“Spider-Man” To Be Released Worldwide In IMAX 3D Theatres

Sony Pictures Entertainment, Marvel Studios and IMAX Re-Team for Event Release; IMAX Launch Coincides with Film’s New Wide Global Debut Date on July 7, 2017

Spider-Man, one of the world’s most beloved superheroes, will once again come to IMAX Theatres for a network-wide event run when the film is released in theaters on its new worldwide date on July 7, 2017, it was announced today by Josh Greenstein, president of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. As the movie, which Sony Pictures Entertainment is teaming with Marvel Studios to produce, enters wide release, it will also be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format. The highly anticipated next installment in the $4 billion franchise, which will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, will be directed by Jon Watts and produced by Feige and Amy Pascal.

Commenting on the announcement, Greenstein said, “There’s so much about Spider-Man – including the web-slinging action – that lends itself perfectly to the IMAX screen. We are confident that audiences everywhere around the world will want to see it in IMAX.”

Feige said: “Time and time again IMAX delivers super-hero sized moviegoing experiences to fans. With the anticipation for Spider-Man climbing, we are excited that IMAX has committed early to this extended release plan – it will be a great way for audiences around the world to experience such a big event film.”

Foster said, “IMAX’s long-standing relationship with Marvel and Sony first began with Spider-Man in 2002, establishing the ultimate way for fans to be transported into the world of their favorite characters like Peter Parker. By re-teaming with our friends at Sony and Marvel on the newest Spider-Man reboot, we are excited to deliver audiences what they’re asking for: a must-see cinematic adventure – in IMAX.”

The IMAX 3D release of the Spider-Man film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Disney / Marvel Axes X-Men: Danger Room Protocols Fan Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23998:]]

Well, that is all she wrote for the X-Men: Danger Room Protocols web series meant to be a homage to the 90s cartoon.

Following the debut of the initial episode, Disney/Marvel has put a stop to the project citing copyright issues.

The creator of the series has posted a video on YouTube stating it’s cancelled.

Joel Furtado states he spent a year creating the project and all his money, and that he can’t afford to get into a legal battle with Marvel.

“I’m sort of being forced at this time to shut down and remove all the episodes and content to do with the series,” Furtado said, and then went on to thank the fans for their support.

“When I set out to make this project, I never really thought this was going to be an issue,” Furtado continued. “I didn’t think that Marvel was going to react this way, and this outcome, for me, is a little bit shocking. Just giving the precedent on the internet of how much fan art is made on a daily basis by thousands of people…. I never thought I would be treated differently.”

It’s possible Furtado might be able to put the video back up if he claims it’s a parody. The Supreme Court has ruled parody and satire come under Fair Use. Of course, Furtado could still face an uphill legal battle with Disney, which he obviously wants to avoid.

“The most heartbreaking thing of this entire experience isn’t even that I have to throw out this entire project in the garbage, or that I wasted all my money making this,” explained Furtado. “The most heartbreaking thing is that this company that I’ve idolized my entire life, and I’m finally meeting for the first time professionally, and this is the experience that we’ve gone through, where now Marvel’s looking at me like I’m an enemy to them. And that’s never what I wanted.”

CBR reached out to Marvel who declined to comment.

Marvel Comics Announces Captain America: Steve Rogers #1

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23920:]]

MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #1!

Steve Rogers Returns as the Star-Spangled Avenger for an All-New Marvel Comics Series

This spring, Marvel’s Steve Rogers takes back the iconic moniker that gave him notoriety and returns to the mantel of Captain America with CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS from writer Nick Spencer and artist Jesus Saiz.

First revealed on ABC’s “Captain America: 75 Heroic Years,” Steve Rogers will once again don the red, white, and blue and continue the adventures of Marvel’s Sentinel of Liberty in this all-new series, with an all-new mission statement while proudly carrying an all-new shield. And today, Marvel is pleased to present your first peek inside the bold new series that will take Captain America in a whole new direction!

“It’s an exciting time to be writing Captain America, for sure– this year is the character’s 75th Anniversary, not to mention the upcoming release of Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. And with CIVIL WAR II approaching in the Marvel Universe, it felt like the perfect time to restore Steve Rogers to his former self,” says series writer Nick Spencer.

Recently drained of the Super Soldier Serum that gave him his strength, speed and endurance, Steve Rogers was no longer fit to wield the shield and he passed the title of Captain America to his closest ally, Sam Wilson, a.k.a. Falcon. So what happens to Sam Wilson now that Steve has returned? Enemies of freedom beware – there are now two Captain Americas protecting the people!

“CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON will act as great counter-points to one another,” continues Spencer. “If you’re digging the topical, ripped-from-the-headlines approach we’re taking in Sam’s book, we’ve got plenty more of that to come. And if you’re up for a more timeless take, with Captain America facing off against Hydra and his classic rogues gallery, Steve’s book will be just the thing for you.”

The All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe is in turmoil. The threat of impeding Hydra forces grows by the day worming their way into Marvel’s Super Hero community. Anyone can be a threat, and no one is to be trusted. But what is Hydra’s ultimate goal? There is only one man who can challenge the threat of Hydra – Captain America himself – Steve Rogers!

Will his first day back on the job be his last? Find out when CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #1 arrives in comic shops and digital devices this spring!

Marvel Comics Possibly Teases Thunderbolts

The teaser reads “Injustice, Like Lighting,” while Busiek’s stated “Justice, Like Lightning.”

Marvel also included the text “From the Ashes Of Avengers: Standoff…” with the image.

The teaser image does seem to feature members of the Thunderbolts with the Fixer and Mach 5 as well as potential new characters.

Update: Marvel has released a second teaser (see below) revealing Moonstone and Mach VII.

Steve Rogers Returns As Captain America For Marvel Comics

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23893:]]

During tonight’s Captain America 75th Anniversary Special on ABC, it was announced Steve Rogers would be returning to the Marvel Comics comic books featuring a new costume and shield in the “Standoff” event.

Marvel.com also announced the news with the new series by Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz.

Details include:

When the villainous Iron Nail removed the Super-Soldier Serum from his body, Steve Rogers aged into an old man, putting him on the sidelines and passing his shield to the former Falcon, Sam Wilson. But following the events of the upcoming Standoff event, Rogers will once again fight on the frontlines as Captain America, with a new shield, a new mission, and a brand new comic, Captain America: Steve Rogers.

Without spoiling too much of Standoff at this early date, something happens that restore Steve to full vigor, which will obviously greatly impact his own mission and his standing within the Marvel Universe. The biggest part of that? He’s Captain America once again.

The country is as divided as it’s ever been, and Steve is one of a kind; he’s a unifying figure, someone we can all look up to, [and] someone we can all put our faith in. It’s no secret the Marvel Universe is about to enter a period of serious conflict with Civil War II looming on the horizon, and as such, it feels like the perfect moment to bring Steve back into fighting shape.

Cap’s redesign has actually been created by the magnificent Daniel Acuña, and it truly is an incredible design. It’s very modern, and at the same time perfectly identifiable as Captain America at first glance. It has all the classic elements you’d expect to find in the character’s suit, but updated in a very clever way.

And the greatest part [is] the shield, indeed! Its shape is similar to the original shield Cap had back in the 1940’s, the pointy one, but this one has two main innovations: its tip can deploy an “energy blade” so Cap can cut into things, and the shield can be divided in two, so Steve can use both halves, one with each arm. Both modifications will help us see a completely different set of moves for Captain America, moves that we [have] never seen Steve use before, in terms of hand-to-hand combat.

It’s also revealed Falcon will still be Captain America:

It means we’ll have two Captain Americas. When Steve handed the shield to Sam, it didn’t come with any caveats. It’s his. Steve respects and admires what his old partner is doing, and wants him to carry on. There are enough problems out there, and enough bad guys, to keep both of them busy. They’ll have very different missions; Sam will continue fighting the battles no one else will go near, while Steve is faced with a resurgent threat from his past: Hydra is back, and stronger than ever.

Comic Book Retailers Sound Off On DC & Marvel As Sales Drop

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23863:]]

The sky is falling?!

Well, obviously it’s not, but if you have been a long time comic book reader, or even a reader of the past ten years or so, you have to admit comics in general from the Big Two were better a decade ago.

Regarding DC, all I can say (at least from my point of view), is that they have editorial issues, which may possibly stem from the move to the West Coast.

Regarding Marvel, the current regime in charge seems to care less what the fans think or want, and instead simply wants to shove their initiatives down the fans’ throats — “take it or leave it.”

And both the Big Two do share a common problem, which is: either some sort of interference by their big brother studio or trying too damn hard to emulate what the movies do in a failed attempt to think the movie audience crosses over with the comic audience (it doesn’t and never has, at least not to a significant extent).

That said, I can probably rant on all night about the topic, but recently two retailers have sounded off.

The first article I’ll point you at is from Brian Hibbs, a local comic shop owner who has a regular column at CBR with “Tilting at Windmills.” Hibbs’ latest article is titled “Trouble On The Horizon” in which he writes about seeing the “weakest first quarters of product that I’ve seen in 26 years of selling comics.” Some excerpts:

[DC and Marvel] have both made simultaneous tactical errors that seem probable to break years of buying habits from their largest and most core readership.

…many customers were getting tired of the “New 52” (DC’s line-wide reboot from 2011) — despite massive initial success with the New 52, large swathes of the audience were already starting to walk away, and “Convergence,” the publishing stunt designed to fill that two-month hole, proved to be a great “jumping off” point.

DC You” isn’t connecting with this new readership… only two of the 21 titles have sales over 30,000 copies (very roughly the sales level where companies with big overhead start cancelling books for lack of sales), and a staggering ten titles are selling under twenty thousand copies…

…changes to the core titles (“Batman,” “Superman,” etc.) appear to show the stalwart characters bleeding readers

I personally have a very hard time watching this happen because for 25 years DC was my #1 publisher — and in a fashion in which it really wasn’t even close. DC dominated my sales. And they’ve slipped down to #3 in 2015, which is just heart-rending.

…things don’t look much more promising over at Marvel…

[All-New All-Different Marvel] sell-through is generally pretty bad, with many of the books essentially just picking up at or below where they left off…

“All-New All-Different” is stumbling out of the gate, and what should have been a grand repositioning that would draw flocks of new and excited readers to a revitalized Marvel line, like “New 52” did for DC, ANAD has arrived with just a quiet sigh of indifference from the majority of the readership.

In fact, my sales were down 4% in the month of November, the first drop we’ve seen after seven straight quarters of growth — and these are 4% sales down on orders that were approximately 20% higher than the year before. That’s bad and dangerous to ongoing operations.

…that new/younger readership? They literally don’t understand why you would start a book over again at #1. It makes no sense to them! And that confusion appears to have shooed a number of them off.

…the “word on the street” from a wide swath of stores is that a vast indifference has begun to creep in among the readers of superhero comics, and that this miasma is softening the 4th quarter enough to potentially threaten these stores.

January 2016 looked pretty mediocre (my orders were a full 25% below December 2015, yow!), but February looks downright awful, with virtually nothing new, exciting, or commercial debuting at all.

I see a market that is moving away from line-driven buying, that is growing tired of the constant cycle of relaunch and reboot, that has far more options for their time and mindshare than ever before, and that can meet their craving for superhero material increasingly in other media. And that has, most dangerously, had their long-standing habits interrupted by their very pushers.

Next we have some tweets from a comic retailer out of Ireland, who went on a rant about the industry (more on Twitter). Check out what Big Bang Comics had to say:

“Dark Phoenix,” also offered the following in a comment on Hibbs’ article, which is similar to more than a few fans’ sentiments I’ve seen online:

As a long time reader, I find many things about the current state of the comic market unsatisfying. So much so that it has in fact let me to almost give up collecting all together. I spend my money these days on collections of runs I have enjoyed in the past rather than the new output. I think a lot of readers are becoming unhappy with the current output from both of the big 2 but the sad thing is they won’t listen to their “readers” and instead just keep pulling the same tricks out of their tired bags until things get so bad we are again in a post 90’s collapse of the market. I was never a big DC reader but would occasionally pick up a couple of titles I liked. Now, nothing at all. And I went from being a Marvel Zombie to just really caring about a couple of books, mostly X books that the company has shown they would rather de-emphasize due to not having the movie rights that THEY sold to keep the company afloat. Here is a short list of my biggest issues:

1. Stop Re-launching Titles every 6 issues: #1’s were a good way to make a quick buck but the attrition between the first and second issue seems to be getting worse the more often they try this. Maybe because I’m an older reader but its difficult to care about something that will be starting over in under a year than immersing myself in a long term story that follows at least some degree of continuity with some singular creative vision. Maybe we will never have another Claremont X-Men, a Miller Daredevil or a Byrne FF but at least you can have a Hickman who can tell a long running tale over a few years.

2. Event Fatigue: Yes, at the moment we may be buying your latest banner slapped story of the season but honestly, why not have your creators focus on telling good stories within the pages of the regular books they write. I’m not saying don’t ever do cross overs but make them special again. Give some time (years not weeks) before you move from one to another. Focus on making your core product as good as it can be. Events should be a plus to the base, not a Band-Aid for it.

3. Stop Milking Good Concepts Dry: We don’t need 20 Bat Books, 17 X Books, 12 Avengers books and 6 Inhumans books. Keep a family down to 3-4 titles at most and make them good. Stop diluting these brands by saturating the market with sub standard product. If you have a creator that has a story to tell outside of the core books, do a mini series instead of an ongoing that will only run 6 issues anyway.

4. The Creators Need to Stop Showing Utter Contempt for their Customers: Someone needs to shut people like Tom Breevort up. His disdain for comics readers is shocking. The fact that Marvel lets a high level executive of their company interact with fans the way he does is almost incomprehensible. Stop talking to fans like they are stupid. Stop baiting them and stop lying to them. If you can’t admit that you F-ed up the release of something like Secret Wars, don’t spin it with nonsense. We know you messed up and you didn’t give the creative team enough lead time and you just assumed they would work faster because it was an event. Didn’t happen. Fess up to it and own the fact that you relaunched your line before the series that was the basis of the relaunch was even done. People will give you far more credit for telling the truth than trying to spin it with nonsense.

All of this is simply one person’s opinion, mine, but clearly we are heading for bad times unless the big 2 don’t fix their problems sooner than later. Speculators and variant covers nearly killed the industry once before. Seeing it happening again is frightening.

Tom Brevoort “Explains” Fantastic Four Cancellation

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23850:]]

As seen in Secret Wars #9, that is all she wrote for the Fantastic Four. No, they didn’t technically die, and some of the characters will be appearing in other Marvel series, but the FF as we know them – the world’s greatest comic magazine – is done for.

Now Marvel’s Tom Brevoort has commented on Fantastic Four getting shelved as he tells CBR it’s because no one (fans and creators?) cares for them:

That said, and this is another conversation we’ve had in retreats and elsewhere, and I think we’ve even talked about it if not in these “Secret Wars” chats, then in other recent chats about previous event books. “Fantastic Four” has been one of those books that, for a number of years, has been effectively taken for granted. It’s been considered stodgy, or old school, or some people see it as a thing that’s there and people are comfortable because it’s there, but they’re not particularly passionate about it.

So we’re not going to have that book for a while. We didn’t have a Thor book for a while. We did “Avengers Disassembled” and Thor went away. For a couple of years, there was absolutely no Thor book, and when Thor came back, it was a huge book. It continues to be a huge book to this day. I think that absence was part of what made people cherish its return, and then it was just having great talent to execute that return. If the same sort of thing happens with Fantastic Four that would not be the worst thing in the world.

We’re guessing Brevoort is getting his opinion based on sales as Fantastic Four hasn’t been a “big” seller (maybe around 30k-ish). If that’s the case, does that mean Marvel plans on shelving: Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men, Iron Fist, Captain America, Iron Man, various Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy-related titles, She-Hulk, Inhumans, Winter Soldier, Ultimates, Venom, Hawkeye, Howard The Duck, ad infinitum…?

Because all those listed above sell about the same or less than Fantastic Four.

And regarding Thor, it’s a “huge” book?

Thor sells around 30K as well — when the title is not getting relaunched a gazillion times with a million variants.

Nice, try, Tom. Give our regards to Perlmutter.

Marvel Comics Teaser: Beware My Sting

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23806:]]

Following Tuesday’s “Dead No More” teaser, Marvel Comics has released a “Beware My Sting” teaser image.

It was initially thought the teasers might have something to do with Secret Wars #9; however, the issue has since been released where it appears the teaser images have nothing to do with the issue.

The next guess is Wolverine, as the “Dead No More” font seems to match the font for Wolverine, but “Beware My Sting” doesn’t seem to hint at the berserker raging mutie.

Now it’s assumed the two teasers may be related to Eric O’Grady, Ant-Man, who died in the pages of Secret Avengers back in 2012. Wasp is also featured in All-New Wolverine #5, which might play into things.

Spoiler Returns To Marvel Comics Today In Uncanny Avengers #4

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23793:]]

Spoilers follow for today’s issue of Uncanny Avengers #4…

Yesterday saw Marvel Comics release a “Dead No More” teaser, and while the following may not be related, a character does return.

Last March saw Marvel publish the Rage Of Ultron original graphic novel, which saw Hank Pym merge with Ultron.

Now Hank Pym is back in the pages of Uncanny Avengers #4, and he’s not alone.

Check out the reveal of Pym who states he brought Ultron with him.

Regarding the validity of the “Dead No More” teaser, did Han Pym technically “die” in Rage Of Ultron? It’s guessed the two are more than likely unrelated.

Possible Marvel Comics Civil War 2 Spoilers Leak Online Revealing Deaths

Marvel Comics is launching a sequel to their Civil War event this year, with new details recently released revealing a Marvel character will die.

Now potential spoilers for Civil War 2 have hit the net.

A user on the neogaf forums is claiming they have read the script to the first issue:

You guys have absolutely no reason to believe me, but I’ve read the script for the first issue of this. Here’s what happens (hint, it’s pretty bad)!

The guy who can see everything in the future? He’s an Inhuman named Homer. I shit you not. No code name, no Inhuman moniker, just Homer.

Homer helps the heroes beat some big bad and Captain Marvel takes the opportunity to start using Homer to solve future crimes.

OFF PANEL, both War Machine and She Hulk die fighting Thanos as Carol learned he was landing on Earth to try to get the Cosmic Cube again thanks to Homer.

Tony swears revenge on Carol for getting Rhodey killed, while Jennifer lies dying on a table, her last words urging Danvers to keep using Homer to look into the future, even though she’s, you know, dying.

Again, no reason to believe me but there you have it. Wait and see.

Guardians of Infinity Tops 100k; Richard Rider Nova Still Sells Better Than NINO

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23771:]]

As much BS as Tom “Rumpelstiltskin” Brevoort likes to spin on his Tumblr, there is no denying that Richard Rider Nova is a better seller than his replacement, NINO (“Nova In Name Only”).

The most recent issue of NINO, December’s #2, is already under 30K and is again fast approaching cancellation numbers with only 27k in sales (2007 Richard Rider Nova #2 had around 45k).

Further good news comes in the form of the December sales for Abnett’s first issue of Guardians of Infinity which topped 100,000 copies; albeit in part due to being featured in the December Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Collector’s Corps geek box. Hey, but we’re not complaining.

Following Marvel Studios green lighting the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel Comics under Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, Axel Alonso, Jeph Loeb, Brian Michael Bendis and Tom Brevoort removed Abnett and Lanning and did away with their popular and best-selling Marvel Cosmic line of comics, which included the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy team that inspired the new billion dollar Disney franchise.

Richard Rider Nova was also a part of the line and was replaced with a childish wannabe Spider-Man. Sales for the first launch of NINO quickly collapsed and Loeb was announced off the book with the the publication of the second issue. Since then, NINO has consistently sold less than Richard Rider Nova.

The Richard Rider Nova Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Infinite Action figure was even the best-selling figure of the line – outselling Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax and Iron Man – and he wasn’t even featured in the movie.

Fans also voted Richard Rider Nova into the Marvel Heroes 2015 video game, ahead of NINO.

It doesn’t stop there as obviously Disney recognizes the potential of Richard Rider Nova as they continue to put out merchandise in his name, with the latest being the Thanos Imperative Dice Masters Game. We’ll also throw in Hasbro is putting out a Quasar figure based on DnA’s Realm Of Kings and Annihilators.

While Marvel Comics – for some odd reason – is keeping Richard Rider Nova in the dark, it’s hoped with the Marvel Studios Avengers: Infinity War movies that Richard Rider Nova might make a cameo. The directors on the two-parter, Anthony and Joe Russo, recently let it be known they are keeping track of 67 Marvel characters. Hopefully, Rich is among them.

If you happen to be a Richard Rider Nova supporter, you can write to Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige at the following address. Ask for Richard Rider Nova in the MCU!

It’s finally confirmed that Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther.

Marvel.com confirmed the news:

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” said producer Kevin Feige.  “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’  Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

Coogler wrote and directed his first award-winning feature film, “Fruitvale Station,” in 2013. Most recently he directed the critically-acclaimed “Creed,” which earned Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

Black Panther has been an important character in the Marvel universe for 50 years. He is the king of the technologically-advanced nation of Wakanda, and Panther has served as a member of the Avengers in addition to his many solo adventures.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman who will debut in Captain America: Civil War May 6th.

Marvel Developing Second Comedy Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23759:]]

In addition to Damage Control, it’s learned Marvel is developing a second comedy TV series.

ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee revealed the news to IGN at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Lee didn’t offer any specific details other than: “In the long term, we’d love it to be [on ABC]. We definitely want to do Marvel comedies as well as dramas and of course, as you know, we supply lots of dramas to Netflix.”

Regarding Damage Control, which is said to be a half hour, single camera sitcom about the people who clean up the messes left by superheroes battling in their city, Lee offered: “That’s the one that’s going to be coming out this season. I haven’t read it yet. I can’t wait to see it. We hope it’s going to be great.”

DC is also developing a comedy series of their own with Powerless, which was recently picked up by NBC. Lee offered the following when asked if there was any concern over the competition: “Our job is to make great television. We pick up the best scripts we can, we put in the best casts. Our job is to make great TV.”

ABC also green lit the Agents Of SHIELD Mockingbird spinoff, Marvel’s Most Wanted.

Marvel Comics Killing Off Character in Civil War 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23133:]]

With the upcoming release of the Captain America: Civil War movie, Marvel Comics is also releasing a new Civil War II comic this year.

Now it’s learned Marvel Comics is killing off a character with the event.

According to the NY Daily News, the death comes at the hands of a “fellow costumed hero.”

The superhero to die obviously isn’t revealed, but Marvel Comics writer James Robinson offered the following:

“That’s like an epic,” says Robinson. “I’m genuinely shocked.”

The plot of the series is also revealed:

“A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy,” according to the synopsis. “This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”

Bendis, writer of the Civil War II event, also offered the following about the story:

“People’s personal accountability is the theme of this one,” Bendis explains to his peers of his project with artist David Marquez. “From the way cops are acting on camera, to the way people talk to each other online.”

As the story unfolds this new seer predicts the hero in question will be the cause of a major incident of destruction in three days, requiring the other good guys to make a tough call. The writer just hasn’t figured what or how bad that cataclysm will be.

“It has to fall somewhere between Hitler and self-defense,” Bendis says.

Stephen Amell Responds To Marvel Rumors

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23673:]]

With the WB movie universe apparently giving Stephen Amell the cold shoulder (and Grant Gustin), is the Arrow, Marvel bound?

Around three weeks ago saw Stephen Amell mention he would be open to a Marvel movie role, which apparently had led some fans online to believe he’s actually up for a role.

While debunking the rumor of leaving Arrow on Facebook, Stephen Amell commented on being rumored for the MCU.

That’s another one of those absolutely preposterous rumors. Here’s the deal: I’m an actor. I like acting roles. Because an actor tends to be defined by not being unemployed. So if a role came up… I would always listen. Does that include Marvel characters? Of course it does. Have there been any offers, auditions, or even general meetings…? No.

So if Marvel did give Amell a call, any ideas as to who he could play? I previously put it forth he could possibly play Richard Rider Nova. Some other suggestions have included Moon Knight. How about John Walker, aka US Agent?

“Arrow” returns January 20th, and TMNT 2 hits June 3rd, with Amell as Casey Jones.

Top Selling Comics & Graphic Novels For 2015

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23624:]]

Diamond Announces Top Selling Comic Books & Graphic Novels of 2015

Star Wars #1 Bestselling Comic Book of the Year; Marvel Comics Top Comic Book Publisher; Comic Book & Graphic Novel Sales Up Over 7%

Star Wars returned to Marvel Comics in January with the million-selling Star Wars #1 from Jason Aaron and John Cassaday, kicking off a blockbuster year of Star Wars success that climaxed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattering box office records worldwide, earning Marvel not only the best-selling comic book published in 2015 but the best-selling single issue in over two decades with Star Wars #1, based on total unit sales to comic book specialty retailers, according to Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of comics, graphic novels, and pop-culture merchandise.

Written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by John Cassaday, Star Wars #1 debuted in January, 2015 and each subsequent issue has consistently been a monthly top five bestselling title for Marvel Comics. The entire Star Wars comic book publishing line was a success in 2015, with Star Wars: Vader Down #1 (#6), Darth Vader #1 (#9), and Princess Leia #1 (#10) joining Star Wars #1 in the Top-10.

Overall, comic books and graphic novels continued their positive trends, with 2015’s annual sales increasing 7.17% over the previous year; comic book sales specifically were up 8.99%, while graphic novel sales rose by 3.14%. Over 98 million comic books were sold to comic book specialty stores in 2015, an increase of 6 million units over 2014, with just over 8 million graphic novels units shipped.

Marvel Comics finished the year as the comic book specialty market’s top publisher, leading in both Dollar and Unit Market Shares, with a 38.74% Dollar Market Share and a 41.82% Unit Market Share.  Marvel Comics had seven of the year’s top ten comics; in addition to the four Star Wars titles, Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s Secret Wars #1, Spider-Gwen #1 (a spin-off from Spider-Verse), and Invincible Iron Man #1 (the launch title for the All-New All-Different Marvel relaunch) were among the top ten. On the year, Marvel had 78 titles placed in the top 100 best-selling comics.

DC Entertainment was the comic book specialty market’s number two publisher in 2015 with a 25.75% Dollar Market Share and a 27.35% Unit Market Share. DC Entertainment’s top comic book, Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 by Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello, John Romita., Jr., and Klaus Janson charted at #5 for the year, while perennial graphic novel bestseller, Batman: The Killing Joke HC, charted as the #5 graphic novel for the year. Several issues of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman run and the Convergence main issues from Jeff King contributed to a strong showing for DC among the top 100 comics for the year.

Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ science fiction epic, Saga from Image Comics dominated the top ten graphic novels chart and solidified Image Comics as the year’s third largest comic book publisher, with a 9.93% Dollar Market Share and a 10.70% Unit Market Share. Image Comics took seven of the top ten graphic novel spots, including all five collections of Saga as well as two volumes from Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead series. The best-selling comic book for the year from Image was another Brian K. Vaughn bestseller, We Stand on Guard #1, at #124 for the year.

IDW Publishing’s was the comic book specialty market’s fourth largest publisher, propelled by its licensed titles such as My Little Pony, Star Trek, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, among others. The company’s Dollar Market Share was 5.59% for the year. Based upon the hit BBC America show, Orphan Black #1 was IDW’s top-selling comic book landing at #4 for the year.

Dark Horse Comics’ creator-owned titles helped the company to be the fifth leading comic book publisher to the comic book specialty market in 2015 with a 3.79% Dollar Market Share. Dark Horse’s top comic book for the year was Fight Club 2 #1 at #129, a sequel to the cult-classic movie penned by writer Chuck Palahniuk.
