Kevin Smith Says Justice League Movie Universe Crossing Over With TV A Possibility

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23982:]]

With the controversy surrounding the casting of The Flash in the Justice League movie universe, with Ezra Miller, and the TV universe, Grant Gustin, there may come a potential resolution.

Have them both appear on screen together.

While it has been said the DC movies and TV shows are separate, if you happen to be a fan of the comics, you know there is an infinite number of possibilities that could make the two connect — all we have to do is point to this season of The Flash as evidence enough as we see there are alternate universes and portals.

Kevin Smith recently co-hosted the “Dawn of the Justice League” special with DC Entertainment chief creative officer and DC comic book writer Geoff Johns. Following the special, Smith appeared on his podcast and mentioned he talked with Johns about the possibility of the DC movie universe crossing over with the TV universe, which was cut from the show (via CBR):

“We did a piece where we talked about — I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out,” Smith said on the podcast. “But the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like [to Johns], ‘Could they fucking crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that. Think about this, you can have Ezra Miller be the Flash and you could also have Grant be the Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work.”

Even Arrow‘s Stephen Amell has campaigned to appear in the movie universe and backed Gustin as The Flash. Perhaps either Part 1 or Part 2 of the Justice League movies will be some sort of adpaptation of DC’s Crisis On Infinite Earths featuring all the DC heroes on screen together?

Ezra Miller may have hinted at the possibility of a crossover as he talked about other realities in the “Dawn of the Justice League” Flash segment:

Watch: Geoff Johns Talks Green Lantern From Dawn of the Justice League Special

Noticeably absent from the Justice League concept art is none other than Green Lantern.

We already know a Green Lantern Corps movie is planned for 2020, and that’s about all we know.

Green Lantern concept art was previously released at last Summer’s Comic-Con (see below), but it still has yet to make its way officially online. Interestingly enough, the art looked a lot like Chris Pine, who recently denied GL rumors, and has a role in Wonder Woman as Steve Trevor. The “Dawn of Justice” special didn’t feature the art, either.

During tonight’s “Dawn of the Justice League” special, Kevin Smith asks DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns to fill them in about something nobody knows.

Johns said Green Lantern will be coming to the Justice League Universe.

“We’ve been to the bottom of the oceans. We’ve been to ancient Green mythology. We’ve been to the past and future of Flash. We’ve been to the digital world with Cyborg,” Johns said. “We still got to go to space. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps will be coming to join the Justice League Universe.”

While Geoff Johns really didn’t offer much, if we take his words literally, it sounds as if the Green Lantern Corps already exists and will be making themselves known to the rest of the Justice League characters (at least that’s my understanding) some time down the road. Johns’ words also seem to confirm the rumors of more than one Earth-based Green Lantern  (as Johns says “Lanterns”).

A potential big Green Lantern spoiler recently hit the net as well.

Kevin Smith Directing An Episode Of The Flash

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23724:]]

Kevin Smith will be directing an episode of The Flash.

EW.com reports Smith will direct an episode of The Flash, which is due to air in May. The CW announced the news at the Television Critics Association’s press tour earlier today.

Kevin Smith, of course, is known to be a big comic book fan having written issues of Batman, Daredevil, and lots more. Smith also penned the defunct Superman Lives script and has his Comic Book Men series airing on AMC. Smith’s voice was recently featured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and is regularly involved with promoting Batman Vs. Superman and Suicide Squad.

Update: Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg also offered the following about having Kevin Smith direct an episode (via Collider):

“I literally got a phone call from his agent saying that Kevin Smith’s favorite show is The Flash, and if was there an episode for him, and the answer was yes. It was really that simple. I didn’t know him personally, I’ve just been such a huge fan of his work.”

…But of course, there’s the whole publicity angle of it, as well:

“As responsible executive producers, we always have to look at that, but we would never look at that at the expense of our own show. Knowing what a fan he is, and knowing the scrutiny he’s going to be under, I know he’s going to bring it to his fullest, and I’m just so excited.”

“The Flash” returns Tuesday, January 19th on the CW at 8pm ET starring Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh and Jesse L. Martin.

Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith Tease Suicide Squad Trailer: “It’s F’n Impressive”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23541:]]

Earlier today saw WB announce two new DC specials, which will see a new trailer for Suicide Squad debut.

Kevin Smith is hosting the Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of the Justice League special which will feature DC Entertainment chief creative officer and writer Geoff Johns.

Now the duo have taken to Instagam to tease the arrival of the Suicide Squad trailer. In addition, Smith let it be known that the Suicide Squad trailer is “f’n impressive” on his podcast.

The Suicide Squad trailer premiers following The Flash, Tuesday, January 19th at 9pm EST on the CW (full details on the announcement can be found here which includes mention of the first Wonder Woman footage).

Kevin Smith on the podcast:

“I saw the Suicide Squad trailer and it was f—ing impressive. Like, hats off to the f—ing marketing people and the trailer I saw, the second trailer. I’m not gonna spoil anything about it. Tell you this much, it’s got a lot of footage, song choice is perfect. That’s what they’re building. A moody campaign and like it’s not ‘This is [frick]ing villains fighting villains and shit.’ they’re building something that people don’t really read comics are interested in. I find it very fascinating what they’re doing. So I saw this second trailer, it is f—ing wonderful. It’s got a tone but I would say the second trailer has got a lot of humor and it’s not humor of the simple variety. They’ll play out a joke with dialogue, not just a quip. Some of the shots are goddamn gorgeous. I like this guy, (David Ayer) he’s a great director. Based on those two trailers, give him whatever he wants, let him make more DC movies. He’s got an eye man. Can’t spoil it, but it’s coming soon and that’s the good news.”

Smith on Instagram:

SQUAD GOALS! Harley Quinn’s bat! Deadshot’s mask! Katana’s Soultaker Sword! @geoffjohnsdc & I will show you these sacred #suicidesquad totems & lots of @batmanvsuperman stuff during the #dccomics movie special airing on @thecw JAN 19! See the world premiere of the EPIC new @SuicideSquadWB trailer (it is sublime perfection) and footage from the set of the currently shooting #wonderwoman movie! Bizarro Coming To Supergirl

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23413:]]

It’s learned that Bizarro is coming to Supergirl.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed the news on Kevin Smith’s podcast with mention plans are underway.

No specific details were mentioned, so it’s unclear if it will be the Bizarro Superman version or the Bizarro Supergirl version.

It’s probably more than likely Bizarro-Girl, who is from Htrae/Bizarro World, and has opposite powers.

Kreisberg also said Supergirl will be going up against Toyman, Winn Schott’s incarcerated father Winslow Sr., to be played by Henry Czerny.

Supergirl returns January 4th on CBS.

20 Plus Star Wars: The Force Awakens Easter Eggs

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23374:]]

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens now in theaters, check out a batch of Easter Eggs featured in the movie.

Obvious spoilers follow if you haven’t seen the movie.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

• Simon Pegg plays the junk dealer, Unkar Plutt, who pays Rey her rations and wanted to steal BB-8.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23375:]]

• James Bond Daniel Craig plays the Stormtrooper who Rey uses the Jedi Mind Trick on to escape.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23376:]]

• In one scene on the Millennium Falcon, when Finn and Rey are looking for parts, Finn holds in his hand the sphere used to train Luke in the use of the Lightsaber, the Marksman-H combat remote.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23377:]]

• Finn accidently turns on the Holochess game.

• JJ Abrams gave two of his friends roles as Stormtroopers: Alias and Lost composer Michael Giacchino, and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, who play Stormtroopers FN-3181 and FN-9330, respectively.

• Poe Dameron is named after Abrams’ daughter’s toy polar bear (named Po) and his assistant, Morgan Dameron, who has a role as a Resistance officer.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23378:]]

• Warwick Davis, who played Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi, is featured in The Force Awakens as Wollivan, a tavern-dweller in Maz Kanata’s bar (he’s the short creature with the short, pink snout and the puckered eyes).

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23379:]]

• Boba Fett’s flag (and others) is featured in the first scene walking to Maz Kanata’s place. I also speculate there were no bounty hunters in the movie because Boba Fett didn’t first appear until the second movie released, Empire Strikes Back (so it’s safe to assume we’ll see them in Episode VIII).

• 30 Rock actor Judah Friedlander plays one of the patrons in Maz Kanata’s bar.

• Another bar patron is Star Wars fan D.C. Barns, who won a background role in the movie through the Force For Change charity raffle.

• Kevin Smith is confirmed (via EW) to be a part of The Force Awakens by providing his voice for a character.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23380:]]

• Thomas Brodie-Sangster, of the Maze Runner movies, plays First Order Petty Officer Thanisson.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23381:]]

• Greg Grunberg, known for Lost (and Heroes Reborn) and friends with Abrams since Kindergarten, plays X-Wing pilot Snap Wexley.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23382:]]

• Ken Leung, another Lost alumnus, plays Resistance Admiral Statura.

• JJ Abrams father plays Captain Cypress.

• JJ Abrams grandfather, Harry Kelvin, gets a mention with Rey telling BB-8: “Niima Outpost is that way. Stay off Kelvin Ridge. Keep away from the sinking fields to the north or you’ll drown in the sand.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23383:]]

• Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Bille Lourd, plays Lieutenant Connix.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23384:]]

• Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz provide the voice of BB-8.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23385:]]

• Kylo Ren’s real name is revealed to be Ben —  as in “Ben Solo.” Get it? Also, possibly named after Ben Kenobi.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23386:]]

• Snoke tells Ren to bring him the girl, which plays off the Emperor telling Vader to bring Luke to him. Fun fact: Snoke is featured as a Hologram in The Force Awakens, with the designers having said Snoke isn’t really that large, but have said Snoke stands at 7 feet tall.

Update:

• Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda are featured in the Rey lighsaber vision scene.

It could also be argued the entire movie was one big Star Wars Easter Egg as it was a homage to many other instances and scenes in the Star Wars universe ranging from the Death Star; to familiar faces (Darth Vader’s mask, Admiral Akbar, Nien Numb); New Hope‘s trash compactor gets a reference by Han Solo; General Hux and Kylo Ren argue about the Clone Army), and lots more.

Spot anything we missed?

Watch: Mark Hamill Pitches Evil Luke Skywalker

Check out video above featuring Mark Hamill telling the story about how he pitched Luke Skywalker going to the Dark Side to George Lucas following Empire Strikes Back.

The video recently surfaced from ten years ago when Hamill appeared on Jon Favreau’s Dinner for Five series, which interestingly enough also has JJ Abrams as a guest.

Some fans are speculating Abrams may have turned Luke to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“As an actor, that would be more fun to play,” Hamill noted about an evil Luke. “When we finished [Episode II], I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I’ll have Han Solo in my crosshairs, and I’ll be about to kill him, or the Princess, or somebody that we care about.”

Hamill also offered up some details on how his evil Luke would look like, which seems what Lucas may have borrowed from for Anakin’s own look in the prequels (via vulture).

Kevin Smith Wants Ronda Rousey For Captain Marvel (Video)

The king geek himself, Kevin Smith, wants Ronda Rousey as Captain Marvel.

Rousey, the MMS superstar fighter and actress, recently mentioned she wouldn’t mind playing Carol Danvers, and then when her comments went viral, she posted fan-made art of herself as Captain Marvel.

Now TMZ catches up with Kevin Smith in the above video asking Smith if he thinks Ronda Rousey would be a good choice to play Captain Marvel.

“See her in that picture?” Smith asks, shaking his head up and down in the affirmative. “Come on. You don’t even need to think at this point. There’s an image. We can see it. She looks amazing. Lord knows, she’s one of the only people that would play a superhero that could actually beat the sh-t out of somebody. I would like to see it happen. It seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. She followed a dream, and holy sh-t, she’s an ass kicker, man. If that doesn’t sound like a superhero to me, I don’t know what that is.”

Captain Marvel has a November 2, 2018 release date with no director or actors attached as of yet.

AMC Trumps Ratings On Bad Shows: The Walking Dead Previews On Comic Book Men

“The Herded Sheep”

By:  Chris “DOC” Bushley

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:723:]]

After last week’s midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men hit the airways. I was really looking forward to a show that would spotlight our glorious hobby while adding in all the hilarity of a Kevin Smith production. But, alas, I apparently set my standards too high. By the first commercial break I was pretty much over the Pawn Stars duplicate, looking only forward to the following week’s preview for The Walking Dead

Yes, AMC put the preview for episode nine of The Walking Dead in the first commercial break of Comic Book Men. Smart, very smart actually! How better to spike the ratings of a brand new show than to pull along the enraptured audience from one of their smash hit series! Just embed the previews for the next week within the new show’s commercial break, instead of at the conclusion of said show as per usual, and you have an instant ratings cushion! Brilliant for them, not so much for us. I would really love to see how drastic the ratings fell immediately after The Walking Dead preview concluded — because I was out of there faster than a fat kid in dodge ball!

So, I was thrilled this week as episode nine of The Walking Dead concluded, and we were graced with previews for episode ten immediately after! Until, AMC revealed that a sneak peak of episode ten would be shown during Comic Book Men! “Noooo! Well, I guess I could watch until the first commercial break,” I slyly convinced myself. But as I watched Kevin Smith and his collection of oddities amuse themselves with discussions of future self defilement and which super powers they would like to have, I realized I had been herded into a corral once again. If donkey wants the carrot, he pulls the wagon I guess! So, as the first and second commercial breaks fell by the wayside I looked at the clock. Finally, thirty-six minutes into this mind numbing “comic book show” I was given what I had come for — The Walking Dead sneak peak! All twenty-five seconds of it! I had spent thirty-six minutes watching forty-somethings attempt to play hockey, for a whopping twenty-five seconds of my favorite show! I will admit it openly, you got me AMC — but never again!

We here at the CBN offices offer to you a vast array of comic book, movie, game and television information. So, if you don’t enjoy having to wade through shows that you could care less about just to get your fix of the ones you do — I suggest this. Check out your favorite previews and sneak peaks here! Why should a mediocre show get trumped up ratings just because you want to see something from another show?! Let it falter, let the creators know that their product is not as good as the numbers show so that they can make it a better product! I am a huge fan of Kevin Smith, from his movies to the comics he has done, but this show just is not good, and it should not reap the rewards from a highly better show. AMC is smart, let’s be smarter and not fall into the trap they have set for us again. If you like Comic Book Men, great, enjoy it, but if the only reason you have it on is to see snippets of The Walking Dead — turn the channel! We will have it all for you here later and you won’t have to feel like a sheep anymore!
