James Gunn addressed multiple DCU topics on the Peacemaker Season 2 podcast and in fan Q&A on Threads — touching on the futures of The Flash and Wonder Woman, Superman’s place in the DCU, and even why Krypto can’t just meet people.
The Flash and Wonder Woman in the DCU
When asked about the status of The Flash and Wonder Woman and if they’re DC canon during the Peacemaker Season 2 podcast, Gunn responded:
“I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see. I mean, they’ll exist eventually. Whether they exist now, I don’t know.”
The Flash’s future remains unclear following the 2023 film’s massive box office failure, which saw Ezra Miller last portray the character. Many fans have since called for The CW’s Grant Gustin to take over the role in the DCU.
As for Wonder Woman, Gunn’s comments come as reports indicate a new Wonder Woman movie is already being fast-tracked. Gunn has previously said DCU movies will only move forward if the script is good enough.
Why Superman Isn’t in the Justice Gang?
On Threads, a fan asked why Superman hasn’t officially joined a Justice League-type team in Gunn’s DCU, despite being close to its members. Gunn replied:
“Well I think there could be a few reasons but, first off, you’d have to ask how comfortable Superman would be in a team financed by one of the world’s biggest corporations — a team that also promotes that corporation.”
When the fan suggested Superman still acts like an unofficial member, Gunn agreed:
“Yeah he is like a team member. But he’s an independent guy our Clark.”
Gunn Defends Krypto’s Name — and Explains Why He’s Not a Public Pup
Another fan joked that naming Superman’s dog “Krypto” was lazy writing. Gunn defended the name:
“I’d consider naming my dog Eartho if I was stranded on another planet and he was the last memory I had of home.”
When asked how Clark could introduce Krypto without giving away his secret identity, Gunn had a darker answer:
“Our Krypto can’t meet people like that because he might tear them apart.”
Upcoming DCU releases
