Dredd 2 Still Not Happening Says Karl Urban

Sorry, Dredd fans. A sequel is still not happening.

Contrary to some recent reports on the internet which apparently mixed up Karl Urban’s words, the actor says no Dredd 2 movie is in development.

“Dredd update: Unfortunately a sequel is no closer to happening, options have been discussed but there is no sequel in ‘development,'” Urban tweeted earlier today.

At the recent Denver Comic-Con, Karl Urban remarked that he blamed the failure for the first Dredd film on marketing. Urban noted that while Dredd didn’t do that good in theaters, the DVD sales skyrocketed in the U.S. selling 750,000 copies. Urban said it was “clear the audience had discovered it.”

Dredd was released in 2012 with a budget of around $50 million, but only brought in $35.6 million worldwide.

A producer on Dredd said the reason the sequel isn’t getting made is flat out because of money. Adi Shankar further stated that adding a big name to star along side Urban – like Dwayne Johnson – would help.

Karl Urban Says Skurge Is Fantastic In Thor: Ragnarok

Marvel Studios recently announced Karl Urban will be appearing in Thor: Ragnarok, much to the delight of fans everywhere, playing Skurge, who also goes by the name of Executioner in the comic books.

IGN caught up with Urban at a press event for Star Trek Beyond in which the actor said Skurge is fantastic in the movie.

“I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved — and the cast list dropped yesterday — and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the character is fantastic. He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.”

Urban also teased Skurge may look like his comic book counterpart in Thor 3.

Suffice to say,” he laughed, “I have it in my contract that I don’t have to shave my head until after my Star Trek press!”

It’s also noted Karl Urban is reading up on the Thor comic books (Urban tweeted out the below image), and Urban wouldn’t comment on signing a mult-picture deal with Marvel.

“Thor: Ragnarok” has a November 3, 2017 release also starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

Karl Urban wants Dredd 2 on either Amazon Prime or Netflix.

The actor tweeted out in response to a fan’s recommendation: “Dredd 2: I’d do it !! @netflix or @Amazon . There’s a gold mine of Awesome Mega city 1 stories!”

Karl Urban starred in Dredd in 2012, which is considered a big bomb at the box office, but has a huge cult following. The movie only brought in $35 million on a $50 million budget.

There was initial talk of doing a sequel by Urban; however, both the director and producer stated it’s not going to happen, with the reason cited being the obvious: It’s all about money

Maybe an Amazon or Netflix Dredd 2 movie/series is the way to go?

Suicide Squad Rumors Include Karl Urban and More

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18953:]]

Another day, another batch of Suicide Squad rumors.

With Tom Hardy bailing on the role of Rick Flag, names of actors said to be in contention have been hitting the net.

The latest comes from JoBlo, who states Karl Urban is being eyed for the role of a younger Rick Flag.

Apparently, Suicide Squad may have Rick Flag Sr. and Jr.; up for Rick Flag Sr. is said to be Ed Harris and Max Martini.

General Lane, Lois’ father, is also mentioned, with Gary Sinise possibly up for that role, which as noted would be a nice connection to Man of Steel and Superman.

Joe Manganiello is again said to be the first choice for Deathstroke; new details mention Deathstroke is a hired assassin competing with the Suicide Squad and not a part of the team.

The Joker is said to be inspired by Hannibal Lecter with scars all over his body from battles with Batman. It’s said The Joker plays mind games with people and twists their minds.

Info for the Enchantress states the character is “really powerful” and is instrumental in the film’s prison riot/breakout finale.

The Batman cameo that was previously rumored is said to feature Batman on a security camera, with an appearance by Ben Affleck dependent on his schedule.

I’ll also throw out that Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to appear as Lex Luthor, and how he could fit in the movie is that he partners up with the head of the Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller, as they both don’t like the Justice League (got the idea from watching the Justice League cartoon last night).

Suicide Squad has an August 6, 2016 release directed by David Ayer starring Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Viola Davis is said to be up for Amanda Waller.

Bring Back Almost Human Petition Launched

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:15213:]]

A couple of days ago it became known that Fox had cancelled Almost Human after one season.

The series starred Karl Urban as a futuristic cop paired up with Michael Ealy, who played a human-like android.

Reportedly, Almost Human started off strong with its Sunday night premiere, but when moved to Monday nights ratings dipped, with the final episode having around 5.6 million viewers.

It probably also didn’t help that Fox aired episodes out of order.

Now fans have taken to Change.org and created a petition to keep the show alive.

Presently it has over 3,600 signatures.

It’s also noted they don’t want Almost Human to go the way of Firefly – which saw Fox cancel it after one season and air the episodes out of order.

Almost Human Gets Cancelled: Stars Karl Urban

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:15186:]]

It’s being reported that Fox has cancelled the sci-fi series Almost Human after one season.

The series starred Karl Urban and Michael Ealy as police officers 35 years in the future with Urban forced to pair with an android (Ealy).

The series was off to a promising start with almost 10 million viewers in its Sunday night debut, but when it moved to Monday nights ratings dropped to around 5.63 million with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic (via THR).

It’s probably worth mentioning that Fox aired the episodes of Almost Human out of order.

They did the same for Firefly which saw a similar fate – lasting only one season.
