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

What could have been, right?

Instead of getting that single scene from Luke Skywalker at the end of the movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens concept art reveals Mark Hamill may have originally played a larger role.

Reddit fans have been posting art and images of Luke Skywalker that are apparently a part of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray extras.

That pic of Luke with Vader’s helmet is pretty cool. We know Kylo-Ren ended up with it. I wonder what that’s about? We also see an updated Luke image for Force Awakens from Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Rumored Luke Skywalker Scene & Poe Dameron Costume

We get some rumored details on a Star Wars: Episode VIII scene involving Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and also a description for Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron costume.

Previous set images revealed aristocratic-looking characters and aliens, and now the scene is said to take place at a casino. It’s said the scene involves lots of different aliens, similar to the cantina scene from A New Hope and The Force Awakens, but on a larger scale.  Luke is said to be walking around the casino looking for someone (unknown).  Something apparently happens causing an evacuation with the sequence said to involve Laura Dern’s character and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, as well as lots of people evacuating into smaller ships.

Regarding the costume of Poe Dameron in Star Wars: Episode VIII, Making Star Wars describes it as a cross between Han Solo and Indiana Jones. It’s said to be Poe’s Resistance costume (not the X-Wing costume), which is very similar to Poe’s Force Awakens look, but with slightly updated color and a new jacket. Poe has a V-cut undershirt that is grayish light blue with a jacket from the “Han Solo Collection,” described as a “cafe racer jacket,” but not tight fitting. The jacket is said to look like Han Solo’s jacket from The Force Awakens, but with a higher collar and the lapels stick out more. There is also a left breast pocket.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Started Filming

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24261:]]

Director Rian Johnson has started filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news in a quarterly earnings call, which also saw Iger talk about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode IX and Star Wars: Rogue One.

Regarding Episode VIII, EW.com says the sequel was originally set to begin filming in January, but principal photography was pushed back a few weeks around the same time the movie’s release was shifted from May 2017 to December 2017

Iger noted Star Wars: The Force Awakens is only the third film in history to collect more than $2 billion at box office, and it is the only movie to collect more than $900 million in the U.S. Iger also gave an update about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise with mention it has earned more than $3 billion globally in consumer products.

“There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products,” Iger said. “Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”

The next Star Wars movie is Star Wars: Rogue One, with Iger noting filming is just about done.

“Filming of Rogue One is virtually completed and we absolutely love what we’ve seen so far,” Iger said. “This is the first of a set of planned stand-alone stories and we’re already in preproduction on our next one, for release in May of 2018.”

Rogue One has a December 16, 2016 release, and the next standalone Star Wars movie is about Han Solo.

Mark Hamill & Kevin Conroy Tease Batman: The Killing Joke Animated Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23743:]]

This Summer’s San Diego Comic-Con will see the premiere of the Batman: The Killing Joke animated movie, which will feature veteran voice actor Kevin Conroy back as the Caped Crusader along with Mark Hamill reprising as The Joker.

The duo recently took to Twitter to post an image of themselves.

“I finally caught my favorite villain! Bats nabs Joker,” Conroy posted on Twitter.

Bruce Timm is behind the project and also recently revealed the Batman: The Killing Joke animated movie will feature original footage not a part of the comic.

“The source material is not long enough to make a feature film out of,” Bruce Timm offered. “So we actually had to add a lot more story to it, which is tricky, but I think we came up with a really good solution on how that worked.”

The graphic novel is described by Amazon as:

According to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as The Joker, that’s all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he’s out to prove his deranged point. And he¿s going to use Gotham City’s top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it.

Now Batman must race to stop his archnemesis before his reign of terror claims two of the Dark Knight’s closest friends. Can he finally put an end to the cycle of bloodlust and lunacy that links these two iconic foes before it leads to its fatal conclusion? And as the horrifying origin of the Clown Prince of Crime is finally revealed, will the thin line that separates Batman’s nobility and The Joker’s insanity snap once and for all?

Mark Hamill To Host EPSN Star Wars Documentary

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23192:]]

While we have yet to see Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the actor can be seen hosting a Star Wars documentary on ESPN.

Examining the sport and athleticism behind the choreography and training utilized in the making of Star Wars lightsaber duels, Star Wars: Evolution of the Lightsaber Duel, hosted by Mark Hamill, will air Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The documentary will precede the Friday, Dec. 18, launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in U.S. theaters.

Check out the trailer below.

“Lightsaber duels from the Star Wars films are some of cinema’s most recognized battles and an iconic part of the most popular movie franchise of all time,” said Craig Lazarus, ESPN vice president, SportsCenter & News, Storytelling Units.

“We will take viewers on a unique journey that examines the connection of these duels to sports and their evolution, from the original trilogy through the prequels, and now to Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Lazarus. “Viewers will see the transition from fencing and samurai swordplay in the original films to an increased focus on martial arts and the sport of kendo.”

For the documentary, ESPN traveled to the 2015 Kendo World Championships in Japan to gather interviews and information to explain the genesis of kendo and how it applies to Star Wars lightsaber duels.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23193:]]

Hamill, who reprises his role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, lived in Japan for his last two years of high school and is very familiar with kendo.

“I really feel that kendo has informed so much of what we have done in the films it is about time that it gets some long-overdue recognition,” Hamill said.

What people don’t realize is how much goes into what appears to be just minutes on the screen,” Hamill said. “The elaborate choreography for the actual fight is done on several different sets over a period of weeks and then it is edited down to what you see on the screens, so I am happy people are able to see the amount of work that goes into it.”

The program also will include behind-the-scenes video of actor John Boyega, who plays Finn in the new film, as he trains for a lightsaber battle scene. Boyega is interviewed for the program as is his kendo trainer, Paul Vincent.

SC Featured also traveled to England to interview actor Ian McDiarmid, who portrayed Emperor Palpatine in previous Star Wars films and Nick Gillard, kendo expert and former Star Wars stunt man and choreographer.

New interviews with film director/producer J.J. Abrams and Jonathan W. Rinzler, Lucasfilm historian, are also part of the documentary along with rare, behind-the-scenes footage from the Lucasfilm archive.

On Oct. 19, the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted during halftime of ESPN’s Monday Night Football game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, with tickets for the movie going on sale immediately afterward.

Mark Hamill Teases Where Is Luke Skywalker?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23188:]]

Where the heck is Luke Skywalker?

Luke has been noticeably absent from all teasers, trailers, promos and even merchandise.

As we get closer to the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the only tidbit from Mark Hamill and Luke Skywalker has been two cast images (pictured above) and a voice-over in a teaser. While an image of Luke Skywalker may have leaked online, we still don’t have a clue about anything in regards to the character.

While we here at Cosmic Book News actually think it’s a good thing (we’re not posting spoilers until the movie debuts), mainstream newspapers and even Mark Hamill himself have taken notice to the lack of attention — or maybe it should be said the lack of “promotion.”

Hamill posted the following image on Facebook of himself peeking behind a newspaper where the headline reads: “Where is Luke?”

An image has also been making its rounds on social media of a “Missing” Luke Skywalker as well (see below).

Obviously we’ll all discover what becomes of Luke on December 18th when the movie opens, and we are also guessing Disney will be amping up a second wave of promotion and merchandise following the movie’s debut with Luke Skywaker and more of the original cast as well.

It’s No Accident Luke Skywalker Is Missing From Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer #3

Noticeably absent from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers, promotion and merchandise is Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (though an image has leaked online), which director JJ Abrams offers is no accident.

“These are good questions to be asking,” Abrams responded to the Sydney Herald. “I can’t wait for you to find out the answer. It’s no accident.”

Abrams also offered an update on the final cut of the movie.

“The visual effects process goes on for so long that my guess is we’ll be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks even though the cut will be done before then,” Abrams said. “We’re in the editing room working on the cut going over visual effects and doing reviews. We still have scoring session with John Williams who is a god when it comes to music. So it’s been an ongoing surreal experience, and I just cannot wait for the movie to be out in the world.”

Abrams also let it be known he is really excited by the fact that non-Star Wars fans want to see the movie.

“We were all thrilled that the trailer was seen and embraced, and especially people who said they are really not fans of Star Wars, but are interested in seeing this thing now. It’s a testament to the amazing work this cast and crew have done and the studio in rolling out the movie in the way they have.”

“As an actor, that would be more fun to play,” Hamill noted about an evil Luke. “When we finished [Episode II], I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I’ll have Han Solo in my crosshairs, and I’ll be about to kill him, or the Princess, or somebody that we care about.”

Hamill also offered up some details on how his evil Luke would look like, which seems what Lucas may have borrowed from for Anakin’s own look in the prequels (via vulture).

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits December 18th.

As the film recently finished shooting in Ireland, a local news crew spotted Mark Hamill pouring beer at a local pub, the Bridge Bar

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22148:]]

The Force is still strong with Mark Hamill as the actor has taken to Twitter to shoot down the latest rumors that stated the actor almost died while filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Reports surfaced that Hamill slipped on Skellig Michael and was caught by an Irish guide, saving Hamill from impending doom.

Skellig Michael is known for being a dangerous place as a couple of tourists have actually died there as the climb is filled with rough terrain and rugged steps.

Mark Hamill posted on Twitter that the reports are “#falsenews.”

“Fabricated stories usually contain a seed of truth,” Hamill tweeted. “Didn’t so much as stub a toe on Skellig Michael. But thanks for your concern!”

Mark Hamill stars as Luke Skywalker for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which gets released this December. It’s also thought the actor will be back for Episode VIII, which is currently prepping for filming in Ireland as well.
