Kumail Nanjiani Said To Be A Lock For James Gunn’s Booster Gold

The Booster Gold rumors are heating back up.

Following the announcement that Our Flag Means Death creator David Jenkins is writing the pilot for the long-awaited Booster Gold series at HBO Max, speculation has reignited that Kumail Nanjiani may be playing the lead role, despite past denials.

“Oh It’s Happening”: Viral Post Fuels Casting Talk

Over on X, the user Apocalyptic Horseman has stirred the pot with a cryptic post. In response to an image from the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere showing James Gunn embracing Kumail Nanjiani, the user simply tweeted, “Oh it’s happening.”

When another user tweeted that Deadline said Nanjiani isn’t playing Booster Gold, Apocalyptic Horseman replied, “Deadline never said that. All they said was that it was an unconfirmed rumor.”

While no official announcement has been made, the image of James Gunn and Kumail Nanjiani has been viewed 1.7 million times on X further fueling the speculation the actor is joining the DCU.

James Gunn Previously Shot Down Nanjiani Rumors

Interestingly, Nanjiani’s name had come up in the past regarding Booster Gold, but James Gunn downplayed the rumor.

At the time, the project had lost its original showrunner and appeared stalled.

With David Jenkins now attached and San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, the sudden timing of this new image—and the embrace between Gunn and Nanjiani—has led some to question whether plans have changed, or if Nanjiani was the plan all along.

Last summer also saw two scoopers claim Kumail Nanjiani has already been cast as Booster Gold.
