Guardians of the Galaxy 2 featured surprise characters in the form of the original Guardians from the comics including Sylvester Stallone as Stakar, Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, Michelle Yeoh as Aleta, a CGI version of Krugarr, Mainframe voiced by Miley Cyrus and of course Michael Rooker as Yondu.
A Guardians of the Galaxy 2 post-credit scene also saw Slvester Stallone reveal that the team had come back together following the death of Youndu.

So is there a future for the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU?
Michael Rosenbaum hopes so.
Earlier today saw Michael Rosenbaum tweet out to Kevin Smith that he hopes James Gunn brings back himself and Sylvster Stallone:
Love @ThatKevinSmith – one of the most genuine guys in the biz. Great chat. Hope you’re right & @JamesGunn brings me & @TheSlyStallone back

James Gunn is spearheading the Marvel Cosmic Universe and previously let it be known that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will feature the last iteration of the current team. Maybe the original Guardians will get their own movie at some point or even team up with the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or Guardians of the Galaxy 4?
