WB Worried About Batman Vs. Superman Because of Popcorn Marvel Movies?

Batman Vs. Superman Final Trailer

A couple of days ago saw word hit that Warner Bros. is worried about Batman Vs. Superman and the Justice League universe.

Now it’s being said the blame is not with the quality of the movie itself, but with the audience.

According to Batman On Film, WB is indeed worried about how audiences will react to Batman Vs. Superman and how the film will perform at the box office (isn’t any studio when a new movie is coming out?).

The site goes on to suggest WB may be nervous that since Batman vs. Superman isn’t “popcorn fluff” (meaning a Marvel film) that audiences won’t understand the movie, but the site states not to worry because the Christopher Nolan Batman movies definitely weren’t “popcorn” and they were a big success (note: Nolan apparently isn’t involved with Batman Vs. Superman at all).

Regarding the previous rumor that stated a new standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie could replace Justice League, Batman On Film says they can’t shoot that rumor down as obviously if Batman Vs. Superman doesn’t perform up to expectations, things could change (which is why Batman was added to the Man of Steel sequel — more on that below).

It’s further said there is a group at WB who want Batman to be the focus and are concerned about Batman being a part of a team-up film.

I can also corroborate what they say about Batman being added to the Man of Steel sequel as I’ve been told WB wanted Man of Steel to hit a billion dollars at the box office. Immediately following Man of Steel‘s opening, there was talk of a straight up sequel wih Superman being the focus; however, as Man of Steel‘s box office performance slowed, that’s when Batman came into the picture.

I was told essentially a Man of Steel sequel script was combined with a Batman script for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We do know that Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck brought Chris Terrio on board to rewrite the David Goyer script, which I am guessing was the Man of Steel sequel. We also know Lex Luthor’s part was rewritten to accomodate Jesse Eisenberg (a younger Lex Luthor instead of Goyer’s older version).

All that said – again like any other movie – if Batman Vs. Superman performs well at the box office, all the rumors will be proven just to be speculation and nothing more.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Petition Launches For Richard Rider Nova For Avengers: Infinity War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24304:]]

It is critical that you pay attention at this time!

Richard Rider Nova fans have launched a petition requesting the inclusion of fan-favorite Marvel Comics character Richard Rider Nova in The Avengers: Infinity War movies.

You can sign the petition here.

The Richard Rider Nova character has a long and storied history in the comic book world beginning in 1976 with the publication of “The Man Called Nova.” Richard Rider Nova was an important part of the original “Infinity War” comic book event and was prominently featured in the story and on the cover art. We are writing to ask that you include Richard Rider Nova in the Infinity War movie as part of the large cast of characters who will be participating in the war to stop Thanos.

Nova was a sister title to Abnett and Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy title that inspired the billion dollar Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn Marvel Studios and Disney franchise. Though Nova didn’t happen to appear in the movie, his Guardians of the Galaxy movie action figure was the best-selling figure of the line, and Nova was even voted into the Marvel Heroes video game by the fans. Yep! You can’t keep a good man down!

For fans of the character, a likely added benefit of Richard Rider Nova appearing in the movie will be his return to the comic book world.  After all, the mere appearance of a character in a movie or TV show has worked for everyone from Howard the Duck to Hellcat.  The upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie has even brought Steve Rogers back to the Captain America role, and more than likely Thor’s return will be imminent as soon as Ragnarok gets closer to its release. So, if you want Rider back, this is likely the best shot for it to happen in the near future. Take a minute to add your name to the petition.  When the goal is reached, it will be sent to Kevin Feige and the Russo brothers.

Nova was even in early scripts of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so there is that to build upon.  Check out some cool concept art:

Agent Carter Likely To Be Cancelled As Hayley Atwell Is Set To Star In Another ABC Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24271:]]

It’s being reported Hayley Atwell is set to star as the the lead of another ABC series, the legal drama Conviction, which means the Agent Carter Marvel series is likely done for.

Deadline reports ABC has tapped Atwell for the lead in Conviction, noting it doesn’t look likely Agent Carter will return for a third season.

It is noted that if (and it sounds like a big if) Agent Carter does get picked up for a third season, ABC sources indicate there is a scenario in which Atwell could possibly do both shows (possibly as limited runs).

It’s further noted that the casting of Hayley Atwell in a new ABC series means more than likely Agent Carter is not getting renewed, but that the network doesn’t want to lose the actress as “they want to keep its star on its roster of leading ladies.”

While Agent Carter has been said to be only averaging around 2.9 million viewers, it has been said to have good DVR viewings.

Conviction is described as: The story of Carter Morrison (Atwell), the brilliant but ne’er-do-well daughter of a former President, who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. She, along with her team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, work together to examine cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.

Reddit User Gets Screwed Out Of Winning The Marvel Coke Mini-Cooper Super Bowl Giveaway

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24228:]]

Sunday night during the Super Bowl saw the Ant-Man vs. Hulk Marvel Coke spot released, which was followed up with a viral marketing contest.

The Ant-Man vs Hulk spot happened to include coordinates to a park in Los Angeles, which was a part of a Marvel Coke Mini-Cooper giveaway.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24227:]]

Well, one Reddit fan arrived on the scene, but apparently it was a bit too early as the people hosting the giveaway for the event were unprepared, which seems to have caused this fan the Mini-Cooper prize.

The fan posted on Reddit that the host of the Mini-Cooper giveaway told him to wait, and then the host proceeded to film a Snapchat video of the password phrase needed to win, but the host didn’t inform the Reddit user about needing the phrase. Since the fan was told to wait, the fan stopped looking for additional clues. Another person showed up thirty minutes later with the correct passphrase and won the prize.

Here is the post:

So I was following the viral marketing for the coke/marvel ad that played during the Super Bowl last night and coordinates pointed to Griffith Park, somewhere I live very close to. I drove up and arrived at a parking lot with an RV and a red mini cooper. Someone was filming me as I was trying to figure out what I needed to do next and the host told me to wait, so I sat 15 mins thinking he’d give me follow up info. When he gave me no such thing I began searching around the park thinking it would be hidden, only to find nothing. After an hour of searching, someone pulls up and yells “Make it Mini”

They won the car. I was so confused that it wasn’t until after did I realize this host screwed me over. The final clue was a snapchat vid that he made after I had already arrived. Rather than telling me there was another clue, he told me to wait. Had I not trusted him and tried looking for more info online, I could have probably won the car 30 mins before anyone arrived. I left salty, calling coca-cola and filing a report just so I could have my voice heard. It’s a bummer I came so close to winning something only to be misled at the end.

Regarding the validity of the Redditor’s statements, he says it’s on record by the team at the Mini-Cooper giveaway as he was recorded, and another Redditor showed up on site at the park to back up his claims.

The Redditor also posted the following images below as proof.

“The fact that he filmed the final clue while I was sitting around expecting to get something after they were done filming says a lot. He walked passed me without a glance,” Reddit user showbizclique posted.

TV Fan Blasts Marc Guggenheim “Over Slap To The Face” Because Of Suicide Squad Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24214:]]

I always love when I hear executives state the movies don’t affect the comics or TV universes.

Case in point: Current Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso regularly states the movies don’t affect the comics. We know that isn’t true as Matt Fraction stated the Thor movie interfered with how he wrote his Thor comic; we know Abnett and Lanning were kicked off their Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova comics because of Gunn’s film; we know the Inhumans are replacing the X-Men, and we know Marvel Comics cancelled the Fantastic Four because of the Fox movie. We also know the last ten or so years has seen Marvel Comics focus on the Avengers, and not the X-Men. And Steve Roger is returning as Captain America.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24220:]]

Regarding the DC Comics, legendary creator George Perez was pretty clear when he stated the Man of Steel people messed with his New 52 Superman comic, which is why he left.

And we also know the same happens with the DC TV universe.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24223:]]

Because of the Suicide Squad movie, Deadshot is “off the table,” Harley Quinn was shelved, and with the recent death of Amanda Waller in Arrow, it’s easy to guess the same thing happened with her character. Batman and Superman are also off limits for the Flash and Arrow universe, and Arrow couldn’t use Blue Beetle, so they went with Atom instead. Now it’s learned Deadstroke is also shelved (see below).

We can also speculate as a result of the new Green Lantern Corps movie, that now Green Lantern is also off limits.

There has been some online chatter amongst fans asking why this is the case — as the DC execs regularly state the movie and TV universes are separate. Zack Snyder recently said more of the same. So why then can’t they have the same characters? If I had to guess, my answer as to why the TV characters are being shelved is not to compete with their movie counterparts. We can probably thank Grant Gustin’s Flash for that. I’ve said it before, I think DC has finally found their “Spider-Man” with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and The Flash. The series is popular amongst casual fans, young fans, hard core fans and older fans (WB really needs to start heavily promoting Gustin and the series). I think WB is going to find it difficult to sell the Ezra Miller Flash to the fanbase. We see they have already started spinning that we should accept Miller because there are different universes. Ezra Miller has probably been coached on the topic as in interviews he’s mentioned multiple realities/universes/dimensions. The controversy has even caused Grant Gustin to come out and tell fans that he supports Miller.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24218:]]

Now executive producer Marc Guggenheim is feeling the heat as fans asked and complained on Tumblr about the TV characters getting the axe, specifically the Arrow Suicide Squad characters with Deadshot, Deathstroke and Amanda Waller.

Fan #1: Any possible chance of either Slade or Walter returning throughout the rest of Season 4? #Arrow

MG: The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project.  Walter is more likely.

Fan #2: You said that only Deadshot was off-limits, and Amanda Waller & Deathstroke are safe. But you guys killed Waller off just like that, and she doesn’t seem like she will ever return(Because bullet to head). Who’s next to be killed off? Katana? Once Deathstroke arrives in the DC movie, will he be also killed off too? This is really frustrating, that all awesome characters are being written off, because of the Suicide Squad movie, and is a slap to the face of Arrow fans.

MG: Um… I never said that.

Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, who may just be as frustrated as a lot of fans are (Amell has been vocal about wanting to be in Justice League with Gustin as the movie Flash), recently stated in an interview he thinks Arrow is missing Deathstroke.

“Manu [Bennett] is a character, and Manu played a great character. And I really honestly think that Arrow has been missing something since he hasn’t been around. I really do. He was a transformative villain. I would really love it if Deathstroke could keep being a part of the Arrow universe,” Amell said.

Sorry to say, Stephen, per Guggenheim’s words, that isn’t going to be the case. Let’s just hope Green Arrow doesn’t appear in the DCCU any time soon, eh?

Marvel Coke Mini-Can Hunt Viral Campaign Contest Launches

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24141:]]

A few days ago saw Coke release images of Marvel character-themed cans (pictured above).

Then earlier during the Super Bowl an Ant-Man vs. Hulk Coke/Marvel spot was released (watch below).

Now details on how to get the cans (actually mini-cans) have become known.

Apparently, the Avengers mini-cans are not for purchase, but are a part of a viral marketing campaign.

Coke and Marvel have launched secret Twitter accounts, which tells users to follow them and tweet a specific hashtag to enter for a chance to win the Coke Avengers mini-cans (watch the spot for clues).

Two sites have already been found on Twitter: @MiniHero37 and @AHHForce. There is a limited number of followers they will allow (4000), so you may want to follow and tweet out the given hashtags ASAP to enter for a chance to win the Avengers Coke mini-cans.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24196:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24197:]]

Here is specifically how to enter from the official rules:

How to Enter: During the Promotion Period, look for a clue (each a “Clue”) which may be a website URL, an @handle, or a phone number hidden somewhere in supported media about this Promotion. Each Clue will have a specific hashtag, quantity of prizes associated with that Clue, and Twitter account to follow. The Clue will drive you to a Twitter page at which you will learn which steps are needed to participate in the Promotion for that Clue. You must take the steps to first follow that page and then to post a specific hashtag on Twitter. The “bio” for the applicable Twitter page will provide the hashtag for that Clue as well as the number of prizes available for that Clue (the “Quantity”). There will be a minimum of 1,000 prizes available per Clue and a maximum of 4,000. For each Clue, follow the instructions on the applicable Twitter page to find the hashtag which you must post on Twitter after following the applicable page, in order to participate in the Giveaway and Sweepstakes. You must first “follow” the applicable handle and then using the hashtag that you found, Tweet it on Twitter. There need not be any other content or photo component to your Tweet, just the applicable hashtag. However, if you include a photo or other content, it must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, or offensive in any way. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant if, in its sole discretion, it finds content in his or her tweet or on his or her social media pages to be inconsistent with the brand’s image (for example, if content is in violation of any of the restrictions above). If you are one of the first people to share the applicable hashtag, up to the applicable, announced Quantity, you will be offered the opportunity to claim one of the prizes for that Clue.

To Tweet: Log into or create your Twitter account. Follow the applicable Twitter page, then Tweet the applicable hashtag. Your account settings must be set to “unprotected” and/or “public” in order for your Tweets to be viewable by Sponsor and its agents. Creating a Twitter account is free, but is subject to its terms and conditions (https://twitter.com/tos). If you post updates to or receive updates from www.twitter.com via SMS from your wireless phone, message and data rates may apply. Please consult your wirelessservice provider regarding its pricing plans.

If you are following the applicable handle and you share the applicable hashtag using a public account, but you are NOT one of the first applicable Quantity to Tweet the hashtag and have not been offered a prize before the end of the Promotion Period, you will automatically receive 1 entry into the Sweepstakes, up to the limit stated below.

Limit: 1 Tweet per Clue per person during the Promotion Period and up to one Sweepstakes entry per Clue per person. Multiple entrants are not permitted to share the same email address or Twitter account. Any attempt by any entrant to obtain more than the stated number of entries by using multiple/different email addresses, identities, Twitter accounts, registrations or logins, or any other methods will void that entrant’s entries and that entrant may be disqualified from the Sweepstakes. Any use of robotic, repetitive, automatic, programmed or similar entry methods or agents (including, but not limited to, sweepstakes entry services) will void all entries by that entrant. In the event of a dispute as to any entry, the authorized account holder of the email address or Twitter account used to enter will be deemed to be the entrant. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned (i) an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address or (ii) a Twitter account as provided by Twitter. Potential winners may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holders.

Marvel & Coca-Cola Super Bowl Commercial May Feature Ant-Man & Hulk

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24184:]]

Update: A Captain America: Civil War spot has been released.

Update #2: A Marvel Coke Ant-Man vs Hulk spot has been released.

Update #3: A Marvel Coke mini-can contest has launched.

We may have a possible clue as to what the Marvel Super Bowl commercial will feature as word is hitting the net a Coke commercial is running featuring Ant-Man and the Hulk.

Users on Reddit and Twitter are reporting they have seen the Marvel Coke commercial advertised on various videos on YouTube — though it is unclear if this is the 60-second Superbowl spot. It’s possible this ad may either be a part of it (i.e. a shorter version) or entirely separate.

A user on Reddit described the Marvel Coke commercial featuring the Ant-Man and the Hulk as follows:

Okay so I’m doing some late night youtube and suddenly an ad pops up. Im about to skip but its a door that says “Doctor Bruce Banner”- so of course I watched it. Its a coke commercial with Hulk and Ant Man! I can’t remember all of the details cause it went so quickly but Hulk is chasing Ant Man for a can of coke and he bursts out of the side of a building. He can’t open the can when he finally gets it so Ant Man does it for him

Marvel and Coke teased a joint promotion earlier with cans featuring various Avengers characters, with the Hulk and Ant-Man being a part of the group. It’s possible there could be numerous Coke ads featuring a combination of the characters, with the 60-second spot being the entire group. If we go by the order of the cans from the promotion, the spot would feature Falcon with Black Widow, Iron Man with Captain America, and per above, Ant-Man and Hulk (see pic below).

We won’t have to wait too much longer to find out as the Marvel Coke commercial is airing during the second quarter of today’s Big Game.

Whether or not it’s a Captain America: Civil War trailer may be in doubt as the promotion features the Hulk (at least in can-form), and the Hulk is not a part of the movie; so it’s possible the promotion would be more or less Marvel Avengers-related.

Speculation: First Look At Tom Holland Spider-Man Could Come During Super Bowl

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24148:]]

When will Disney and Marvel reveal the first look at the new Tom Holland Spider-Man?

How about this Sunday during the Super Bowl?

It’s just a wild guess on my part, but Marvel and Coke just announced a joint promotion which will see a 60-second spot released during the second quarter of the Super Bowl.

While that may not be enough to justify my theory of Spider-Man appearing during the Big Game, the week of this Sunday happens to mark a year ago that Disney officially announced Spider-Man back at Marvel.

The Spider-Man announcement actually came on Tuesday, February 9, 2015, but Sunday seems like a better “one year anniversary” option to reveal Spidey, wouldn’t you say?

Tom Holland is first set to appear in Captain America: Civil War on May 6th, followed by the standalone Spider-Man film, which has a new release date of July 7, 2017.

It’s even possible we may see Tom Holland for a second time prior to the Spider-Man movie as Holland has been spotted on the set of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which hits later this year after Captain America: Civil War on November 4th.

Iron Fist Actor Has Been Cast For Marvel Netflix Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24061:]]

Yesterday Cosmic Book News broke the news that Iron Fist has a writer on board, and now it’s learned the actor to play Iron Fist has been cast.

Luke Cage actor Mike Colter told the Collider the following:

The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere. When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is. I am [excited]. I’ll get a nice little break, after doing Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Whether I’m in [his show], I don’t know, but there’s The Defenders.

No premiere date has yet been announced for Iron Fist; Daredevil Season 2 premiers March 18th; Luke Cage is speculated to debut in Novmeber, and Jessica Jones has also been announced to be getting a Season 2.

John Krasinski Wants A Marvel Villain Role

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24044:]]

While speaking with Digital Spy, John Krasinski confirms he was up for the role of Captain America at one time (also said to have been up for Star-Lord) and mentions he wouldn’t mind playing a villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Yeah, I’ll take a Marvel movie anytime! I love watching them, so I’d love to be a part of it. The Captain America thing was hilarious. As much as I had fun doing it… I definitely got to wear the suit. I screen-tested and all those things, and I signed my life away that I wouldn’t even talk about it, so they’re going to kill me now. Thanks. But as soon as I heard that Chris [Evans] was considering it, I applauded. Chris is a good friend, and very very good at what he does, and so I was so happy to see him do it. Maybe now I have to play a villain where I fight Chris. That’s what we need to do.”

Any ideas which villain Krasinski could play? How about Red Guardian?

John Krasinksi stars in “13 Hours,” in theaters now.

Netflix’s Iron Fist Gets Jessica Jones Writer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24035:]]

We’re slowly getting there, but the Marvel Iron Fist Netflix series is becoming a reality.

Following rumors that Marvel Studios may have put the kibosh on Iron Fist, it’s known the series is still in development for Netflix.

Just a week ago saw Netflix update their queue with a logline description for the Marvel series, including Iron Fist.

Now a writer on Iron Fist is made known.

Scott Reynolds has updated his Twitter account with a pic of Iron Fist in addition to updating his profile description which states he is the “Marvel/Netflix Iron Fist writer.”

Reynolds previously wrote Jessica Jones for Marvel and has written episodes of Dexter and The Following.

Iron Fist has yet to be cast and a premiere date is yet to be announced, but we can speculate that Iron Fist may appear in the upcoming Luke Cage Netflix series first, which looks to debut in November.

Update: Ion Fist has been cast.

Marvel Comics Dead No More Teaser #2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24009:]]

Following the first teaser from two weeks ago, Marvel Comics has now revealed a second “Dead No More” teaser with additional information.

Included with the above image was the following:

“If you got a chance to bring back someone who died, would you? And how will CLASSIFIED deal when ones they thought long dead once again walk the earth?”

It’s also been revealed the answer to the teaser will happen with Marvel’s FCBD issue which will feature a lead-in to the new Captain America: Steve Rogers comic, with the other half of the FCBD issue featuring the “Dead No More” answer.

The teaser above seems to hint at a Spider-Man connection, but it could be just that – a teaser – with most likely Marvel releasing similar style teasers for other characters in the coming weeks.

Obviously, if we had a say in the matter, we would bring back Richard Rider as Nova (and yeah, we still consider Star-Lord dead, too).
