DC’s Powerless Pilot To Feature One Recognizable Super Hero

New details are learned about the new DC TV series headed to NBC with Powerless.

At the Television Critics Association, IGN caught up with NBC executives Robert Greenblatt and Jennifer Salke and questioned them about the new series, which has just been picked up for pilot.

Powerless has previously been described as a workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. It’s was also previously said the focus of the series is on the ordinary, “power-less” folk working at the insurance company who often envy the men and women outside their window who make headlines with their supernatural powers.

Now it’s learned those “poweress folk” will be the star of the series, with the super heroes taking the back seat.

“They’re in the background. They’re wallpaper I suppose, as opposed to they’re not the main characters in the show, so you may see them blowing up a building out the window or something,” Greenblatt offered.

“You’re definitely hearing about them about them because they exist in the world. It’s a question of speaking parts and it’s a wide range of superheroes,” added Salke.

While the series will focus on the simple humans, one reconizable super hero will be featured in the first Powerless episode, but not as big as a name as either Batman or Superman.

“Just creatively, what I’ve seen so far of the pilot, the main superhero that’s featured is not one of those [Batman or Superman-type heroes], but it’s someone recognizable,” Salke offered.

In addition to stating no DC character is off limits, Salke described the series as:

“This is a world where superheroes are not only just on green screen out the window of this insurance office, but they’re also running into you on the street and wreaking havoc. The idea isn’t that it’s the creme de la creme of the superheroes. It’s a world where there’s a whole population of superheroes with all sorts of all challenges themselves. So you’re seeing quite a range of characters in that realm in addition to our great, kind of grounded human ensemble.”
