‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Likely Race Swapping Booster Gold With Donald Faison

It’s guessed that Booster Gold is coming to Legends of Tomorrow as Donald Faison has been announced to be playing a mystery character on the show which sounds a lot like the glory-seeking showboat from the future. Donald Faison is set to appear in the Season 7 finale as an unnamed mystery character seeking “fame, …

Greg Berlanti Confirms Booster Gold Movie

Following yesterday’s rumor, it’s now confirmed that a Booster Gold movie is in development.

Greg Berlanti, the showrunner of the CW DC TV series, confirmed Booster Gold is being written by Zack Stentz, who also is known for writing Thor, X-Men: First Class and the upcoming Power Rangers movie.

Berlanti also said he would like to direct the Booster Gold film.

When questioned if he would like to be the “Kevin Feige” of the DC films, Berlanti offered (via THR):

It’s never even really come up. Peter [Roth, president of Warner Bros. TV] knows how much I love the characters, and I like being part of this universe in any way that they’ll all allow and are interested in me being a part. That’s the truth. I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now. I’d probably direct that, or I would want to. But I don’t see my cup as limited. I actually think some of the stuff we get to do on the TV side is richer, deeper and more like the true comic books in the sense that you’re always able to explore a new thing the next week and the stories grow wider and wider.

No release date is set for Booster Gold, but DC does have three untitled DC release dates set: October 5, 2018, June 14, 2019 and  July 24, 2020.

Zack Stentz Writing Booster Gold Movie or TV Series

Update: Booster Gold movie confirmed.

It’s learned Zack Stentz, known for writing Thor, X-Men: First Class, last night’s Kevin Smith-directed episode of The Flash and the upccoming Power Rangers movie, is writing a Booster Gold movie or TV series for DC.

While Stentz doesn’t confirm Booster Gold while appearing on Smith’s Fatman on Batman podcast, according to BMD, it’s for Booster Gold.

Stentz explained he got the gig to write The Flash because he is working on a DC project with EP Greg Berlanti (who is rumored to be directing the Booster Gold movie), and that during some downtime, they offered Stentz an episode of The Flash to write.

“Well, interestingly enough I was working with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and Sara Schechter, the amazing trio that make that amazing machine [TV] run, and we were working on a different project that I’m not really allowed to talk about right now…”

The camera then switched to Kevin Smith and co-host Marc Bernardin who said they know what it is, with Smith giving it two thumbs up and Bernardin saying “it’s awesome.”

It’s possible Stentz may actually be developing a Booster Gold TV series with Berlanti, as Booster Gold was once supposed to air on SyFy. In addition, Berlanti, Kreisberg and Schechter are all involved with DC TV and not the current movies (at least to date), though Berlanti did write and produce the 2011 Green Lantern movie. It is possible following the poorly received Batman Vs. Superman that WB may have turned to their successful TV creators for help (smart move).

Later on in the podcast also saw Stentz reveal he will be writing more Flash episodes next season and has been elevated to consulting producer on the series.

DC’s Powerless Pilot To Feature One Recognizable Super Hero

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23800:]]

New details are learned about the new DC TV series headed to NBC with Powerless.

At the Television Critics Association, IGN caught up with NBC executives Robert Greenblatt and Jennifer Salke and questioned them about the new series, which has just been picked up for pilot.

Powerless has previously been described as a workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. It’s was also previously said the focus of the series is on the ordinary, “power-less” folk working at the insurance company who often envy the men and women outside their window who make headlines with their supernatural powers.

Now it’s learned those “poweress folk” will be the star of the series, with the super heroes taking the back seat.

“They’re in the background. They’re wallpaper I suppose, as opposed to they’re not the main characters in the show, so you may see them blowing up a building out the window or something,” Greenblatt offered.

“You’re definitely hearing about them about them because they exist in the world. It’s a question of speaking parts and it’s a wide range of superheroes,” added Salke.

While the series will focus on the simple humans, one reconizable super hero will be featured in the first Powerless episode, but not as big as a name as either Batman or Superman.

“Just creatively, what I’ve seen so far of the pilot, the main superhero that’s featured is not one of those [Batman or Superman-type heroes], but it’s someone recognizable,” Salke offered.

In addition to stating no DC character is off limits, Salke described the series as:

“This is a world where superheroes are not only just on green screen out the window of this insurance office, but they’re also running into you on the street and wreaking havoc. The idea isn’t that it’s the creme de la creme of the superheroes. It’s a world where there’s a whole population of superheroes with all sorts of all challenges themselves. So you’re seeing quite a range of characters in that realm in addition to our great, kind of grounded human ensemble.”

Booster Gold / Blue Beetle Movie Said To Be In The Works

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22151:]]

It’s being said Warner Bros. is developing a Booster Gold / Blue Beetle movie which will be directed by Greg Berlanti, the producer behind the likes of Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Blindspot and Pan.

The info comes from Tracking Board who states the film will be more of a comedy superhero buddy cop movie, rather than the serious approach of Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman.

Blue Beetle was at one time wanted for Berlanti’s Arrow universe; however, DC shot them down and in turn suggested they use Atom. It’s long been speculated that Blue Beetle would be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe.

Regarding Booster Gold, SyFy was supposed to be developing a TV series for the character; however, that was seemingly swept under the rug as no news has surfaced for quite some time. Obviously, with this news, we see DC had other plans for the character.

Nathan Fillion Wants To Play Booster Gold, Ambush Bug or Greatest American Hero

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21813:]]

Nathan Fillion, a one time fan-favorite choice to play Star-Lord for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, lets it be known he would be interested in playing Booster Gold for DC.

Fillion did cameo in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and is known for voicing Green Lantern in the DC animated universes.

A fan at Wizard World Chicago asked Fillion if he could play any character in either DC or Marvel, who would it be?

“I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold,” Fillion told the crowd, who were in attendance for a Firefly panel. “That’s kind of my niche – show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that – not too bright. I think Ambush Bug; little bit off his rocker. You never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is do for a reboot.”

Fillion then questioned Summer Glau about what she knows about super heroes, with Glau responding, “I like She-Ra.”

Fillion replied, “You are totally a princess of power.”

Adam Baldwin chimed in stating maybe he could play Green Lantern, with Fillion shaking his head no.

“I don’t know,” Baldwin smiled, and they all laughed with Fillion stating Green Lantern has already been taken.

Regarding Booster Gold, a while back there was talk about a SyFy series in development, but really nothing has been mentioned in a couple years.

Interestingly enough, a Greatest American Hero remake is underway.

You can watch the video below for more from Nathan Fillion talking super heroes.

Is DC Creating A Shared TV Universe As Well? Possible Booster Gold Crossover With Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:7749:]]

Any chance DC Comics and Warner Bros. is going with a shared movie universe for the big kahunas, and a shared TV universe for the little fish?

We know an announcement is immanent about a DC shared movie universe featuring Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League.

That news looks to hit at this Summer’s Comic-Con.

But what about their TV shows?

Well, presently there is only one with CW’s Arrow, but we did recently hear about a connection to the Green Lantern movie.

And now there is another possible connection with a second DC show with SyFy’s Booster Gold.

Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg, who writes for both (Booster Gold is forthcoming), noted in an interview that he hopes both the CW and SyFy will let him include the following line in the BG pilot:

we finally have our own hero. Not like that nut in Starling City with the hood.

Kreisberg notes to GreenArrowTV (via KSiteTV) that there is always a possibility as well as mentioning that if the studios do let him keep the above line, he likes to think they are in the same universe.

It’s also interesting that in one of the Man of Steel trailers — there is a Booster Gold Easter Egg. Have you spotted it?

SyFy Booster Gold Script Should Be Turned In By December

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4320:]]

About a year ago we first heard word that SyFy had ordered a pilot script for a one hour Booster Gold show with Andrew Kreisberg on the writing chores.

We haven’t heard much since then, but it turns out that reason is because Kreisberg was busy getting Arrow together for the CW.

Now that Arrow is underway, Kreisberg can turn his attention back to Booster Gold and tells IGN he’ll have a script ready in a couple weeks.

I got a little waylaid by Arrow. Booster Gold is going in in the next couple weeks before Christmas. We’ll see what happens from there. It’s such a different project even though they’re both DC Comics properties. Booster is much more candy and popcorn, being about time travel and changing the future and being a superhero who can fly. But they’re both super-fun projects. As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I am beyond blessed to be working on these projects with all these amazing characters.

Last time we saw Booster Gold on TV was in episodes of Smallville, what does SyFy hold for the time-travelling super hero?

Justice League International Annual #1 – Omactivate!

Absolutely loved the new O.M.A.C. that was recently axed.

And I blame all you event cronies for its demise!

Try something new!

Well, the good news is that we see the big blue fin on the cover of the Justice League International Annual #1 along with Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

The bad news is that it’s the last JLI issue.

I’ve always been drawn to the B-list characters for some reason. Maybe because they seem to have more of a freedom, away from editorial mandates and such.

Same old, same old and all that.

At The Source, writer Geoff Johns, Dan DiDio and Editor Brian Smith comment and offer some teases on the upcoming issue.

Johns:

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL #1 sets the stage for some major changes in the JUSTICE LEAGUE universe. Obviously, it’s the last issue of the series, but certainly not the last story for any of the members – especially Booster Gold who ultimately will once again be drawn into the center of the DC Universe as the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 start to change the course of the future.

DiDio:

I had a great time working with Geoff on this issue especially one as important as this. It brings an end to certain stories and launches several characters into new and exciting directions.

Smith:

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL #1 introduces two new members, Olympian and Blue Beetle, who join just in time for the team to implode. Several established players quit and not everyone will survive. All this, plus a shocking glimpse into the future of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.

The Justice League International Annual hits August 29th, written by Geoff Johns and Dan DiDio with art by Jason Fabok.
