More To The Flash Season 3 Than Flashpoint Says Grant Gustin

The Season 2 finale of The Flash saw Barry go back in time to save his mother which will impact Season 3 as the timeline has been altered.

The title of the first episode of Season 3 is “Flashpoint,” which fans will recognize as the similar DC Comics storyline.

Talking at Comic-Con with Kevin Smith and IMDb, Grant Gustin reveals why Barry went back in time.

“People were like, ‘Why did he do that?’ And I think that he wasn’t going to do that, but I think that sitting on that porch, having just defeated Zoom, Iris says to Barry what he’s always wanted to hear, and he feels empty inside,” explained Gustin. “That was the moment… As selfish as it was that Barry wanted his parents, I think it’s more about ‘these two speedsters took away their life because of me and they deserve to have a chance at life. I can’t do this, I need to give them that chance.'”

Supergirl has also come over to The CW for its Season 2, and Kevin Smith asked The Flash cast if any of the first few Season 3 scripts have mentioned Kara Danvers. Gustin says the scripts haven’t and offers The Flash Season 3 isn’t totally about Flashpoint (note: The CW announced a mega DC TV crossover which will feature Supergirl).

“Not yet,” Gustin responded when asked if a Supergirl storyline was involved in the first few Flash Season 3 scripts. “It’s pretty Flashpoint focused right now, which I think we are going to see the repercussions coming out of Flashpoint. There will be ramifications all season long from Flashpoint.”

Smith then asks if it’s an all-season Flashpoint.

“I think we can state Flashpoint does not last all season long,” Gustin said. “But there are permanent ramifications.”

“The Flash” Season 3 premiers Tuesday, October 4th also starring Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Keiynan Lonsdale and Tom Felton.

Kevin Smith Directing The Flash Season 3 Episode 7; Wants Arrow, Supergirl & Legends

Following Kevin Smith’s exellent episode of The Flash Season 2, it’s learned Smith will now be directing episode #7 of Season 3.

Den of Geek caught up with Kevin Smith who confirmed the news as well as stated he is still waiting on a call from Arrow.

“I know I’m going back to The Flash, first week of September, to direct episode 7 of season 3,” Smith said. “Still haven’t heard anything back from Arrow.”

Regarding Arrow, Kevin Smith says he wants to bring in his DC Comics character Onomatopoeia into the series.

“You know, I wish, it would be amazing because I would love to write and direct Onomatopoeia in the show,” Smith said. “Um, but I know they’re doing – what is it? – Wild Dog this year, as well as Vigilante, so maybe they’re just like ‘we don’t need you’, or whatever. But, at the moment, anyone over there raises a flag; I’m like ‘please, let me in!’ That’d be fun as fuck.”

Smith created Onomatopoeia back in Green Arrow #12. The character targets and kills heroes and has set his sights on the Arrow family in the comics.

Smith notes if he can’t get Arrow, he would like to do DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow or Supergirl.

“…even if they don’t, maybe I could do it on Flash, or Legends Of Tomorrow, or now Supergirl as well. There’s a couple of shows there,” Smith said.

Kevin Smith Wants Peter Weller, Edgar Wright & More For Buckaroo Banzai TV Series

Last night saw it revealed that Kevin Smith is developing a TV series based on the 1984 Buckaroo Banzai film.

Now Smith has released new details, which includes mention he wants original star, Peter Weller, as the bad guy of the TV series, that all of the original cast is welcome to return, and that he wants to use an all-star roster of directors and writers with Edgar Wright, Richard Kelley and WD Richter mentioned.

Via Instagram:

I’ve been tapped to adapt BUCKAROO BANZAI into a series, which is something of a dream come true: I’ve loved the 1984 movie since I was a kid. My well-read copy of the film’s novelization by screenwriter Earl Mac Rauch is my Bible. But I’m not gonna be directing this alone: it is my intent to assemble a dream team of cult movie directors for the 10 episodes of this #BuckarooBanzai series – folks like #DonnieDarko director Richard Kelly, #ShaunOfTheDead director @edgar_wright and of course, the #Banzai director himself – WD Richter. Same with the writing: I want to bring in the creator Rauch himself to write the flashback episode detailing the night the black Lectroids came to Earth (with the help of #OrsonWelles and his War of the Worlds broadcast.) The other scripts will be penned by other #BlueBlazeIrregulars who worship this flick like I do. Cast-wise, I’m hoping to get the great Peter Weller to play Team Banzai’s greatest enemy, Hanoi Xan! And any cast member from the original who wants to play is gonna be welcomed like returning conquering heroes. Long story short? Don’t worry: I’m not gonna #KevinSmith this Banzai series at all. It’s gonna be 100% true Buckaroo. Which means the watermelon will NEVER be explained. #MGM #yoyodyne #buckaroobanzaiagainsttheworldcrimeleague

Kevin Smith Developing Buckaroo Banzai TV Series

Following a fan-favorite episode of The Flash (and hopefully Arrow), it’s learned Kevin Smith is developing a Buckaroo Banzai TV series.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! was a quirky sci-fi movie starring Peter Weller that premiered in 1984.

Smith, on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, mentioned details about the new project where he revealed the Buckaroo Banzai TV series came about as a result of his positive work on directing an episode of The Flash.

“[Buckaroo Banzai is] one of my favorite movies in the world and largely responsible for the weird s‑‑‑ that I make, because that movie was supposed to be one thing but it did it in another way. It just did it very off-center,” Smith said.

Kevin Smith also offered a possible take on the new Buckaroo Banzai TV series.

“Basically, you just do the entire movie for season 1, and then season 2 you finally do the sequel we’ve all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Versus the World Crime League,” Smith offered, reports EW.com.

The Buckaroo Banzia movie also starred Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd, with the plot described as: Buckaroo Banzai is a rock-star/brain-surgeon/comic-book-hero/samurai who along with his group, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, must stop evil creatures from the 8th dimension (all named John) who are trying to conquer our dimension. He is helped by Penny Pretty, who is a dead ringer for his ex-wife, and some good extra-dimensional beings who look and talk like Jamaicans.

No sequel for the movie was ever developed, but the World Crime League was teased in the end credits.

Zack Stentz Writing Booster Gold Movie or TV Series

Update: Booster Gold movie confirmed.

It’s learned Zack Stentz, known for writing Thor, X-Men: First Class, last night’s Kevin Smith-directed episode of The Flash and the upccoming Power Rangers movie, is writing a Booster Gold movie or TV series for DC.

While Stentz doesn’t confirm Booster Gold while appearing on Smith’s Fatman on Batman podcast, according to BMD, it’s for Booster Gold.

Stentz explained he got the gig to write The Flash because he is working on a DC project with EP Greg Berlanti (who is rumored to be directing the Booster Gold movie), and that during some downtime, they offered Stentz an episode of The Flash to write.

“Well, interestingly enough I was working with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and Sara Schechter, the amazing trio that make that amazing machine [TV] run, and we were working on a different project that I’m not really allowed to talk about right now…”

The camera then switched to Kevin Smith and co-host Marc Bernardin who said they know what it is, with Smith giving it two thumbs up and Bernardin saying “it’s awesome.”

It’s possible Stentz may actually be developing a Booster Gold TV series with Berlanti, as Booster Gold was once supposed to air on SyFy. In addition, Berlanti, Kreisberg and Schechter are all involved with DC TV and not the current movies (at least to date), though Berlanti did write and produce the 2011 Green Lantern movie. It is possible following the poorly received Batman Vs. Superman that WB may have turned to their successful TV creators for help (smart move).

Later on in the podcast also saw Stentz reveal he will be writing more Flash episodes next season and has been elevated to consulting producer on the series.

Charlie Hunnam & Alexander Skarsgard Were Up To Play Thor

It’s learned Chris Hemsworth wasn’t the only actor up to play Thor for Marvel Studios.

Thor writer Zack Stentz appeared on the Kevin Smith Fatman On Batman podcast and discussed writing Thor where he let it be known Charlie Hunnam and Alexander Skarsgard were up to play the son of Odin.

“…Thor. It’s like [writing] big blond guy. It could have been one of eight big blond guys,” Stentz said. “I was there. I was like, ‘Is that Alex Skarsgard? Is that the Sons of Anarchy guy?”

Kevin Smith then asked if Thor might have been Alexander Skarsgard.

“Yeah. Those were the other two main candidates who are Charlie Hunnam and  Skarsard,” Stentz said. “I love those guys, but I think Hemsworth was the right choice. Just that frickin’ charm he brought.”

Stentz also let it be known he and Ashely Miller were responsible for choosing to use Coulson (Clark Gregg) in Thor after Marvel told them Samuel L. Jackson wouldn’t be available due to the negotiations not working out. Stentz said they also chose to use Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye.

Another actor up to play Thor includes Tom Hiddleston, who we all know went on to play Loki.

It’s also been sad WB had created Justice League concept art a while back with Charlie Hunnam as The Flash.

Kevin Smith Confirms Geoff Johns Writing Batman Script With Ben Affleck

On his latest podcast, Kevin Smith confirms that Geoff Johns is writing the new Batman solo movie script along with Ben Affleck.

Affleck previously mentioned he was working on a project with Johns, and it was also recently confirmed Affleck wrote a Batman script.

Here’s what Kevin Smith had to say about Geoff Johns working on Batman:

[Ben Affleck’s] been working on a [Batman] solo script with Geoff Johns as well. Last conversation I had with Geoff Johns, I was like, “Are you working on it?” And he said, “Yeah.” I said, “What’s it like, man? How do you co-write with someone?” And he’s going, “We just break it up. He takes halves, and I take halves and then we write, and then we switch material, and then he goes over mine, and I go over his.” That sounds so f—ing fun man.

Smith also previously let it be known the Batman script will be better than the Batman Vs. Superman script.

It’s been said Ben Affleck hasn’t signed on yet for the Batman movie, but WB just announced release dates for two new DC movies, with one of them more than likely for the new Batman film.

So it seems we’re just waiting on the official announcement from WB about Batman. Maybe at this Summer’s Comic-Con?

Kevin Smith Says Ben Affleck Batman Script Will Be Better Than Batman Vs. Superman

With it recently confirmed Ben Affleck has written a solo Batman movie script, following his positive portrayal in Batman Vs. Superman, now many people are excited about the next adventures of the Dark Knight.

King of the comic fanboys Kevin Smith, who wasn’t all that happy with the characterization in Batman Vs. Superman and noted Batman in the movie was “not the world’s greatest detective,” now says Affleck’s script will be better than Batman Vs. Superman.

“I guarantee you he’s read everything [Batman vs. Superman review-wise] … and he’s like: ‘OK, these are all the pitfalls my script isn’t going to fall into,’ ” Smith told the Freep Film Fest in Detroit

Kevin Smith even spun it (as he’s known to do), that Affleck could even get an Oscar nomination for the Batman movie.

“[Ben Affleck] could get another nomination or even a win for his Batman film,” Smith said, as Affleck won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting (original screenplay) and Argo (best picture).

Ben Affleck also previously let it be known that DC Entertainment chief creative office, Batman Vs. Superman producer and DC Comics writer Geoff Johns had helped out on the Batman movie script.

The Batman solo movie has yet to be announced and Affleck is currently only signed on to do Justice League Part 1 and Part 2, but he is appearing in August’s Suicide Squad.

With the critical reception so poor for Batman Vs. Superman, and depending how the movie does in the long run at the box office, it’s possible WB could fast track a new Batman movie starring Affleck.

Kevin Smith Changes His Tune For Batman vs. Superman

Well, that didn’t take long.

Following Kevin Smith blasting Batman Vs. Superman for not having any heart and comparing Ben Affleck’s Batman to Donald Trump, now Smith has changed his tune.

Kevin Smith happens to be directing an episode of The Flash and posted on Instagram that after watching Batman vs. Superman a second time, he has found the movie’s heart. Awe.

Anybody know where Smith’s spine is at?

Smith was also involved in promoting Batman Vs. Superman.

So to thank me for sneaking him into the @dccomics universe, Jay took me to see @batmanvsuperman again (my second time, his first). I liked the flick more on my second viewing (see 1 hour review on my #KevinSmith #youtube channel). I’d said the film didn’t have any heart, but after the second viewing, I actually found the heart in #batmanvsuperman: it’s in the viewer. And the viewer I watched the blockbuster with the second time was all agog, eyes as big as saucers. During the Knightmare sequence, we shared a moment that even elevated the flick for me: when the winged New Gods nasties attack #Batman and take him down, Jay (age 40) & I (age 45) simultaneously looked at one another and whispered reverently “ParaDemons.” It was a beautiful moment shared by two lifelong fanboys who were delighted to see their childhood flash before their eyes.

Meta-Mewes! The folks at @cwtheflash were kind enough to include a cameo for my hetero life mate @jaymewes in the episode of #TheFlash I directed. As a longtime lover of everything that ever aired on @thecw, Jay was ecstatic to have scripted lines in one of his favorite shows (plus, he got to visit the @cw_arrow sets across the lot). But I also found an opportunity to sneak #jaymewes into another scene as well – this time as a masked super villain. And even though he had no lines as the Meta and is unrecognizable, THIS was the role that reduced him to tears. I’ve seen #JayMewes cry twice in my life: one time it was about the birth of his only begotten daughter, the other time was after he wrapped his super villain bit on #TheFlash. Jay gave me a huge hug and said “You made my dream come true, Moves.” You see, Jay never planned for @jayandsilentbob; while he certainly inspired the cinematic duo, it was never his dream to play Jay in the movies – it was just something that happened to him. But this boy LOVES his comic books – so much so that I’ve never heard him say he’s ever read a bad comic book (and I know for a fact he went deep on the I’ll-fated @marvel “New Universe” titles back in the day). He doesn’t dissect superhero material, he just consumes. Analyzing is for academics: Jay’s just there to see his heroes come to life. Kevin Smith Wasn’t A Big Fan of Batman Vs. Superman

Kevin Smith, who was actually involved in promoting Batman Vs. Superman, apparently wasn’t a big fan of the movie, particularly in regards to the story and Superman.

Smith, who will be directing an upcoming episode of The Flash, goes on to say on his podcast (via Geek Tyrant) that while the visuals of the film looked good, Superman was off (which we agree with).

“Remember before when we were talking about Flash, and that it has heart, humor, and spectacle. The movie I felt like didn’t really have a heart. It was certainly fucking humorless, there was nothing funny going on in that world whatsoever, but it had lots of spectacle. Like you can’t take that away from Snyder. Boy, he knows how to like compose a frame and how to setup a shot. Beautiful visual stylist but you need more than just the pictures, you need like characterization and these characters seemed off character, particularly Superman.”

Smith is also a big Batman fan and went on to joke about Affleck’s portrayal comparing Bruce Wayne and Batman to Donald Trump. You can listen to the podcast below.

Garman: He just wasn’t that bright.

Smith: Certainly not the world’s greatest detective! More like Bat-Trump.

Garman: He was Bat-Trump. A rich guy with a bad attitude. Who really hated immigrants.

Smith: He hates immigrants in a big bad way!

Garman: I’m gonna build a wall around Krypton, and I’m gonna make them pay for it. I’m going to build a wall around the Hall of Justice, it’s what I do. I build walls and they’re huge.”

AMC today announced that it has ordered a new late-night talk show, “Geeking Out” (Working Title). Hosted by Kevin Smith (“Comic Book Men,” “Clerks”) and Greg Grunberg (“Heroes, “Heroes Reborn” “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”), the 30-minute show will take a timely look at pop culture through a fanboy lens and feature talk, clips, celebrity interviews and out-of-the-studio segments. The series is produced by Matador Content and The Weinstein Company in association with Bandwagon Media with Jay Peterson, Patrick Reardon, Smith and Grunberg serving as executive producers. The show is expected to premiere with a special episode covering Comic-Con International: San Diego in late July, with eight more episodes to run weekly starting in late summer.

“Kevin and Greg are both true fans of this content, and share a deep passion for talking about it, and engaging other fans about it. But it is their natural chemistry as hosts that really brings this idea together,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “As part of our growing non-fiction slate, we wanted to create a broadly entertaining venue for hardcore fans and general viewers where we can break down all things fanboy on a weekly basis; and we wanted to bring those fans great interviews and exclusive looks into the world of fanboy culture. We look forward to sharing this highly entertaining duo with our viewers.”

“AMC has been my TV family for five seasons of ‘Comic Book Men’ now, so I know that ‘Geeking Out’ is in the perfect, fan-friendly network hands,” said Smith. “I can’t wait to lose fluids on the airwaves of my favorite channel over the genre gems we’re gonna get insider access to due to gregarious Greg’s bonafides! And to make it even more of a family affair, ‘Geeking Out’ lets me work with the Weinsteins again – the two guys who started my career 22 years ago! I’m lucky to be working at all, let alone working with friends and family on a dream show where all we do is talk about all the media that makes us moist!”

“I get all my work from my friends. Now it’s time for me to take advantage of those relationships even more,” said Grunberg. “I am going to get every single genre-based writer, director and actor I know to come on our show and geek out with us. And they’re going to thank me for it. I love how Kevin Smith smells and we fit together like two hibernating fan-bears. Thanks to AMC and the Weinsteins, the rest of the world is going to get to see what’s inside our dark, dank geek cave. It’s going to be a fun 30 minutes, if I can just get Kevin to stop talking and smoking.”

AMC’s opportunistic approach to non-fiction has allowed the network to identify and bring to air a unique mix of shows that complement its scripted originals and movies. The network’s growing non-fiction slate includes “Talking Dead,” the #1 talk show on television, “Comic Book Men” and new originals including “The Making of the Mob,” “The American West,” special events like the recent “Lennon 75” concert and the forthcoming “Ride With Norman Reedus.”

Overseeing “Geeking Out” from AMC are Eliot Goldberg, senior vice president of non-fiction and alternative programming, Marco Bresaz, vice president of non-fiction and alternative programming and Kelly Nash, director of non-fiction and alternative programming.

Kevin Smith also told Variety the following about Affleck as Batman:

“Right away, he’s the best looking Batman we’ve ever seen. The hardest thing to nail about Batman is Bruce Wayne, because that’s where you’ve got no mask and you’ve got to be a human being. But that dude is Bruce Wayne, so he’s born to play that role.

Now it looks like he is the best Batman we’ve seen so far.”

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
