Booster Gold Canceled? Deleted David Jenkins Posts Spark James Gunn DCU Questions

David Jenkins may have fueled new questions about James Gunn’s Booster Gold series, as fans noticed the writer’s old posts about the project appear to be gone.

That has led to renewed speculation that the DCU series may no longer be happening, or that the project has changed behind the scenes.

Seven months ago, Jenkins publicly confirmed he was writing a pilot for Booster Gold. In the Instagram post, Jenkins wrote, “It’s true y’all! I’m writing a pilot about this lovable goofball for @hbomax !!”

He also said he was “honored to work for James Gunn” and “very happy to inherit this project from Danny McBride,” which at the time seemed to make clear the series was moving forward.

Why Fans Think Booster Gold Could Be In Trouble

Now, however, DC fans have started pointing to signs that something may have changed.

One X user noticed that Jenkins had apparently deleted his Booster Gold-related posts and had allegedly unfollowed James Gunn. That has sparked two main theories among fans.

The first is that Booster Gold may have been canceled.

The second is that the project could still be in development, but with a different creative team attached.

At the moment, there has been no official confirmation from DC Studios, James Gunn, or Jenkins about what is actually going on.

What Jenkins Said About Booster Gold

Jenkins’ earlier comments are what make the current situation stand out.

Along with confirming he was writing the pilot, Jenkins called Booster Gold a “lovable goofball” and said he was excited to be involved. He also gave a shoutout to Deadline for using an old photo of him and joked about adding a newer one “to show what I look like now.”

The post also included a line that caught attention from DC fans: “Superman’s kind again and fun and he has a doggie! Let’s goooooooo!”

That fit with the early messaging around Gunn’s DCU, which was being sold as lighter, more hopeful, and more connected.

Rumors have said Kumail Nanjiani was a lock to play Booster Gold, but that also may no longer be the case.

Why A Jimmy Olsen Series? More Gunn Superman Family Saga

James Has Gunn Shifted The DCU Plan

The speculation also feeds into a bigger debate about the state of the DCU slate.

When Gunn and Peter Safran first announced their initial Chapter 1 lineup, Booster Gold was one of the headline projects. Since then, Creature Commandos was released, Superman has launched, Supergirl is on deck, and Lanterns is one of the major TV projects moving ahead.

But other announced projects have remained quiet, and Gunn is now going with the Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow.

That fits with what we have been told – and backed up by WBD CEO David Zaslav and Deadline – that Gunn has pivoted away from the greater DCU to his “Superman Family Saga.” Up next? The Jimmy Olsen series.

It also follows Paramount buying Warner Bros. Discovery.
